The staff here is odd. Sometimes you get the nicest kid in the world and the next you get the young blonde with the death scowl that acts like you told her she should break up with her 40 year old jobless boyfriend. This is the kind of place that sometimes makes you feel like you are bothering them for being a customer. If there was a smoothie place closer to my house I'd go there instead. That was AFTER the girl taking our order was done glaring at me after ever-so-kindly taking my husband's order and trying to pretend like I wasn't even there. (She made my order completely wrong too, but I digress) The time before that, we waited for our smoothies for 30 minutes and after watching multiple other people who came in after us get theirs, we were confused and asked if they had made any progress on our smoothies. The girl actually making the smoothies legitimately pulled our order out of the trash can and shrugged. Just had a really bad experience. We were the only ones in line. One girl said they would be with us she was finishing making one which seemed fine. We were ignored by the other one who said she is the assistant manager. She seemed to be doing busy work While we stood there waiting then the phone rang and the assistant manager took the phone order which she said would be made before us. We waited for them to be ready to take our order. So if you walk in they have bad customer service but apparently good service if you call in. When I asked about it they told me that when people call in that order is made first. The girl I talked to was the assistant manager but was young and was telling me this with a major attitude. I was here last weekend. I'm visiting from out of state where I have never heard of Emerald City, but I want to try as many Washington-based businesses as possible, while I'm here. The girls looked mean right off the bat. Their attitude towards everyone seemed so off, like they were miserable! I didn't read reviews before I came here, I just really wanted a smoothie when I saw the sign! They might have known one guy who was ordering so they were chit chatty with him, but he might have just been a chatty person. The girl who took my order asked me how my day was going and smiled, but it seemed forced and she asked me how I liked Washington so far. I mean, whatever, at least she wasn't aaaaas bad as the other chick making the smoothies. The wait time was quick. Maybe 3 minutes, but she slams my smoothie on the counter "Energizer!" And walks away. Geezus. It's sad that two girls who are physically attractive can have such UGLY personalities. Got a coconut passion smoothie today. The smoothie itself was really tasty. Coconut, pineapple, almonds, whey protein, and nonfat milk. The reason I give it three stars is because they only offer it in the two larger sizes (24 and 32 oz), but not the 16 oz. I ended up getting the 24, because I wanted to try it, but I definitely don't need 24 ounces of a smoothie and did not finish even half of it. It is very slow in there, with way too many customers and not enough staff, and the two people they have working were rude. Just walked out of here. 8/20/14. 830. The gentleman behind the counter was a total ass. It would not be possible to say, "what can I get ya." With more lack of concern. I asked for raw fusion protein. He said they had v power not raw fusion behind the counter. But I could buy it. politely and with a smile asked why, he said , "cause life is tough like that." My daughter said well, "just try it" i said, "I don't want to pay six bucks for it and hate it". But he did not offer to remake if I did not like the other v power protein. I want to start off by saying that I really miss the other Emerald City Smoothie locations! But I am thankful that one is still around even if the place could use some upkeeping! Finding out about this location made me so happy since we moved close to this one and all the other ones closed. Both visits were meh, each time there was a long line and only one person working. To be in this type of business you need to be able to multi-task and atleast pretend you enjoy what your doing since you are face forwarding, both times I felt none of this, but I guess it could have been worse as I read some of the other customers reviews. I was very surprised when I walked into the smoothie shop, I was expecting something similar to Jamba Juice. I immediately noticed the variety of powder mixes for purchase on one wall and then set my eyes on the menu. The price was a little much although after tasting my smoothie it was worth it. The Tropical Paradise was delicious, and Very healthy! A great place if you are looking for a liquid meal or just a refreshing protien drink. I'm in love! The Low Carb smoothie with peanut butter, blueberries, and banana is so good. It's a great meal replacement and excellent choice after a workout. There is usually a line but the staff give drink suggestions and make your smoothie fast. I'm always in and out in 5 minutes. Also, they have a frequent shopper card. Spend so much then get a free drink. Smoothies start around $5 so a freebie is good incentive to return. read more

I really love ECS. But this location is hit or miss. The customer service is crappy. They barely make eye contact, they really DO NOT want to talk to you unless you are a regular or half dressed. Every time I order the same smoothie and everytime it tastes different. They always seem soo overwhelmed and that any new customer is just an inconvenience. I know it's not sbux but when you have a bar full of drink please call them out loudly so people know their drink is ready. Because when its busy there are 5 drinks on the bar and 10 people standing around. I've been here a few times. I'm not a fan of the wait, but it's still not as long of a wait as other smoothie places can be, so I can't complain too much about the wait. The prices are a bit steep, but for the cost of replacing a meal, I'm ok with that, especially since Tacoma seems to be lacking healthy places to eat. I've received the best service so far, I get drinks mixed up when ordering, and they're very patient with me, and work with me on what to order for my needs for the day... If you need an energy boost this is a great alternative to coffee, just add a shot of energy, and you'll be golden for hours! Even though they have seating they get busy quickly, this is a get in and get out kind of place, unless you don't mind people continually bumping into you. I had the most horrible experience!. I used to go to the 6th Avenue Emerald smoothie three to four times a week for 3 years. But lately the co-owner when he works there he will take 6-8 people's order and money before he even starts making a drink. Which twice I have gone there has made me late for work. I decided to give it a try once again. I asked how long it would be since I saw it was kind of the normal where they do all these orders while the co-owner washes dishes before they start making the smoothies. I asked how long it was going to be because I was on my lunch break. Almaed states it will take however long it takes. The nice gal that was helping me I can tell was frustrated by his answer and I said I just need to know so I'm not late for my lunch. Then he all of a sudden puts me ahead of everybody else and said he was going to make mine right then. As if he was having a fit about me asking how long it will take. I handed my Emerald smoothie card since I do go 3 to 4 times a week (to others stores now) I like the freebies that I get. They had recently changed the 10 smoothies to you have to get 15 to get a free. I asked the gal when did they change that....Ameald came over and said you're always like this always coming in with this attitude in front of all the other customers. He said look at the flyer right there pointing to in front of the cash register can't you read it. I've been going to Emerald smoothies for years. I never have had an issue until now. And those are total normal questions to ask. So I asked who the manager was he says I'm the co-owner. .I Ended up getting a refund because I was afraid of what my drink would end up being like with his attitude. He should not be working there at all he has absolutely no skills in customer service. My questions were completely normal what anyone would ask when they're on a lunch break how long do you think it's going to take. Especially when like I said he will take six to eight orders before he even starts making the drinks then he does them all at once instead of in order as he received them. This won't prevent me from going to other Emerald smoothies but I will never step foot in this location! But I hope the other owner gets to see this and starts paying attention. I absolutely love Emerald City Smoothies! The unfortunate thing is that this location is in the same strip at an LA fitness and 3 minutes from Tacoma Community College. Those two places make the line always 4-6 people long and since each smoothie is made to order it *feels* like a long time to wait for a smoothie. The employees are always friendly, but usually too busy to get to know. It's a plus to see employees who clearly care about their health and have good hygiene- you'd be surprised how common it is for businesses to just hire people who are friends/family and have NO manners or personal hygiene! I haven't been adventurous with what I've tried, but my two favorites are the Mocha Bliss and a Peanut Butter Cup (a secret menu item given me by an old employee!)- so yummy! I would be in more often if I could afford the habit. read more
