Cool spot off the beaten path. Had some good cold brews and a nice chat with the brewmaster. I'll be back.

The place reeks of bleach. Smells like a swimming pool. No way I'd drink beer in here!

A few of the places recommended to us had already closed, but I had read that Junkyard had an amazing pulled pork BBQ sandwich. Since we definitely weren't dressed for anything fancy, I told my fiancé that a brewery sounded perfect. When we pulled up and saw that the place was veteran-owned, it immediately felt meant to be. My fiancé is a veteran as well, so that made it even more special. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff and told to sit wherever we liked. We looked around for a bit but eventually settled at the bar -- and I'm so glad we did. While we were there, we ended up chatting with the bartenders and other patrons, and everyone made us feel genuinely welcome. After such a long day on the road, it felt less like stopping at a brewery and more like walking into a place full of friends. Great food, great atmosphere, and even better people. We'll absolutely be back!

It went from that to junkyard/brewery/food truck/auto parts store and now it's a junkyard/ brewery/barbeque inside and they might sell parts here now and again. They have it set up kind of quaint and worth the stop to check it out.

We passed through Socorro during a long day on the road after visiting my father south of Tucson…read more We stopped in to Capitol rather than one of the other two breweries on the plaza to get a stamp in our Hop Passport. A very pleasant bartender seated my wife, our young puppy, and me on their very nice patio, and brought the pup a bowl of water without being asked, which we always appreciate. I ordered an IPA and my wife got a stout, as February is stout month at craft breweries all around the country. Both of us thought our beers were delicious and well balanced. To our surprise, there were ashtrays on several of the tables on the patio, and a man was smoking a cigar a few tables from us (smoking is banned inside and out at all business establishments in Colorado). The piped-in music was rather eclectic - everything from 70s classic rock to Shakira to modern auto-tuned pop. We had just had lunch in Hatch, so did not try the food. We have decided that we will spend the night in Socorro on an upcoming trip to see my dad, as the town looks like a lot of fun and we really want to try the other local brewpubs.

I got a flight of beers: the Green Chile Lager actually had quite a spicy kick (definitely an acquired taste). My favorite was the 49er's Oktoberfest Lager. The Hoppenheimer was a strong IPA with a 9.3% ABV, and the Ladrones Mexican Lager was crisp and refreshing. For food, I tried the Socorro Dog ($11). It's supposed to have bacon, but I couldn't really see or taste any. I liked the combo of shredded Gouda, green chile, tomato relish, and beer mustard. The poppy seed bun was also a nice touch. We also shared a 12 inch Supreme Pizza ($14.50) with olives, sausage, green chile, mushrooms, and pepperoni. I liked the thin crust. I also ordered the Birds of a Feather cocktail ($13) which had dark aged rum, Aperol, pineapple juice, lime, and simple syrup. I asked for a splash of Prosecco to make it sparkling, and it was indeed refreshing. They also have a pool table ($1 per rack) and a dog-friendly outdoor patio, which I always like to see. There's also plenty of board games to borrow. The only downside was that the bathrooms could use a little cleaning and updating. Overall though, this was a solid spot with good drinks and a chill vibe.

I see how the owners make each one of us in our melting pot of a kitchen feel seen and cared for. Working under owners that ask us about our lives, celebrate our birthdays, grab us a treat on a hot day, throw a thank you party at the end of summer, and just genuinely care. I see the priority and their vision of making everyone that walks through those doors feel welcomed. And then there's the foodie in me. There is nothing on the menu that I don't love. The hardest part about coming in is deciding what I'm going to eat for the day, but it usually ends up bbq for lunch and pizza for dinner.

Order at the counter and you are given a buzzer to call you back when the food is ready. We went for lunch and it was pretty active, not much for non-alcohol options other than bottles and soda fountain. I went to the bar to get some nice craft beer. It is a full bar and can make whatever you need. BBQ was great, there are no sides unless you order additional or a meal. Not even a roll. Anyway, it was great BBQ and the place must rock at night as they have a stage for band and karaoke. Pretty large area for dancing and many video game machines.
