This may be my first ever gas station review, but I felt compelled to write this due to the service here. I came into the convenience store and was provided excellent customer service. As I got back to my vehicle, an employee was already cleaning my windshield for me. I let him know it was not necessary, but he insisted and made small, not creepy conversation lol. Most, if not all, of my gas station conversations with strangers have been pretty creepy, so it was refreshing that this employee seemed to just genuinely want my windshield cleaned. Came here to see if there was any reason why the pumps are always so bare but the prices are usually a lot cheaper than their competitors. I've pumped here several times. I would come more often but it's not usually my regular route. The last time I came, an older gentleman came out and cleaned my windshield wipers for me. We had a nice chat and he was so friendly. He didn't know why they are less busy also. In reading the reviews, others have recognized their great customer service also. I will definitely come back and support them! read more

One nice gentleman tried helping, then he got another mechanic who opened my trunk, reached through and it popped open! I made it to my appointment right on time! This is a gas station where the owners and/or workers really take pride in their business. I have had them ask if they can clean my windshield and pump my gas for me. Most recently my tire pressure light went on and they were so helpful checking the air pressure in all four tires and inspecting them to see what was causing it. It is nice to find a business that harkens back to the good ol days. read more

I stopped coming here 15 years ago. Aaron Blachey, the Station Manager is an excellent businessman. He places customer satisfaction before profit. I brought my vehicle in for repair. My car's power steering was having whining sound. The first mechanic I saw from "Your Mechanic" told me that I need to replace the arms and drive shaft. i was not sold out to what he told me. I brought my car to Shell Auto Repair on Elk Grove & Florin road. Aaron checked my car thoroughly and found that noise happens because it only needs steering fluid. Not only he top it off, he didn't charge me the normal diagnosis fee of $175. He stated that he didn feel right charging me for a very minor issue, he'd rather win a customer for a lifetime. I've only ever wrote one other review about a shell station and hat was in another town and trust me, it was as negative as can be. Then today, while putting 200 bucks worth of diesel in the truck, I was greeted by an older gentleman. His customer service was excellent! He was welcoming, he washed both trucks windows, he was pleasant to talk too. He said he's only been working there for 5 months, and he is enjoying his job. You can really tell he really cares about his job, the station. You can definitely tell the work ethics between the older generation and the new generation. This older gentleman is definitely a keeper and the gas station owner she be extremely proud and honored to have such a truly caring and dedicated employee. I wish I got this guys name. So, my car broke down on the way to work. I called this shell multiple times over an hour to be sure they could serve me. After spending $140 on the tow I was then denied because of a less than favorable yelp review some time back. I had to pay an additional $90 dollars to tow it AGAIN 2 BLOCKS away. Isn't criticism a chance to grow? If the denial was based on a yelp review, couldn't they have let me know before I payed to come to their shop? I was told that the relationship had already been severed, whatever the heck that means.. so tell me that in the beginning. I have to get to work to pay my bills to take care of my family. Needed a brakes/lamp inspection as well as STAR smog following collision repair before taking the car to DMV. This Elk Grove Shell service station just got its certification for brakes/lamps again recently (early September 2016). Called to make an appointment, service "office" located inside the gas station/convenience store door at a desk toward the back. The estimate was under $200 for the brakes, lamps, smog and certificates. However, since we didn't pass the brakes/lamp inspection, they charged for additional labor and parts to fix and the total ended up being more like $772. Sigh. Smog passed the first time, thank goodness. The manager was friendly, they called to let me know what they found and how to proceed, when it was finally ready for pickup. Ring you up at the gas station front counter. No real waiting area, I suppose you could just hang out at the library, walk through Old Elk Grove or get a ride. read more

While driving down the road my car literally died and I had just enough momentum to roll into the shell service station. I knew it was wrong and knew it needed to be fixed. Spoke to Sean who was the manager and he said he can take care of the problem. I was in a jam but I did not feel like I was being pressured to have them service my car. Even though my car was literally broke down on their property. Sean was very helpful, professional and a comfortable person to work with. The staff was friendly and even gave me free coffee while filling out the paperwork. The work was quickly done and reasonably priced. If you need some work done give these guys a call. Check Engine Light came on the day I needed to get my car smogged for DMV register. The dealearship estimated over $900 and could do the work in two weeks. Other independent shops gave no better replies. Seems like the Check Engine Light is their ticket to rip off the consumer. Then I went to Elk Grove Shell based on a referral from a good friend. Aaron and his team took in my car, troubleshot the code, fixed the code, changed the oil, and smogged my car in less than one day. Then charged this US Air Force Veteran an very favorabe price - less than the estimate. The team at Elk Grove Shell is fantastic. I highly recommend you take your car to these pros. read more

I wanted to like this place. Being new to the area, I was unexpectedly in search of a mechanic.my car broke down and got towed here. I was greeted at the tow truck, where Richard the manager greeted me. Once inside he offered me complimentary coffee as he got the paperwork started. The diagnostic fee is $130. Which does not roll into the balance of any work performed. This is rare, I've been to a few mechanics in Bay Area & this is more common there, to have the diagnostic charge applied to parts/labor. My quote was $694 MORE than another shop. No brainer here... utilize another AAA tow to go somewhere else. As I waited for the tow, my ride was inside buying a snack. As she walked in, the employees & cashier (blondish hair) were making fun of me & my car. Stating that my car is newish, and that I must be a typical girl & think that just putting gas in my car = effort into maintaining my car. Really?? How about you ask about my history with the car, check service records for oil changes etc. This behavior in inexcusable. It's rude. It's gender targeted and its flat out wrong. They will not get my business nor will I buy gas from them nor refer anyone I know to them. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere. read more

This gas station is over priced. They advertise the CASH and CREDIT prices on their signs but what they don't tell you is that using your debit card does not constitute paying the cash price. A few other gas stations in the area charge the cash price when you pay with your debit card, Shell is NOT one of them. I inquired with the gas station attendant as to why this is the case. He informed me that it's at the owners discretion and the owner of Shell chooses to rip their customers off. Conveniently located but inconveniently priced. read more

Car needed an idler pulley replaced. They charged me 75 dollars for the part a part they order from Napa Auto Parts when at NAPAs online site they charge 30 for the same part, same part #. Labor is very high at 120. Shady business practice. If there's a fee for bringing it over or any kind of fee it should've been included in the invoice. I had to take my car here for a STAR smog because it was the closest to my house that was open on the weekend. This shop is connected to the Shel gas station. I went in on a Saturday and said that I had an appointment. He took in my car and said that it would be done in about 45 minutes. Since the shop is connected to the gas station, there wasn't a real waiting room area. There was a bench outside that was considered as their "waiting room". I was going to go to the library across the street, but it wasn't open, so I just sat on the bench. Joseph called me in after 30 minutes and, unfortunately, my baby didn't pass smog. He told me what was wrong and said that he could get it done within a few days. I decided to have them search for the necessary parts and just call me back when they found them. They called me back and said that they had the parts. I took it back in on Wednesday to get it fixed 7:30am. However, since their guys won't be able to start looking at my car until 8am and it would take a few hours, I had to go elsewhere. Since the library wouldn't be opened until 10am, I decided to walk to Denny's for breakfast. He told me it would take about 3-4 hours, and I did actually wait 4 hours until I got my car back. I guess they had to wait for Audi to send over a part that they had asked for earlier, but didn't receive yet. Overall, my experience here was great! The guys were super friendly and professional. The only thing that sucked was that they don't have a waiting room. If you're planning to get something done here that will take a long time, either have someone pick you up and just come back when it's ready, or you have to walk somewhere. The library doesn't open until 10am. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to get a STAR smog, or another service, done. I'll be coming back. I'll just be more prepared to wait outside, or have someone pick me up. read more

As far as has stations go- very clean inside - service is always friendly. They do basic maintenance on cars as well and maybe more. I know they do smog inspections and tires and some other things - so check them out. I always use Shell for my cars because I believe that their gas is a little better then most. I had a fender-bender and state farm refused to pay for the repair and totalled my car. They reported my car as 'not operational' eventhough the damage was just the fender and bumper and everything else works properly. DMV will not renew my registration until my car passes inspection and the Shaolin 18-bronzemen gauntlet. Elk Grove Shell Service Center is the only place in town that is certified to do so. Howard gave me a quote when I called, set up an appointment, and it took just about an hour to complete the inspection. Staff is super friendly too. Overall +AAA business. read more

I went there yesterday, because I had some issues with my car passing smog. I ask to get a dianogstic which cost $133. So the gentleman says it will be an hour and half. So, as I'm waiting I had the best conversations with these guys in the office. They make you feel comfortable and at ease. When it was all done. The mechanic explains to me that he fixed the problem and my check engine light went off and instead of charging me for the 133 he is just going to smog my car so it will pass for $58. And it did. He saved me alot of money! I am forever grateful for that. Their customer service is exceptional and they're not there to just take your money. I will be going back. If I could rate higher then 5 star I would give them a 10. They're solid people! read more

I am 30 years old and was on a children's bike attempting to get gas for a broken down vehicle so I had two gas cans with me. Attempted to buy cigarettes and she would not do it. She could not use her context clue that obviously this customers already having a bad enough day, I've also been in here before. Its a gas station. It has gas and food. The benefit of this station is it is at the U-turn to get back on the 99 after you have stopped for Chick-fil-a. All in all I recommend this place if it is on the right when you need gas. read more

took my car in for a Star smog well they over heated my car they let the car idle and sit there for 45 min before they started the test i did not here them put a fan in front like there supposed too. did the test out of order by the time they ran it on the dyno radiator had blown and did not even run it for a minute on the dyno and still charged me for a test the aborted. i dont understabnd why they charged me for a test they did not perform???? the only reason im doing a negative review is because the service writer acted like he did not care about what happened did not even talk to me intill i asked what happened and if i was going to be charged for something they did not even do. read more

Nice and clean gas station. Located in a good area where cars can easily enter. They even have the propel fuel here.

When I stopped for a fill-up in 105-degree heat, the young man working there came right out and cleaned my windows, like in the old days, and checked my tire pressure. Good thing, too, because they were over 50 psi! He also made sure that I knew how to check the pressure myself. I'll be back often. read more

Very convenient and clean location near downtown Elk Grove, but that alone isn't why I am giving out five stars. After parking at the pump and preparing to pay, a young man in a Shell shirt came out and insisted on washing my windshield! I'm not even remotely old enough to remember when something like this was commonplace at gas stations, but it was a nice touch.
