I was recommend this vet through a family member. So, we enrolled my puppy in their medical insurance. He got all his updated vaccinations needed for his obedience courses. The first day we went to thinking he had worms, right away we came in and they took samples. Turned out it was a false alarm. This time we went to get his neutered procedure. I couldn't be happier with my choice. The staff kept me updated throughout all times and they made the procedure very simple, informative and helpful. I didn't feel any pressure or stress with anything. I felt very comfortable, confident and appreciated. Everyone has their own experiences and all I can say is from the amounts of times I've been there, these two recent events I can say nothing but great things. Do your research before you commit in any location. What fits me and my furry friend may not be for everyone. I am sharing this because I do see many share negative opinions and I want to share with everyone my point of view and hopes that many furry friends can join the community. read more

I'm compelled to leave a review after my experience at this location today. To start, my family has five pets enrolled in Paw Plans with Elmhurst Animal Care Center. For just our three cats, we're paying over $270 per month, not including our dogs. We have invested a significant amount of money in this practice because we trusted our pets would receive timely and compassionate care. Over the weekend, my dachshund developed what was suspected to be a spinal disc injury, requiring an emergency veterinary visit. Because Elmhurst Animal Care Center recently changed its policy to weekday walk-ins only, we had no choice but to seek emergency care and pay a $1,500 emergency vet bill. Today, around 10:00 a.m., I came to the clinic for follow-up care. I explained my dog's condition to the front desk and was told there were three people ahead of me. To keep him as calm as possible and reduce the risk of further injury, I waited with him in the cat area, away from other dogs. After waiting an hour and a half, I checked back in and was told there were still two people ahead of me. By that point, every client who had been there before us had already left. There was only one other dog waiting, and several exam rooms appeared to be empty. I explained to the front desk employee (a Latino man wearing black glasses) that my dog had a possible spinal injury, was becoming increasingly overstimulated, and that I was concerned he would jump and worsen his condition. I simply asked whether we could wait in an exam room to help keep him calm. His response was that it was "not their policy." I understand that policies exist and that veterinary staff deal with emergencies every day. However, policies should never outweigh common sense or compassion when a patient has a suspected spinal injury. I wasn't asking to be seen ahead of anyone else--I was simply asking for a safer place to wait so my dog wouldn't risk further injury. As someone who pays hundreds of dollars every month for wellness plans and has entrusted five pets to this practice, I found the lack of empathy and flexibility incredibly disappointing. I expect a veterinary clinic to prioritize patient welfare, especially in situations where a simple accommodation could help prevent further harm. Today's experience left me feeling unsupported and questioning whether this is the level of care clients should expect. I will be considering taking my pets out of here after our contract runs out. My daughter was there yesterday with her 8 year old dog who has suffered chronic ear infections and as of late, he's been extra itchy. While exploring her financial options to get his treatment, she overheard the vet techs saying "the dog and the owner are both a disaster." Obviously she was there to seek treatment for the dog (who turns out had fleas.) In this economy not everyone can afford expensive or immediate care- our dog's issues are not life threatening- so to call anyone looking for help a "disaster" is demeaning, degrading and downright wrong. She shared what she heard with the vet when she came back in, only to be told that the vet would address it. She also overheard a conversation with the techs stating that another person brought in a old cat and that the owner should "just give it up already." Needless to say, that will be our final visit. Our dog Kona had a mass come up overnight. We were very concerned, took her to the vet the following day where Dr. Harris chose to aspirate the mass. Results came back somewhat inconclusive but it appeared as though it were a spindle cell tumor. We scheduled a biopsy and possible amputation of the toe. Prior to the biopsy the mass nearly disappeared and was not as concerning as it was at her prior appointment. I had many questions and concerns over the diagnosis and our decision to do the biopsy. I called the office multiple times and the staff was always very helpful and dealt will my phone calls and requests for medical info. I had A LOT of doubt that doing a biopsy was the right choice and literally within minutes before her sch'd biopsy, Dr. Harris called me and we both agreed that the biopsy at this point in time was not the best choice for Kona as her condition had significantly improved. I'm very grateful that Dr. Harris has such great integrity and honesty in his practice as a professional. He kept Kona's best interest in mind and did not opt to do a surgical procedure just for the sake of money and billing. We were 100% on the same page together over Kona's care and I appreciated all of the time he took taking/returning my calls to answer my questions to ensure we were making all of the right choices. I called there today because my 12 year old beagle/chihuahua is showing signs of a UTI and I was hoping someone could see her today but, I was abruptly told NO and our next opening is 7/1 and there isn't anything we can do. This is my first and primary choice for my pet care needs, the staff is super friendly there's a lot of room in the waiting area so pets and owners can be comfortable and spaced out from each other, the vets are friendly and make sure you fully understand what is happening and make sure the dogs and everyone involved is comfortable, I have an Australian shepherd poodle that is absolutely scared of everything to the point that he hides behind me, they are super patient and understanding and if theirs an emergency unlike other places Monday-Saturday they can see your pet before 2 pm their is a bit of a wait for those types of visits it it's worth the wait and worth the drive, this place is absolutely amazing and I'll be a forever customer along with my pups read more

This is my dog's Vet. Not only does he love coming here I do too. The costumer service is amazing. The ladies in the front are so nice and welcoming. I have never had an issue with them. They know how to take care of their costumers. Now their vets all of them are so nice. Amazing way of handling the animals. They handle them with care and love, and if the animal is scared they make sure to calm the pet down. My dog always gets treats for doing an amazing job. They did a great job with my dog's nail trim. He doesn't like when we try to do it. He screams and yells, but with the vet he's all calm and happy. One of the best Vet in Elmhurst. read more

I had very bad experiences here. The first was that they refused to take my dog when she was dying and she was a patient. And my other dog had mange, and they couldn't even tell me what she had. I was looking through photos in just general. Generally looking and saw the same skin condition that my dog had for me. A good month or two, you would think that qualified veterinarians would be able to determine when a dog has mange. read more

My cat had an acute illness. I couldn't get an appointment at my usual vet. It was important she was treated and couldn't wait weeks for an appointment. This vet center was recommended to me by my co-worker. They are a walk-in clinic, and you don't need an appointment. Entire staff is friendly and empathetic. The Vet explained everything and made sure we were on same page for treatment plan. I was truly impressed and they will be my new Vet. Even though I live in Forest Park, it is well worth the drive. We called to make an appointment to get our puppy spayed. They told us she needs to be assessed first and her records be reviewed so we came in. 1. Waiting time is ridiculous. We called in advance to know what we needed to avoid unnecessary wait. They said they don't make appointments, just come in. Cool. So we did. Waited for two hours. 2. Told them that my puppy got her first Lepto vaccine and will get her second dose on her next appointment. Still gave my puppy a Lepto vaccine and charged me for it!!!!!!!! Since it's "required before the spay" which I understand that's why we PAID our actual vet EXTRA to get that vaccine. 3. Gave them my puppy's records which shows her recent examinations. Everything is normal because we literally just went here to get our spay appointment. Still charged me for her physical examination and told me everything that the record I gave them showed!!!!!! I already know that information because I got her checked before coming here. 4. Customer service is trash. Communication within the group and to its customers is TRASH. I have had nothing but a negative experience here. Some of these vets don't seem to know what they are talking about(there are some good ones) but they have misdiagnosed my cat and have been rough and not gentle with him knowing he is very scared and gets stressed here. They cut his nails so much it was close to the veins in the nail it was horrible. They honestly seem like they just want your money and don't really care about your pet. I believe the medical care is pretty good and they have decent diagnostic capabilities. The customer service is god-awful. You can't get an appointment; they don't make 'em. So, you can EASILY spend HOURS sitting in your car, waiting. How very many people are able to adjust/accommodate that in their schedules, I have no idea. For basic things, like an ear infection, or even her annual checkup, we have switched to a different provider locally. Time and schedules with a family etc do not allow for sitting in a parking lot from 945-1250. It's ridiculous. Also, my dog has severe anxiety! They have her on Prozac for it. They "know" this is a thing. Their young and inexperienced nurse wants to stand around on the sidewalk, meanwhile my dog it attempting to bolt and getting visibly freaked the fuck out. There's a busy road nearby - just take her inside? It takes two people to push/pull her inside. Not good service. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place. After two vets misdiagnosed my 20-year old cat with the onset of kidney disease, it turned out he has bladder stones, causing his bladder to burst. We took him to the emergency vet, only to have to euthanize him. Then I couldn't end his health care plan without paying for all the previous bills upfront, and of course, no credit for the plan if I did so. Now that Covid has come into the picture, they do not take appointments any more, so you are blessed with waiting an indeterminable time, even if you are there when they first open. Now my dog is dying of cancer, I have the stupid health care plan for him, so when he passes away, I will get to pay on that for another 8 or 9 months. I truly do not believe this service is run well. I will be switching vets for my dog's cancer care (not the oncologist, but his regular care) because I do not feel that they provide the service that every living being should get when ill, whether human or animal. So I get to pay for Elmhurst Animal Care to treat him (when they will no longer be doing so) AND a different vet as well. Please, if you care for your pets, take them somewhere else! When it comes to our pets, there isn't much we wouldn't do to protect them, keep them safe, and see they get the best possible care. For us, this little guy is a new member of the family and it was love at first sight. Of course, his first check-up and shots were where our other dogs had always received their care, which was Elmhurst Animal Care, the place we trusted our beloved pets would receive the top-notch care they deserved. After bringing our new, vivacious, Westie pup in for his second round of shots, he had a terrible reaction. Afterwards, he was so lethargic that he had to be held up in the backyard just to urinate. In addition, he slept for a total of five days following the vaccinations. We'd never experienced anything even remotely close to this sort of response in the past and were so sick with worry, that over the course of this time period, we placed a total of four calls to them to discuss our deep concern. Each time, we were assured that this was a reaction that some pups did have and that he would be just fine. After approximately five days, our pup came out of his stupor. However, even a week later, he wasn't the same dog. His energy level was nowhere what it had once been prior to his vaccinations. The puppy who could effortlessly run a mile beforehand, now was unable to walk halfway down the street. There were times he took three hour long naps. He was no longer nipping like he had once done. At school, he couldn't learn to sit because he would no longer stand for enough time to be instructed to sit. Recognizing this as a dramatic change from the pup we brought home and having that instinctive sense that something was not right, we took him in. After explaining all of his symptoms and our concerns, he was examined by two veterinarians and a tech. Based on their exam, we were told that our dog was in fine health because he had gained approximately 3 oz. in the past three weeks, had no fever, and had no vomiting and/or diarrhea. Despite the deep sense that something just wasn't right, we chose to put our faith and trust in the opinions of the veterinarians at Elmhurst Animal Care and took our puppy back home. In the meantime, our other dog, a Welsh Terrier, developed what appeared to be an ear infection on a subsequent Saturday. Naturally, we brought her where we have always taken her, Elmhurst Animal Care. When we arrived, it was still during regular Saturday business hours. Despite the fact that we were bringing our dog for an illness visit and that she'd been their patient her entire life, the woman at the desk proceeded to push every available canine product on us before checking us in. This process took approximately 15 minutes and then we were directed to have a seat. After sitting for several minutes, we were advised that the doctor wouldn't see our dog because it they were now officially closed. It seemed ridiculous that they would go through the process of checking her in only to refuse to see her when she wasn't feeling well. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. Our new puppy continued to display the same symptoms as described above and just didn't seem to be improving. Due to the last two negative experiences with Elmhurst Animal Hospital, we chose to take the puppy for a second opinion another animal hospital a town over. Once the veterinarian came into the examination room, he sat on the floor with our pup and began to examine him. He asked us whether our puppy was behaving like other puppies we'd had experience with. We told him, "no." He then immediately agreed and told us that he felt there was something wrong with him just by looking at his behavior. He ordered blood work and the next day, we were told that our pup had a hepatic shunt. His blood work confirmed the vets's suspicions. Even if Elmhurst had diagnosed him sooner, he would still have the condition. However, he had a severe back up of toxins in his body as a result of the shunt and the delayed diagnosis could have caused him brain damage and we are grateful that this did not occur. That said, we will never bring our pets to Elmhurst Animal Hospital again. We simply feel that the quality they once had no longer exists. We certainly learned to trust our instinct when it comes to our pet's health and the quality of their care.i read more

I despise writing an unfavorable review as I have been a customer at this location for some time. I do appreciate that as an existing patient despite the shortages of staffing at vets, they were able to take us in same day. That being said, We brought our GSD for a procedure yesterday afternoon. Less than 24 hours later, he is dead. Died with me on the lawn across the street from our home. We were advised of the risks but were told we had the most qualified staffer to perform the procedure, Dr Harris. It was the same procedure that he had at an emergency vet previously in FL with very favorable results. After his procedure yesterday He was released less than 4 hours later, while I was certainly glad to get him home, I did notice that he was still breathing rapidly but hoped that was from the anesthesia wearing off. Additionally when released they left his IV in his arm under a bandage that required me to load him back into our truck and drive him at 8pm to get it removed. Not comfortable for a recovering patient. But apparently there must have been some complication from that procedure that made him go into cardiac arrest with me this morning. Yesterday/Today has been excruciating painful for our family, wondering if I should have brought him to another specialist more skilled in this procedure. Or maybe it was his time, only God knows. As an update when we brought his body for cremation yesterday, he had significant blood out of his mouth that leads us to believe something was punctured during the procedure. Again I have no autopsy on our beloved companion but this is unusual. Anyway, I truly respect the good that qualified Vets do for their patients. And we have been here in the past without any problems. This review is not to slam this practice. Unfortunately this was the worst outcome so I am sad and angry. I just started going to this vet with a puppy I adopted from Magnificent Mutts. Through this adoption agency, the first round of puppy shots is paid for. This is why i decided to go there. So far I've only been there for the 3 rounds of shots. Due to Covid, expect to wait at least 45 mins to be seen since they are not taking appts for non-surgical needs. Once you pull up, you'll check in with the front desk which is outside. Then, you'll head back to your car and wait for them to come get your pet. I've only spoke to the vet over the phone and I've gotten a different vet every time. This is not ideal, but every interaction as been pleasant and I haven't had any issues with my puppy. They do offer dog training classes and boarding, but I have not used these services. There is no bathroom available for the public. You will have to go to a local business for this. Be prepared to wait up to 2hrs for simple procedures. Every time I have gone to this place I have legit waited no less than 2+hrs. Even before COVID started I have taken my two dogs to this location, and because they don't take appointments you are forced to wait to be seen. Even for yearly shots I have waited up to 2hrs to be seen. The last time I have went here was 2 weeks ago, my dog was in need of surgery, she was not doing well and I had called them saying it was an emergency. When I had got there I was told that I would be seen quickly but no one came out and I ended up waiting over an hr for someone to come out, and then waited an additional hour to even hear back to what was going on. Then when I went to go pick her up from her surgery I had arrived at the time they had told me to come back, and had to wait over an hour to get her back from the vet, When i went to inquire on when I was going to get her back they kept telling me that she would be out shortly but still even after an hour of waiting they still didn't have her ready to be taken home. Then as I was waiting I got 2 phone calls from them asking if I was the owner for a different dog. I cant understand how that can happen, so I kindly asked if they can at least make sure that they have my number for my pet, and they put me on hold and they disconnected the call while I waited and Neve called me back to confirm. Lets not forget about their customer service when answering the phones, I had waited on the phone over 20 min on hold and then gave up because no one picked up my call, and then I decided to try again and call back, and was placed again on hold for another 5 min and they had told me that the wait to be seen by the vet would take at least 1 hour, but the vet leaves in 30 min so maybe I should try back another day. So again I waited almost 30 min to be told that I can't be seen to get my dogs stitches taken out. Why be open till 8pm if I can't see the vet? Not all of us have work schedules to be able to come earlier during the week. I understand that they don't take appointments so that they can be flexible for walk-in, but for those of us that don't have hours and hours to wait to be seen this place is not it. read more

Though we had some positive experiences in the past with this vet, overall I really feel they are an inferior clinic We initially started going here bc the shelter we adopted from provided a neuter coupon. Bc the vet worked closely with the shelter, we continued out of loyalty. Recently, we changed vets, and our experience was so superior, I feel it necessary to write how poor Elmhurst was all those years, without me knowing, as I had nothing to compare it to. - at elmhurst, there was ALWAYS an extended wait, even when I had an appointment - at elmhurst they made me put my frightened animal up on the exam table, my new vet sat on the floor with my scared guy! - my new vet had to call Elmhurst to check the records they sent over bc they were entered incorrectly for the flu vaccine. Good thing they checked or we would have unnecessarily started a new round of shots - at Elmhurst we had to wait forever to check out in a stressful situation with a lot of other pets - my new vet let us stay in the exam room until it was less chaotic at the check out counter to avoid any conflicts. I also found out that Elmhurst is not Board certified. They are a busy vet, but it's like a machine there. If you want personalized care, I recommend you go elsewhere. read more

I've been taking my black lab here for a few years now. Unfortunately I brought him in with an ear hematoma that needed to be drained. It was drained but I was notified it wasn't completely drained. I wasn't told the fact that it wasn't completely drained would lead to it swelling up again. The ear swelled up again within a few days and I called to see if I can get it drained again without having to pay the $70 visit and $150 draining fee. I was told I'd have to pay full price for the service and visit again. Very annoyed and disappointed the hospital refused to make this right. read more

Update: Dr Feah contacted me, apologized for my negative experience and agreed to take care of the 2nd consultation fee. My experience with her during the initial consultation had been positive and it was just during the follow-up appt that I lost confidence in this facility. I'm updating my review to 4 stars reflecting her service level in addition to all my prior experiences. Minus 1 star for the way my last visit and phone call were handled by the other staff members. Been taking my yorkie poo here since she was a baby. She's 13 now. They've always been great for anything routine. Now I needed her to have a senior check-up for her "lumps and bumps." Saw Dr Feah Oct 30th. She gave her a once over, talked about her teeth looking great, high energy, start of cataracts, loss of hearing etc, but no mention of any issues with the "lumps and bumps." Fast forward to Dec 16th (1-1/2 months later). A friend of mine who knows a lot about lumps and bumps on pets feels the one on her rib cage and is concerned. She tells me I should have it looked at. I say I was just at the vet and she hadn't mentioned concern. The worry grows so I do some research online and learn the hard, immobile bump on her rib cage should indeed be taken seriously. I call Elmhurst Animal Care and ask them if Dr Feah mentioned anything about it in my file. The vet on duty says it's location was noted, no further info. I mention my concerns and my research and ask if he thinks I should have a sample of it taken to make sure it is benign. He says without having seen it, he isn't certain, but I could bring her back in if I wanted them to take a needle aspiration. I asked about the cost and he said $158 + $56 for the consultation. I asked if they could wave the $56 fee to help me out since I was just there and would have had the aspiration done then if Dr Feah had mentioned concern about this lump. He refused saying it had been a "few months," which is too long. (1-1/2 months is not "a few.") I bring Bella in same day and Dr Newman sees us. She seems very defensive when I relay my concerns and explain that I was just there and find it odd Dr Feah didn't discuss this lump with me given she had noted it. Based on what I'd learned, the nature of the lump should have at least warranted a conversation. When I ask her professional opinion about the lump she ignored the question and instead reminded me of the cost for the aspiration and asked if I wanted it done. It was very curt and made me feel alone in my concern about my pet's health. I've now paid for two "consultations" at $56 each where I was not given any professional opinion or recommendation about this lump. What am I paying for? I still believe they should have waived the $56, but didn't even ask Dr Newman about it given her unprofessional demeanor with me from the moment I met her. I've been coming to this office for years happy with the service, but those were just routine visits for checkups and shots. This was the first time I really needed their professional help with lumps that could be serious and cancerous and I wasn't even given one bit of information about what they thought. If the results do show this lump is more than just a fatty tumor, I am not sure I'd even be comfortable having the next steps done at this facility given the lack of compassion and support I've experienced with them so far. Do your animal a favor and never go to this clinic. The doctors are extremely aloof and talk down to their clients. They misdiagnosed a pretty serious issue with our rescue puppy (2 visits and phone consult) and my wife did a better job diagnosing what was wrong on google. We had a wonderful appointment with Dr. Rachel Mozwecz! She listened to our situation fully and was extremely knowledgeable about how we should proceed. Overall the entire staff (front desk, techs) is extremely kind and patient with you! They are also very punctual which is usually uncommon with most vet practices. We did not wait long at all and we're given Dr. Mozwecz's full attention not feeling rushed or unheard. I would recommend this practice to anyone! read more

I have taken my 2 girls, Luna & Lucy here since they were 8 weeks old. I trust the physicians and staff at Elmhurst animal care and would not consider going elsewhere. They treat my pets with respect, dignity, and care, whenever I bring them there for care or boarding. I saw a review on here about how this office performed unnecessary and harmful work on pets and fully agree with that experience in my review. I'm from out of town and brought my dog here for an ear infection. The vet and service staff were nice and knowledgeable. However, they recommended unnecessary diagnostic and treatment work costing way more than needed, causing potentially irreversible damage to my dog if I hadn't intervened. The vet suggested a swab test and diagnosed a generic bacterial infection(cocci). I expect that the the same treatment would have been prescribed with or without the swab test as it's a broad spectrum antibiotic. I called back with a concern about the medication causing deafness--warning it can and does!! which I was not told. The vet suggested anesthetizing my dog to look at his tympanic membranes, pedantically explaining what it is. This is when I realized they were suggesting unnecessary and harmful diagnostics/treatment to make extra cash incorporating basic anatomical / medical terminology likely resulting in cowing customers with their 'extensive' expertise. He also suggested I pick up a different medication made in-office for the ear infection. (While it is legal for vets to make drug combinations in office, there are restrictions. Namely, it can only be done when there are no other drugs on the market to treat a disease. I have difficulty believing there is only one known treatment for ear infections, therefore this appears to be illegal infringement on others' intellectual property.) I asked him the ingredients which he listed, again antibiotics. I expressed concern about one antibiotic that can cause C. diff when taken orally. He later recited the in-house ingredients and left that antibiotic off the list. Now, my spidey senses were tingling! I looked up another medication that I received during the office visit, learned it was doggie ibuprofen and realized I could purchase a full bottle for a fraction of the price that I paid for just 2. I expect more from a veterinary office around here. A truly disappointing experience of people in roles designed to help others instead behaving in a manner of abusing their power. I hope these vets re-evaluate their priorities. read more

They might be ok for dogs, but would NEVER recommend them for cats. First of all, they do not have a wait list online, or take appointments, so you have to physically go there to get "in line". I had an emergency for my first cat, and waited 3, yes, I said THREE hours to be seen, and its winter, so I was in my car, and could not sit there with it running. I was freezing, my cat was freezing. To be prescribed antibiotics that I did NOT need, and they told me there was nothing they could do. I against all thought, brought my second cat here two months later for another emergency, this time waiting 2 hours. To be told, that he was clearly ill, but of course they had no idea with what. After a blood test, they said his kidneys, but unclear on kidney disease, or a UTI. After urinalysis on Friday, and we were to get the results Saturday afternoon, NOTHING. No call, no followup, nothing. My mom and I called repeatedly. Finally get someone on Monday, to be told the sample was contaminated and they need ANOTHER. Thank you for calling us with this information. Meanwhile my sweet baby passed waiting on these results. Now I have NO ANSWERS as to what happened to him, and no recourse. Not even a refund. NO URGENCY at this place, and I will never go here again. RIP my sweet angel. read more

When we first were looking for a vet for our puppy, we tried another place in the area and were very disappointed by the lack of professionalism and the vet not doing a proper exam. Luckily, we found EACC!! The doctors are very professional and attentive. They complete very thorough exams and make sure to check for all of the essentials. We purchased the puppy plus plan and are very thankful for the program because we have taken our puppy here multiple times. Every time we have visited, we have received the best possible care and we are very happy with this hospital! We highly recommend it for your pet! read more

We took our Samson here to get checked out since he wasn't feeling very well for over a week. We went to another vet the previous week but they just brushed off his symptoms and blamed the dog saying he probably ate something he wasn't supposed to. We trusted that vet... and he got worse. Anyway it ended up being his gallbladder. The staff took very good care of us and helped as much as they could. Unfortunately our Samson didn't make it and passed away 2 weeks later. We called a few times after our first visit with questions and concerns and they always called back with answers. That means a lot to people who are suffering and fighting to save their dog. It's a little pricey but I would recommend this place. If we ever decide to get another dog we will be back. read more
