It was all so incredibly delicious!! We couldn't help but try more than our fill of the menu. We ordered the potato rosette, avocado tostada and beef tartar to start. The flavor combinations with the tartar and mustard seed were out of this world. And we loved the play on the mango yolk in the tuna. For the main course we ordered the Thor cut Rib eye accompanied by the corn cream brûlée and the mushrooms. One of the best dinners ever. Norma and the staff were all so nice too. Incredible food and more incredible service. We tried a few different items but the Avocado Tostada was the perfect starter. Our son had the Waygu burger and finished it in 3 minutes. He said it was the best burger of his life. I had the 30 ounce Thor's Hammer Cut ribeye...watching the steaks cooked over a wood fire from the patio made enjoying my steak more memorable. Food tasted like the meat was frozen then microwaved & then cooked. Drink glasses weren't filled unless we asked & no ice.. server was barely around. Didn't even get to ask for a second alcoholic drink. We were celebrating my birthday & no acknowledgement there.. terrible service. Dull experience. I don't recommend this place. This restaurant has a great front. I also have a gluten allergy which I told server at the beginning & she didn't even put on the ticket gluten allergy. I ended up going home to sick. Best burger ever! This is coming from an expert burger + fry connoisseur. The dry aged beef is so bomb and the French Fries go through a 3 day process as Richard Blais explained to me tableside. They are soooo good. Blais is such a nice guy, he was happily greeting each guest, making everyone feel so welcome. In addition we tried the rib eye which was cooked to perfection on their outdoor woodfire grill. The snack bar items are not to be missed, get the pimento cheese sandwich, it's the cutest, I could probably eat 100. We also had the caesar salad which is not your average caesar, it even came with a chilled fork. And yes we had dessert...the chocolate mousse has chocolate pop rocks in it, it was divine. I am ordering chocolate pop rocks on everything from now on. Don't forget to order the smoking ember cocktail it won't disappoint. What a wonderful experience. Went in for lunch for my birthday and mother's day and was so impressed with Ember and Rye. I love the classic decor with a sort of golden Era American golf theme. Great music and great views of the lagoon from the patio as well. Out server Norma was amazing. Her suggestions were spot on and the small plates were all delicious. I hope to come back to try a main course when I have a bigger appetite. The small plates were fantastic because there were so many flavors we were able to experience. The pork belly and the scotch egg were rich and savory and perfectly plated and executed while the beet and goat cheese salad was refreshing and delicate with delicious fresh dill to brighten things up. The French dip sandwich is great and we split that and the Carrot cake for dessert which was the best I'd ever had. A unique lighter take on a usually dense and heavy dessert. And to top it off Chef Blais was actually on site and checked in on us. Very honored to meet someone who's done so much for the culinary progress in my home town. He was humble and gracious and after eating so much I was again reminded that he is also a master of his craft. Thank you Norma and Chef Blais. Food is good but pricing seems random. If you are planning to just get a nice beet salad for lunch , I hope you are also on diet. Beet salad for $16 barely had enough ingredients to cover the palm of my hand. Yet, the excellent BBQ pork sandwich for $19 was well worth every penny. Beautiful restaurant situated right off the Aviara county club. This is a good option of you are doing a business dinner or just a nice night out. We stared with a few bourbons from there extensive bar. As appetizers we ordered the ember croissant, the hot scotch egg, oysters & pearls the hamachi crudo. For the entree we ordered the the king cut ribeye which is for multiple people and was pretty darn good! As sides we had the sherry glazed mushrooms, crispy onion blossom. We really enjoyed all the food we ordered. For desserts we had the blums coffee cake, lemon meringue tart and the trio gelato. Overall ember is a very solid place to have dinner anytime. The only thing that kept it from 5/5 stars is even for this beautiful area of Carlsbad it's a bit overpriced even for a high end restaurant. The wine priced (we ordered 2 bottles) and some of the food prices are very high. But overall a nice experience. read more

Dinner started off really great. Garlic croissants delicious. Crab Avocado and Oyster with Pearls very innovative. Had really high hopes for the aged steak. But it was gamy and sour and chewy. Manager said that was normal for 14 day aged steak which I cannot accept. I've had delicious aged steak that melts in your mouth at 28 days. And this was not it. They did take it back and the Lobster Bucatini I switched to was delicious. If not for the steak I would give 5 stars. Service and ambience was great. read more

We stopped by this afternoon with two little ones and were very pleased with the service. Fancy restaurants usually aren't very kids friendly. We liked how there's a kids menu and booster seats available. The staff were extremely friendly and we didn't feel out of place with the kids. The portions were surprisingly big. For two adults and two kids, we ordered one snack, steak, one kids meal and two desserts and were pretty stuffed!! Overall, I really enjoyed Ember & Rye. I came here for Mother's Day and I was extremely pleased with the service that I've received as well as with the food. I've been able to try several things from the menu: 16 oz ribeye, chopped salad, Dungeness crab bucantini, triple cooked fries with queso, with the whipped bearnaise sauce on the side. The highlight of the day was the bucatini to be honest. The pasta was cooked absolutely perfectly with plenty of crab in the dish (the online menu is actually lobster bucatini but I'm guessing due to availability, they replaced it with crab). I was kind of bummed out that spot prawns weren't available that day, but I was glad I was able to try out the pasta instead. The chopped salad was also good, but I wish that the pea shoots were chopped a little smaller because it kept "stabbing" my face because the pieces were a lot longer than the rest of the elements in the salad and I ended up getting the dressing on my nose and on my cheeks haha. But otherwise, it was a pretty well made salad. I enjoyed the pickled onions that was in the salad. The fries were kind of sad for me because most of the fries were actually soggy, despite being triple cooked. Now, I know I added queso, but still inside was soggy and the fries that didn't have queso on them were also sad as well. The fries weren't cheap either so that was a little meh. The steak was pretty good. Very juicy and perfectly cooked, but, for some reason, I was a little underwhelmed because maybe it was a little too thin? I'm used to seeing ribeyes being a little bit thicker, but that's my personal preference too I guess. The whipped bearnaise, I could do without. It just tasted like mayo to me. If I could give half stars on Yelp, I would. Food was 4 stars and ambience and service was 5. I would average this place between 4-4.5 stars. Thank you for the great experience! read more

We got to have dinner on the 2nd day of opening over looking the 18th hole. It was perfect. Our bread service was a delicious garlic croissant with the perfect hint of sea salt. The starters we ordered were the Spicy cucumbers, Beer and Vodka battered onion rings (never had a better onion ring) they were crispy while not greasy, Oysters and Pearls that were so refreshing that I could've eaten a dozen easily, salmon bialy that was scrumptious but also delicate. I ordered the strip steak and my husband ordered the bbq pork ribs. Both were so flavorful and juicy. There was a minor mishap with the ribs but the staff made it right and brought us the potato rosettes that we plan to ordered next time, they were light and yummy. For sides we had the sherry glazed mushrooms and the baked potato, both of which did not disappoint. The highlight of our meal were out desserts, a carrot cake sandwich with coconut cream "mayo" and strawberry jello with smoked creme fraiche. Trust me when I tell you, these two were the best desserts I've ever had, especially since I don't like coconut. The Jello was INSANE and I can't wait to go back to have it again. read more

Went to have a nice dinner at Ember &Rye. Right when you walk thru the door they greet you. Had a nice table overlooking the 18th hole of the golf course. I ordered a few side dishes to start out. All the food was bursting with flavor, I couldn't stop eating but had to save room the nice 40 oz Thor's Hammer Tomahawk Ribeye. The extra time for it to cook is well worth the wait. Chef Aldo came over to our table with the Tomahawk on a cart and presents it to you. He goes over the cut of meat and then finally cuts it up for you. One bite and the meat melts in your mouth. It is so tender and full of flavor. Couldn't stop eating it. They even wrapped the bone up for one happy German Shepherd. The wife ordered the apple pie for dessert and it was really delicious. The apples were nicely seasoned and soft and the pastry was good. We'll worth it and definitely will be back to try more food. I would be in no rush to return to Ember & Rye. We are locals and were prepared to spend $$$ on good food. I was not prepared to spend $400 on inconsistent and not that special food. Overall way too overpriced for what we got: - 3 small appetizers (shisito peppers (spicy and good), scotch egg (very tasty) & corn creme brulee (not good). - 2 glasses of wine (decent) - creamed spinach and creamed potatoes (very blah) - bacon wrapped filet (was too smoky tasting for me) - Wagyu sirloin (be very careful when ordering this or you will think it's $90 and it is actually $190 (our fault for not noticing the full price & expensive mistake to make). Be careful when the server quickly asks if you'd like any sauces on the side. My husband said sure, and she said that she would bring out a few. Meanwhile each sauce is between $4 and $7. So there goes an extra $15-$20 on 3 small random sauces that we didn't even particularly want. I would not recommend this restaurant to locals. Maybe corporate events or out of town tourists with money to burn. The pretentiousness is too much for me. read more

This new replacement for the Argyle at the Park Hyatt in Carlsbad was a huge disappointment. Highly known Chef there now. Does not live up to expectations while being Very expensive. First after finally getting a reservation on Open Table - which only showed 5:30 and 8 pm as available -- the 90 * minutes we were there, the restaurant was mostly empty. And Not for distancing reasons. We were given the very last table in the back near the outdoor grill. A small table for two with many larger tables around. Stated a table w a view but?? The menu descriptions are very strange. Need much clarification. Items up to $230. W no side dishes. The wine by the Glass menu has a small weak selection - overpriced. $$ 55 sliced strip steak was very tough. Filet for $49 was very good. And very small. Some unique side dishes to choose from. But expensive. One of the strangest things there is -- they offer different type of ice cubes for drinks. At a cost of $1 to $3 -- per cube. YES that is correct !! ?? Remodeled surfaces are hard so place gets loud - even though the nearest table w other guests was At least 15 ft away and no one else near us in the back corner. Music-- strange for an expensive place. Janis Joplin was some of it?? We asked why these choices and were told " the chef likes this type music ". ??? I Thought music was for customers?? Nice looking new bar!! We have gone to this location a lot in the past for drinks - meals and happy hour. I will only go back for HH drinks. Also must say - that in a pandemic time in history we are just coming out of - and a restaurant on a golf course - this is even more disappointing. Special occasion or Park Hyatt customers which is across the street - will perhaps come here. Not the population that lives near - with families. Having a popular name behind a brand comes with expectations! You get what you pay for, but not in this case! The service, particular Alex and ambience, definitely met expectations, but the main attraction was a disappointment! The food was medicore at best, and to top it off, a handful of us got food poisoning! Ember & Rye yall gotta step it up! We went for Sunday dinner service. We were extremely impressed and will be back again! We ordered the pork belly, spicy cucumbers, creamed spinach, mushrooms, hammer cut steak, and strawberry jello. We loved everything we had, especially the hammer cut steak. The menu was a good balance of more "out there" items and more straight forward choices. I think its a perfect spot if you need a nice place for dinner that will please everyone in your group. The steak was just about the best steak we've ever had and the wine list looked was pretty good. What I especially appreciated was that the music and the atmosphere was calm enough to have a good conversation, enjoy the views and relax. Didn't feel rushed or pushed. Where do I start. I would give more stars if I could! Our server Jeremiah was amazing! Two MUST haves sea bass and apple pie dessert... but you MUST get the sea bass. I'm a very picky eater that eats out a lot and enjoys fine dinning. I will be counting the days until I have sea bass like that again. The corn creme brûlée is just like the dessert with a background flavor of corn flavor but no actual corn, which would have made it 10x better. There is also some type of fried egg that's delicious and the lobster knuckle sandwich. But please GET THE SEA BASS it's literally like butter in your mouth. I also had an amazing drink I can't remember the name but it comes with a bubble on top that dissolves into a smoky thing that's delicious and great for photos and videos so all my Instagram nerds be prepared! Had the best evening at Ember and Rye last night. The food was delicious, we had strip steak and bacon wrapped filet both cooked exactly to order. The beet salad was a great treat as a starter. Also the apple pie was exceptional. What made the night though was our efficient, funny and friendly server Jeremiah. He was a delight and made our evening even more special. This restaurant is highly overpriced for the quality of the food. I had the filet mignon and it was two small pieces sliced like liver patties with bacon wrapped around the edge. A huge disappointment. My husband and I chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary here. We are huge Top Chef fans and were excited to indulge in a delicious night of food. Sadly, the service and food were extremely sub-par: huge wait times for the food to be served, a non-existent wait staff, cold food and an overall lack of care. We had an early reservation (the place wasn't full) and we saw our server twice the whole night. We ordered the pimento cheese starter - it looked and sadly tasted like a crustable. We also ordered the pork skewer - tasty, but quite small. We then ordered the 40 oz ribeye - it arrived cold to the touch. The sides (corn creme brûlée and Chinese broccolini) were the best things we ate. We never got the supposed 'complimentary' garlic croissants. We decided to skip dessert after experiencing such bad service. Really unfortunate to have wasted money and time on this restaurant. Better to drive to San Diego for Juniper and Ivy. read more

Was expecting so much more! We went for lunch on a Sunday and the experience was sadly mediocre. The property is beautiful but the atmosphere was so stale. Music was on but barely audible, service was slow (the server forgot my wine for about 15-20 mins after the other drinks were delivered) and food was good but overpriced. For example, we had the ceasar which was completely smothered in dressing and served in a tiny glass "side dish" like bowl for about 30 dollars after adding chicken. The ahi and hamachi crudo appetizers were delicious but very small at about 20 a pop. I wish the restaurant would make this more friendly for locals instead of just making it feel like a hotel restaurant. We sadly won't be back unless they add something fun like live music, brunch specials or a happy hour. read more

Chef Blais made a point to come to every table and welcome his guests and actually took the time out to describe the menu. We weren't disappointed when the food came out! I've visited Ember and Rye twice now and unfortunately both times were very disappointed. I live in the area and have eaten at the Argyle many times which Ember and Rye replaced. Im sorry but I miss The Argyle. The renovated interior is beautiful. The new bar is beautiful and a very smart use of space. My first criticism is the "out there" menu. Many items I had to ask what they were. Hip and fresh replaces common nomenclature, I guess! There are steak items for over 100$...really? This last visit I ordered a burger...an aged burger...it tasted a little too aged...I told the waiter it tasted gamy, he said that is a common remark....I'm hoping it's not rotten! My onion rings were cold as were the fries....we left paying 90$ for one burger, onion rings and two martinis....the martinis were great...thank you! read more

I had dinner here and lunch and was blown away, new restaurant by The best Chef Richard Blaise. I had Erica as a server and also Chris one the bartenders. They were very knowledgeable and fully accommodating. Sara the GM checked on us, every aspect of service was above and beyond. The Atlantic Char was my favorite entree and the beef Tartar and lobster roll were delicious. The drink menu is geared towards more Smokey drinks that pairs well with the menu.
