nothing like a small order being totally messed up! not one thing was correct, cheeseburger missing the cheese, chili cheese fries missing the chil and cheese, Double cheeseburger came out as a regular cheeseburger with so much mustard you couldn't eat it. I've been twice and neither experience was good. Service was adequate not polite or personable at all. Food is decent but not worth the experience. My second lunch the table was dirty and no one cleaned it while at least 5 people ordered before us. So, I had to clean the table putting their serving baskets on their order counter. After cleaning up the mess I had to get paper towels from the restroom to wipe it down. They sure gave me a look when I thew the trash away. read more

My wife, 1 yr old, and I stopped in at Elmo's for a bite on our way to the Texas coast. It's a pretty standard Texas roadside burger shack with a few nice amenities and bits of personality. Upon arrival, the signage proclaims it to be the home of the Roughnecks (the local high school sports mascot) and the walls are decorated with vintage pop signs. Pictures of John Wayne, Elvis, and James Dean dominate, alongside some '70s stuff like Happy Days memorabilia and even a picture of Robert Redford. (?) The acoustic tile on the ceiling is painted green (??) and the final touch is a novelty plate bearing the visage of Elmo from Sesame Street. Ohhhh-kay. The food is pretty good -we stuck to the burgers & fries menu, so we didn't sample any of the Tex-Mex cuisine on offer, but we were gifted with free chips and salsa regardless. Order at the counter and then sit and enjoy a bit of spotty wi-fi (though even spotty wi-fi is a blessing when cell coverage is non-existent). We were fortunate to be seated near a group that appeared to be the cast of a particularly low-rent production of Steel Magnolias, but even they couldn't distract us from the mushroom burger, steak fingers, and tater tots that followed. Large drinks (and they are LARGE) washed it all down as our arteries cried plaintively. A good stop on a lonely road. read more

It's difficult to justly convey the quaint charm of this precious little down-home burger locale. That's why what I'm about to say next is gonna hurt so bad. I stopped by one sticky summer morning with a wagonful of malnourished boys. Our bronzed shoulders, salt-encrusted hair, and faintly clammy odor clearly indicated that we were tourists...no, outsiders. The subtle stares we received from the inhabitants of West Columbia were not unwarranted; we had, in fact, been returning from a weekend in Galveston (aka Paradise) where we engaged in landscape photography, puzzle assembly, and some light soul-searching. They failed to provide free chips & salsa to our table without us asking, they passive-aggressively put two onion rings on top of my BLT (what's THAT supposed to mean?), and they didn't even bother to spell avocado correctly. The food was anywhere from OK to good depending on how adventurous you are with menus. I played it cool with the BLT, and was rewarded with a safe quantity of mouth-watering bacon surrounded by lettuce and some other stuff. read more

Super friendly and helpful staff. Menu limited but the portions are big. Chips and salsa are provided even if you don't order Tex-mex.

Great variety on the menu. I used the drive through to order fajitas quesadillas. They were out of the beef fajita meat so I got the chicken. The cheese was, or had, American cheese which made for a bit runny but good. I would have preferred a cheddar jack, pepper jack combination but I enjoyed what was used. Small scoop of guacamole was good but lumpy (I use an old fashioned mashed potato masher for my homemade guacamole). Onion rings (I know - quesadillas and onion rings: what a combination) were great!!! Only gripe was no napkins or fork/spoon to-go kit. I was traveling for a couple hours, would have been nice to have a fork and some napkins. For those traveling, like I was - it took twenty five minutes to get my food at the drive through window. This is an old Dairy Queen with booths, so big people like me have a hard time finding a seat, hence the drive through order: more room in the front seat of my truck. I will return to try the burgers, and nachos, and fish/shrimp. Three stars. read more

We eat here on a regular basis. We only get the fish tacos though. Thats because they are amazing and I couldnt bring myself to try any other dish. My kids eat the fish and the grilled cheese sandwiches on occasion. read more

Service was horrible. Took 30 min to get food with only one other table waiting in restaurant. Food came out cold and was missing ingredients. When questioned where the guacamole was on the nacho's, we were told "oh, we are out." "What about the onions?" "Just forgot to put them on. Did you want them?" "Yes, please. May we get a hot order? These are cold." Waitress responds, "No, they aren't cold. They are fine." Good grief! Got a fresh order made with major attitude from server and manager who I over hear telling the other table her last day is Saturday. Have to give credit though to the young teen female server who was very polite whom they had run our reorder out to the table. Definitely will not return unless Elmo's sign says "under new management" read more

Small town comfort food that's a combination of southern cooking, burgers, and Tex-Mex. I had a pretty good bacon cheeseburger and fries, all obviously made to order. It's pretty standard food, but the pleasant surprise is the complimentary chips and salsa with every order. Like everything else, both the chips and salsa are fresh and homemade. Definitely worth a stop if you're going through West Columbia. read more

This place is dirty. My daughter is in the bathroom right now throwing up from eating a burger there yesterday with her friend. My husband and I went in there about a year ago. We ordered food, handed the lady our money and while waiting for change a roach ran up on my husbands arm! He flicked it off as fast as he could with the other hand. When it hit the floor it ran under a bench. There were quite a few other people in there that I know saw this happen but just sat or stood there! Like so what.. Oh my. We got our food. We both had taco salads to go at that point. Husband was like just eat it it will be fine... Thankfully we didn't get sick. I warned the kids not to go there. I guess things have not changed in a year. My poor daughter is wretching right now. Sigh. Sorry Elmo's but you need to clean it up. read more

Way over priced. Had a pay $17 for chicken fried steak dinner and a drink. It wasn't even that good. Service is pretty slow also. StArting to figure out restaurants in this area aren't that good haven't found a decent one yet. read more

It is a quiet small town type restaurant. The restaurant is clean. The staff is friendly.

I like it well enough. Not many good options in wc to start with but it hasn't disappointed me to much. Sometimes their service is lacking but oh well. If you want chips and they forgot, just remind them. BTW the vanilla sprite is pretty good. read more

I don't know why I keep ordering from Elmo's because 9 times out of 10, the order is wrong, food forgotten to be put in bag, cold fries, or fries that are limp not crisp and look undercooked. Spent $35.00 on food tonight and this time got fries that were limp, not crisp and they looked undercooked. The toast for the steak fingers and chicken strips was barely toasted, limp bread. Ordered cheese fries, they forgot them, had to drive around and got behind another car picking up food. And then I got fries with a cup of grated cheese, not even on top of fries. Now, cheese fries have been around forever, who gives you a cup of cheese for you to put on top of the fries that aren't even hot. Ordered tacos and no taco sauce, employee didn't even ask if we wanted taco sauce, and stupid me assumed they would put taco sauce in the bag. Never again. read more
