Elote offers excellent value in casual Mexican dining. The price is only slightly higher than places like Rosa's Cafe, Freebirds/Chipotle, etc. The quality and quantity, though, is higher. Not impressed. I was debating whether to give it two stars since the decor is cute and clean, but the food is not good. I ordered elotes especial and the cilantro lime rice because I really just wanted elotes, but I was hungry and it sounded like a good addition to my meal. The elotes (I got it in a cup, not on the cob), had literally no flavor. I had to add salt, pepper, Cholula, and lime juice from a whole lime to make it taste good. For being the namesake of the place, I was expecting a lot more. The cilantro lime rice; oh my gosh was it bad! First of all, there was just a sprinkling of cilantro (mostly stems and a few brown leaves). I actually took a piece of a leaf out and took a bite of it, and it had NO flavor. I don't know if it was just old (the leaves were brown) or what the case was, but I have never had cilantro that tasted like nothing! Weird! There was also no lime flavor at all. All I could taste was butter. There was also a weird chunk of something, along with a weird looking gran in the rice that did not belong there. Just gross. I ordered for 3 of my coworkers as well, and none of them were impressed with the food. I was so hopeful and wanted to love this place since the best Mexican food I've found around my work is Taco Cabana ( :( ), but I don't even think I would give this place a 2nd try. read more

Once we arrived at home we saw why. Minimal rice and beans, a shrimp taco with 4 tiny shrimp, a brisket taco that I tore off 1/2 the tortilla in order to get brisket in a bite. And a ground beef taco that had no flavor. Really nothing had much flavor except the salsa on the shrimp taco and I added jalapeños that I had on hand. I asked a second time what kind of sauce is this? I heard it scraped off the chicken. She replied it was a mushroom cream sauce.. isn't it yummy? I literally looked at her and was like, ah, NO! The owner (or manager?) was there and seemed to know we had never been there and handed us a menu and proceeded to explain every.single.item. From roasted I n house peppers and the best quality meats etc. Which shows me he was super proud of his establishment and made me more confident in my choice it it was hard to pay attention with my rambunctious two year old on the verge of escaping out the door. Unfortunately the one thing I really wanted I forgot to order in the hub bub of explanations and questions. Which hilariously is the same name as the restaurant. Wah wah. We ordered beef taquitos and a kids quesadilla. They have two option for rice (lime and cilantro or Mexican)and 3 for beans (black, Redford and charro). Beef taquitos honestly tastes as good as the frozen Deli Mex ones in the freezer section of the grocery store. Beans and rice were fine. Kids Quesadilla was good and came with refried beans and Mexican rice. Too much food for the both of us. Liked the take out boxes that were easily accessible. Chips and salsa are NOT free. Mild salsa is definitely mild, not spicy at all in my opinion. Green salsa I didn't try but was told it was quite spicy. Small side of guacamole was 99 cents. Over all, I wasn't impressed with the food but I definitely didn't have any of their signature stuff, I'd like to go again and try something else and get my friggin Elote I forgot to order. Kids meal comes with a special coin, which my son loved! It can be used to purchase a little toy (girl or boy option) near front of restaurant, cool idea for the little ones. Ok. I'm very picky when it comes to tacos and even more so when it comes to street tacos. Fresh Tortillas are a must and a good cilantro and onion mix with an outstanding protein is the standard. I was not disappointed in the Al Pastor street tacos here! Explosions of flavors hot and fresh tortillas....mmmmm! We got some great service from Anthony who explained the menu and made some suggestions for the rest of our group. Food came out pretty quickly. Wow. This place is as good as it gets. I just returned from my first visit and I can't wait to go back. I'm new to the area and love Mexican food so I'm ecstatic that my meal was as good as it was. I went in for lunch not really knowing what to expect but was very happy to see that it wasn't a massive menu like so many of the places I've visited before. Their menu is simple and explains all the ingredients in each dish. I had the combo fajitas and was extremely pleased with the taste. It came with a side of guacamole, spanish (or lime cilantro) rice, and beans. Everything was delicious. Next time I come, I'll likely get the chips and guac or chips and queso as an appetizer. Their taco's look amazing, I can't wait to try the Pork al Pastor tacos. Monday is 'Margarita Madness' where the Margaritas are half price. There's one pretty basic test of Mexican restaurants, that is a real way indicator of the quality of the entire menu... If the salsa is a flavorless red paste, it's highly likely the rest of the menu is going to be disappointing. Salsa is not hard to make (even in large quantities). Elote's salsa (at least when we were there) was a flavorless paste. After paying $2.99 for the chips and salsa, and having one equally disappointing margarita we did not bother going back to the walk up ordering window to order dinner. My husband and I went there for the first time tonight. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. They also have great weekday deals like kids eat free on Tuesdays. My husband got the street tacos, and I got the trio sampler plate. The enchilada, taco, and taquitos were all delicious. We both got the charro beans and they were excellent. This is by far the worst "tex-mex" food I have ever had the displeasure of eating (and also throwing up and pooping out 3 different times given that this establishment has given me food poisoning that number of times YEARS apart visiting. But this place seems to miraculously do that every time I roll up to it. Same with the shredded chicken? And queso.... and...beans... and everything? Absolutely mind boggling. Amazing. Amazingly disgusting I mean. Please. Please save your money and go to a decent tex mex place around here - they are literally a dime a dozen. We have been coming here since they have opened. It has definitely become one our favorite local hang outs! The owners are super nice and are almost always somewhere on site. The food continues to evolve and get even better! You must try the Black Bean dip. It is awesome! Also ask for the Carne Asada Taco plate! I don't believe its on the menu, but if is delicious! Oh and this isnt even INCLUDING the one time a few years back I had gotten food poisoning from them when my parents brought me there the first time, but now also including how I (AGAIN) became violently I'll simply a few hours after eating here this last Friday night. Vomitted and Pooped (liquid) out from 8:30pm to 5:00am thay morning and was bed ridden in pain all the next day as well. Tried this place for the first time tonight, me and my 3 kids. Was surprised it was kids eat free so that was positive. My girls got nachos which also cane with rice and beans. They both devoured them. I got a sour cream enchilada for the baby and she loved it. I got the pork street tacos. The meat was super flavorful and had a good bite.
