One of our dogs chased our one-eyed runt of a black cat (who cannot see very well out of the one eye she has) up a tree at dusk. She made it about 60 feet up? There was no reaching her and she was stuck. No, she would not have been able to climb down on her own. We assessed the situation thoroughly. Do not judge or assume. Anyway, I digress. Our friend got in touch with this company and they were willing to come out with their climbing gear. That night, in a little under two hours, they scooped the little girl up in a pillow case and we got her safely inside. As soon as that happened, my anger dissipated, and I could think clearly again. These guys were down to earth, friendly, funny, and all around decent human beings. They actually cared. They didn't scoff on the phone like the others. No I will not name the others, because these guys are the only ones I want to give my energy and attention to. I will be calling them in the future to have a couple trees taken care of. Only Tysons Tree noted that pruning large limbs in the summer could negatively affect the health the trees. They worked with me to plan out pruning I needed ASAP and work that would best be done in winter. When they came for the pruning, the team was diligent and very safety focused. The work turned out great, I get a lot more sun light through the tree canopies and no longer worry about falling branches.

Not only did they do a great job they went the extra mile to do things that weren't in the proposal but made the yard look nicer. They installed a new drainage spot since our HOA grass coming ran over ours with a mower and destroyed it; they cut and edged the grass, laid additional grass seed, seasonal plants, and trimmed our rose bushes!! Talk about stellar service!! Ryan initially did our side yard a few years ago and installed a drainage system; we attempted to have him cone out last year and do work in our backyard but scheduling conflicts and missed appts (in his side) led us to another company... that was a mistake. The other company over promised and completely under delivered... now that Ryan's completes the second job we will never use another company; we will just wait... it's well worth it. There were also several issues with the work, particularly with the painting and French drain, that required additional attention. Another major concern was the amount of payment requested upfront, especially considering the delays and issues that followed. The lack of a clear warranty or meaningful follow-up support also added to the frustration when problems came up. I really wanted the project to go smoothly, and I believe Ryan has good intentions, but the execution and project management need significant improvement. Better communication, organization, realistic timelines, and stronger accountability for the completed work would make a big difference. I hope Ryan takes this feedback constructively and improves these areas, because the experience could have been much better.

She said that the owner was an "arborist" and would do a good job. I remembered the word "arbol" from high school Spanish...so I gave them a call. The owner, Dan, came out and explained what all of the trees in my backyard are; why some blossom and others do not; which should bear fruits or nuts; and which could use attention. The total cost of RTS cutting down two smaller trees that were dying, all of the branches that were hanging over the roof of our house, removing some poison ivy and other, miscellaneous trimming was less (I can't remember if it was a full 2/3 less, but it was definitely 50% less) than any of the other "tree cutting" companies that I had called. Almost anyone can cut your trees, however...Ross Tree Service can help maintain your property. That being said, the receptionist may be overwhelmed...so call back if necessary and don't take off of work until they are confirmed to be on the way to perform services for you. It's well worth the extra effort and I appreciate that they prioritize fallen trees over basic trimming services.

He then asked, was I paying or was the HOA paying? I suspect to possibly bargain for more money? After addressing these facts with the team lead he began to yell at me as I walked back inside my home. I notified the Ross office via email and phone of the issue and received no response. These actions are grossly unprofessional and place a liability on the company that I hope will be addressed internally. I will not recommend this company to my HOA.

First project was to remove a very large holly tree that was engulfing the side of our house, scratching the siding and damaging the shingles plus a grouping of arborvitae also too close to the house. The second time was to remove a large white pine that fell after a storm and landed on the fence. Not only did they reassure us it could wait a few days without it additionally damaging anything but after removing the pine they also repaired the fence and threw down grass seed and cover where the pine roots had been ground and removed. Just observe the frenzy that the annual blooming of the cherry blossom trees creates down in the Tidal Basin along the National Mall. However, I'm not so fond of trees especially when they are too close to a building. The residence I currently live in, has LOTS of older growth trees surrounding it. Last fall/winter 2021, the 50+ yr Hickory tree in my backyard snapped a branch, which resulted in some damage to my deck. Having to spend a few thousand bucks to repair the deck was not ideal, but what's worse is just performing a visual inspection I could tell that some of the other limbs looked like they could also potentially snap at any moment. Enter Nate Hardy and his company, CrownDown Tree Service. I noticed that he and his crew were doing work on a neighbor's property, so I asked him to come over to a cursory exam of my tree. Nate indicated that to get a true understanding of what was happening with my hickory, that he'd actually need to reschedule another visit and climb up for a more thorough inspection. Nate is what they refer to in the industry as a "climber." So on the appointed day, it was a bit surreal to watch as he scaled up nearly 75 feet to take pictures and cuttings of the nearby branches where the spar/limb had fallen. Unlike some "professionals" in the tree service industry, Mr. Hardy is an actual certified arborist who doesn't take a "cut and clear" first mentality. After he was done with his inspection, he provided an extremely detailed report with pictures and explanations of what was afflicting the tree. It was diseased and slowly rotting from the inside, and while I could take a "wait and see" attitude, it was recommended to remove the Hickory. Again, most tree services do not provide such a detailed report which also included an environmental assessment, of how removing the tree could impact the local ecology. Also, as of this writing, CrownDown provides FREE ESTIMATES - which is a rarity in the tree services industry. Nate and his team were very professional and always prioritized safety. The set up perimeters or "drop zones" where debris could potentially fall, and coordinated start and stop times within my work schedule. I was super impressed that after the Hickory was removed all the way down to the stump, one cannot even tell that a huge tree once stood in my yard. I used CrownDown again recently since as a result of all the rain the DC area received in March, one of the smaller trees along my fence line, started to uproot and was soon going to hit the side of my house. As usual, Nate provided expert analysis of the best courses of action and his pricing was MUCH MORE REASONABLE than other companies I've consulted with in the past. He and his one-person crew were finished with the removal in about 90 minutes. I highly recommend Nate and his team at CrownDown Tree Service for superior service and even better value.
