Worth exiting off I-81. Clean and roomy bathrooms. Safe area to stretch your legs. Friendly and competent staff. Great variety of coffee and alternative to cow's milk choices. Locally owned.

We often travel up and down I-81, and were looking for a unique lunch place the other day.

I would've never thought to put peanut butter in the combo but it was delicious. That particular waffle is an authentic Belgian waffle. My husband got the Sammie and said it was delicious. Do t be afraid to try some of their unique items. Friendly, clean, and a must to try! We were traveling through but would love to stop again.

When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. I'm sure no matter what your preference is, you will find something that meets your palate here. We chose the chorizo, egg and avocado waffle and my wife had the wiskets (waffle+biscuits) and gravy. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for? Maybe I'm just salty because we were very near $40 for a mediocre breakfast for two, but the tipping thing just feels a bit tone deaf.

The parking lot is sizeable and there is a rear entrance to the restaurant from the parking area in the back. I walked around and entered through the front and found a very busy restaurant. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to wait to be seated but after a minute of standing awkwardly at the door I took a seat at one of the little half booths that they have available. The restaurant is a good size with a bar and a private room on the side. It took quite a while for one of the two servers working to get to me. Best I can tell is that one of the servers was relatively new so there was lots of instruction going on in addition to serving a restaurant full of people. It was spaghetti night and Armstrong's spaghetti is, apparently, popular! I ordered a hot dog with chili, slaw and mustard. Server came back a few minutes later and said they were out of chili. And did I just want onions and mustard.... So, I corrected her to slaw and mustard and out the hot dog came. Just a hot dog on a plate. The menu said that the hot dog came with chips. I reminded my server of that. She took the plate back and returned with a hot dog and what looked like the crumbs from the bottom of a wavy Lays bag. I had asked for ranch to dip the chips in but very few of these were dippable. The hot dog wasn't great. The slaw here was SUPER sweet and without the chili flavor to balance it, it was overwhelmingly sweet. Overall, just not a great experience. I can empathize with two servers working a busy restaurant but I still was left wanting more.

I got a cinnamon roll bigger than my hand to go when we checked out after breakfast. We were promptly greeted upon entry and sat in a booth. My husband covered cream chipped beef because that's not something we usually see on menus near us. I got biscuits and sausage gravy. The portions were HUGE. We could have done with a half serving of that was an option or shared. My husband thought his chipped beef was a little floury but my gravy was good. I did have to add some salt and pepper to my eggs which I guess I can understand that maybe people don't want them pre salted in case they are on a restricted diet. Pricing was reasonable for the portion size. $35 for 2 people with my to go pastry before tip. The restaurant has a bit of an old timer feel. It's been in business since 1947 which is pretty cool. They also have signs about closed areas for groups and they accept buses. If I'm in the area again, I think I'll try an eclair. My cinnamon roll was super moist which I was honestly pleasantly surprised by since it was a to go pastry. They also have a fridge with glass door that showed other to go options like the chopped beef and cinnamon apples.

The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.

Lousy house blend coffee and mediocre food. If you are staying at this hotel, I would not recommend buying a breakfast voucher that is offered you at the time of online pre-registration and check in ($35 for two people, includes tax but excludes tips). Either eat outside ( plenty of choices nearby) or go a la cart. We went for a combo breakfast. Bacon was meaty and not crisp and quite salty, eggs were good. Croissants were not part of the voucher and you have to pay extra if you order, same goes for cappuccino or latte ( with a voucher you get only a house blend) . I don't think we will be coming back . One time experience was good enough. But if you are a cappuccino & croissant for breakfast type of person, this is a good place for you. Just stay away from artificially flavored juices
