I am a new patient here. So far I received one cleaning and some cavities filled. I thought the dentist was very nice and had a calm temperament that helped me feel safe and comfortable. I came to this dental office by referral of my HMO very leery as I've had poor experiences w HMO dental care in the past. I had a broken tooth and needed 2 crowns plus had an old crown done by another office come off. Dr Duvall was amazing! He recemented my old crown and had to recreate my other two crowns as I had broken the teeth and they fit and feel like my old teeth. My bite is comfortable as if it never happened. Cyndi at the front desk has been so helpful as well as I transitioned from one insurance to another. Highly recommend Dr Duvall at this office! read more

They were charging me for things that my insurance covered. They gave me the highest, most expensive upgrades on items without explaining my options, and what would have been covered by my insurance. They would call me a few hours before my scheduled appointment to see if I could come in early. I would arrive as requested, only to sit in the dental chair for 1-2 hours without being seen. I started getting a shady feeling about them and when I asked for an explanation of the charges, they gave me the runaround. So I had my insurance call them and they got the same runaround. The ladies and Dental Assistants at the front love to say "We're triple booked" in an attempt to delay you in getting your answers. They still owe me money for overages and work that has yet to be performed. I won't be returning, ever. Always get a second opinion and know what your insurance will and will not cover. Don't take theses criminals word for it, they will take advantage of you not knowing your insurance. read more

Absolutely do not go to this dentist. I wish I had read these reviews before I sent my wife here. We just moved into the area and needed a new dentist. Since Emerald is right across the street, we figured it would be a good place to go. My wife scheduled a first appointment and cleaning. First of all, the receptionist is very rude and impatient. She acts like she knows what she is doing SO well that she doesn't need to worry about being courteous, respectful, or flexible. Before my wife went in for the appointment, I had her call the office and ask how much the visit was going to cost after insurance. The lady told her the visit would cost between $0-$75 depending on the level of cleaning required. I gave my wife a hundred dollar bill. When I returned from work, I found that the dentist didn't even do a cleaning on my wife's teeth. They told her she had 15 cavities (between the teeth) and that she would require $3,000 worth of work. My wife hasn't seen a dentist in a little while, sure, but she flosses twice a day EVERY day and brushes constantly. The $3,000 worth of work included fixing a "broken" tooth. The tooth was ground down when she was a kid for a crown that wound up falling off. There is no broken tooth. During the "work", the receptionist came into the office and told my wife the visit was going to cost $106. My wife reminded her that she told her it would be between $0-$75. Then the receptionist said "well, how much do you have on you?" Since she only had a $100 bill, she said she had $100. The receptionist said, "that's fine we'll just take that." All in all, a disrespectful and rude swindle is all you will get out of going to Emerald Dental Practice. I HIGHLY recommend staying clear of here. read more

Different type of review, but here goes. My husband and I recently moved here so I was on the hunt for a job. I ended up stumbling across a Facebook post for Emerald Dental stating that they were hiring. A receptionist job was exactly what I was looking for so I said I was interested and went and interviewed with the manager the same day. I got the job that day and the next day I had my first shift. Already I could tell that the manager was going to be tough but I was excited because I wanted a learning experience and someone to help me gain skills for a future long life career. However, as the day went on the manager was extremely rude. Right away, she was micromanaging my every move (I understand training is stressful and not the most fun situation for the person in charge, but when you train someone it seems like you would want to encourage them and not make them feel bad for putting in effort). I was leaving a voicemail for an appointment reminder and I accidentally said the office phone number wrong and she hung the phone up and so "ugh so embarassing." It was a simple mistake and it was literally my first try! Then, we had a lady call and say her teeth were bleeding from a procedure the previous day and I let the manager, Cindy, know as she had told me leave notes for her and for everything every single person said in their phone calls. I left a note about this person as they were clearly in pain and discomfort and as soon as I turned away I saw her grab the note and crumble it up and throw it in the garbage. Then, a client had come in, he was an older man but he was so nice and he was from a small town in GA that my husbands family is from so we were talking about it and making small talk (bc I thought customer service was important) and after she takes him to the back she gets so angry with me and told me to not make small talk with clients as it was a waste of time. All this manager cared about was that my nails had to be perfect, my hair, too, and we were required to where full face makeup everyday. Cindy literally told me that if my hair didn't look good or if I did not have makeup on she would send me home. Now, I understand wanting the face of the company to look nice and professional but she took it to an extent that was honestly just pointless and offensive. I worked at this place for half a day and there is even so much more that she said to me (about how they "always lie" to clients and her making fun of a client that had "no money" based off of how much Care Credit loaned the client) and it just didn't feel right so I never name back. As of now, I work at an amazing vet clinic where customer service is valued and the employees are appreciated. I can look back and realize that my half day working there was not normal and a business should never be run by somebody who has no sympathy for other humans whatsoever. I would not entrust any of my family or friends to get serviced here. It's not worth it and you will not get real genuine service that is deserved when someone is treating and servicing your mouth and teeth! Everyone at Emerald Dental Practice were great. From the time I walked into the door and greeted at the front desk through the entire process, it was a completely friendly and professional experience. Cindee runs a tight ship there. While being worked on, even though you can't see her, you can hear her indistinguishable voice all over the office as she is on top of things making sure things are getting done like a well-oiled machine. That's the support you want behind you was a patient. The Techs were great: very friendly, they know their craft well, and they make sure you are comfortable at all times. Too bad there is not a "0" star review! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! The most horrible experience of my life. I have requested that my CARE CREDIT charges and the ACTUAL work that has been done on my teeth be sent to me 3 TIMES, NO RESPONSE. I needed and extraction and I was in the chair for 1.5 hours the first time, NO EXTRACTION, and 1.5 hours the next time, finally done after 8 ex-rays and drilling, cracking, digging! UGH! Then, the tooth was was next to the extraction, the filling was taking out, which the 1st dentist advised me, would have to be replaced. I went in and advised them I needed the filling to be replaced, Cindy came in and told me there was a filling there, I must have swallowed it! I told her I believe that I would know if I swallowed a filling, that the 1st dentist removed it prior to the extraction and he told me it needed to be replaced. At that time, she did tell me that the lack of communication she receives from the dentist is not to par, she takes care of different offices, blah, blah. They would replace at no charge. I came in for the filling, she went in behind closed doors with the dentist, so secretive, and again they stated I must have swallowed it, I could not believe me ears! On top of everything, the tooth that they capped around the same time as my filling, they told me needed to be extracted! I asked why did they cap it if it needed to be pulled! I was done. Also, between all this madness, my son that needed an emergency extraction, I brought in because I could not find anyone to do "same day", he was in so much pain, Cindy charged me over $1200! But, what is a mother to do when her child is in pain! I've asked dentists if this is the NORM for an emergency extraction, and they've laughed. I will be filling a grievance with Care Credit and hopefully will be able to recover some of my expenses. Wish me luck! read more

Complete Scam !! Went in to have a crown done.I have had crowns before never had an experience like this. When they went to take the temporary crown off , I told the dental assistant it was really painful as it wasn't coming off . I finally told her to stop, she went and got the dentist who proceeded to pull it off , pulling out what was left of my tooth and my nerve exposed! was in agonizing pain. The dentist then packed it in cotton as it was bleeding and at that point left and called another dentist that a friend made a call to , got me in. He couldn't believe , they packed it dry , no disinfectant, nothing. But here's the finale , they refused to give me almost 1000.00 I had already paid for the crown. Stay away from this place if you want honesty. They Jam Pack appointments so give yourself at least 2 hours for a check up. Dentist was great I knew what I needed and knew it would take me time and money to get there. But the office manager Cyndee or Cindy (don't know how to spell her name) pressured me so much that I left in tears. I know I needed a root canal and a implant but man she would not let me do these in separate visits. She slapped down a paper on the desk that read $8,000 I'm like what is that for. She said that is what you owe us for a root canal and a implant I said I can't afford that she came back with another paper that read 7,000 (car dealership vibes) Plus told me I needed a deep cleaning for $200 before they would even start and that was out of pocket.I kept telling her I could only afford one thing at a time and she's like no you need them now. I said well it's December can I get the root canal now then in January get the implant and she said no that's insurance fraud and we can get in but trouble. Ummmm ok. Now your lying to me. She also told me that I needed to get started on that root canal because if it got infected I would die. Um ok thanks. I went somewhere else today (I didn't die) and got the upmost greatest dentist that did my root canal and told me I didn't need a deep cleaning for 200 and now he will get mine and my families future service. I realized today letting my stuff go after my last visit was not a good idea but you have to find the right dentist and not to feel like your buying a car. Today was my first day going to the dentist in several years. Needless to say I was a little scared. The staff was friendly and explained everything that was going to happen. I had over $4000.00 in dental work at Emerald. I was advised to wait till the first of the year to complete the remainder of my dental work so that my insurance company would cover the balance in the New Year. The New Year was only a month away so I was fine waiting and the work that was being done wasn't urgent. Then I was informed that because I had dual insurance with my husband I was completely covered. I went ahead and had the dental work completed before the New Year as advised. Not more then a month out my dental work was cracking and three of the 6 teeth that Emerald Dental fixed were falling out. My new crown provided by Emerald Dental had fallen out and because they grinned the tooth so far down, the only answer is an implant at $3000.(Going somewhere else for that work) I was back spending 7 hours in the dental chair one day and 5 hours the next visit. And this was to repair their own work! When I went in to have my teeth fixed from the poor work provided, Elizabeth now a new front desk person proceeds to tell me I owe money due to the fact that her predecessor didn't know what the "hell" she was doing. When I asked for a statement Elizabeth provided me with a hand written bill. She then aruged over a bill that I had recieved confirmation of payment for by my insurance. I asked if my insurance company was billed for the next bill in question? Elizabeth stated "I don't bill that insurance company, it's to much work and I don't have time". During the time I was reviewing my dental information with Elizabeth, she received several calls from her new boyfriend and shared sweet stories of leaving her husband for this new Internet love. Finally Elizabeth stated that because she liked me she would go ahead and process this information to my insurance company as agreed in 2008. She stated over and over she never does this for anybody. We agreed that if any portion of the bill was not paid she would contact me and I left her my credit information. I left Emerald Dental and Elizabeth believing that the billing problem was resolved. Almost 2 years later I received a call from a collection agency stating I owe them double. My insurance company has never been billed for the work and I have never received a bill nor 1 phone call. Wow! Run!!!! Run away from Emerald Dental in Oceanside! It's not worth the coupon you may find in the Penny Saver or the gas in your car. read more

Eureka! Finally found a professional Dental office in Oceanside. We are retired seniors, relatively new to this area and have been searching for a few months for a Dental Practice. The Front Office Staff were not only professional but suggested a treatment plan we can affoed. This Practice offers discounts to the Military. Dr. Barron was exceptional....explained what was wrong, how to fix it, and what is needed to be done in the proper order. Cindee the Office Manager was more than helpful. The staff is so beyond rude and there scam artists all they want is money they tell you you need something when you actually dont. We have a strong suspicion that they may have even pulled the wrong tooth and then had to pull a second one. And when my husband told the dentist that was working on him that he could feel the drilling, the dentist was very rude and didn't believe him. We will not return! I wish I could give a minus 100 stars for this business!!! It is a horrible office with horrible practices and behavior. Every month they had a different ortho with different opinions so it prolonged braces. The dentist will belittle you about your teeth. Had me tears once and didn't even have a cavity. The manager, Elizabeth, likes to yell at the patients and tell them she doesn't have time to talk to them during their appointment. Braces always had wires that poked or popped off but they stated they only saw ortho issues once a week and the kids are just exaggerating.My poor kids cheek bled so I was forced to get my tools out and help. I referred a friend to them. The dentist ended up leaving a tool in the tooth leading to expensive surgery and later a lawsuit. I can go on and on. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

Absolutely unprofessional, only 1 Dr at the office working with 3-4 patients at one time jumping from patients to patients. Hidden charges.. missed measurement and asking for extra charges in the middle of treatment. Long wait while they have you laying there. Cripes, after reading all these bad reviews I still went there. !st, I arrived early for a 9:00 appt. and nobody showed up until 8:50. I had some pain in a back molar and after x-rays were taken the tech told me I had an infection which we could see in the pic. Then the famous Elizabeth comes in and tells me I need 2 root canals and 2 crowns. I knew already I didn't have any roots in those teeth.(The x-ray tech and I discussed that very same thing). They messed up measurements on my crown and instead of sending my home and getting a new one they shaved down my neighboring REAL teeth to make it fit. 3 hours later that crown cracked I half. Talked to an old friend and she said they shouldn't touch anything but the one tooth. This place is full of half assed work and unqualified people read more

GO HERE AND LOSE YOUR TEETH!!! I took my girlfriend here because I've been a couple times for cleanings (which were always cold and rigid) so I figured they would be alright for an exam for my girlfriend regarding her hurting tooth. WRONG! This is what my gf has to say: Not only did they tell me nothing regarding my hurting tooth, the one I came in to get looked at, but they told me that the tooth next to it was cracked at the root! This was according to the fuzzy x-ray pics and lack of competence on the part of Elizabeth (the butch and bitchy head honcho in charge). It was not taken into consideration that that was not the tooth that was hurting and instead I was told that it was a one in a million case where the teeth behind the cracked tooth were what caused it by pushing laterally on it. This was told to me with 100% confidence. I was devastated, I cried the whole way home and was miserable up to the point of surgery, dreading the new homeless look I would assume. Thank God for Dr. Mudd the highly decorated retired air force Lt. colonel dental surgeon in Oceanside who at first took Elizabeth's word and was ready to extricate my tooth and replace it with a bone graft for a future replacement. However he didn't feel comfortable proceeding based upon the shit-poor resolution of my x-rays so on the morning of my surgery he took a rather impromptu cat scan x-ray and discovered that my tooth was fine with NO FRACTURE. After $130 of examination fees, fret and worry for 5 days before surgery, upsetting family and friends and the time it took to schedule and attend everything it was all for nothing! I returned to the lovely folks at Emerald dental who insisted to defend their master and commander Elizabeth. I told them they messed up and they became defensive and unapologetic for their blatantly clear mishap. They are a joke, a fraud and are crooks. Do your self and the world a favor and never step foot in that place!!!! read more

I have come to Yelp to leave a good review for Emerald Dental and find all these bad reviews. I don't know what kind of experience other people have had but I can say my experience has been great. Elizabeth has bent over backwards to help me when no one else would. They have a new surgeon that comes in once a week that does excellent work. I had little to no pain and the swelling was minimal. It has been 5 days since the operation and I am shocked at how good the work is. Out of all the Dental Practices I have been to this is by far the best. read more
