I love smoothies, so I stop here to treat myself several times per year. My critiques are, that they need better blenders, as there are always lots of berry seeds that leave an unpleasant texture for drinking. Also, the recipes whether custom or on the menu, seem inconsistent. Some are delicious with the perfect sweet and tart profile. Others have almost no sweetness to it at all (not so tasty). The staff also seems to be hit or miss. Some are friendly and helpful. Others seem to be screwing around a lot, and not giving enough of their attention to the customers. read more

I ordered, a woman comes in with a kid playing with a ball. No problem. That's normal. The ball rolled behind the counter and an employee picked it up for him. Very kind! Wow. Just had the worst customer service ever. I don't ever write reviews, but Jesus Christ I just had to. I'm literally in my car writing this in front of the store!! First off, the girl I had was just so rude! She had no customer service skill whatsoever. She was trying to rush me out of the store! And I was the only one in there. I've worked in the customer service arena before, and I know how it is. You have your bad days, I get it. But, at least try a little. It is your job! Anyways, she quickly asked me "what can I get you?" With no smile at all. Then I said my order. After that she just kept rushing me. On top of that, my smoothie also was not well made. I go to the one in cap hill, and they know customer service there for sure! And they know how to do their job. Also I was looking for a way to identify the girl who helped me. Thank goodness there was a bulletin board with the staff's pictures and their favorite drink. To be fair I'm not going to a snitch who she is publicly. Emerald city smoothie use to be my favorite and only place I would go to get smoothies. I would come here so often that every week I had a free smoothie....not anymore unfortunately. I forgot to eat breakfast and I was on my way to school and really needed SOMETHING!! Hadn't stopped by ECS in about a month so I decided to stop in. Upon entering I noticed that the menu boards have changed. Okay okay cool stuff upgrades I like that! While looking at the new menus I see the prices for smoothies have gone up a minimum .30 cent on all drinks and more on some drinks. No biggie for me! I love this place! The slim and fit was 4.95 and is now 5.25. I ordered my drink. Strawberry banana slim and fit with almond milk. I paid and got in the car to go to school. I take my first sip and think hmm okay maybe it's just that one. I take another sip and then another and stop drinking....needless to say I was disappointed. The smoothie was incredibly bland! Would it be my fault to assume that since their prices have gone up that the smoothie should be better or made with better more expensive ingredients??....I'm not sure. If the price goes up I'm expecting better than the last time. This was probably the worst smoothie I've ever gotten from ECS. I'm going to give it a try one more time and hopefully it's better. If not I have a high powered blender at home and I can make them myself. read more

Welp. I've been a longtime fan of ESC... I used to go to the one in Puyallup all the time. I work in Federal Way, however, so I've come in here now a couple times. Quality of smoothies is always steadfast; pretty awesome. A refreshing, healthy treat. I was really disappointed, though, in the customer service the last time I went. The two girls working were polite, at best. They didn't smile, they recited off the standard "what can I get for you today" and then followed by the traditional "regular or mondo" (note: I left the ? marks off my quotes because the questions were posed SO lifelessly, I could hardly tell they were questions) and before I knew it, I was off to the side of the counter and waiting for my smoothie. Enter middle-aged man. All of a sudden, the girls come to life. They are magically THRILLED to be working at a quiet smoothie shop, laughing cheerily, attempting to guess this man's smoothie order, wailing in defeat as they mis-guessed a portion his custom order. I just stood there, staring. I've never been so close to publicly confronting an employee of an establishment before. OK, I get that he's a regular. And a guy. But, seriously? What a way to make someone - who could have been well on their way to BECOMING a regular - feel completely unnecessary. I was dumbfounded at the BLATANT shift in outlook and attitude by the girls working. Super disappointing, and offensive. Just in case they read this: Ladies... just try to make every customer feel like you made that guy feel. How can there not be any reviews? Back in my hayday of being somewhat of a fitness buff, I would come here to pick up some creatine, whey protein, HMB, ephedra (for getting cut, but lets just say I will never touch this stuff again), etc. Even though they have pretty good prices on their suppliments, it is the smoothies that make me come back. After a long, hard workout, or even on a nice warm day, drinking one of these makes the day perfection. I have since lost my Greek God-like body due to large quantities of soda, really bad food, inactivity (school), and cocaine...ok, maybe not cocaine. I have always, always loved there smoothies. I use to go to the one up in sammamish everyday in high school way back then. But they closed it down. So now I go to the one in Redmond. The people that work there are soooo unfriendly. I went in last time and there was two young girls working and chatting away with each other and didn't say HI HELLO, HOW ARE YOU? Do you know what you want? And i told them. They continued on with their conversation about a new girl starting and how they were going to make her do the "bitch work". All these mean things they were going to have her do. (all the duties for the following day, don't show her where the garage was outside?) I paid and said "THANK YOU ". And they looked at each other and rolled their eyes. I was SHOCKED! I called the next day to try and speak with a manager and he/she was not available. Although this location is further from my house I often go here simply because there's a girl there that remembers me. Hey hey! Customer service goes a long way, and it's always nice going to a location where they remember who you are and what you order. I'm not too much of a fan of the other people that work there. But the girl with the glasses and the septum piercing is always willing to chat it up and make me my SLIM-N-FIT with Peanut Butter. Never once has it come out as a failure. But aside from all that, I've always been happy with the drinks that come out of here regardless of who's working there that day. read more

I'm slightly confused why others are attempting to crucify the customer service? I come to this store and the Twin Lakes one semi-often and have never had any "horrible" customer service experience. I mean granted, I've had the occasional impersonal chat but that's to be expected anywhere, it's called minimum wage folks. I believe if you treat the workers nice and warm then they'll return the favor - which they do 90% of the time. The one time I had a problem with my smoothie (was trying something new), I wasn't a fan of the texture so I asked them if they wouldn't mind making again without the raw fusion (vegan protein) and they did without any hesitation and I loved it. CON(S): The only things that is keeping me from 5 star however, are the fact that they don't have tips on those little credit card receipt thingies, which is the only way most people these days tip which I believe reflects badly on the owners. read more

I love this Emerald City Smoothie! The girls always greet me when I walk in (and they don't gawk at my boyfriend when we come in together). What really impresses me is that the girls know what smoothie I order when I come in. Cherry Slim and Fit with non fat milk (and occasionally a Lipodrene in my smoothie) I wish I knew the employees name but she is always so helpful and informative. Whenever we have questions, she's always able to answer them. She is short with dark hair and I usually see her on my lunch break (I'm always in my scrubs) However, today she was not there and there was 2 heavy set ladies working whom I did not recognize. Both were sitting on the back counter when I came in around 2:15 today and were not friendly at all. The employee who rang up my transaction didn't smile once and simply asked me to sign the receipt. No hello, no have a good day... nothing. Where's my regular lady!?!? I'll still continue coming in but the difference in customer service was noticable. read more

A healthy treat no matter the season. They are open early which I'd nice for those that workout early in the a.m. I come here when I'm in the mood for a smoothie in lieu of a meal. The smoothie makers are friendly and the owner is a hoot. I often order the slim and fit with blueberries. I have ordered other items and like them just fine. Parking in the morning was good. Inside was a small shop with a nice counter area for ordering. The menu items were printed large, very readable from behind the counter. Love this place! I love ECS to begin with, and when I found one in Federal Way, I was so excited! The workers are friendly, although sometimes they can be a little unresponsive if the customer they're working with doesn't respond to them when they greet them coming in (observed this yesterday with the girl that came in behind me). The smoothies are great, but customer service at the Federal Way location is just awful. The girls that work here can't even muster up a "hi" when I walk in or a "your welcome" when I say thank you. I've been into the store a couple of times in the past month but each time I literally feel like I'm intruding by walking in and ordering a smoothie. Management might want to consider a little customer service training. Its not like I expect a ton but really if you're working in customer services use some basic manners. I can get a smoothie elsewhere without dealing with these girl's snotty attitudes. They have a colorful jar on the counter asking for tips... Really ladies? Maybe if you would have gone a step above of barely acknowledging my presense I would have been more inclined to tip. I come here about 2-4 times a week and I would have to say it's AMAZING! Most of the staff actually knows my drink when I come in. It's something that makes me continue to come in plus they make the best smoothies you can't find anywhere else! I always get the power fuel with guava added. Make sure you get the MONDO!
