I went to Emerald Isle out in a cute area of Edison Park, filled with restaurants and pubs. A friend of mine was in town from Nashville, singing so I wanted to watch her show. The place is larger than I expected. It looks like maybe 2 businesses combined to make this one large bar. I can see this place getting pretty packed during it's busy times. I happened to be there on Christmas Eve, which is not necessarily a bar night. I was surprised at how many people were there though. The place looks like a classic, divey pub. There is a big bar off to the side, a juke box, a small stage and plenty of room for dancing. The place is a no frills kind of spot but still has a warm and cozy feel. The bartenders were really friendly and covered the large bar area like pros. It looked like there was a big kitchen hiding in the back, but I did not see any food. There is a hot dog shop next door if you get the munchies. I was surprised to see a huge parking lot for the bar directly across the street. With all the restaurants in the area, I can see parking to be an issue on busy night. Overall, I had a great time listening to the live entertainment. Good music being played out in the parking lot on Sunny Sunday's across the street. Bring a drink and enjoy the music or go down the street and pick up a beer or cocktail from Zias. Yesterday we got to sit on the patio. As a note: we ordered at the bar before going to check out the patio. No masks on the bartenders or gloves worn when handling straws. I get it's a learning curve to get used to this new idea of feeling safe while enjoying and supporting small businesses. My friend decided to order a bunch of food too and the pizza was fantastic! We were so happy to get to sit outside and enjoy each other's company. In the future we will retreat to going back out and listening to the music in the parking lot. Maybe it's my servsafe management certification and my experience in the hospitality industry but I take dining out to a whole perspective. Great customer service from the employees! read more

When I just turned 21 a few years ago, I liked this place. Now, not a huge fan when Firewater and Morettis are walking distance. The bathrooms here are always disgusting and dirty, and I feel like everyone here gets served alcohol no matter how drunk they look or act. The bartenders don't seem to care as long as they're making money. This bar does have a pretty mixed atmosphere with young and older customers. This place used to be super busy, but I came here on a late Saturday night about a couple months ago, and it was literally dead. It's a hit or a miss. I know tons of people who have gotten into this bar without being 21 because when I turned 21, all these kids from my high school were chillen here because they all got in with fake out-of-state IDs and they couldn't get into Morettis with them. They went out of their way to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Special shout-out to Dave for being so fair and accommodating; Erin for helping organize and run our event and responding so quickly; Anita, our event bartender, who was super friendly and did an amazing job; Marty who ran around helping with food, decorations, wristbands, and anything else we needed with a smile on his face; and Mark, the bartender in front who willingly helped out when needed. I visited this place recently and it was a great after work, relax, whine down kinda feel. The buffalo and hamburger sliders were great tasting and the service was also very nice. Although a bit short staffed, it wasn't too bad. They are limited in craft beers but they do carry all your main drafts i.e, miller, bud, etc. I would recommend this place for a low key, relaxing place to get away from a hards' day work and enjoy a few brews. Visited this place the Saturday prior to St. Paddy's, it was jammed packed and there was a 3 dollar cover. Now normally i refuse to pay to then pay to drink but not much else around and didn't feel like roaming around looking for a place to get a few drinks. Wife and i enjoyed a few rounds watch the locals act like fools but had a good time. The staff were awesome which was great, fast attentive did a good job trying to keep up with the messy drunks spilling and dropping bottles all over the place. I went in at 11pm on my 21st birthday and before me and my 21+ friends could say anything the bartender said and i quote "i'm not dealing with this s*** get the f*** out we're closed". We were all very confused because this bar closes at 2 am so we tried to show the bartender we were in fact 21 and he would not look us in the face, all he said was "get the f*** out". While we were googling somewhere else to go he forcfully pushed us all out. I especially was very upset because we just wanted to order one drink for my 21st birthday and all the workers were very disrespectful and rude. 0 stars if I could. We have been here multiple times and sat out back with our dog as recently as 8/23, had a nice visit, and even met one of the owners. As soon as we parked on 8/27 and we're walking towards the crosswalk with our dog, a very rude bartender came out yelling at us that he was getting us towed. We had all intentions of sitting out back, ordering some food for their new menu and drinks, and enjoying the afternoon at the isle when this gentleman was extremely rude. We informed him we were going there and we're just going in the back. He swore at us and told us they don't allow dogs and he didn't know what we were talking about. We understand if there was a new policy put in place but there is a better way of communicating it to the public. We will never give them our business again. read more

I like what the new owners have done with the remodel. Its a great neighborhood place booking some great live music (at a reasonable volume, thanks!) with reasonable prices and a good menu. A friend's birthday bash brought me here, as it's quite the field trip from my E. Lakeview abode. I didn't think much of this bar until I walked into the newly added beergarden out back. Spacious and beautifully landscaped with pots of overflowing flowers scattered throughout. Our group was able to take over the entire beergarden without any resistance on a Sat. night. I really loved this beergarden despite all the mosquitoes being out! On to the food. The cheddar burger was cooked to my liking, and the hash browns were a step above most. I should mention that most items on the menu are $6 or less! Everyone seemed happy with their selections. One caveat: A friend tried the cheese fries and this is where Emerald Isle greatly disappoints: the cheese sauce is not for consumption! My curiosity got to me and I tried it. I love most cheese and this funky foodstuff is just bad. Bartenders and servers are A-gamers and the Isle also offers a nice beer selection with $4 import draughts. On a sidenote-- I don't know how the people living in the apartments above the beergarden do it! read more

Ladies, if you're looking for a cute 20 something, you'll probably find a few here. The men to women ratio is usually off the charts. As for the bar itself, it's OK. I'm not crazy about the fact that if you don't know one of the bartenders, you have to wait forever to get a drink. The beer garden is nice, and keeps you somewhat away from the horny dudes at the bar if you are not looking for that. I've never eaten here, as there are so many really great restaurants in Edison Park. This is a place to go AFTER dinner for a couple of drinks. Not too shabby, Emerald Isle. I went here at a friend's request to see a 60's cover band. I was warned by other friends who live in the area that Emerald Isle is an "old man's bar." I never really hung out in Edison Park before, and was pleasantly surprised at the large amount of entertainment options in the area. Emerald Isle was packed, and a large majority of the crowd was under 30. Who woulda thunk, eh? The place is pretty spacious, even while packed. Service was super friendly, although my only gripe was the kitchen had closed by 11. And drinks are pretty darn cheap, too. read more

Oh, Emerald Isle, the humble location for many impromptu, informal and awkward high school reunions. The funny crowd aside, the bar itself is alright. There's a good beer garden out back, nice for warm nights. A downside is that when the bar is crowded it can take forever to get a drink from the bar. The bar is decently clean. I have not had the food, so I can't judge it. Drinks are how I like them here: CHEAP. Pretty standard bar food here but it's good and will get the job done when you are making irrational food decisions because you're drunk. They have good lunch selections too, for those who work in the area. They have $1 drafts on Wednesday nights, but go during the school year when all the frequent under-agers are at school. This pub covers my three basic bar needs: - reasonably priced beer/booze, with an acceptable variety - a shit-ton of places to sit whether there are two or twelve of you - a jukebox (bar with generally good music is also an acceptable option) That being said, this is a "bro" bar on weekends, and the crowd is the kind that likes modern country or thought going to Lollapalooza was edgy. If that is you, GREAT! You will love this bar. I never consider myself a hipster until I go into bars like these. The vibe was 20's-early 30's, crowd sitting at the bar was a little more mixed. So aside from a sucky crowd, I had a good time with the company I was keeping (music aside), and my bartender was FANTASTIC. I went on a Saturday night. She remembered my drink order, was quick and thanked me for every tip. This bar gets an extra star just for her. I wish I would have gotten her name so I could call her out on here. a group of 5 of us came on a Saturday around 10pm. It was pretty empty except for what appeared to be regulars at the bar. we ordered a round. my drink came & it tasted like plain soda water. i had 2 friends taste it & they agreed that there was little/no alcohol in it. i told our waitress & she kindly said she would take care of it. she returned ... very apologetic...and said the bartender refused to add any vodka to it because it was properly poured. i said i no longer wanted it & please remove it from the bill. 5 minutes later she returned with the drink...she said the manager (or owner...or whoever) decided to add some vodka to the drink after all. I tasted it... it was now definitely a 1 shot cocktail. 5 minutes later a man walks up to our table and says..very gruffly ... "is there a problem with your drink?" I felt like I had better say it was fine now....or risk getting punched. All of the females at my table said he was "scary". We finished our one round & left. to go ANYWHERE else but this place. what a bunch of jerks. no wonder it was empty. our waitress was very nice & apologized. I dont blame her for any of this. oh...and yes... they did charge me for the drink. Go to EPI....Morrettis...Firewater...Curragh... anywhere else. ATTENTION ALL WOMEN!! Do not go to this bar! The group of women I was with were continuously harassed by a male patron. After asking him to stay away multiple times we notified the bartender. The man did not listen to the bartender and came over to us again. He was only removed after he started shouting at us and the female bartenders got him to leave. After the man left the male bartender told us the man was a regular and he was drunk so we should forgive his behavior. Our request for help and safety as paying customers was dismissed. Been coming for years. New owner towed my car while i was a patron. They dont call out the car or license to the customers while its being towed. Bartender wouldnt call and tell them it was a mistake. Turns out the owner also OWNS the tow company. Lots of the great employees have left or have been fired. read more

This place was waaaaay cooler before they remodeled. WAAAAAAAAAY cooler. They used to have a whole wall filled with dart boards. Do they now??? Noooooo. And I thought this place was pretty damn awesome before I turned 21, when I used to hang out there practically EVERY weekend. Now? Not so much. They do, however, have an outdoor patio. The place was really packed but there still was a lot of room to move around. Pretty good atmostphere and music. The only thing I am docking them on is their bathrooms.
