Very honest, Kevin came out to inspect our chimney and clean it but given the little use (we haven't cleaned it in the seven years we've been in our house) only recommended an inspection since it didn't need a cleaning. (Cleaning needed in another four years given our occasional use). Emerald City Chimney send out Bruce to seal my bricks on my brick house. He was professional and did an excellant job. I had covered my tomato plant next to the house as best I could. The plant was leaning up against the house. He took extra precaution to make sure the sealant did not drop on my tomatoes. I asked him if he could check my gutters while he was up on the ladder next to my gutters. He said they were clean except for a little junk in one small part. He cleaned it out for me. I had my insert fireplace cleaned and was very happy this company. I was able to get an appointment the day after i called and Bruce showed up on time ( there was an hour window). I don't know what exactly the cleaners do up there or how they do it and it's not like I can just look at the work but I will believe the work was done well. When it was time to pay, Bruce informed me the cost would be lower than what I was quoted due to the fact that my insert is a liner type and as he didn't have to pull the thing out so it would be a little less. He left the place clean and I was very happy with the job. I would use them again to clean my chimney. read more

3 years ago, we had Emerald City Chimney come out to replace a leaking chimney chase cover as the previous one was leaking. In less than a year, the new one started leaking. When I examined it, it was clearly built poorly as it forced water to collect on the place where Emerald had sloppily caulked the connection. It doesn't take a chimney scientist to know that that will not last. Luckily it was within their 1 year 'warranty', so a guy came out and pretty much just slathered more caulk on it. Sure enough it soon started leaking again. Being out of warranty, I applied a temporary fix that lasted approximately 18 months, ie longer than the so called professionals. I don't expect these things to last forever, but being unable to build a piece of metal that can last a year? read more

Danger! Not safe! If you're going to trust your family's safety with Emerald City Chimney, do some research yourself to double-check their work. I hate to give such a strong review to such friendly people, but they're supposed to be experts on fire safety!! They came out to inspect my wood stove. They wanted to replace the (properly) installed pipe I had with a custom piece to reverse the male/female coupling! If I'd followed their advice, I'd have a dangerous and expensive wood stove pipe. I looked it up online, and this is opposite what every article and video on stove safety says: point male ends down and female up, otherwise you could have ash, condensation, and flammable creosote dripping down the OUTSIDE of your pipes into your house. There's a reason they'd have to custom make it...because store-bought parts are built correctly! I'd chalk this up to incompetence and not greed...but either way it's dangerous. read more

Trust - We have had issue with fireplace draw after an insert was put in by another company years earlier due to a chimney fire. We then tried again to see what we could do to fix the issue (Draw so no smoke came in the house), and we had Bruce from Emerald City Chimney come to provide us an estimate. Earlier we had two other companies come in and we did not feel comfortable - one wanted to charge us 5K to put in a new liner, and the other said it just needed a cleaning ($900) and said if we still had issues call him - we knew this would never work and was confirmed by Bruce - he was the first one that said things in easy to understand words without jargon to confuse, but came to the conclusion that first our chimney did not have a fire recently, was clean enough that he did not recommend a cleaning. Bruce also said that neither the liner or cleaning would not fix the issue and said that trying to replace the liner would be very challenging and would bring in many additional issues and costs. We did trust what Bruce said, and it was nice to have someone tell us what we felt was the truth. He did recommend that we could put a wood stove in its place or a gas stove since it is plumbed. When we asked about just converting it to gas logs, he said his company did not do them, and recommended alternative companies that could assist us. read more

ECC came out today to inspect and clean out chimney. The representative was very professional, kind, efficient and informative. Setting up the appointment was easy and the office staff friendly. They gave me a window of arrival time and called the day before for a reminder. A few hours before the arrival time, the office called and expressed that the representative was running late and gave me a new window of time (about 30 mins later). She was very apologetic and concerned that the extra time would be an inconvenience. My schedule was open, so I wasn't worried but appreciated the concern for customer service. The representative came out and mirrored the same concern about being late and discounted the fee! I get that things sometimes don't go as planned and applaud their excellent customer service. The rep was also very informative and had great tips and information that, being a new homeowner, I didn't know before. Great job ECC. I bought my first home in Everett in 2015, hired ECC to come and make sure my fireplace was good to go for my first fall in my new house. After they replaced both dampers, and the crown and a few other things for a few thousand dollars, my fireplace still did not operate correctly, brining tons of smoke in my house. After going back and forth with them about their lack of availability I gave up. Its been three years and I still have not used my fireplace. I called today and asked for an appointment for a test fire. Their earliest appointment was December 13th, more than two months away. I asked if there was anyway I could get an earlier appointment, I was told I'm being rude and Lori actually hung up on me. When I called back and asked her how she can do that to a customer who has paid multiple thousands to them, she told me to stop calling and to never call again. Ok, ECC, you win. read more

They give outrageously high bids (more than double) compared to other companies, and cannot come up with a comprehensible explanation or breakdown of their bid. They are assuming that some people will just hire them based on a few good reviews, rather then getting some comparative bids. I had a bad experience overall. It does not make sense to extend the chimney first and then inspect it second. It makes more sense to thoroughly inspect the chimney for any breeches in the liner first then choose a route that bests suits the customer and her safety. If I had been told by Emerald Chimney there was a breech in the liner then I would have never burned logs. This could have been a potential liability - I could have caused a fire! The day of got a call from Wayne (person who was supposed to show up) leaving a voice mail that he didn't know he was supposed to come and he just learned of this appointment. Called up and Jill answered the phone. I asked for a spark arrester for our chimney. They sent someone out to see the dimensions of our chimney since they installed an after market damper that sits on the top of the chimney. They saw the chimney when I was away and then custom ordered it. About one week later that received it ...total cost of about $250 installed and they did the install just before the snow storm so we could enjoy seasoned fire wood in the fireplace. Our chimney is really tall, but no problem they had a really long ladder and people that were not scared of heights. The install took about 10 minutes total. We had a leaking chase cover causing a very annoying drip every time it rained, and we recently had it repaired by emerald city chimney. We have a 3 story townhouse, and the chimney top is really about 4 stories off the ground (not that accessible either), yet this didn''t phase these guys a bit (they carry 35 foot ladders on their truck). During the initial visit they inspected the chimney and took measurements and then we received a call the next day with an estimate and timeline. Let's see, where to start: I called and was able to get an appointment on the day/time of my choosing within a week. Someone called the day before to remind me (good thing because I'd forgotten...) My appointment was for between 2 and 4pm. The guy showed up at 1:58! Super nice, very knowledgeable. The problem was that my fireplace opening was too big so smoke was billowing out before the chimney had time to draw it up. Well, chimney guy said yeah, I could get a $400 lining or whatever, OR we could just try and attach something in front of the opening to keep the smoke in until the chimney was able to draw. I did just that, and it works fine, saved me $400! We had them come out and inspect our chimney for what we thought might be birds and a possible cleaning, plus some chimney caps. The service person was very helpful, took pictures and showed us that it was all clear inside and was probably just echoes from the birds sitting atop the chimney in the evenings! We had them install the caps anyway. Pricing was clear on their website and the bill was equally clear and explained to us. Also asked them about possible crown cracking but was informed (again, with pictures) that we might want to put a sealant on but there was no sales pressure. We'll totally hire them again. read more
