Always smiles and happy faces at Ellie's. Joy is the kindest human and an incredible chef!

At Ellie's Tap and Vine in the Santa Ynez Valley, it's always smiles, happy faces, and good times. This place truly embodies the spirit of a community where everybody knows your name. Locals gather here to enjoy the good life with excellent food, superb wine, and even better conversations. Laughter and smiles are constants at Ellie's. As a self-confessed high-maintenance foodie, I am always impressed by Ellie's. The menu is ever-changing, reflecting local and seasonal flavors. The staff greets every guest with a smile and a welcoming attitude, making you feel right at home. For all these reasons, Ellie's Tap and Vine remains one of our favorite restaurants in the valley.

I went hear to celebrate a promotion at work. I was not disappointed! I ordered the short ribs as my main and tuna as my appetizer. Someone else ordered the liver and I nearly died it was so good! Everything was absolutely delicious and the meat fell off the bone. I appreciated that the owner/chef came out to speak to everyone. She truly spent time with each table and conversed about various things. This was in between cooking for the tables. I brought visiting family a few weeks later and it was equally delicious. The ambiance was nice and intimate with dim lighting throughout. Inside and outside seating depending on the weather I think. I have only ever eaten inside. Anyway, I will definitely be returning.

One of the best meals I've ever had! Jay the cheff came out to make sure we enjoyed our meal and he was very sweet. The meal was 10/10 the short rib fell off the bone (they needed to tie it on! Lol) The risotto was fantastic. And the best thing of the meal was the whipped mash potatoes. Do not forget to try this dish!

We had such a great meal and experience here! Excellent food and wine, great service, and a casual yet elegant ambience that proved to be a winning combination! PLUS we had the chef/owner Joy cooking our delicious meal right next to us as we sat at the bar! We will definitely be going back here again soon. Run, don't walk....to Ellie's Tap and Vine!

Before you enjoy Solvang at Christmas, stay the night and enjoy the most amazing dinner at Ellie's! Wow! You walk in and the smells coming from Chef Joy's kitchen will fill you with nothing but JOY! It's like walking into your best friend's home and she or he has been cooking all day for you. The love just pours through! Cheers! And just for reference we started with the Bruleed Humboldt Fog then moved onto the chop salad then had the duck and finished with the scrumptious bread pudding with wine pairings! Thank you to the whole staff but especially Joy and Michele for a wonderful evening! Xoxox

I've been eye balling the menu and reviews for a few weeks and I am happy to share that this pace was amazing! Loved the ambiance and food choices. Went back for a second time and tried something different, again, great choices for food and I will continue to frequent this establishment. Highly recommend the spicy sautéed calamari appetizer! It's fresh with a nice slight kick at the end and no breading. Sauce is great for dipping any leftover bread if you ordered the bread basket. For the entree I chose the Creekside centercut 8 oz au poivre and it was amazing! Perfect size serving. I don't eat beef often but was really glad I chose this dish. This menu does change due to seasonal items.

He was excellent--he walked us through the specials, took our orders accurately, and provided fantastic service throughout the evening. The food was outstanding. We started with the Pomegranate Spritz, which was excellent. The bread and butter service with the baguette, chimichurri glaze, and pickled onions was delicious, and we noticed almost every table was ordering it. The New England Clam Chowder soup special was creamy, delicious, and generously portioned, as was the perfectly fried calamari. For our main course, we both had the short ribs, which were fork-tender and paired perfectly with the creamy mashed potatoes. The only disappointment of the evening was that we had noted in our online reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, but this was never acknowledged during our visit. Despite this minor oversight, we had a great experience and will definitely return the next time we are in Solvang. Please pass along our compliments to George and the kitchen staff.

The restaurant decor is nice, though nothing special, with a sizeable patio for outdoor dining. We started with a couple of local wines by the glass. The wine list here is heavily biased towards local wines as one would expect from a wine country restaurant. Kudos for the local focus! The menu here is wine country, farm-to-table and the restaurant even has their own organic farm a short distance away where they source ingredients. For dinner we started with the beet salad special served over a citrus yogurt. For main courses we had the grilled rack of lamb and a quinoa bowl with salmon. Every dish was expertly prepared and delicious. The fruits and veggies were exceptionally fresh being sourced directly. David was our server and coincidentally was our server at a wine tasting earlier in the day. His service and that from the supporting team were professional and friendly. The positive first: walking in everybody was super friendly and greeted us with a smile, and sat us down right away on the patio since we had our dog with us. We ordered the baked brie appetizer and two glasses of red wine. My husband had the Austin Hope Cab and I had a red blend. I don't remember the brand name. It was a little bit expensive for a glass of wine. I wanna say around $25 but we both were in the mood for a good wine and wanted to treat ourselves. The baked Brie was delicious. Negative: the fish and chips and the service. I was so excited to see fish and chips on the menu because it was halibut. I'm used to cod in fish and chips so of course I had to order since I am a huge halibut lover. The table next to us also said what an amazing meal that was and ordered one to go. We received our fish and chips from not our server and the person dropped the meal and left without asking us if we needed anything. My husband and I looked at the fish and chips and immediately started laughing. It looked like little fish nuggets as opposed to fish! I kind of thought we were being punked. We waited and waited for the server to come by or a manager or some thing and could not get anybody to come talk to us. It took 14 minutes for her to finally come tap on our table and ask if everything was OK. We told her it was not OK and to look at the size of the fish and she said she would go tell the kitchen and asked if we wanted to remake it. At that point, we weren't even hungry anymore. We were just kind of annoyed at the entire situation. She comes back out a few minutes later and says we're going to take it off of your bill. We don't see her for a while and then the manager comes over and says we took it off of your bill. He didn't ask if there's any way to make it right he just said OK anyways and walked away at the end. Being in the restaurant industry for many years, I thought this was pretty offensive. If I were him, I probably would have made another one right away or offered something they are known for like their pizza. So overall, I wouldn't be back. I think there's many other restaurants around there and to be treated like that after how we were served....no thank you!

After walking in and passing the host stand, a server who was seated at the bar got up, walked us to a table, and suggested we sit on the loveseat. The host was friendly and welcoming, and the space itself seemed promising. We were excited to settle in, have a drink, and check the place out. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but shortly after we were seated, a larger group came in. From that point on, it felt like we were completely forgotten. The server focused on the larger party, taking drink orders and delivering beverages as more guests from their group arrived. Meanwhile, we sat waiting without any acknowledgment. Another group of ladies was seated nearby and appeared just as confused about who was helping them. We both work in the restaurant industry, so we understand that larger parties can demand attention and that things don't always go perfectly. We tried to be patient and give the team the benefit of the doubt. However, after waiting more than 15 minutes without anyone checking on us, taking a drink order, or even acknowledging our table, we decided to leave. What made the experience especially frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived. We never felt welcomed beyond being shown to our table, and ultimately it felt like our business wasn't valued. Hopefully this was just an off night, because the atmosphere and concept seemed like something we would have enjoyed. We'd be willing to give it another chance, but first impressions matter, and unfortunately this one missed the mark. Sadly, it looks like we definitely missed out on the famous Bowl for Two.

In fact, I professionally moonlight as Historian specializing in medieval English history! This means that I am a sucker for anything reminding of the time period; making the Santa Barbara-adjacent Danish city of Solvang right up my alley with its medieval storybook streets/architecture. Among the many spots in Solvang that make my heart go pitter-patter is The Good Life: a cellar wine/ale/tavern- bar. Grab your favorite wench and come along to grab a pint... Stroll down Mission Drive in the famous Danish city of Solvang and you will be delighted to venture upon The Good Life that appears to pop out of a medieval history book with exposed wooden beans, plaster exterior walls and an entrance that resides at basement level (they don't call it a cellar bar for nothing!). Owned by a husband-wife team with extensive hospitality and restaurant experience under their belts in 2012; the charm of The Good Life is instantaneous and perfect for a gal like me obsessed with this sort of thing. Prepare to be instantly transported into the 15th century! Once you cross the threshold of The Good Life, the Shakesperean feel continues but is also modernized with a glowing fireplace, plush arm chairs and high bar tables (plus bar seating) and floor to ceiling wine racks. The Good Life is a perfect ratio of Solvang tradition with hints of romance making it ideal for a casual beverage, tourist pop-in or memorable date night drink. The latter is exactly how my boyfriend and I happened to come across The Good Life as we were visiting Solvang from Los Angeles for the city's Christmas-time Julefest. We had just spent the evening making holiday memories among the city's Christmas trees, twinkling lights and sugary delights. Post Danish-dinner, we decided to wrap up our forever-Solvang memory with a drink at The Good Life. We were immediately greeted by the male manning The Good Life without any attitude or distaste towards us for coming in as he was preparing to close for the evening. If he was upset with us in any way - he certainly didn't show it! The Good Life features an amazing menu of local and international wines, beers, ales, meads, ciders, and ports that make The Good Life feel fancy-schmancy and artisan; but also, neighborhood friendly for your favorite hipster or friend next door. My boyfriend and I shared a cider (I wish I remembered the specific one but alas my memory evades me) while enjoying the atmosphere of warmth at The Good Life. Other customers sat in the plush chairs with notepads and tarot cards, an older couple arrived to cap off the evening and I enjoyed the view of my boyfriend in a medieval-Danish inspired cellar bar. The Good Life is standout at accommodating to all customers and making sure no one feels out of place. A bountiful tip as important as the bosom of a medieval bar wench: the bathroom at The Good Life is labeled as 'Office'. Don't worry, you won't walk in on someone preparing accounting books and the only business happening behind this door involves you and your private matters. The Good Life is delightful and unique but doesn't just stop there: it also differentiates itself with a truly impressive alcohol selection that allows you to be introduced to local, national, Danish and international bevies you have surely not tried prior. The Good Life is recommended for a drink on your next trip to the tourist-friendly city of Solvang. Even if you aren't pretending to be in medieval times...
