One of the best game stores in the area. Staff is great (some more friendly than others, but all very knowledgeable). They have an excellent selection of dice games, strategy games, role-playing games, and comics. Lots of space for gamers to play, and have dedicated game nights for different games, including board games, magic (card game), and RPGs. I go out of my way to purchase games here to help support them, cause they rock so hard. I also occasionally go here for Wednesday board game nights, which is also excellent and friendly. I used to come here every Friday to get my ass handed to me for Friday Night Magic... It's not that I'm bad, everyone else is just a lot better. But nevermind that, this place is awesome! I've been coming here for a few years and love it. They always have something cool going on and are always stocked with a diverse variety of comics that could entertain a whole family. When I was more of a regular I'd get calls from the owner reminding me of new Red Lantern items coming in stock because he knew that I was a big fan of the Red Lantern core. I never really asked for him to do so, but I really appreciated that amount of customer service and especially with the kind of merchandise he was calling about made it that much more awesome. read more

I come here on a regular basis for playing the collectable card game, Magic: The Gathering. I only give four stars because Emerald Knights does not catalog their massive collection of single cards, which makes customers search through boxes of cards (this can keep the purchase price down, and one can discover some great deck additions) -- but when I can't find what I'm looking for, I feel like I've burned up too much of my time. This place has fantastic staff who are willing to give you attentive, friendly service. Emerald Knights has an excellent selection of comic books, board games, and top-notch availability of community-use board games of all kinds. Not to mention the collectable games like Magic: The Gathering, HeroClix, WarHammer, and the like. The parking here is AMPLE, so this is a great place to meet-up with your friends for a game night (or day, even), or even to meet fun new people at a special event or a game tournament. If you come here often, I highly recommend buying a yearly membership. The membership will give you discounts on tournament entry fees, and it will also practically make your other purchases tax-free. Another plus about this place is that they allow outside food to be eaten in the store - so if you're going to be here a while having a good time, you might as well get something delivered. Also, Champs Sports Pub is across the street, and Coral Cafe is down the block if you want a change of venue to hang out, so there's that. read more

I play war-games every month with my Gaming club here, well I try to make it every month. This place is awesome though. They carry just about everything and even have a second floor terrace type gaming/retail area. I really like how the sales floor and gaming areas sort of mingle together. They also have a quarantine section for what looks like an RPG group but I don't know I've just peered through the Plexiglas and observed the nerd in his natural habitat. They have snacks and drinks and bathrooms for men and women. The employees are friendly and professional. This place has a lot of character and good times are always had. My Grandson loves this place. I am so happy that there is a safe place for him to go hang out and play games. It is so much better than other things he could be doing on a Fri or Sat night. The owners are really great, too. I went in to buy something for him for Christmas since they know how much he loves that place. They were able to direct me to items that he would really like even a book that had seen him looking at. Since I wasn't 100% sure about everything, I was also able to purchase a gift card. read more

The Emerald Knight is, handsdown the best comic book and gaming spot in Burbank... probably the entire Valley. First off, the people are extremely friendly. You will be approached quickly and asked if they can help you find anything, but it's low pressure. If you're just browsing, say so. Selection is high as far as I'm concerned. I always find what I am looking for. The atmosphere is very clean and upscale, with TVs located on walls throughout the store playing movies and other things. Love this place. read more

I will start off with the positive. They do have a decent selection of reasonably priced board games, which is now the sole reason I will ever step foot in this shop again. Now the bad. Their comics are extremely over priced. They charge a dollar more for any issues that are more than a couple weeks old when you can find them for list price at other, better comic shops. The staff is extremely awkward and unfriendly. They rarely welcome you when you come in and have certain air about them that just screams "comic book guy" from The SImpsons. Anyone who has said that the staff is friendly I am confused if they went into the same place I did. The experience I had today was just plain inexcusable. They are selling common variant covers of comics for 330% more than other local comic shops and ebay and when I mentioned this another worker said its a 1:20 variant so that is why the price is high. This is not true. When you look at the solicitations from DC, the do not list their monthly themed variants as 1: anything. They are not shipped to be sold at a higher price to the consumer. I cannot believe anyone would pay for $10 for a comic that everyone else is selling for $2.99. Or in my experience with another local shop, House of Secrets, $2.39, because they take 20% off cover price. TFAW.com also has this variant cover comic going for $2.39 on their website right now. If you are solely a gamer, then I am sure this is a great place for you. I have never played games their but it seems like it could be a cool place to go, They get two stars for that. But since more than 50% of this store has comic books they get a 0/5 for being a comic book store. I don't like to write bad reviews for shops like this because the industry is so small and any comic book store should be a good thing but they should not be operating if they are charging customers this much money. read more

Emerald Knights has been an incredible part of the Burbank community for years now. As a store it's wonderful; but more importantly, it's such a great place to hang out and game, and to go to events with. I've loved going to movies with them, particularly because many of them are already fans of what they go to. They always have entertaining talks and trivia contests beforehand. Emerald Knights is really a fantastic store. Lots of space for games, very friendly staff, and a great comic selection. The real highlight is the huge amount of games they run. Magic every weekend, pre releases, 40k twice a month. Having all the tables upstairs allows for large events that are a lot of fun. I do wish they had more miniatures. Great store with lots of collectibles. You could easily spend many hours just browsing all the games and comics. The staff is friendly and will not hesitate to offer suggestions or help you find something you are looking for. Comics wise they have tons of back issues, although some of them seem a little overpriced. They have a wide range of new issues, however they don't have as many copies in stock as other places like House of Secrets. read more

Went back here last week on a wednesday morning to look for a book. Although they did not have what i was looking for, this establishment always exudes a customer friendly atmosphere which i personally appreciate. So far all my visits here have been pleasant because the staff are helpful when you need them. They don't seem to discriminate between customers which is great too. Other comic book stores have staff and owners who only pay attention to their buddies which is weird for me because why run a business if you will accommodate only regulars and buddies. You're basically limiting your possibilities that way. I can't say if i have interacted with the owners but its very possible and i just did not know who they were. I don't even live anywhere near this part of town but it's always a pleasure to drive here when i need to. And with a habit/hobby like Dungeons & Dragons, being on a budget doesn't really mesh well with being on a budget. A good selection of RPG books and minis. Plus, hey, D&D night (which I have yet to attend, I'm trying!). Fairly decent prices on minis, but, still at $3+ a pop, I can't really buy more than three at a time, but that's not these dude's fault. That's mine, and the industry's. Ok, so I've been collecting comics for over 25 years. I've been to many different comic book stores over the years. Right off the bat, this is a good comic book store. Pros: -GOOD SERVICE!!! (This is very rare to find because most comic book store employees are really grumpy and elitist - the unappreciated geek of the world attitude) -Good selection of CURRENT comics -Fair prices -Cool gaming tournaments (I love seeing happy geeks convene) Cons: -Very poor selection of Golden and Silver age comics (which are mostly the ones I collect) I highly recommend any comic book fan to stop by this store. Seriously it's like a dream in there. I've been to a lot of comic book shops but since my interest in getting back into DC with DC Rebirth, I found this place. Everyone is super friendly, the selection is amazing and it's not overpriced. I've been to other places that rip people off but for as big as the store is, they offer a great selection at great prices and they're super knowledgeable and not con artists. I can't say enough about it. I drive from Tujunga/Sun Valley to get to them. Great rewards program too. You have to go here if you're a fan of anything comic book related or if you love socializing with like minded people. I think they have an event every day/night. 10 out of 5 stars!!! read more

I attended a pioneer magic today. The event started late. They forced 3 rounds instead of 4 with 15 people in the event. Drew in the top 4 one the employees Said we fixed the event because we decided to do that. That made me feel very uncomfortable playing there. Then when the prizes were given out it was absolutely disrespectful. Places 2-4 got cards that weren't even worth a 1$. We complained about it worker says 'if you don't like it, you can get nothing instead.' That was the worst display of customer service I've ever experienced. The prized they was worth 30$ is actually 10$ on TCGplayer and the card wasn't even in mint condition. I would never even return this store. I'm very disappointed in the staff at emerald knight.. I'm going to complain voice my concerns to wizards of the coast too. BTW LEGACY COMICS IN GLENDALE does modern on Tuesday and pioneer on Friday's. Emerald Knights is a great place to game! I'm a casual Magic: The Gathering player, and this store is easily my favorite in the LA area. The atmosphere is less charged and more fun than the other stores I've played at, which really goes a long way toward making the MTG experience so good. They also have HUNDREDS of board games on the upstairs shelves that anyone can just pick up and start playing. There are several groups of people who host various games at the store on a regular basis, though I haven't actually participated in any such games (yet). The folks who work at EK are just great. They're friendly and knowledgeable, and occasionally join in on the fun themselves. The only significant drawback about EK is that their selection of MTG singles is mostly unsorted, so finding a specific card is very difficult (and they can't tell you ahead of time if they even have the card). Their card boxes are perfect for newbies and casual players to find new cards to play with, but not at all well suited for experienced players looking to fill out a predetermined decklist. Finally, something that not a lot of people seem to know about is that EK Members get wireless internet in addition to the price cuts. Just ask them to input the wireless password on your device, and you'll have free internet while you're there. read more

My home away from home. When I moved to Burbank a year ago, one of the first things I did was look for a comic book store. Lucky for me, Emerald Knights is mere blocks away. They really do have it all: comics, games of all kinds, toys, etc. But any store can stock a lot of stuff; EK is more of a community. To put it simply, there's always something going on at Emerald Knights. You know those game/comic book stores where you go in and there's one person perusing the stacks while the employees stare at you? Not so here. Come in any time and you're likely to find a boisterous Magic tournament, D&D/Pathfinder groups, a HeroClix or Monsterpocalypse game, or a roundtable discussion about comic books. Everyone's welcome and the guys at EK (both employees and players) are happy to teach new players and incorporate them into whatever's happening. Emerald Knights also has tons of special events like signings, prize-supported tournaments to celebrate new game releases, and much more. And to top it all off, they sell snacks and drinks so you'll never go hungry or thirsty while playing games again! read more

This place is not a comic shop. It is a place for card gamers. I'm not gamer. I'm a comic book reader. They had plenty of shirts and action figures and a whole multiverse worth of tables for people to sit and play card games but barely any comics. They barley had any new stuff, certainly no back issues. It isn't a comic book store, and it shouldn't be called a comic book store. I'd never step foot in here again. So why two stars at all? Because if you want to play a card game and some folk do, this is your place. read more

they should not give comics top billing in their title because this is clearly not a comics shop. rather, its a gaming shop. more than half the downstairs and all of the upstairs is relegated to gaming supplies, games, and gaming tables. meanwhile, they have a couple racks of new comics that aren't that cared for. sure, they're all bagged and boarded, but there's nothing denoting what's new or whats hot or anything. its almost like the comics are an after thought. the trade paperback situation is even worse. two bookcases underneath a staircase and behind some clothing racks house their meager supply of trades. its sad really. if i was a gamer i'd love this comic shop. as a comic book buyer i hate this gaming store. read more

The layout is great. I love this place but mainly for their great selection of items that you can use for Miniature games. They have the Star Wars game which is awesome, ample space for D&D and plenty of map items for terrain. However for their Magic I felt myself wanting. Their Magic singles are almost 30% higher than what you can get online, a lot of times almost 40%. I understand it's retail and everything but it doesn't give me an incentive to shop their wares. I generally like their tournaments, but the structure and payout wasn't clear, nor was it, in my opinion, very fair. First and second split. 5$ randomed off. Nothing for 3rd. I understand the 5$ random, and the previous week I was told it was just because they only had a tournament of six people that they did it Undefeated gets the bulk and a random to the last person. I then found out from 1st and 2nd that they only received 12.50$ each. We had a pod of 8 people, entry fee is 5$. 1st-2nd split - 25$ 5$ Random. 10$ seems to have gone missing, or been ignored, or kept by the store. I was kind of excited when I found out they were offering promos to everyone, with first picks going to winner and then down the line. However, placing third, I had the glorious options of Thopter Assembly, Tome Scour, and many other cards, that even if combined, didn't make up for the gas it took to get there. I love playing Magic, and I'd happily come here and play for free given the atmosphere is nice, but their prize payout leaves much to be desired. I'll definitely come back because it seems like there's a few people who play the new Star Wars Miniatures game, which seems fun. Played a few games here over the years. Great place. Parking is no problem. Staff is super friendly and not pushy at all about selling you stuff, Lots of room and tables to play games. If you haven't been here before it's kind of a combination game store, game space, comic book store. They sell drinks and snacks here, which I like to buy to support the store. Drinks are very reasonable at $1.00. They are even cool with you ordering out for pizza. Usually open until 11 pm, which is great. They do have a calendar of events with certain games like Magic The Gathering on certain nights. read more

This place is great. A good look for Burbank and a haven for game players, nerds and comic book readers. The only thing I have issue with is there back issue shelves. They are so stuffed in there that it is impossible to finger thru any. Squished like a bug under your shoe. Other than that, the staff are cool, attentive and informative. I never felt "watched", although I did have an employee ask if I needed assistance, and I did. I have experienced other comic book store employees having elitist 'tude and be assholes; you wont find that here. read more

Wow! The games here make "Clue" look like a kiddie game. Well, it is a kiddie game, but that's not the point. Emerald Knights sells complex, involving games you can lose yourself in for hours. If you want to try a game out, bring a few friends and ask if there's a store copy. Maybe you're not sure what new game is best for you - Ask the incredibly friendly, helpful staff. Today there was a group of gamers who had taken over the top floor. I was made to feel welcome and was introduced to 5 new, great games, from easy card games to difficult board games.
