I don't know much about Thai food, but I know if I like it or not. I didn't see Drunken Noodle on the menu, but I asked and they said they could do it. I asked for spicy and they did great in that respect. The dish wasn't as good as what I've gotten from other places. I even checked previous pictures to confirm. For one thing, the noodles weren't cooked thoroughly. For another thing, when I'd finished my last bite, I could have eaten more. That hasn't happened at other places. read more

Ordered a few different items on the list and they all were quite bad. Everything was way over cooked (chicken shriveled and dry, vegetables mushy), the Satay sauce was "off". Food was edible but simply looked and tasted like old food that's been reheated. I would not recommend this place for Thai food or food in general. To be fair, maybe the fact I ordered carry out may have had an influence on how bad it was. Price was average for the area and type of food. Best Thai food around and prices are very reasonable. We especially like the pepper steak, pad prik and emerald curry. Food can be very spicy so ask for mild unless you want some heat. Sadly they can only provide takeout at this time. Great value. read more

The place right when you enter is not as appealing as I would like it to be. When I went to wash my hands it didn't seem to be the cleanest either. The flavor of my sweet and sour chicken wasn't really good. The chicken was dry. It is cheap so you may get what you pay for, not 100% quality flavorful dishes but ok food. read more

If you are looking for the most authentic Thai cuisine in Memphis then look no further. Emerald Thai, which used to be located on Mt. Moriah, offers the very best. The signature Pad Thai is full of flavor and second to none. Other items that are a must are the chicken wings, pineapple and chicken fried rice and the papaya salad. Favorite Thai restaurant, period. They serve my favorite fried rice of all time - a spicy chicken fried rice. I like spicy and ask them to zip it up a little - not sure if they add more spice but it always has a nice burn. A side benefit - it's too hot for my wife and kids, so they never eat my leftovers ! Their pad Thai is the best I've tried, my kids are spoiled on it and never care much for any else's version. Coconut curry soup with rice is awesome too. Very good solid authentic Thai food. We just moved here from Chicago about six months ago and we are always looking for some good ethnic food. In Chicago we could easily find Thai food or Japanese food or Italian food or Mexican food etc etc. You name it...it was available. So we were very pleased to find Emerald Thai. The papaya salad was authentic and delicious. We also had chicken satay and a couple of curry dishes. All excellent as well. One note, if you are ordering spicy food please notice things are Thai spicy. So even medium is pretty hot so be very cautious if you like stuff hot, mild will still probably do it. They also have a pretty decent selection of beer and it is inexpensive. If you want wine you can bring your home there is a $5 corkage fee. Also totally worth it. We will be back for sure. read more

This place is honestly the best in town. No, the best I've had in any city I've ever been to, eat coast, west coast, anywhere. THE BEST. My family goes here regularly. The prices are amazing (someone said overpriced?? NO. You can easily feed two people for the mass of food they give you for one meal. I always have lots of leftovers), the food is soooooo GOOOOODDDDD. I'm not exaggerating. I've had a dozen or more things on the menu and they have always been just the best tasting food around. Overall, the food was tasty, but the prices are a little high for the portion sizes. The Thai tea is $4, and the fresh spring rolls are $6.75. We got the pad Thai, golden yellow curry, and spring rolls (fresh and fried). Fair warning: if you request medium spice, it is pretty spicy, but not intolerable. It is still the BEST restaurant for Thai food. The change in location has not changed anything except the menu card design, restaurant size and the distance. You can try anything from menu. Almost everything tastes wonderful. My favorites: 1.) papaya pog pog (salad): Ask them to make it thai hot with fish sauce. It is awesomely hot and you will need thai tea to get rid of that heat. My experience at The Emerald Thai Restaurant was equally as underwhelming as my experience at Noodle Star Restaurant in Bartlett. I don't know what it is about Thai Restaurants in the Memphis region, but I am 0 for 2 on dining experiences. Admittedly, I am not an expert on Thai food, and only ever get one or two offerings -- so my palate is certainly not as diversified as other diners in this particular cuisine; but regardless, this fell waaaay short for me. Food: I am a serious Pad Thai fan. Meaning, when I go to a Thai Restaurant, that is what I order. As such, I have had Pad Thai (literally) hundreds of times. I did not enjoy this one at all. In the past, the aspects of Pad Thai that I have loved the most were its consistency, flavor, and freshness. At Emerald Thai, for me, the noodles seemed dry and clumpy like there was far too little sauce. The delicious peanuty flavor that I love was nearly non-existent. It was a lot more subtle of a flavor than I like. Worst, the chicken ( and I know chicken!) was dry as a bone. It literally tasted like Pad Thai that had been reheated in the microwave. Those who I dined with were also disappointed in their meals. They had the Pad Khing and the Pad See Elw (I believe). Both of those dishes came out much better 'dressed' than my heaping pile of under-sauced noodles, but they said that the flavor was not good. They followed that up by saying the flavor wasn't bad either, but that it was something they could recreate in their own kitchen buying bottled ingredients from the International Section at the grocery store. I agree with that analysis. One of those who I dined with lives in NYC and regularly eats Thai, and I trust her opinion of the cuisine. On a high-note, the Fresh Spring Rolls were excellent with the Plum Sauce. Extremely fresh, bright flavors accentuated with a lovely and subtle plum sauce that heightened the overall flavor of the meal. I would consider coming back for these, but since I can get a good Fresh Spring Roll anywhere, I would likely opt to go somewhere that I at least sort-of enjoy the other food as well. Food: 2 / 5 Service: Service was friendly, but hurried. Admittedly, I have never received particular outstanding service at a Thai restaurant, so it may be just the way service is. I felt less like a person here, and more like just another customer. I like to feel some sort of connection / appreciation for choosing their restaurant over the hundreds of others in a 10 mile radius. I didn't feel very valued, and I don't dine where I feel like 'just another customer'. Service: 2 / 5 Atmosphere: The atmosphere to me was drab, bland, uninspired, and a little dreary. Despite that, it was clean and smelled great -- which is something very important to me. Atmosphere: 3 / 5 Price: For what I got, which was food I didn't really enjoy and service that was underwhelming -- I don't believe that I got my money's worth. This disappoints me. Price: 2 / 5 Final Thoughts: Like I alluded to in my introduction, I am now 0 for 2 at two very highly rated Thai restaurants in the Memphis region. Maybe I have been eating a different style of Thai food my whole life, or maybe I do not know what Thai food is, or maybe I have been ordering the wrong thing when I go out for Thai; but I never had this problem in San Antonio or Central NY. Regardless, I would not return here, and will likely refrain from dining at any other Thai restaurants in the Memphis area, indefinitely. read more

2nd worst Thai food place I've ever been to. Thai Spring Rolls ok....I'd eat them again. Place needs deep cleaning. Table cloth had old dry food on it. Waitress was kind...but never checked on us to see if it was good, etc. Husband had Pad Thai and he said it was ok...but wouldn't eat it again. Overall....NOT good. A great little restaurant. Go and go hungry. But don't go if you're in a hurry. The prices are very reasonable and I really loved the food. The service....well... not so much. I went for lunch with family and even though there were just a couple of other occupied tables, it took forever for our food to come out. I will say it was definitely worth the wait, but I was glad I didn't have anywhere I had to be. The spring rolls were excellent and very fresh, and I simply LOVED the soup. The prices were very reasonable too. I plan to go back for dinner soon, and will take a bottle of wine with me. They don't serve alcohol so it's BYOB, I"m all for that though since it's a great way to save a few bucks. And at least I can sip on some nice vino while I settle in for the long wait. The service here sucks. I wish there was a better way to describe it. My wife and I stopped in here for lunch and immediately upon entering it reeked of mothballs. That should have been our first clue, but we figured it must have been some sort of cleaning agent and the place appeared clean so we sat down. We were shown the lunch menu as well as he regular menu. Surprisingly, Pad Thai is not a lunch special despite being one of the most popular Thai dishes. We were told it was due to cost. We ordered a chicken satay and 2 beef pad thai's. We waited 15 minutes, and the waitress said our Pad Thai would be right out. We asked about our chicken satay appetizer, and she said that will be another 20 minutes. Say what?!? I politely informed the waitress that we wanted the satay first, and I was told the grill was slow. So she told us she would bring it out later. I asked to cancel the satay order. Our Pad Thai was delivered shortly thereafter, and it was nothing to write home about. I am not sure why Memphis cannot seem to have a good Thai Restaurant. Most of the pad thai in this city is too dry, and the rest either lack sufficient flavor or just tastes like the sauce was gooped on the noodles as opposed to carefully sautéed. Husband and I were both craving some Thai food and we tried the one in downtown a while back that we weren't impressed. Therefore, I was looking for another suggestion from Yelp. We drove about half hour to go to the Emerald Thai at lakeland. It is a family owned restaurant. We ordered a papaya salad with spicy level and the waitress warned us about the fish sauce. Probably a lot ppl complained in the past. However, thai food require fish sauce and they even put in their thai tea. We told her the fish sauce was fine that we had no issue regardless. She took the rest of the orders and we were just waiting for our food. Overall experience, the food were alright, nothing special. After we asked for the check and it was nice she brought the machine with her. However, we were being asked "how much tip" want to be included before I could even sign off the bill. All that while she stands right next to me side by side and just uncomfortable. First time i was in a restaurant being asked "how much tip" to be included especially while dining in. read more

We've made the huge mistake of driving past this incredible little gem too many times. Thankfully, tonight we decided to give it a try. We were looking for something different than the NORM and decided to try out this place. OMG! It was incredible. My husband and I split an order of the Thai Spring Rolls, shrimp coconut soup (I can't remember the name of the soup) and an order of Pad Thai and everything was awesome. The spring rolls were filled with the flavors of shrimp, lemongrass and fresh vegetables that favorably melded to create a crisp fresh crunch with each bite. The SPICIEST papaya salad that I've ever had. And not the kind of spicy where it's so good that you just keep eating: the kind of spicy where you actually have to stop to drink water, order a Thai iced tea, or chew on ice to get rid of the burn just so that you can continue enjoying it. It was unbelievable that I could enjoy that much spice, but I did. If you want to take on this self-proposed food challenge, you can opt out of the fish sauce that's included. So good! Absolutely loved this place! I visited yesterday for a quick dinner and was just surprised by how delicious my meal was. I haven't had high hopes for Thai food in Memphis because all that I've had has been just okay. My meal last night left me wanting more and wishing I lived closer to this restaurant. The place was clean and spacious. The ladies who were working were very friendly and even brought out extra peppers for one of our dishes so we could make it EXTRA spicy! I have been coming to the Emerald Thai for decades now. It used to be on Mt Moriah rd. I can't say for sure how authentic it is but it sure is good. I can't name a dish that I've had that was bad. How good can a strip mall Thai place be?! SO GOOD! Went with my husband today for a lunch date and while he may have been so-so about what he ordered....Mine was incredible. Kao Pun (#51) is a red curry soup with traditional Asian noodles. OMG it was amazing! You can get meat but I opted for no meat and no bamboo shoots. Creamy and rich and delicious with fresh carrots cabbage, cilantro, cucumbers and perfectly cooked noodles with a heat that gradually builds to the perfect spiciness. It's a large bowl and we loved it so much we ordered a side of steamed rice, dumped it in there and kept eating (since the noodles were already gone). I have a real difficulty choosing either noodles or a curry at Thai places. Before this I had no idea a hybrid of both existed. I'm in heaven. Will probably order takeout once a week now. read more

Tom Yum soup is one of my favorite things to eat on the planet. Emerald makes a spectacular one. It is super spicy and perfectly balanced. While there, also get one of their curries. If you feel like walking on the wild side, tell them you like things extra spicy. Fair warning, when they say extra spicy they don't mean your typical extra spicy. They mean nose running, face sweating, can barely breathe spicy. In other words, amazing. The food is delicious. I got the Steamed Dumplings and the Pad Prik with chicken. Both were very good and appropriately spicy. Note if you order something hot here, it will be hot. The one thing that keeps them from a 5 star review is the speed of service. I understand waiting for good food, but we had to wait 15 minutes to order our food. I watched one couple next to us give up and walk out. We were nearly at that point ourselves when she took our order. Overall I'd recommend them for good Thai good. Best. Thai. Ever. I was in town just for the weekend and I'm so happy this was one of the places I visited. I want to go back even though its 9 hours from where I live just for this place! I had the Kao Soi Noodle and it was perfection!!! Large portion, just the right amount of flavor and spice, came with gret crispy noodles. It is definitely one of the best Thai places I've ever been.
