Table for 11 in a quiet nook just past the bar was perfect for us. Service was very friendly as the waitress came out to ask if we wanted the kids food first - we did. Then we waited a very very long time for the rest of the food. Oversight in communication between the staff was quickly resolved once the mistake was realized (almost an hour later), and was made right on the back end. Food was good. High praises for the shrimp lettuce wraps, the ribs, Korean fried rice, string beans and streak frites. We didn't drink and skipped dessert and the bill was beyond reasonable. Unfortunately, we never got to experience the food at Ellen's. We reserved a table for three people on a Saturday night for 6 PM. When we arrived, there was only one other table , a twosome and they were having their appetizers. After sitting down at our table we waited at least fifteen minutes for anybody to come to us, we then asked a young lady if she would let our waitress know we were ready to order drinks. We were told the waitress was busy. Turns out the waitress was also the person who showed us our table, and was also the person filling to go orders. After twenty minutes of waiting the waitress came up to us and quite coldly asked us for our beverage order. By then, our disappointment in the way the evening was going was not worth the wait. Sitting there without at least anyone coming up to us and taking a beverage order along with the cold, uncaring vibe we got from the hostess, waitress, and take out order filler was enough for us to go to a place that seemed to care about their customers. read more

I had a fantastic dinner here this winter. Menu was small but we were all able to find something absolutely delicious. The food was really flavorful and well prepared. Portions were generous and we were all very satisfied. Drinks were only okay but in my opinion the food makes up for it. The service was great and felt super personal. So I want to start with the bad actually since there was only one thing that was actually bad but was unfortunately significant enough to notice. This place has a great modern cozy and intimate vibe and gets super busy for dinner service. Bad thing is is they paired my table of 5 and everybody else in the building with one waiter. There might have been a secret person hiding somewhere but never saw anybody but our waiter handling everything. Which is unfortunate since our service was greatly diminished. The table ordered drinks but didn't get them till way late in the service and had to remind them of a missing drink. Basically never saw the waiter again till the end of it even though we could've gotten a side. But other than that - the food was really nice. Ordered the lobster roll - which they were super accommodating with to remove celery - and the lobster was plentiful and sweet - though personally I'd probably add some more herbs or sauce but still very good. My husband got this tea infused fried chicken that he really liked as well. Tried some mac and cheese and ginger string beans. The mac was fine - nothing to really write home about. But the string beans were absolutely divine! Recommend ordering that for sure! read more

We have gotten delivery from Ellen's previously and enjoyed it. We happened to be able to dine in last week. It was pretty empty when we got there. And sat by the window. This restaurant is a absolutely great with service and charm. To be greeted by Ellen, and seeing her photo on the wall, very cool. The food here is exquisite, we started with two salads, pea leaves w/ crispy quinoa, and the arugula & squash salad. It was refreshing and hearty, definitely try that! We had the General Jennie's Cauliflower and the calamari, it was crisp and well seasoned, just delicious! Now the star of the show has to be their sweet tea brined fried chicken! My goodness, I think it was the best fried chicken I ever had. So crispy, so juicy, packed with flavor, really a divine experience, we ordered the Chinese style string beans as a side, those were really good too! Friends and I recently enjoyed delicious entrees at Ellen's on Front after visiting several vineyards. Kudos to Ellen's chef for an outstanding half rack of ribs with perfectly prepared garlic string-beans that I chose for a side. The bartender, who greeted us and also waited on our table, was lovely, and made outstanding martini's, especially their offering of a Thai Basil martini. I highly recommend Ellen's on Front for dinner on your visit to North Fork. My only critique is that the restaurant's outdoor signage is very small especially for newcomers to the area of busy Greenport. I drove down Front St. twice without seeing the sign, and ended up dropping a couple of friends off in the vicinity of where the restaurant might be located and went on to park the car. They spotted the sign on foot. read more

This was my husband and I's first time eating here and I so wish they were in NYC!! I would eat here every week if I could. The grilled Caesar was perfectly charred and the crispy chickpeas were delicious. The duck wings -- speechless. The skin was so perfectly crispy and not over sauced. You could really taste the duck, which was moist and cooked to perfection. The fried rice was not only comforting, but extremely flavorful without being too salty. Fried rice can typically be simple, but this had so much personality. The atmosphere is adorable and the service was great. Would definitely recommend eating here if you're in Greenport. read more

Everyone is right on about the fried chicken!! Perfect crunch, incredibly moist, and the honey butter is the bomb. We went on a Thursday night about a half hour before closing. We had a wedding to attend on Saturday so my hubby and I shared the fried chicken and Korean seasoned green beans and we had leftovers! What we loved about Ellens is that the chef infuses Asian and Latin flavors into American comfort food. It is probably the most unique restaurant in Greenport. Service was very good and helpful. The chicken sandwich I just made passionate love to today, was possibly the best fried chicken I've had since Prince's Hot Chicken in Nashville. This places is so great! The owners were so friendly and welcoming. A great place to come with kids. They even had a kids menu and the staff was Simon great with them. The food was delicious. Restaurants usually work with you if you have food allergies, but this one, when asked if they can not batter the shrimp and just sauté or grill it (to be gluten free) in one of their entrees, the waiter with an attitude said, "that wouldn't be right". Things we loved about it included the eclectic and delicious menu that worked across our diverse group of meat lovers and vegans. Standouts included the fish tacos, chicken fried rice, and olives.
