The detangling process was rough and my hair wasn't sectioned so that strands weren't being snagged during the process, which hurt. The dry process was also disappointing -- we started with a paddle brush and then moved onto a round brush once it was easier to brush through my curls, and after that my roots were still wet (and this process too wasn't gentle on my curls). I thought Ben would go back through to dry my roots, but he went right to the flatiron for my silk press. He did so many passes of the flatiron on each piece of hair, and because the ends were still tangled, it pulled and ripped almost every time when he chased the flatiron with the comb. I'm at home now several hours later and I can smell my hair (burnt). I felt confident I could go to a nice salon and that at least one stylist would be able to do Black hair, but it seems as though I was wrong and that was still a gamble. Unfortunately, I don't plan to come back.

I came 8 min before my appointment time and they made me wait 25 minutes, I was not well. I told them my situation and this hair cut was only temporary. They charged me $136. I felt really low. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. The entire salon staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. On the other hand, the makeup application was highly disappointing. The artist was disengaged and lacked professional warmth. More importantly, the execution was poor; the foundation looked caked on, highlighted my fine lines, and photographed with a strange orange hue.
