*sigh* Walking around this shop makes my neshema happy :) Elliott Salter (the nice Jewish boy pawn broker) is a mensch among mensches. I, fortunately, have never had to pawn off any of my belongings (knock on wood), however it's a crazy world, and you never know what will happen. We all go through ups and downs, and I've seen uncle Elliott help those who are going through hard times. He's truly a mensch and a half! The shop of full of some of the most interesting tchotchkes and nick knacks. I could probably spend an entire day going through all of the stuff in there.... high end watches, gold, rare guitars, sports memorabilia, typewriters, deer heads, etc. You name it, and it's highly probable they have it! I took two very expensive cameras to be pawned on a loan.. both sell used on eBay consistently I might add for about $1000 each with a high sell through rate btw, these dudes at this pawn shop offered me $280 for both with such a straight face!!! It was sad and pathetic! Do the research find a pawnshops that isn't looking to rip you off they're out there believe me! Soon after leaving I found a pawnshop in Culver city that took my cameras on loan for $730! Which is still low but much more reasonable! read more

If you are accustomed to dealing with pawn shops, I will assume that you know what you are getting into. If you are not accustomed to dealing with pawn shops (which I am not) you might be surprised, as I was, to find that this shop looks quite seedy / scary. Saw a Craigslist ad for a cello, which looked like it might be an ok beach cello. Called to be sure they still had it before making the trek up there. Arrived to find a huge cage-type thing barring the door. Apparently I do not know the secret hand signal which would persuade the man behind the counter to buzz me in, so, no beach cello for me today! Just as well as I was quite creeped out. Maybe I looked suspiciously dangerous, with my music books and tuner. read more

1. This is the most overpriced pawn shop from a dozen pawn shops I buy from. I have spent a few thousand here in the past but not anymore. 2. I see items from 6 months ago completely overpriced by 50% and still didn't sell. Squash Blossom Necklaces seating on the shelf for 2 years and still about 200% overpriced and these are garbage comparing to wha to you can get online. 3. Watches are just a few and again way overpriced. I asked if they had same watch on ebay and answer was I don't know. (LOL you don't know if you have a 10K watch on ebay that is going to cost you 10% in fees?) 4. When I asked what is the best deal on the bracelet that was listed for $139 I was told that's it we just got it. LOL you are not a retail shop you are a PAWN SHOP you got it for $20 for it and asking the full price of retail. 5. White gold chain that is pawn they got for $300 and maybe worth $1,000k offered for $3,000 and when I asked price was told it actually is going to be more since gold went up. Really? These two owner and son or manager characters play theater one takes the piece to the other. Hey man what do you think about what can we do here ... well I don't know this is well priced we can't discount this. What a waste of time!!! read more

If you need some cash quickly, then this is the place. I first got a loan from them in the '70s when I lived in the area. I moved back a few years ago and needed some cash for a birthday present for my wife. I brought one of my guitars in and immediately got what I needed and Elliot and staff were great.
