I contacted Pristine Sweeps to increase the height of my chimney to correct the draw so the smoke would go outside instead of in the house. Aaron Woodward, owner, did a great job and my neighbors even commented on how nice it now looks and they noted how carefully he worked on it. During the process, Aaron found that my old fireplace was illegal under current regulations. Not a happy find for my pocketbook, but he walked me through it all, got me a $500 credit for the old one and took care of the disposal the same day. We've worked with Pristine Sweeps for several years and have been very pleased with their work. In our first apartment Pristine Sweeps did a great job sweeping the chimney, prompt, clean and tidy, and efficient their work meant we were comfortable using the fireplace. When we moved into our house we had Pristine Sweeps come out to clean and assess the chimney. We appreciated their thorough and thoughtful assessment and had Pristine Sweeps do a lot of work on the chimney (parging, lining, crown sealing etc). When we started using the chimney we noticed that the air quality in our living room would drop so we had Pristine Sweeps come out to check their work. In fact their work was great, but it turns out our house is so tightly sealed that the pressure differential was working to pull smoke into the living space - not something Pristine Sweeps could have anticipated (this has since been confirmed by a pressure test on the house). We've had our open wood-burning fireplace cleaned and inspected by Pristine Sweeps twice now, and both times they were friendly on the phone, professional about scheduling and arriving at scheduled times, and no-BS about problems and risks. Aaron spent a bunch of time talking with me about how to improve the safety of our 1928 construction home's fireplace without completely rebuilding it, and in the end when we decided to go with a gas insert, referred us to another business who is also treating us exceptionally well. Being overambitious, I had decided to do some of the required repairs myself and ordered supplies. This company does an excellent job every time they come out to do work on our fireplace. We've been using them for years and it's always a great experience. From making an appointment, to them coming over to do the job. When we first bought our place there was a cast-iron insert in the firebox which we removed to revert back to its original state. Pristine came out, inspected the firebox and flue, made some minor repairs (they are very honest and won't "recommend" stuff you don't need), and put a cap with a damper on the top of the chimney. Since then, we've had them back out for cleaning and general maintenance. They are very prompt (show up when expected -- every time), and very clean. You'd never know they were there cleaning out soot and creosote. And they do it quickly and safely. Very good to know we have a good place to depend on for something as important as maintaining our fireplace. Be warned, they are very busy in the early fall season so expect a wait to get an appointment, but you'll be glad you waited. read more

We just bought a new house a year ago, with a fireplace downstairs, as well as upstairs. We were having troubles with our chimney. When we would have a fire upstairs, smoke would leak into the basement, and vice versa. So, we called Pristine Sweeps due to their high yelp reviews. A technician came out, and did the exhaustive and comprehensive inspection report. It is around $140.00. After sticking a digital camera (nothing fancy, a cheap, consumer camera) up the damper to get a 'picture' of the flue, the technician came to the conclusion that our house needed metal flue liners installed because our flues were possibly leaking into one another (they were next to each other). I asked how much something like this would run. His answer? $6,600 to do the upstairs and downstairs chimney both. I was shocked to say the least. A little backstory. Our house was built in 1955, so it doesn't have a liner. They started putting clay liners in in the 60's. So, our chimney was not built for or with a liner. It's a bit, beautiful old chimney. People used chimneys just fine in the 50's and before for ages. More on that later. At this point, the technician also informed us that our chimneys were unsafe to use due to the fact that they didn't have the liner and were leaking smoke. He wrote up the estimate, and went on his way. $6,600? That kind of quote calls for a second opinion, for sure. Which we did. And thank goodness we did. Our real estate agent recommended us to a chimney service here in West Seattle. He came over, took one look at our chimney from outside, and after I told him symptoms, he said we needed to extend the flue cap on top of the chimney because smoke is not ventilating out above the downstairs flue (which is right next to it), and smoke is coming in for that reason. Sounds pretty simple, and makes a lot of sense to me. He went upstairs, shown a flashlight through both flues and exclaimed that they looked 'beautiful'. Nothing wrong with them. They are two of the nicest chimneys he'd ever seen, in fact. He installed the flue extender, and also re-mortered our deteriorating crown (which Pristine Sweeps wanted to do as well, but with a sealant. Which is not fixing the problem, in my opinion). As he was about to leave, I showed him Pristine Sweeps inspection report, and he could not believe what he saw. In fact, I could tell that he was visibly upset about it. He told us you should almost never install metal flue liners into chimneys that are like ours, because it is taking a big and beautiful space where smoke can billow out the top, and making it tinier. He told us we would have nothing but problems if we do this. So, re crowning our chimney with real honest to goodness morter and not just sealant you buy at home deport, as well as adding a beautiful clay flue extender to stop smoke from getting sucked into our other chimney? $270.00. Much much better than $6,600 for work that would only make our problems worse, not better. So, in short, Pristine Sweeps tried to take us on the biggest ride of the century, and I don't want any part of it. Please be wary of Pristine Sweeps, and always, always get a second opinion read more

Aaron (the owner of Pristine Sweeps) clearly knows success comes from being honest and doing a good job the first time around. He was prompt, communicative and very detail oriented. Our chimney needed some work before we invested in a new roof. Several bricks were spalling and the mortar between the bricks had weathered away (with some help from woodpeckers) in many places. Most of the contractors from whom we solicited bids, including Pristine Sweeps, recommended rebuilding the chimney from the roofline up. Their bid was competitive and Aaron seemed to have his act together moreso than the competition in terms of his responsiveness and the thoroughness of his bid. Aaron told us the project would take two days and was able to fit us in his schedule within two weeks. He and his assistant arrived as scheduled and worked efficiently and carefully. Aaron's commitment to quality was obvious: he went to pick up new bricks (taking an old one to compare to the seller's pallet) but upon returning to our house realized that the ones provided by the seller weren't the best match so he returned the batch for a more suitable color. On day two, as they ground away old mortar to prepare to lay the new bricks, an unexpected downdraft sent dust billowing into our living room. I alerted Aaron immediately and he quickly left the roof, pulled his shopvac out of his van and brought it into the house to capture as much dust as he could before it settled. While the vac was running he helped to wipe down several of our son's toys that had dust on them. He set up a shield to prevent more dust from entering our home and apologized profusely for the inconvenience. I was impressed by how he handled this unanticipated mini-disaster; his quick actions left our living room at least as clean as it was before the dust mishap. Our new chimney looks fantastic and Pristine Sweeps will be our go-to contractor for any future chimney work. read more

I was impressed with Andrew from Pristine Sweeps. He came to inspect our chimney, and said that it looked fine overall, with a few minor cracks that will eventually need to be sealed up (once it's warmer). He was very professional, climbed up on the roof to take picture and a good look at our chimney. We have a bit of moisture inside and some cob webs, which he cleaned. I don't expect a service to be free, but the $153 fee seemed a little steep for not having to do much other than climb a ladder, take a few photos, and move the cobwebs away. Still--I would recommend them and will likely use their services again. read more

The mortar on one side of our chimney was starting to deteriorate and moisture was seeping into the brick this spring. Pristine Sweeps was able to come out relatively quickly, and gave a very reasonable quote that didn't add in extra things that weren't really necessary. Aaron came and did an excellent job, replacing the affected mortar. He was on-time, cleaned up very nicely afterwards, and then returned a few days later to apply water repellent. I was going to write this review for a while. So couple of years ago I read all wonderful reviews on Yelp and called this company to have my chimney cleaned. I paid around $200, don't remember the amount exactly, for nothing! They came over, told me that my wood burning insert is not certified and they cannot clean it. Charged me full amount for inspection and cleaning and left. Since that time I replaced the insert, another company did it. I will never ever use this company again and I don't feel that all those excellent review are legitimate. read more

Found Pristine Sweeps through Yelp and were very happy with them. Andrew did a complete Level 1 inspection of our fireplace and chimney. They removed a small amount of creosote from the firebox at no additional charge. Before leaving, he delivered a printed report (with photos, even from the roof!) which he explained in detail before leaving. We learned about some safety issues we should have known about years ago. We just purchased our house (1950s vintage) and had the fireplace inspected. Andrew Wilt came out and inspected it. We were impressed with his excellent customer service. During the inspection, we discovered that we had to have our chimney tuck-pointed. When he came out to do the work and started cleaning off the moss he discovered that the mortar on one side was actually in great shape. Rather than just doing the work and charging us the full price, he told us and saved us some money on work that did not need to be done. Even though getting your chimney tuck-pointed is not the sexiest remodel one can think of, our chimney looks great. Andrew was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, clean and did a great job. We are so happy with the fast, expert work from Aaron and great communication from Juliet and Aaron. We were fit in for an estimate quickly due to a cancellation, just one or two days after I first reached out to them. We were informed that any work may need to wait until after the rainy season, so I was surprised when they said they could order the piece we needed and were able to install it before New Year's day. Our currently fireplace-less chimney no longer howls and we don't have to wonder if birds and animals are getting in! We had some water coming into our basement right below the chimney. The chimney itself had some cracks in the brick and stucco that needed sealing. Also, we were concerned whether the flashing around the chimney itself was good. Pristine Sweeps came out an gave us an estimate. They asked $99 just for showing up to provide an estimate. They said they could fix the brick, but not the stucco. The money for the estimate could be applied to the work, IF we decided to go with them. We decided to go with them. Then started the waiting game. We'd schedule for one date. They wouldn't come out. We'd schedule for another date. Yet again, they wouldn't come out. Meanwhile, the water damage continued. We got the estimate April 4th. The work didn't get done until May 3rd. That alone made me wish we'd gone with another company who did work in a timely fashion. Pristine Sweeps caulked the crack in the brick chimney with these big gobs of clear caulk. They didn't bother using a caulk to match the look of the chimney. They didn't bother cleaning up the caulk to make it look nice. It's all globbed on there, sitting on top of the mortar looking like it just came out from the caulking gun. From the ground, you can easily see the caulk on the brick at the very top of the chimney about 20 feet up. For the flashing, they painted it with a anti-rust paint. But then, they didn't bother keeping the paint only on the flashing. They painted this dark, black paint over a good section of my beige stucco. They globbed the paint on there too so that a good amount of it dripped down in a huge mess, running down over the stucco. They then globbed caulk over the top of the anti-rust paint in huge, ugly lines of caulk. Pristine Sweeps also stated they'd bend back the flashing to make it more attractive. That didn't happen. Between paying for the estimate, waiting a month for the work, and then receiving a job that was done completely unattractive and unprofessionally looking, I can't recommend Pristine Sweeps. They may be cheap. The total was $247.73. But, they're not worth it. We're now going to pay another company to fix their mess. read more

Love them! Needed to have our fireplace and wood stove serviced, and didn't have any referrals. Found these guys via their website, which was pretty informative for a layperson like me. I made an appointment, which of course fall being a busy time they were booked up pretty far (which is not a bad thing). He was prompt, friendly, and very conscience about not making a mess. He showed me how bad our stuff was (ick - but not my fault! We just moved in!!!), and explained in advance how much it was gonna cost. Very reasonable cost (especially compared to a CHIMNEY FIRE!) Hired them to fix my leaking chimney last year fir a hwfty price tag and it is all wet. Due to inability to reach pristine sweeps I finally got a roofer out to take a look...he said they did a poor job. Stay away from pristine sweeps!!...not that you can reach them anyway! read more
