the breakfast quality was so poor that we left our complimentary breakfast untouched and opted not to return the following day because the food was just so poorly thrown together. the eggs benedict with brisket looked like it was microwaved. the salad with my omlette was wilting. and the mushrooms inside my omlette was barely cooked. i wished we had better things to say but... we'd be really upset if we'd have to pay out of pocket for the food. given the restaurant is always dead when we visited it's pretty clear it's not the place to be in deep ellum. read more

We had free breakfast here from our hotel stay and it is such good quality. I ate the avo toast 2 days in a row, delicious! Also tried the cinnamon roll, ugh so good!! My partner had the eggs Benedict and pancakes. The pancakes were so fluffy and the Benedict doesn't come on English muffin, it comes on corn bread! So he liked that. We got snacks for our room and cocktails at the bar in this BEAUTIFUL restaurant. Jose was our bartending and server both afternoons of our staycation and he was very friendly and helpful. So, we ordered chicken wings and deviled eggs to SHARE in the room. However, I guess I had built up a little bit of a hunger since I devoured everything except one deviled egg half and one chicken wing! My husband said the next morning, that all he "got was an egg and a leg!" I kid you not. The sweet chili gochujang wings and deviled eggs were just that good. So we got wings the second night and I let hubby have all of them. Aren't I sweet? The cocktails are top notch. I cannot say enough about the ambiance in this restaurant. I think it would make an excellent date night dinner experience. It's a hotel restaurant and no worse or better than you expect. I ate four meals here in total 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners. The menu seemed small and pricey. Both breakfasts the service was good, friendly and prompt. The food was forgettable, not great (I had the avocado toast and eggs benedict). I also didn't think their drip coffee was great and just got an americano the next day. Dinner the first night was great! My waitress was awesome: prompt, attentive, and gave good recommendations. Both the burger and cocktail were great. Dinner the second night sucked. The waiter just did the basics (I actually had to just grab my cocktail from the bar because he forgot to pick it up / bring it to the table) when there may have been three other tables occupied in the restaurant. The food was nasty- I had the grilled cheese. It was very greasy and unappetizing. Overall, if staying in the hotel this isn't a bad stop for breakfast. The bar seemed great, the restaurant was expensive and below average for the price point. I'd recommend trying many of the resturants nearby instead of Elm & Good. read more

American food. "Upscale" is up for debate, but it's at least decent fare. I had the potato croquettes, which were a little soft and missing a little crunch. The croquettes themselves didn't have a lot of flavor, but the pancetta saved the day. Small serving, which was fine, because I ordered multiple courses. I also had the Brussels sprouts, which were well-prepared, but the flavors (orange, ricotta, candied almonds) didn't shine through. For my entree I had the pan seared filet medallions. I ordered medium, and they were probably a little over-cooked, but the flavors were better than many places I've been recently. And the parmesan fries were crispy and flavorful. At 36 dollars, this was a winner. My server, Jose, was personable and attentive. He checked on me often and made great recommendations. For cocktails, I had the Pittman Pear margarita (el jimador blanco tequila, st. George pear liqueur, all-spice agave, and lime) the Tillie, Take Your Time (Tito's vodka, Gifford pamplemouse liqueur, cranberry, lime), hot lips (altos blanco tequila, luxardo, orgeat, firewater bitters, and fresh beet juice), and Portia in Paris (domaine de canton ginger liqueur, lillet blanc, lemon, pomegranate, sparkling wine). All the drinks had a good flavor profile, were pretty refreshing, and not cloying or sweet. They did have a few sweeter and coffee based drinks that I wasn't interested in, for those with different taste palates. The menu here is pretty limited, which isn't a bad thing. Mains include roasted chicken, fried haddock, peppered salmon, and NY steak. They also have house-made pasta (which I love, but don't trust most places with). Their selections include: wild mushroom fettuccine, cacio e Pepe, lobster bucatini, and skillet Mac n cheese. They also have salads and several other starters. My server said they sopresata and fig bread is amazing. Deep Ellum has so many restaurants that I wouldn't call this one a destination dining spot. But this was a Monday, the ambiance here was nice, tables and decor were clean and stylish, and the service was good. We had breakfast and night caps at Elm & Good. As you can see from my breakfast menu, it's pretty straight forward. The staff was helpful and accommodating. For breakfast, we particularly liked the Granola Parfait, see my pic. The Greek Yogurt wasn't overly tart and quite creamy. The granola was ample so the ratio was just right with the yogurt. The granola had a nice chew to it since it wasn't too dry and brittle. It comes with bit of fruit: one morning it was ample and the next it was skimpy. We also had the steel cut oatmeal, see my oatmeal pic. The oatmeal was creamy, yet still retained the texture of the oats. As you can see in my pic, they added plenty of toppings that added texture and flavor. This also had maple flavoring included in the oatmeal. I also added 2 eggs over medium, see pic, - these were fine. On one evening we stopped by for a night cap. Our bartender was extremely knowledgeable about the rendition of the drinks he made for us. I walked in and immediately felt as though I was being judged, as if I didn't belong or couldn't afford to dine there. The initial interaction set the tone -- the bartender spoke to me with a condescending attitude simply because I wasn't aware of the restaurant's schedule, and even one of the hosts seemed unsure of it themselves. After a quick restroom break and being served water, it became very clear that the TikTok I had seen portraying this place as warm and welcoming was completely misleading. I had been genuinely excited to try this restaurant and had looked forward to it all week, but the experience -- although brief -- left a very negative impression. The atmosphere and the staff made it feel uninviting and pretentious. I ultimately chose to leave before even ordering anything because the overall vibe was uncomfortable. As noted by many others, Elm & Good is located in the Kimpton Pittman in downtown Dallas, and that is the main reason I gave it a try on several occasions. I love the hotel - it's fantastic and my go-to whenever I'm in Dallas. As part of my stays, I generally get breakfast comped with my room at Elm & Good, and the last time I was there, I decided to try them for dinner too. I want to give this place five stars, but there is so much inconsistency that it's hard to. The food is generally excellent. I've had everything from the croissant breakfast sandwich to the duck pasta and their various versions of potatoes (e.g., breakfast potatoes, frites, etc.), and each dish has been fantastic. I haven't had anything bad at all. But the service and wait time - yikes. It's a real toss-up. I've had the rudest and the nicest service, and I've experienced the fastest and the longest wait times in this restaurant at various points. If they can clean up all of those important efficiency things, this could be a really solid place. read more

I learned about this restaurant/bar due to my passport book. This was probably the best deal in the book. You got 2 full-size glasses of wine for $1.01. This was probably the best thing about my experience. I was considering between a 3 and a 4, but I chose a 3 because of the circumstances that impacted my visit. When I first got there with my friend, the hostess, which we learned later, was the manager asked if we wanted to sit at the bar. We asked if we could sit at a table and learned that they were not open for dinner yet. We walked into the bar, but the bar was packed. There were some seats at the back of the bar with a bench seating along the wall and 3 tables and individual chairs on the other side. We first close to a door that lead outside but then learned the door was broken and ever time the wind swung open we heard loud music. There were two ladies sitting next to us, and they told us to move to the other side because it was so loud. We took their advice. It was a little better but still took away from the ambiance. After we sat for quite a while and still had no one come to our table, we asked the ladies if we had to go to the bar and what was going on? We learned that there was a mimosa walk, and that was why the bartender was slammed. Why he was without help didn't make any sense. We went to the bar to get our drinks, the wine was good and we had fun people watching but I would only come back if I knew they were not going to have any other events going on. read more

My friend had the House burger and it was pretty weird. The "patty" is not a patty but really just chunks of meat that fell apart when you tried to eat it. A very pleasurable and relaxing evening it was here at Elm & Good. Their meticulous choices of furnishings, lighting, and, music set the mood. Loving every bite from Chef Graham Dodds' inviting farm-focused menu: starting off with perfectly cooked "East Texas Hush Puppies" dipped in an amazing Cajun remoulade sauce; next, the refreshing twist of "Lacinato Kale Caesar" with thinly shaved parmesan reggiano and crostini; as for my entree, outstanding "Lion's Mane", exotic mushrooms and saffron bomba rice; last but not least, mouth-watering freshly made-to-order "Churros" with tantalizing dips. The tuna tartare tasted large-batch bland but its starch accompaniment was warm, soft, tasty bread. The cobb salad was decorated with so much blue cheese I almost asked for a to go box to take some home to add to my weekly meal prep and the chicken was just a touch on the ready-to-expire side. The fries tripped me out: they were dark brown like they had been over done but tasted underdone and failed the crisp test. Like they were par-boiled and then fried before they had a chance to dry? Give its location and decor the restaurant gives good face. The place is certainly pretty with a huge bar that perhaps would garner high reviews as a meeting place for drinks, but for sure the food is not their best selling point. read more

Wow wow wow. I was a guest at the Kimpton and walked downstairs for breakfast. The restaurant looks rode pretty hard for being fairly new; my table and chair wobbled, and the whole joint needed a bit of sprucing. Usually, when I have a meh experience dining out, I find myself feeling empathetic toward the staff. But my server's behavior was surreal. He seemed perplexed and bordering on annoyed in each of our interactions. I didn't get his name but Forest Whitaker would play him in a movie, and that's the only compliment I've got for this gentleman. I ordered a latte, and what was delivered to me was nearly boiling hot. Espresso is brewed at a certain temperature, and milk is steamed at a certain temperature, and after transference into a mug, a latte should never be so hot that it would burn one's tongue and throat. Inspecting it closer, it looked like maybe it was a previously made latte that had been put into the microwave. The breakfast sandwich I ordered was inedible. I felt like I was on candid camera. It tasted like an ashtray. I kept removing different components and going in for another bite, trying to figure out what on the sandwich was so foul, but I quickly realized there was no single component that was not stomach turning. During our recent stay at the Pittman, we enjoyed dinner and drinks from Elm & Good, and I was blown away by both the food and service. Having gone so many years with a Christmas birthday, I knew that getting a meal can be complicated, especially while traveling, so weeks ahead, I contacted the hotel to ask if there would be a vegan option. I worked it all out with who I thought was the restaurant manager... who apparently did not mention any of this to the people actually working that night! But enter the bar manager (an amazing mixologist who I, unfortunately, did not get a name for)! He got everything worked out with the kitchen, who made us a special meal for my birthday that was off-menu and entirely vegan. It was incredible! We had an amazing mushroom paella, plus amazing ravioli and brussels sprouts appetizers. It was so good we wished we had more when it was over. It really meant a lot that they went above and beyond, despite the miscommunication, and they gave me a terrific birthday meal. Best yet- the bar manager personally delivered it to our hotel room door, allowing us to safely eat inside, although they did have great covid protocols in place. And I can't conclude without a shout out to the mixologist for his amazing cocktails! I had the Traveling Man, a twist on the Manhattan, which was incredible, and even better was the Creative Harmony, a mezcal miracle. I want one of those as I write this! read more

In a city that doesn't forget its roots, The Kimpton Pittman Hotel is stepping into the future with one foot in the past. Our building, designed by African-American architect William Sidney Pittman in 1916. I always wanted to go there and stay but it is eclectic having under a 140 rooms. I was going to an event the hotel was hosting. So having a chance to dine was right on the money. The space was quiet for about 10 minutes and then the bar area started buzzing. It got crowded with happy people having crafted cocktails. I think I confused the waitstaff when he offered me wine and my counteroffer was beer on draft. Sorry..not sorry . I'm a beer girl tried and true. It was a nice crisp lager as I waited for my friend. There was some beautiful lacing in the glass but I forgot to snap an after photo. I figured two appetizers and beer will keep full but not bogged down if I wanted to cut a rug/drop it low later. Deviled eggs are a weakness and when they add bacon you got me sold! I ordered that and bone marrow. That was a surprising because you don't normally see this at a bistro type of restaurant as I would depict having the range. It was filling and delicious. I would have loved another one. My friend had a big body burger. She seems very please and had a beer as well. Community IPA ..drink local my friends. Afterward we enjoyed Soul Rebels rock the stage with a New Orleans fusion with classic mashup's. It was so good. Elm and Good has parking for the restaurant and hotel. You have to be sure you slow down or you'll miss it like I did. I used the public parking and since it was a weekday it was affordable.
