We arrived at 5:30 and we were told that it would be about an hour to wait, but were seated in about 25 minutes. Our waitress Sarah was the cutest, sweetest little thing. She was happy to answer all our questions and checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the Crawfish bread and it was AMAZING!!!! It was my favorite part of the whole night. Think of a bread that is perfectly soft, but also has a perfect light crunch on the outside and then cut it in half and top it with a yummy creamy cheesy crawfish dip and pop it in the oven. It was sooooo good! For the main course we tried their special of the day; Blackened Redfish Thibodaux. It is a blackened redfish topped with crispy fried onions and crawfish etouffee served over popcorn rice. My husband devoured the whole thing. He said it had an amazing flavor. We also ordered the 3 piece blackened catfish with fries and hush puppies. The fish had a perfect Cajun seasoning flavor along with the butter it was cooked in and is served with lemon to squeeze on top. It was really tasty as well. Don't skip out on the fries though, because they are just as good as everything else. We loved them too! We ended the night with their homemade pecan praline bread pudding and ice cream. While we did enjoy this dish, it's not the best one we have ever had. The sauce is a little thicker like gravy and we would have preferred more of a true caramel sauce. All in all we both agreed that it was worth the drive from the Memphis area and we will definitely be back!! Give them a try if you are ever near Hernando.

We waited awhile for a table, but we didn't mind as we had nothing else to do. The place is on the small side, but we didn't feel cramped. From the minute we walked in, everyone was friendly and the place feels welcoming. The food... to die for!!! The stuffed crawfish bread... delicious! Crab stuffed grouper... oh my, so good! Bacon wrapped beef tenderloin... yes, please! And to top it all off, the infamous bread pudding... do NOT pass it up!!! I cannot wait to go back.

The menu features a broad range of options, showcasing both classic and innovative dishes made from fresh ingredients. Each dish(catfish plate, chicken Alfredo, wing plate, boudin eggs rolls & that velvet punch) we chose was carefully prepared and beautifully presented, highlighting the attention to detail. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, contributing to a welcoming environment. Overall, The Velvet Ditch provides excellent value for money, making it a highly recommended spot for those looking to enjoy a memorable meal.

We came in to taste the local flair while on an Ole Miss college tour. The wait was lengthy however you could still stand at the bar and have a drink while you waited. We ordered a round of beers and checked out the place and the people. The bartenders were very nice, a lot of southern hospitality in this town. We were finally seated and ordered a seafood platter and a few orders of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. Shrimp that tasted amazing and sausage with great flavor. Rice cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The seafood platter in my opinion, not worth the money. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. Coming from vegas the bar is set high on dining out as we have the best of the best in our city when it comes to places to eat. While this was a fun place to hang, it's expensive for a college town. The ahi tuna nachos at this place are absolutely amazing and a must try. Best thing I ate there. A ton of Ahi and a huge portion. There was more ahi than chips. Clean place, fair service at the tables, waitress delivered 4 entrees and saint bring the 11 year olds dinner. He sat for 15 minutes and I had to hunt her down to ask where the kids food was. Serve everyone at the same time, it's rude not to. This was a big annoyance for me as the child sits with no food while everyone else is eating for 15-20 minutes.

Upon arrival, we were seated immediately in a booth. The restaurant has a fun, vibrant atmosphere with colorful décor throughout, plenty of TVs showing sports, and music playing in the background. It was lively without being overwhelming. For drinks, we ordered the Bandaritas, and they were very good--strong, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. They did melt fairly quickly, but the taste and strength made up for it. We ordered from the lunch menu and had the taco salad and the chicken with cheese. Both dishes were enjoyable and offered a good portion for lunch. Service was good overall. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, although we did notice some staff members spending quite a bit of time on their personal phones. It wasn't enough to negatively impact our experience, but it was noticeable. One thing that stood out was the size of the menu--there are so many options to choose from that it's impossible to try everything in one visit. We'll definitely be back to explore more of what they have to offer. Overall, a solid experience with good food, strong drinks, and a fun atmosphere. Looking forward to returning!

The bar itself is intimate with about 8 seats, so get there early if you want one. From the outside, the place looks like a literal house, but once you step inside it's a whole vibe: low lighting, great music, and nonstop food and drinks flowing. The bartenders were amazing--friendly, attentive, and clearly know what they're doing. We ordered wings, fries, Brussels sprouts, and spring rolls, plus a spicy margarita and French 75s. Every single thing hit. The food came out quick, fresh, and piping hot, and the drinks were perfectly balanced. By the time we left around 7 PM, the place was completely packed. This spot fills up fast for a reason. Can't wait to come back and work our way through more of the menu. Highly recommend--this is a must-visit.

They have a beautiful restaurant side as well as a bar side which often has great DJs and a happy hour. The happy hour menu had some great options and I thought the prices were more than reasonable. I tried their wings, which, if you like buffalo wings, you will love. They also have great fries if you like to get a little something to share. Their spicy margarita is actually spicy AND strong, so that's my drink recommendation! As well as trying the outdoor bar, I also went into the restaurant side to sit and try more food. I do think the prices for food are a little high, but you can tell that the dishes are fresh and high-quality (I believe they get their noodles from Good Fortune downtown). For example, this noodle dish was $18 and it was just filling enough. I will go back to try more things because the food and drinks were great quality, and the ambiance exudes a funky New Orleans bar. Just be ready to drop some $!

I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!
