I had the salmon which was exactly the right size, perfectly cooked and accompanied by roasted asparagus. My husband had the crab soup which was delicious. His entree was shrimp bucatini that he enjoyed but found the portion much too large. Service was outstanding, and my rather complex food restrictions were treated with respect and caution. This is just a wonderful place to dine, especially when you want a quiet, adult environment and be just a bit fussed over.

Thai Tara had been our favorite place to dine in Williamsburg... ...until last night. There is one simple reason that it has fallen off our list: Outrageous prices that are constantly rising. We have visited this restaurant biweekly for the past year since we moved here and at least twice on every visit to Williamsburg since the restaurant opened. What we have noticed is that the prices are going up at a far higher rate than general inflation. We started to dine at Thai Tara when it first opened a few years ago when it cost us $40-50 per person. Slowly at first, it became an expensive treat. But last night we were handed a bill for $70 per person; for 3 of us, the bill came to was $215. Nothing extravagant. Three $6 beers, three appetizers and a few pieces of Sushi and Sashimi. And for the first time in memory, the sushi rice was not properly seasoned and sticky, which makes for a poorly prepared product. But this review is not about a single disappointing food experience which is certainly the exception. This is about the outrageous prices. It is our opinion that pure greed is on display here. They fill the restaurant several times over almost every evening. They won a Best Restaurant honor recently. So our guess is that the owners have figured that they can grab for more profit and if they lose a few patrons, no big deal. They just need to keep in mind that many of their close-by loyal neighbors who are on a retirement budget and frequented this establishment, and are coming to the same conclusion. Thai Tara is overtly overpriced. So sad to say "so long ", Thai Tara. You have priced yourselves out of our budget.

A crab gazpacho with grape and other aromatic flavors as the base was well done but there was not much crab and so did not feel as if it was a particularly worthwhile dish to get. The grape flavor was also somewhat too prominent for my liking, but the dish was refreshing and light as promised. The brussels sprouts were solid but not particularly memorable. The oyster taco was slightly overburdened by slaw and proved somewhat more tangy than what was called. I would definitely come back for the clams and the smoked pork taco and would be interested to taste the raw preparations as well as the fried chicken taco next time.

Couldn't tell you what it was, neither could the waitress, but it was good. The steak was not the best. She likes her steak medium rare and it came out a little undercooked and chewy. It didn't have any flavor. There was no butter/garlic butter or even stalk and pepper to taste. We could hear the waiter behind us telling the other table "watch it's a hot skillet" ours wasn't even warm. The waitress had us use the bread butter and salt and pepper on the table to season it and the butter didn't even fully melt the butter. It was just not the experience we were bragging to people about. If you're going to spend $60 on a steak, this one's not it. Unfortunately at the time I'm writing this we went to a different steak house about 8 mins away. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Will be going there for date night next year.
