Light and airy! This German pancake was amazing with a light dusting of powdered sugar, no syrup necessary. The 'fresh' fruit was not fresh as it seemed to be on its very last minute but overall the dish was delicious. Eggs were cooked as ordered and that bacon was the most perfectly cooked crispy flavorful fat bacon I've eaten ... made me seriously consider coming back for lunch to have that on a BLT! After so many years, we still consider a tradition to come for some good Elmers brunch. Its a true local staple. Plenty of parking available. Accessible right off the freeway. Handicap friendly. The staff is always super friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. I have a few allergies and they always either accommodate or recommend dishes. Including vegan/vegetarian friendly (yup thats right) Their coffee is a sip of comfort and home. Its always hot and never bitter. Their food is vast way better than other diners in the area. The prices are also solid. I had their chorizo Benedict with avocado and fruit on the side. I thought I wouldn't finish it but I couldn't stop eating haha I was stuffed at the end. The ambience is very country. The fireplaces were on and I love that their music is never loud so it helps to have the conversation going. We had a wonderful breakfast experience at Elmer's Restaurant. We were driving through Tacoma in the rain on our way to look at some properties and were planning to stop at a nearby IHOP or Denny's, but then we spotted Elmer's and decided to give it a try--best decision. The menu was impressive. I had a German pancake with lingonberries (a mix similar to cranberry and raspberry), and it was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the potato pancakes, which were excellent. Ray had the avocado Benedict and said his eggs Benedict was great. The coffee was good and kept coming. The atmosphere was especially nice--fireplaces inside made it feel cozy and welcoming, which was perfect on a rainy day. Our waiter was amazing, very friendly, and attentive throughout our meal. If we lived nearby, this would definitely be a place we'd visit often. A great breakfast spot with comfort, quality food, and a warm atmosphere. ps love your coffee mugs read more

If you love breakfast like I do, this place is da bomb! They have your basics AND more! I went based on reviews and a desire to try something different. We arrived on a Saturday after 10am and there was a wait. The parking lot was full and the lobby was full, so it's known as a yummy spot! The wait time for 2 people was 5-10 minutes, no big deal. Hadn't had a German Pancake here in the USA, and it was glorious!! Reminded me of Germany! Service was great: personality + speed= 5-stars! The German Pancake came with choices, and I ordered the bacon and eggs. It was delicious!! Hubby ordered a bowl (can't recall the name) and he loved it! The ambience is low-key, similar to Dennys, but I loved the local-photography: Stadium High, Tacoma Dome, Mt.Rainier, and Tacoma Narrows Bridge to name a few. When we left, the lobby was still full! My friends and boyfriend flew in from Dallas for the Fourth of July weekend. Since they were all staying in Tacoma, they asked what breakfast/brunch spot I recommended that are nearby. I had only been to Elmer's one time beforehand, but still gave the suggestion. We had a group of eight and we were seated pretty quickly given how big our group was on a Saturday late morning. We were split into two booths across from each other with four people in each booth. This is what my boyfriend and I ended up ordering and sharing between the two of us: - German Pancake with Strawberry Combo - Blender Strawberry Lemonade - Dungeness Crab Benedict - Bacon, Ham, & Sauage Bowl We even shared the German Pancake with our other friends at our booth and the other one because it was so MASSIVE. I visited Elmer's Restaurant today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. From the moment we were seated, our waitress had a noticeably rude attitude. When it came time to order, the interaction became even more frustrating. My daughter asked for mac and cheese, and instead of kindly explaining why it wasn't available, the waitress responded with attitude and didn't clearly communicate the reason. We even said we were willing to pay for it regardless, but she still handled the situation poorly. What made things worse was how the situation was handled afterward. We asked to speak with a manager, hoping for some understanding or resolution, but instead, he immediately took the waitress's side without really listening to our concerns or addressing the issue. Toward the end, we felt so uncomfortable and unheard that we decided to leave and go eat somewhere else, which was very disappointing. Overall, the lack of basic customer service and unwillingness to resolve a simple concern made this a negative experience. I hope management takes feedback like this seriously and works on improving how customers are treated. read more

The service we received today was unprofessional and unacceptable. When I asked to speak with the manager, Bill, I did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously. Instead of addressing the issue appropriately, it felt like the situation was dismissed and the waiter was being defended. Based on this experience, we will not be returning. The best reason to eat at any Elmer's Restaurant is the food. (Consistently very good and reasonably priced.). Sometimes, though, it's the people. It was a slow Sunday night, so we had a delightful chat with Shelby, our waitress (along with a BLTA and coleslaw.) What a hoot! Sis has never tried an Elmer's before, so I figured this was the day. We drove all the way up from Olympia to Tukwila to try it since sis was interested in trying the dutch pancake, even though she didn't end up ordering it. I got a classic breakfast with a pancake and it was good. Not great, but just fine. I can't even remember what Sis got. It was that forgettable. The server was very helpful and friendly and we liked the branded mugs that they serve coffee in because they're a solid piece and almost feel folksy. First, we came here because our favorite German pancake place in Tukwila sold. Coming here to try the German pancake. ( A Dutch baby IS NOT a German ) It was as close as you could get to theirs. Happy about that. I would like to have more butter for it coming out from the kitchen and a bit more powdered sugar. The very hard butter trying to spread it on the German pancake was difficult. Maybe some whipped butter, so it will spread. The other thing I have always like on that type of pancake is a fruit syrup, maple syrup I don't feel taste as good on the style of pancake was disappointed to not have that as a choice. My son had chicken fried steak he said the breading was good and seasoned well, that the gravy had good flavor. The sausage and biscuits was good. The biscuits were soft and fluffy. Had fruit as well the banana didn't hold out of the peel. I understand it's not quite fruit season yet. The staff was all very friendly. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. We came in the back door didn't realize that. There's no signs outside that door telling you it's the bar entrance or an arrow directing you to the entrance if you happen to park on that side. This is a hidden gem here on our side of the highway! It was amazing to find this place because of them serving everything that my Pregnancy craved for breakfast lol.
