Some guys off the street had knocked on my door, pointed out my crumbling chimney, and wanted to replace it. They showed me how bad it was falling apart to the touch...this got the ball rolling in my head (since i do have some roof leaks from around the chimney maybe) to address the chimney. He and his assistant were at my place, on time, at a time that worked for me, for 5 hrs/3 days. Oscar explained every detail, answered all my questions, spotted some minor leak related stuff on my roof and fixed it at no extra charge. He is VERY in tune with maintaining high customer satisfaction. He was also conscious of making sure no carbon monoxide would creep into the house. Issue was the fire was very hard to light and would go out due to lack of oxygen after I had a different company performed work on my chimney. I had orig8nal company come out to see issue. I was told it wasn't the cap height being shorter, then my original. For me to open a windows or door. I told him that I never had to do that previously prior to work he did on my chimney. So I called and scheduled another company to evaluate issue. They charged me $200 to come out, then told to me it wasn't safe to use it. I should replace it. This made no sense to me, since it was obvious to me the chimney cap was too short and not tall enough, which caused back draft that put out the fire. I called Oscar to come assess the issue. No charge to provide estimate to fix issue. I told him my chimney cap was too short. Oscar did a thorough inspection and analysis of the issue. He fixed a brick that was installed incorrectly. He provided me with an reasinable estimate to install a new taller chimney cap and I had him reclean my fireplace, since it was dirty after the backdrop issue. Thad and Bob arrived on time and got right to work removing a complicated chimney cap clogged with baked on soot and creosote and then cleaned the flue from the chimney on down. I intended to have the cap contraption sand blasted but Thad said he could clean it with a wire brush and did. The charge was very reasonable and I was very pleased with the results. I called Ed's during a snow day when they were closed. Their vmail said they'd call back once the office was open. They called back and I scheduled 3 chimney cleans with them. On their website, it said they'd give a discount for multiple chimney cleans, but I guess it's for apartment complex, the discount was not applicable to me. They charge $125 + tax for a clean, and I think that is a fair price. The guys that came by were early and called to make sure before hand that, that was ok. They took a look at one of the chimneys and said it looked pretty clean and didn't need a cleaning really. So I opted to pass on a chimney. They cleaned the back chimney, and assessed it, saying there was a noticeable crack. And that it might need to be replaced in 3-5 years. Potentially the repair would cost around $450. They were done in 20 min tops. Afterwards, they went to my neighbor's house and cleaned his chimney. He said he'd give them 4/5 stars because they didn't wear shoe covers in his house. It took a little while to get on the schedule, which is totally fine for a non-urgent inspection and cleaning! The team was very responsive via Yelp messaging, and called the day of my appointment to say they could come early if I was ready (Which worked out great for me). After the cleaning, we had questions and he was quick to offer help and advice on using our wood stove.
