The demo and installation phase went incredibly smoothly and was on time. The installers are all excellent at their jobs, from the technical side to clear and professional communications. The project wrapped up with a walk through a few weeks after completion to make sure everything worked well, which I appreciated. Most importantly, I went from a house that had lots of spots with no cooling to my new HVAC system now cooking the entire 1,600sf house equally and quietly. This is a long-overdue review: in the winter of 2023, emeraldECO installed a heat pump water heater in my garage (replacing a 10-year-old gas heater) and upgraded the electrical supply in my kitchen to be ready for the induction range I hope to install someday soon. The project went in two stages: one day, the electrical crew arrived and took care of the kitchen, and also replaced the shoddy job on the electrical subpanel done by the rooftop solar vendor the year before. The second stage was the arrival of the plumbing crew, who came to remove and dispose of the old water heater and install the new one. In both cases, the crews were highly professional, amiable, and careful about leaving my home clean. The price for their work was reasonable--especially if one considers that they made a convincing argument that I didn't need to upgrade my electrical panel, saving me thousands of dollars. And, as promised, the impact on my electrical bill has been negligible, while my gas usage has been reduced to pennies per day. read more

We had an outstanding experience with Eric and his team. In the last year, we used Eric to create a plan to completely electrify our house (getting off of gas), and then managed the work over several phases (making sure we were happy with one phase before hiring him for the next phase). In total, he managed installation of 2 heat pumps to replace our old HVAC system, induction cooktop to replace gas stove, heat pump water heater to replace gas water heater, as well as all the electrical work (new panel). They also managed all the city permits for us, and made sure we got all the credits (checks just kept showing up from various rebate programs which was really nice to offset some of the costs!). Eric is very knowledge and seems mission driven to help people go green, not just trying to make a buck. They offered us a range of options, even discouraged us from some more expensive ideas that we were considering. Eric also had some design suggestions for the HVAC contractor which ended up being brilliant and significantly improved the temperature balance across our house - something that many previous HVAC folks had never managed to fix for us. So we ended greener but also more comfortable too as a bonus! Last thing I'd say is that they have been very responsive even after the job was done and we had paid them. When our water heater started acting up about a year after the install, Eric showed up early the next morning on a holiday weekend to debug the problem and quickly fix it. I am pleased to write this review of emeraldECO, the company that provides services that can convert a current home to efficient electric. I chose emeraldECO to convert my house to all electric for several reasons. I wanted a company that was qualified to plan and execute installation of an upgraded electrical panel, removal of my gas central heat and gas hot water heater, install heat pump HVAC and a heat pump water heater, as well as solar panels and backup storage batteries. After checking with several other services, I found that most were unable to do all of these but could only do one or two of them. This meant that I would need to coordinate several contractors to finish the job. In addition, it was clear that Eric and Diane Sweet, the owners of emeraldECO were the most knowledgeable people I had contacted to do this work, were able to recommend equipment that would best meet my needs, and coordinate all of it in a timely and efficient way. Their planning and pricing were clear and were met at every step of the way. Everyone involved in all aspects of the installations were highly qualified to produce excellent work and quickly responded to any questions or concerns. Emeraldeco installed our heat pump and set us up for an induction oven in April of 2023. We received exceptional service. Eco even identified a problem in our wiring that we were not aware. We hired EmeraldECO in summer 2023 to replace both our gas furnace and gas water heater with electric heat pumps. Although their quote was higher than the others we received, we selected them because of their responsiveness and their creative solution to locating the outdoor air exchange for the heat pump HVAC. We have been extremely pleased working with Diane, Eric, and their HVAC and water heater teams. They answered our many questions before, during, and after installation, and were clear about timing and scheduling - what was happening on what day. Their follow up was exceptional as well - standing by their work and making sure we were happy with our new systems. The on-site crews were pleasant and made sure to tidy up at the end of each day. Overall, this was a great experience for us and we recommend them highly. I can only guess that there must be some confusion with the 1-star review for this company, because our experience with Eric has been nothing but positive. Wanting to make our house as "green" as possible, which included addressing hot and cold spots throughout the house, reducing wasted water and improving indoor air quality, we hired emeraldECO to manage the complex design and installation of a comprehensive solution. In sum, we're now completely electric with zero carbon emissions (except for our gas stove that will be replaced shortly). Working closely with us, Eric and Diane developed a comprehensive outline for the project according to our specific needs, which featured a detailed roadmap for getting our home to all-electric while staying within our budget. Work completed includes: - fixing our recirculation water system (several other contractors had tried unsuccessfully). Our water heater stopped functioning and I called many plumbers in our quest for a heat pump (electric) water heater because I wanted a cleaner, more efficient model than a gas water heater. After much research, I discovered Eric, who gave us a good price on a Rheem (Ruud) model with WiFi controls and rearranged his schedule to bring in a crew the very next morning. It delivered a hot shower just two hours after it was installed. Eric is completing the BayREN training and the city permit for us so that we can qualify for the $1,000 BayREN rebate. If he hadn't been able to deliver our new water heater quickly, he offered to bring in a loaner water heater to tide us over. I can't say enough good things about Eric and EmeraldECO! read more

As a landscape architect working on the renovation of two apt. complexes in Palo Alto, I was asked by the city to obtain a green building special inspector to oversee our installation. Eric's company was on their recommended list. Of the companies I called he was the only one to answer the phone, which I appreciated. I described our needs and reviewed our projects with him. He determined that a special inspector was not required for this type of installation. Though I had not yet hired him as a consultant, he provided me with a lot of information on the green building process, which can be complex. He was helpful and engaged, and stayed with me until all questions were answered. Had we needed a special inspector I definitely would have hired him. read more

Green Inspector from Hell! Do not use this guy maybe it's just our bad luck, but we had a very bad experience dealing with this inspector. First, there's a major conflict of interest. We have to pay him (by the hour) to pass us. So he's got to check off everything to his satisfaction to pass you. Even though we've followed everything he's asked, and he even stated in his e-mail to us that it's all good to go. The day of the final inspection, he decided he didn't want to sign. We're not sure what stunt he was trying to pull, but this little stunt ended up costing us another $3000+ with another city permit, and other fees that was totally unnecessary. The Title 24 company even said that they were surprised about this. Nobody has ever asked for recalculation this late in the process! I mean this is Final inspection, not early or mid project. He demanded some obscure information and documents from Porcelanosa and when we called, they told us nobody has ever requested for information like that. They don't even have such a thing. This shows how unfamiliar/inexperienced he is with these things. We asked him to try calling himself, and of course, he couldn't even get the information himself. However, we're still being charged for his time. The final bill ended up being double what's normal. (our friend did a similar project in the same city at the same time). We demanded a breakdown of how he came up with his charges, and he wouldn't. Even said that he was giving us a break. Even people at the city raises their eyebrow when they hear the name Eric Sweet. So use him at your own risk, but our architect and contractor have blacklisted him and will never use him again. read more

We are so pleased with the improvements Eric recommended and implemented which have made our home both more comfortable and more energy efficient. The switch to LED bulbs throughout the house (especially in overhead cans) has resulted in better quality lighting and lower costs. The biggest win for us was moving/redesigning the heater air return from ceiling to floor level to create better air circulation -- which ultimately led to lower heating costs and happier/warmer home owners! Adding in a "smart" thermostat and turning us on to wifi-enabled switches for outdoor lighting (among other things) were other much-appreciated improvements. EmeraldECO provides an excellent service, well worth the dollars spent! Eric is passionate about the environment and has so much knowledge to share. He gave us a comprehensive overview of our energy consumption as well as an itemized list of our best bets for savings. He was able to help us prioritize this list and implement some key changes. The changes to lighting alone will save us some serious $$. I am very particular about lighting in our home, and he was able to find just the right bulb replacements, saving us money and keeping us from having to change them all the time. Eric built a beautiful new deck for us to replace one that had started to deteriorate. He was able to use some of the existing underlying structure and was able to clearly explain why parts of it had started to fall apart. He was also able to mitigate the issues that caused the problems in the first place, so this new deck should last much longer than the original. He talked a lot about the pros and cons of different kinds of wood we could use, and we settled on Forest Stewardship Council Redwood, which is properly managed and harvested, reusable, and eventually compostable. Eric and Tim carefully selected the boards and paid very careful attention to how they looked next to each other which is one of the reasons it looks so great. Another reason is the abundant detail work - in fact a contractor friend asked if i got a cabinet maker to build our deck. He even rerouted and upgraded part of our watering system that had been running under the deck stairs, and had some great suggestions for ways we could improve it even more. On top of everything, the cost was very reasonable and he was incredibly responsive through the whole job. Eric is definitely the first person we'd call for any new projects we have. read more
