My son loves bagels so I had to try Eltana this morning on the way to his school. The oreo sized bagels were tasty but the prices are outrageous. I ordered the bagel with cream cheese and lox, which was $7.50. For that price I was expecting a healthy heaping of lox...I got three tiny pieces, barely enough to cover one half of the oreo sized bagels. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese for my son, total was $11.00. The bagels are tasty, albeit tiny. If cost is no concern, and you fill up easily, give it a whirl. read more

Sadly this place is not very impressive. We got a bagel and a pizza little thing. The flatbread cost more than the bagel but was really tasteless. I like the idea of a baked egg on flatbread but it just tasted like nothing. The bagel was okay kind of small. read more

Love this place. Everything bagel with honey almond cream cheese is THE BEST! Although they are on the smaller side (really who needs an enormous piece of bread), they are made daily and made deliciously! I finally branched out and tried the lentil soup and it is to die for. I would stay away from the egg dishes and other pastries, but the bagels and soup are a sure thing. My toddlers ask for "Eytana" every time we pass by. It is a family fave. read more

The bagels here are pretty nice and the ambiance seems pretty nice as well but honestly it seems kind of overpriced for what it is. I know cost of living in Seattle can be pretty high but come on. I'm ok with $1.50 for a hand made wood oven bagel. That being said, if I want a spread with the bagel, it's going to be $4.00? A breakfast sandwich is going to be $9? Come on. I tried the bagel with the tomato herb spread and quite frankly there was just way too much spread that came with the bagel. It was like to justify the price hike of the spread, they decided to put on as much as humanly possible, to the point where it wasn't really appetizing anymore. Picked up a bagel/cc/lox on Sunday with the kiddos (my 7yo daughter and 10mo nephew) before heading to the park near Stone & 35th. It was a beautiful day, and this place is very close to my sister's condo at 35th and Troll, so it was a great walk. Bagels themselves are good-- I got the Sesame, and so is the cream cheese-- Za'atar and Scallion, but I ended up throwing away a lot of the cream cheese (and unfortunately some lox too!) because they just put WAY too much! It was only afterwards that my sister told me that you have to tell them to go easy on the cream cheese... I may try again with that caveat in mind before giving up on this place completely. I didn't have any issues with rude staff or long wait times that other Yelp'ers have experienced but then again it was fairly early on a Sunday and not too busy. read more

Bagels aren't bad, but are small and not cheap. However, the workers tend to be completely underwater for no good reason. With two people working in store and no line they managed to lose my ticket (it was hanging up on the service line) and then serve about 5 people in front of me. I love their scallion cream cheese so while in the neighborhood I decided to stop by for lunch. Forgot that you have to pay $4+ for a tiny bagel because they have to cut it for you AND toast it. Versus $1.50 if you skip the over the top customer service. Anyway. I asked the cashier if she could be a little generous with the cream cheese and when I got my freshly toasted bagel, you could barely make out the bagel. It was heavily topped with about an inch of cream cheese. She laughed as she gave it to me and remarked "here's your bagel with a ton of cream cheese!" Omg. Being from the east coast, I love my bagels, and this place disappointed in several ways: the bagels are tiny (though the do put a good amount of cream cheese on them). I walked in, no one greeted me, there were 5 people behind the counter and they said not a word. Then once ordered I went and took a seat and they didn't let me know the bagel was done. I'm a Jew, and I doooooo love me a good bagel. However, that's not the reason I go to Eltana. I go for the Shakshuka soup and I am SO happy that there is an Eltana closer to me in Wallingford now. This soup comes with 2 poached eggs on top and a bagel to dip. It's a complete meal at a fair price. They have wifi and it's a decent place to sit and get some work done. Last time I was there my soup took a while and they apologized and gave me a gift card for next time. It was swell and I appreciated the thoughtfulness. read more

I always--ALWAYS--give a new place two tries. I do not think Eltana will get the 2nd. I've not waited that long for a bagel in...ever. And the wait is only the first in a small laundry list of complaints: 1: Long ass wait for a bagel. Like 30 minutes. 2: Watching the guy stare at the orders but not actually DO anything for 3 minutes. 3: Running out of bagels. OK, that happens. But don't let people keep ordering them. They ran out of "everything" bagels. It took 15 minutes for the staff to decide to tell the customers. Meanwhile, people kept ordering...you guessed it...everything bagels. 4: Total Chaos in the line to order. Two cash registers but only one was manned when we got there. That was fixed and then it went a little quicker. 5: When I pay good money for cream cheese, put some damn cream cheese on my bagel. Don't lightly scrape some across the top. It isn't butter, people. As we were leaving, a man came out with an angry look and said, "This had better be the best damn bagel in my life." "Mine, too," I said. The guy sitting outside said, "Oh, this is normal here. They are very slow." It, sadly, was NOT the best damn bagel in my life. It was cold. So cold that the cream cheese had softened the toasted part. So it was a soggy but still dry piece of round bread gristle. I also had the breakfast sandwich and that is my own fault. I never remember how much I dislike chicken sausage until it is too late. Can't believe I've never left a review here - I don't know what most people expect from bagels, but these are my absolute favorite. Wood-fired, not too fluffy or cakey. My favorite toppings right now are the za'atar and scallion cream cheese and the fig apricot compote (I usually do a third half with sweet), and my husband favors the red pepper and walnut and the harissa hummus. We love to go here early on a Saturday morning and do the weekly crossword they offer. So much love. read more

Stopped in this place for coffee and a quick bite with a friend. They are way overpriced for what you get. $8.75 for a bagel sandwich with meat, egg and cheese!? It should have been the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had but it was so small and bland. It had no flavor at all and after I finished it, in about 4 bites, I was still hungry! Oh, but the meat was organic so that is a plus? Maybe that's why it's so expensive, even so put some flavor in it. They didn't have a great selection of flavors either. The first time I went to Eltana, I got stood up by a cute boi and got my card declined but I gave this cute coffee shop another chance and I am glad that I did. Not only does the music make my want to bust in down at 8:00am, but their coffee is insane and their bagels make you want to order another. I couldn't tell it was wood fired or hand-rolled by taste, which would be the only reason why I would pay extra for such a treat. We decided to mitigate the carb loading with a frittata, I don't recommend this as it was clearly reheated and not very fresh or special, again given the price. I'm curious about the tuna salad, but not enough to go back. I came here because I am gluten free, and I was excited to finally find a place that served gluten free bagels. Producing a tough, dense bagel-like bark circle. I'm putting this out there: Eltana's makes my favorite bagels. Not in Seattle, anywhere. I like 'em better than the ones at H&H and Ess-A-Bagel. They are definitely better than other Montreal-style bagels (Siegel's) that I've tried, too. Yes, they're a little pricey, so grab a third half for a buck. Helps to keep in mind that bagels are more than just a ring of bread, although some places might try and serve you just that. Props for the friendly service. read more

I actually like these bagels very much, but the customer service in the Wallingford Eltana is "if-y." The staff has no idea who's next in line, so they'll take care of any random customer they want - there's no first come first serve; no one acknowledges that you're there or says anything like "I'll be with you in a minute;" there are two cash registers and even if you're the only customer in the place you have to figure out the one cash register you should be standing at - no one says "I can help you over here." My guess is that the staff is poorly trained and poorly paid, because that's what they're communicating. But if you're willing to put up with that, the bagels are actually quite good. read more

From what I've heard, the bagels are delicious. However, much of what I have read online about this plate touts the vegan and dairy-free spreads, making it seem like Eltana has options for a vegan bagel. They do not! When I asked, they explained that there are eggs in the bagel dough (which isn't true of most bagels). They don't advertise themselves as vegan, but I've seen so many reviews that frame the store as a great vegan option, so I wanted to make sure it's clear that the bagels are NOT vegan. I had a chicken shawarma sandwich on an everything bagel and that was so delicious. The star was the pickle on the side, it was different from any pickle I've ever had. I usually hate sweet pickles but this one was only just sweetish and I couldn't put my finger on the spices used. I'm obsessed! The folks with me both had bagels with hummus and they were fine, though the hummus was not remarkable. The coffee was good, too. Bagels here are ok. They are over priced, though, and the bagley with smoked salmon includes a scanelously small amount of salmon.

The bagels are small and hard. It's strange that they taste so stale since they're constantly baking them in their fancy wood fired oven. Their spreads are also not very good. They're better than from the bagel chain, but you can find better in any of the high end grocery stores. To top it off, it is also very expensive. It's too bad because the place is very nice and inviting. Wallingford should be able to support a good bagel shop but I'm unsure if they will survive once the novelty wears off. I've noticed that some people buy the baker's dozen and a tub of the spreads. This is certainly a much better deal than buying them individually. Parking is a bit hidden and in the back of the building. Once more businesses move this will become a bigger issue as there is no parking in front of the building and there is limited street parking. read more
