I had a craving for catfish so I decided to stop by. I ordered the two piece catfish platter with fried rice and fries and a 12 piece gizzard. I was given my food quickly. The total was $18.91 and it was a good deal of food for $18.00. But I didn't like it. I first took a bite of fried gizzard and it was extremely hard and it tasted old. Like it had been battered some time ago and then quickly fried from frozen. It was not flavorful at all and to make matters worse it left a horrible aftertaste. Just a very yucky smelly aftertaste. The rest of the gizzards appeared to be fresher and there was no terrible aftertaste like the first piece however. I moved on to the catfish filets. The fish was hot and fried fresh. It was ok. Not bad really but I've had much better. I moved on to the fries. The fries were absolutely horrible. They had no taste at all and were not salted. The shrimp fried rice was good. The young woman at the window was extremely slow witted. When I made it to the window I realized they had no diet coke or Dr pepper and I decided simply to get water. She demanded $1.00 extra although a drink came with the meal. I asked her how much would the meal have cost without the drink and she said $1.00 less. So instead of simply handing me a dollar since I was not getting a drink she kept demanding that I turn over a dollar for the bottle water until the manager/owner? Informed her that it could be provided with the meal. She also forgot to put a fork in my bag although I had fried rice with my meal. read more

It's crawfish season and this place was the closest to where I'm staying in Jackson so the wife and I thought it was worth a try. Ordered 5 pounds of Cajun boiled crawfish. Came on a huge tray piled high. Thought the seasoning was a great flavor. A peppery tangy kick with a spicy heat that added flavor without burning out your senses. Really enjoyed the bugs. Only came with one piece of corn, a potato and a piece of sausage. As a meal for two I wish they would have doubled the sides because I had to fight my wife for a bite. First time visiting Ellis Seafood was today. I ordered gizzards, fries, and 2 chicken strips. I checked food before I left and noticed there were no chicken strips. The lady charged me, but left it off the ticket. They fixed my order right away, but when I opened the chicken strips , I was disappointed . They were super tiny, like both together would not equal one regular chicken strip , even from a gas station. The person taking my order didn't mention the food I ordered already came with fries, so she had me charged with two seasoned fries as well. Visited Ellis Seafood for the first time after winning a social media giveaway. The giveaway included any combo item of my choice, 2 sides and a drink. I ordered the popcorn shrimp combo with a sweet tea. My 2 sides were fries and a couple of hush puppies. I was geeked to try this place as I've heard about it on numerous occasions but I was disappointed to find out it wasn't all that. Now I'm not sure if it was the time of day, what I ordered, or what but the shrimp weren't as crispy as I would've expected them, being fried. Just very soft breaded pieces of shrimp. The fries were alright, pretty basic as any fries you'd get as a side order. Because it was technically free, I can't say much about my taste expectancy--I mean beggars can't be choosers--but it wasn't spectacular. The only thing so delicious that I wish I had more of was the hush puppies! They were literally everything; I hate I didn't get them as my main side. Once again I don't know if I should've ordered another menu item (like the catfish, etc) or I didn't get the freshest batch so I'm not writing it off. I never get tired of this place. Their spicy garlic butter crawfish is amazing! I'd get bread at Little Caesar's just so I can dip it in the sauce. You can order the level of spiciness, I usually get it medium spicy. Their hushpuppies are my favorite hushpuppies in all of Mississippi. It has just the right amount of corn and sweetness. Moist on the inside and perfectly fried. Made to order! We drive almost 30 minutes for their crawfish and hushpuppies and drive 30 minutes back home. It's still piping hot 30 minutes later. They're definitely worth the drive. After I've had their crawfish, I haven't eaten crawfish anywhere else. read more

Been eating at Ellis Seafood for years - at the Ellis Avenue location. Then received word that they were opening shop in the old KFC on Meadowbrook Road a few months ago with an expanded menu. Now taking many trips to Houston - been feigning for some Asian/Cajun fare in Jackson. They are close - but not exact - but they do have some good seafood with American fare too. Prices are good, portions are good. No complaints from me. read more

This has to be the most unprofessional fast food facility I have ever visited in the capitol city. I placed my order and waited in the drive-thru for 15 minutes for a small order and asked for ranch. I was informed of the 50 cent upcharge and assured the cashier it wasn't an issue and it was okay to add it to my debit card. After paying for my food, the cashier came back to the window and tossed my food (slung) it in my car. I didn't think she meant any harm, just overwhelmed maybe, so I said, thank you. She then slammed the window in my face. As I check my bag, I notice that the ranch that I had paid 50 cent for was not in the bag. I called the store because I was in traffic and couldn't return: in hopes that next visit I wouldn't be charged and could use the credit for next visit. I called and asked to speak to the manager and I was told that she was busy (very rudely), I asked for her name and the employee said she could not disclose that information (very rudely). I then said thank you and ended the call. My shrimp fried rice was cold, the customer service was God-awful, and I couldn't even speak to a manager. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS AS THIS IS NOT MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. The money wasn't the issue. The food not being fresh after a 15 minute wait was not the issue. Meh. I said months ago I was never going back, since they never ever get my orders right and shorted me on my lb of crab legs. But Jr Foodie wanted crawfish and fried shrimp last night after an awesome final soccer game, and he's all about local too, so here we are. Service: 2 Took a good 20min+ to get our order with only 2 cars (and small orders) ahead of us. And it wouldn't be a visit to Ellis if they didn't leave something out of the order (Jr's drink this time). There is always something missing from my order. Food: 3 2lbs crawfish 2pc fish + 6 shrimp Popcorn shrimp combo Crawfish were juicy and well-seasoned, but flavor wasn't as clean as it could be. Good price at least at $4.99. That heavy cornmeal batter on *everything* kills me, though. Atmosphere: 20min+ in the drive-thru lol Will I return? I'm sure I will. I will just stick to the popcorn shrimp from now on! I just started coming to this location. I had never been inside before, but I went in and the lady who was at the register just walked up to the register just staring. No greeting at all and had a look on her face as of I was bothering her. I never saw this person a day in my life before. She's a black female with glasses. She has her hair pulled all the way back in a small ball. She needs to go the the store and buy a personality. This seems to be more evident in the city of Jackson because this isn't the 1980s anymore. This is a direct reflection of the management. I started out eating at the Ellis Seafood location in Ellis Ave back in June 1988. The food is great, but when you have unprofessional personnel who seems like they don't want to be there, it just ruins the experience. The owners probably don't care for as long as the money is coming in. I enjoyed the food for over 3 decades, but after what took place yesterday, I will never return to Ellis Seafood. Employees think the customer is there for them, when it is the other way around. Common professional courtesy goes a long way. read more

I have since gone back and some things have changed. Customer service has improved by hiring another girl who is really pleasant and I've ordered the Cajun crab legs and shrimp which are super tasty and crab tastes fresh. Will continue to patronize. read more

If you want boiled shrimp from an Ellis location in Jackson this is the one to go to. They are very polite, service is quick, and the food is excellent. Crawfish boil was highly excellent. Plan on getting messy if you eat the crawfish. Popcorn shrimp was also yummy. All very authentic. Friendly staff. They let us bring in our beer from the truck, to enjoy with our meal. She said they are working on getting their alcohol license so they can serve beer, should happen this December. One complaint is that it would have been nice to have a knife available to open the crawfish, but they didn't have any. Highly recommend dining experience! read more

I did enjoy eating here until tonight. After a long day of work of course I decide that I would like some fast food food. So, I decided that I would get me a party wing combo from Ellis. As I was ordering, I asked the cashier if I could get shrimp fried rice as my side. She replied "no." So, instead of the combo that I initially wanted I decided to opt for just 6 party wings and a side of shrimp fried rice. When the cashier repeated my order she asked "what kind of drink?" I confirmed that I didn't want the combo just a side of shrimp fried rice since she had stated that I could not get that with the combo. Drove to the window, paid for my food, drove literally the street before my home(all with my irritable 3 year old in the backseat) to realize my rice had no shrimp.! I returned to the restaurant and spoke with the lady at the window who said "that will be .85" I explained to her that I was under the impression that I had already paid for the shrimp fried rice.
