We live out of town but over the last 4 months we been to Ukiah many weeks in total. The Mutt Hut has been one of our favorite restaurants. It has a big variety of choices and the food tastes amazing. We're a big family and have eaten almost everything on the menu. Some of our favorites the chicken avocado salad, BBQ chicken salad, the burgers, every sandwich, the soups, milkshakes and so many other items. Ellie's Mutt Hut is a Ukiah staple! When I lived in Northern California, it's safe to say I ate here at least every other week and sometimes more! LOCATION: On the corner of South State Street and Freitas Avenue next to Beverly's Fabrics. They have a small parking lot adjacent the building. There is however a larger parking lot to the southwest off Freitas. SPACE: The space is def smaller - so you may have a bit of a wait if you choose to dine in. They have a great enclosed patio space and a handful of tables inside. EATS/SIPS: My personal recommendation is the #12 - Grilled Assorted Veggies sandwich. So delish! Grilled assorted veggies, mayo, and feta, on a wheat bun. Yum! Top it off with a Chai Milkshake. Perfect! SERVICE: Staff is always friendly and while the orders can take a bit more time, it's totes worth it! While I don't find myself in Ukiah as much as I'd like anymore - I know when I do I'll be grabbing some eats at Ellie's Mutt Hut for sure! read more

The service is not exceptional but acceptable. The food is out of the world excellent! Food is delivered hot and prepared to your specifications. My only complaint about the restaurant is that their prices are too high. One of my co-workers ran to grab a bowl of soup for lunch, the serving was about 2 cups and the price was $10! read more

I'm sitting here reading some of the reviews for this wonderful eatery and I just can't believe what I'm reading!! I eat here at least once a week and I can honestly say that Elle's is a treasure that Ukiah should be proud of. I have eaten just about everything on the menu except for tofu, I don't like tofu but the fact that it has so many items that have tofu just shows that it has everything that a vegan could want as well as satisfying the hunger of a meat eater like myself. The staff are always very nice and although sometimes it might take a little while to get to me I never see the staff just standing around. Cozy little restaurant. We were able to enjoy breakfast this morning with coffee. Not to noisy, top 40 music playing in the back ground not to loud. We were able to enjoy our conversation. Restrooms are outside, did not get a chance to check them out. Parking is limited, there is over flow parking on the street and across the street. Food and service is good. read more

Came back again the 2nd time. Ask for tofu spread on the side. Missed Johnny cakes by 45 minutes. Cutoff 11:30 am. The sandwich is delicious. The tofu was organic marinated with tamarind. Coffee was organic and smooth. Service is inconsistent. When you get it, they are great. When you don't, you sit and get hungrier and hungrier. Don't sit next to parked cars. Exhaust will get you. Bathroom is very clean and huge. Wish i had room for peach cobbler. Guess what? After coming home to Bay area, long drive, feeling exhausted, writing reviews, i now realize what was strange with my sandwich! I took a picture. They totally forgot the most important ingredient! Avocados in #7 AVOCADO and tofu sandwich! Where's waldo? Where's the avocado? Is this intentional? We will never know! C'est la vie! Mon dieu! Gave it a 2nd chance. The first time i got chicken linguine, it was ok. This time we got Johnny cakes and cornbread with blackbeans. The pancakes were disgusting. Usually a restaurant with the word "Mutt" in the name probably isn't going to be my first choice. But, we were feeling adventurous and also hungry. We were greeted by a friendly face and had our choice of tables(we were a bit early on a Saturday). The coffee was good and arrived quickly in a small pot to do our own refills (I loved this). My husband ordered fresh squeezed OJ. It was delicious, and should have been with the $8 price tag. I ordered an omelette. The eggs were perfectly fluffy and the stuffing was perfectly cooked (the bits of ham had been slightly browned first, giving it a nice finish). My husband got the buckwheat pancakes. He wasn't as excited about his, mostly because the syrup was fake maple. We switched plates halfway through and I loved the actual pancake. "Johnnycakes" - I thought they were delicious. Like a cross between a crepe and an American pancake. Thin, with a bit of crisp around the edges. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to go back the next day. Despite being short staffed, we again got friendly and prompt service. I had the huevos rancheros this time and they were pretty good (I think we both did). I would prefer to have my beans on the side and not layered like a torta. But, why Polish Sausage on the side? I could have passed on that. My eggs were perfectly cooked again.. bug points there. I love Ellie's, and I've been getting food from here for over 20 years. The food is great, but tonight we had multiple problems with our order. I know mistakes happen, but by the time the first mistake was remedied my order was still incorrect. It is somewhat understandable to mix up 2 orders with the same name, but when we got home and discovered that we had someone else's food, I was appalled that they asked us to bring the other food back. While all we wanted was our correct food, and to not have to drive back and forth multiple times, I have to wonder what was done with the food we returned. Not to mention a few people waiting for orders looked pretty confused when we came back in with packaged food. To top it off, while we had checked the order we came back for, I didn't spot the cucumbers in my salad that I had asked to leave off. They were under the dressing cups, and there was no red onion, which I had asked for as a substitute. It was even read back to us (twice by this point) by the counter staff. There was no way I was going to bother any further with the situation as we were quite hungry. I've had great food and service from here many times before, and I will definitely be returning. But some of what happened tonight definitely needs to be addressed. Potentially obvious food safety violations and a lack of attentiveness really did it for me tonight. read more

Tofu and grains is my go-to for years. Still very tasty. Only once was there not enough veggies. Also if you have to have a hot dog. This is the place. Especially the hurt dog. Chili dog good too. My real only gripe about this place is their inconsistency with timing on to-go orders. They will always tell me 15-20 minutes, I show up within the time frame, and 80% of the time I still have to wait an addition 15-20 minutes before my order is ready. Their food is great, their service is ok, but I wish they'd get the timing on their to go food better. If it's going to take 45 minutes, tell me it's going to take that long. read more

Amazing place for vegetarians. They have a versatile menu for vegetarians. I had veggie lasagna which was awesome. Mushroom spud and veggies spud was great. Lot of veggie sandwiches. I left Ukiah 18 years ago and one of the only things I miss is this restaurant, and specifically the tofu scramble. I've begged them to overnight it to me, and they can't. My daughter recently visited and brought one back on the plane for me and it was everything amazing that it's always been and I wish I could eat it every day! Food was good, service too although a little slow. I asked for gluten free options, mainly salads but can substitute buns/bread. I had the Apple Walnut Salad with no croutons, very tasty! Had a pita which was ok. Hummus was spicy which is not bad but would be nice if I knew that beforehand (was not listed on menu). Hummus was actually the best part of the pita! I'm surprised that I could be more and more disappointed every time I come here. A few months ago they gave me an English muffin that could break a tooth. The last time we came my friend got a taco salad that was swimming in chili juice and inedible. This time, the staff wasn't friendly and didn't give me napkins or silverware. The food quality is inconsistent. My veggie wrap was dry, with ingredients that were never there before, and my side of chicken, that was 6 tiny pieces and sadly displayed, was SEVEN dollars. They gave me a dirty dish for the onions on the side, and the dishes were chipped. Continuing to eat here is like banging my head against a wall. Not very smart. I won't be back. read more
