Foundation Repair of CA (FRC) is the most disreputable, dishonest company I've ever encountered. I…read morehired them because I didn't want to hire the lowest bidder for a change, and I regret it. I wouldn't sign the contract when told I'd have to do my own masonry repair until sales agent Jesse Marquez showed me FRC corporate material that indicated the brick facade would be removed with a masonry saw, in an approximate 2x2' square. That was false and deceptive advertising. This is what they did to my house. No masonry saw was used, only impact drills, which act as small jackhammers. FRC significantly damaged the entire brick facade, adjacent areas showed extensive cracking, entire areas had the brick facade knocked completely off the house, and the wall foundation was separated from the brick wall entirely. I told the work crew, headed by Luis, to stop using impact wrenches on the bricks immediately, then told them TWICE. Not only did they not stop, despite direct STOP work orders, they then took all of the bricks they'd destroyed, which legally is theft, called conveyance. Jesse Marquez explained that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned the bricks after Jesse Marquez called, ignoring my several phone calls and texts. Jesse texted that the bricks were so old they'd shattered. Luis returned them, none were shattered, all were broken by the impact drills. Luis confirmed, texting that the bricks were "broken". They took the bricks to hide the damage. The day FRC received my Contractor's State Licensing Board complaint, FRC messaged that someone would come to assess the damage for repairs, and FRC would repair the masonry they'd destroyed. They first sent Robert Pagan, who acknowledged both that there were no masonry saw marks, and that the damage was excessive. According to FRC, Jesse stated Robert hadn't said this. It wasn't until I pointed out he'd said it while standing in front of a Ring camera did that lie die. FRC then sent Troy Knight, who acknowledged the same, and stated he was there to help, and would see that the masonry was repaired and more. I have several texts, voicemails and emails from FRC stating they will complete the job. They never did. FRC employee Mike Crites was sent to perform the repairs. He returned the following week with the wrong sized bricks in the wrong color, and proceeded to do more damage. This is the work that they did. FRC employee Mike Crites initially stated that he had retired as a mason, he later revised that statement, saying he'd only worked with pavers and concrete. The work performed was so substandard, FRC sent Jovincio, who was the only honest person in my entire dealings with FRC. Jovencio said he wasn't a mason, but had "some training". Jovencio replaced the work done by Mike Crites. This is Mike's effort, and Jovincio's replacement work. The work performed is clearly substandard and unacceptable. FRC acknowledged the workers sent lacked the skills, training and necessary certifications to perform masonry repairs. When I requested that FRC send a mason, and included photos of the work, FRC responded that they'd done me a favor; the workers sent were a courtesy. The very clause they'd ignored (and invalidated) by removing the bricks was cited. That they would do no more, leaving me with the bill for their damage. This is what they left. I obtained a second quote to repair the deficient masonry 'work' FRC workers had done - without a REQUIRED permit, with no mortar pins, odd-sized and broken bricks mortared in randomly, mortar lines that range from non-existent to more than an inch. Crites' also removed the brick facade foundation in several sections, replacing it with sloppy concrete. This is a code-violating 'repair' that is neither plumb nor square. The legitimate mason company from whom I obtained a repair quote updated the quote, which has nearly doubled BECAUSE of the 'repairs' performed by the unqualified FRC employees. FRC called this doing me a favor, saying the inept crew was sent as a 'courtesy'. This is not doing me a favor, this is not a courtesy, this is at best fraud. After signing the contract (under false pretenses), Jesse insisted I needed an additional pier ($3,155) because piers can no longer be placed under a window. A pier was placed under the window. Two other piers were not placed according to the county approved structural engineering ($1,850) diagram. Half the piers were installed in the wrong places, apparently according to Luis' whims. Yesterday Groundworks gave an estimate on properly placing those piers. That's how I learned that the improperly placed piers had lifted a joist completely off its foundation supports. This, too, will require additional expense to correct, before it damages my house - literally to the roof. I should have stuck with Groundworks. This is your cautionary tale - no one who values integrity, ESPECIALLY senior women, shouldn't hire FRC.

Ramon checked in with me at different points in the installation to give me the chance to see the work in progress, point out factors impacting the installation process (e.g., removal of tree roots), and did a thorough walkthrough afterwards and provided me with the post-work elevations for documentation. Wore shoe coverings in the house and laid out work paper to avoid tracking dust/dirt. Ramon also pointed out that they did not end up needing to do some work that was in the original estimate and so put in a change order to reduce my invoice / get a refund. My exposure to CAWC's work is indirect in the way that I have worked in a project that CAWC…read morere-coated, but more importantly, I am a unit owner in an HOA that CAWC was contracted to recoat and waterproof. My review is mainly based on the latter project, during which I also met one of the co-owners (Roy), as I was the project chair for some of the work performed on the community. The project was managed by Casey from Ferrari-Moe LLP. Bottom line is that CAWC's attention to detail is lacking big time. It may be that the waterproofing work they perform is long lasting (only time can tell), but the paint work they perform is underaverage. More importantly, they cause their own problems in a way that they mess up freshly painted surfaces, which means, it is better than before, but less than average work in the end. In addition, keeping schedule is not their strong suit, either, while I cannot speak to their budget keeping, since I was not involved in the budgeting of the project or work. Speaking to the co-owner (Roy) on more than one occassion, it is clear that he is interested in big projects and "keeping the assembly line running". Blemishes (minor or not so) are put on a "punch list", which grows quickly, but is not tackled swiftly, while there will be a lot of argueing over each item. In this context, employing Ferrari-Moe to manage this project did not seem to help, either. If you are a private property owner, I recommend looking for a different company to waterproof your house, assuming you care for your home. I am looking at CAWC's work every time I leave my unit now and I am reminded every time that I would not have called them to work on my house.

His approach seemed reasonable to me and much more cost effective. I also told him I had a very tight timeline because I needed to have the deck ready for an upcoming party. Carlos and he team started right away and with minimal input needed from me throughout the project, it was completed very quickly - on time and on budget. I'd alway recommend that people check with several companies before selecting a vendor, but if you are looking to repair or replace your deck, make sure your first call is to Carlos at Total Wood Preservation!

I am a first time home owner and first thing I know I have to rebuild this retaining wall. Daunting. I have a spreadsheet with 30+ contractors. Probably a dozen came for a site visit. There were only 3 that I considered hiring - I chose Jay. Why? During our first phone conversation he asked all the right question about the job. His first site visit lasted 1.5 hours. He looked at every detail which gave me the confidence that he knows his stuff. I did hire him and I am extremely happy with how the job went. Jay worked with my structural engineer to finalize the drawings. His careful planning avoid multiple potential pitfalls. He did complete the project exactly in the predicted time frame. Actually faster considering that I had him do some extra work. He was pretty much on budget, any extra cost he did predict very well. His whole crew was great and accommodated all my requests. Throughout the project he kept me up to date on the progress, next steps, schedule, etc. I hope I never have to build another retaining wall. We needed to have the foundations under our duplex seismically retrofitted. The structure was built in 1924. Our HOA was responsible for making the decision as as to who would do the work, and we contacted 5+ contractors who specifically focused on doing foundation work in our area. Jay at Heavywood submitted a bid that was reasonable, and he also answered all of our questions regarding the size and nature of the work that needed to be done. We could tell that he has been doing foundation work for a long time given his breadth of knowledge about our area. The HOA agreed to go with Heavywood, and once we scheduled the work with Jay, he completed it on time and on budget.
