So, the minute we get off the plane in Jackson, MS and great all of the family and head into the main part of the city, we always make a stop for seafood. ALWAYS! If you've never been down south and enjoyed the down-home, put yo' foot in it, battered and deep fried cuisine, all I can say is...I'm sorry. OH MY GOD! I don't eat a lot of seafood in San Diego but it's like some sort of prerequisite just for being in the south. Cat fish that melts in your mouth. BBQ Shrimp that your mouth will beg you to keep stuffing in it. Cornbread, mashed potates, greens (which I don't eat), bbq beans, black eyed peas (the kind you eat), and don't even get me started on the desserts. Two words: Peach cobbler! After calling to place an order, I learned that they only accept drive thru. I was informed by an operator. Waited in line for 40 minutes and once I finally got to place my order, I was informed that they only accept cash. I waited an entire 40 minutes to find this out. After asking the guy behind me if I could CashApp him for cash I had to wait an additional 7 minutes before I someone returned back to the speaker. I would NEVER stop here again. I love Ellis Seafood. I used to stop on a weekly basis but I had to slow down. My favorite is the 40-50 shrimp with 1 fish and the catfish is fried to perfection. Sauce is good and I always get a sweet tea. The sweet tea is so bomb! They also have little hood favorites that are available like kool aid pickles or a those little frozen sweet drinks! read more

Johnny is the best guy around. This business is his dream and he is very passionate about his service and food. The food is great and super cheap and you get SO much. I started out with the jumbo snackers and they were really actually jumbo and super tasty. The fried catfish fillet batter is marinated really well and comes out super crispy and fresh (also comes with fries). Great service, great food, great price, and great portion. Because of covid and new mandates about indoor dining, choices were limited. But we found this gem on our way out of town. My mother just happened to see the building from down the street and saw there were several cars in line and said let's try that. Between the 3 of us, we ordered a shrimp po boy, a shrimp basket, a trout basket, corn nuggets, spring rolls, sweet tea, and grape slushie. $25 even. Her trout was perfectly fried, and 2 huge pieces. My son said those were the best hush puppies and spring rolls he ever had, and swore not to tell his grandfather they were better than his. My po boy had so many shrimp on it, I ate some in the car, then half the po boy, then the other half when we got home, then had enough shrimp that had fallen off to make another sandwich. It was 3 meals out of one sandwich for $4.50. If you're in the Jackson area, check this place out. The team members were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the food is southern on point. I was so excited to find a reasonably priced seafood place in the area while visiting Jackson. But it turned out to be a disappointment. I guess you get what you pay for. I ordered the jumbo shrimp dinner. It came with 9 shrimp, fries, salad (iceberg lettuce was old) and hush puppies (missing from order). The worse thing on my plate was the fried shrimp. This was the premiere spot for popcorn shrimp when I was a kid. I grew up in the neighborhood a long time ago and we would get excited if we were out with friends and their parents decided to stop by Ellis Seafood for lunch. I remember thinking I didn't want to share and somehow my tiny child body could consume an entire order by myself. My memories are filled with warmth and delicious glee. I went here in order to have the boiled shrimp that I have enjoyed at their other locations. When I entered the whole place smelled bad. I went to the restroom before I went to order. The restroom smelled like they have never cleaned it and that everyone uses the floor instead of the toilet. I told the person at the counter about this and the response was "I don't go in there." I would not recommend this location, it is filthy, I can only imagine what the kitchen is like. They also only accept cash. read more
