honestly my dog gets into a lot of stuff and eats things when we're not looking or even leave her home alone. i have brought my dog here a number of times for eating things. there were times they suggested we call poison control and other times they just told us to come in. and tonight she ate 2 bags of candy and they told us to call poison control and we chose not to and called the emergancy vet services back and said we wanted to take her in to get her stomach pumped and they said no and that we more fed a case number... i don't understand why sometimes they need a case number for poisonous food and other times they don't. this is b s go else where. read more

I brought my parakeet in because he was bleeding. When I first called I was told "Well you know it's a $95 emergency visit" I went anyway and they did not take me right away because dogs were coming in too. During exam I was shown a laceration that I was told needed to be stitched; I said to do it and after the procedure; I was called in the office to hear "look at the good job I did stitching his wing; but he just died.... do you want to hold him?" End result.....dead bird $226!! Would definitely not recommend. read more

The vet on call the night we brought in our cat was cold, disengaged, and snapped at us. It is sad Yelp is so one-sided. Woke up this fine Memorial Day with two dogs that still had diarrhea from the weekend and it started to worry me that it was not diet related as a bland diet and OTC meds were not doing a thing. Called and someone answered on the first ring. We got in around 8am and Dr. Otto was super nice. He talked us through everything and made sure to explain the shots the dogs would get and the meds that would be prescribed. I don't think we could have made it through the day without the shots and meds and we are very thankful that this office was open today. We appreciate the level of service and friendliness. So glad we had another option for an ER vet because I really did not want to go to VCA where everything is very much a over-priced corporate structure. read more

If your looking for a vet that actually cares about your pet dont go here. Its a churn and send you out the door service. They refuse to do any kind of diagnostic testing or do anything that requires more than a quick in and out thing for them. They treated my cat with a simple rememdy then pushed us out the door when the cat should have been hospitlized. When I called them back a couple of days later they refused to take the cat again citing it was too much time and money to "deal" with my cat. It was completely mind blowing since they had no problem taking $250 for doing nothing the first time. And I agree with the other reviews the front desk was rude when I tried to ask questions then they told me the "manager" would call me back which of course they never did. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE. My wife and I had a horrible experience at Emergency Veterinary Services. First off, this is the only business in Illinois that seems to have forgotten that half the population is vaccinated. They had their doors closed and a parking lot filled with people who couldn't enter the building to be with their sick animals. We rushed our dog to the vet after she started coughing, gagging, and vomiting. After waiting for over an hour in the parking lot the Vet called my wife and asked her to look up our dog's symptoms on Youtube. You can't make this up. The doctor wasn't sure if our dog was "coughing or gagging" and wanted my wife to make this determination for her on YOUTUBE! There was no "your dog will be ok" or "we understand how stressful this is" or "thank you for your patience" or "this is what we think is going on and oh by the way your dog will survive!", just a request for us to look up symptoms on youtube! WHAT A JOKE. Our dog had been coughing, gagging & vomiting every 2 minutes on the car ride to the vet, and somehow, magically, upon arrival, the vet didn't notice what was wrong with our dog. After my wife told me what was going on, I called the front desk and they proceeded to tell me that our dog was somehow now 3rd in line (again) and that she wouldn't get an actual diagnosis until she was examined AGAIN in a few hours. The receptionist then told us for the first time that our dog had vomited in front of the vet!!!! The Vet didn't say a word to us about this when she called earlier! I understand that there are critical and non-critical cases and the Vet deemed our case to be Non-critical (hence the wait time) but a word of advice to this place, don't ask your patients to do your job for you and have a little empathy! I didn't take my dog to the emergency vet to get a lesson in how to look up symptoms online! After paying the $120 dollar exam fee (for nothing!) we asked that they bring our dog out to the parking lot so we could take her elsewhere. I was then met at the front door by Dr Graves (or one of Dr. Graves vet techs) who snapped at me, exclaiming that they have already rushed the appointment enough and they can't "rush it anymore". She then slammed the front door in my face and walked inside. THIS WAS AFTER I PAID $120 FOR A VET TO TELL US TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH OUR DOG BY LOOKING IT UP ON YOUTUBE (no diagnosis, no prescription, nothing!) Word of advice to anyone with a sick animal, do not take them here! There are other emergency vet hospitals within a reasonable distance that take pride in what they do and will treat you and your animal with respect! read more

One of the worst days of our lives, but thankfully we received excellent care from Dr Smith and the staff. We brought our beloved Darby dog in because he was lethargic and breathing very quickly. Dr Smith listened to our observations, and carefully checked Darby's vitals. They ran the blood work and Dr Smith compassionately gave us the results and our options. We contacted our trusted veterinarian, Dr Kuhn, and he agreed with the options. They never rushed us to make a decision and let us go outside for a few hours while we talked as a family and got to say our good-byes. They were so caring and let Darby pass away outside in the grass where he was most comfortable. As heartbroken as we are, we know Dr Smith is knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. I can't say enough about how pleased I was with my first visit here. Professional courteous staff that cares more about you sick animal then about building a huge bill. Dr Otto was great with my 10 week old puppy Rosie who suddenly developed kennel cough. Something I have never experienced in all my years of sharing my life with pets. The sound is just awful. But Dr Otto assured me with medication and rest Rosie will soon be good as new. This is the friendliest emergency vet office (both personally and on the wallet) that I have ever been too. It is comforting to know I have finally found somewhere to go with a sick pet when our regular doctors are not in the office. I will have no problem going back if the need arises. We visited EVS for the first time last night with our cat Henry who had three vomiting episodes in the evening. Upon entering the clinic I was impressed that the facility did not smell like the typical veterinarian office. The doctor on staff, Dr. Amy Smith, listened as we explained Henry's predicament and then explained the steps she would take to help Henry. This included bloodwork and x-rays. Henry was also rehydrated and sent home with cans of special cat food. The bloodwork was being sent to a special lab and Dr. Smith will call us shortly with the results. We were never pressured into any unnecessary tests for Henry and I loved Dr. Smith's bedside manner. read more

Emergency Veterinary Services is a caring, compassionate, professional organization with high service standards. We took our American Bulldog there one night recently due to a broken toenail that was causing him quite a bit of pain. They treated him quickly and efficiently. What had been an "Oh no!" nighttime emergency situation was taken care of in minutes, so that we and our dog could go on about our evening and get a good night's rest. They provided antibiotics and pain meds to assure a good recovery. Throughout, they treated us and our dog with respect and caring. It's clear that they love animals. Great job! read more

Our dog split himself wide open sprinting across a fallen limb. It was a deep wound 7 inches long and all the way to the breast bone for a portion of that. He had emergency surgery around 6 pm. The surgeon had left for the evening and turned around and came right back to operate. They stitched him up, put a drain in and monitored him for 24 hours. I was grateful that first night for the 24 hour care they had on hand. The drain came out several days later and then, the wound continued to leak. It was weeks before he could run again. But, he made a full recovery. Yes, it's expensive, which almost made me remove one star. But, our regular vet didn't even want to tackle this surgery. We went there first, where they cleaned the wound and sent us here, knowing he'd need 24 hour care. Other seriously injured and sick dogs are treated here and not all make a recovery. So yes, it can be a sad place while you're waiting. But, I was glad they were close by, had 24 hour care and had a skilled surgeon to rescue our dog. read more

My sweet, beautiful English Springer Spaniel had lung cancer and was in the final stages. She was scheduled for at home euthanasia on Sunday as she was unable to eat anymore. Just yesterday morning at 3:30 AM (the Friday before the scheduled appt.) she woke up having seizures and we thought she was going to die before our eyes. It was an awful experience. Thank goodness my son was with me that night with his kids as my husband was out of town or I would have been completely alone. I had to rush her to the Emergency Vet to be put out of her misery. Dr. Christen Bolotov was the vet who helped me get through it. She was so kind and compassionate. She stayed with me for about 1/2 hour afterwards because I was so upset and alone. I will never forget her kindness at one of the most difficult times in my life. read more

I know what it's like to make visits to pet facilities that do not turn out well and my guess is some of the reviews here are due to the grief one suffers when you lose a pet. This happened to us about 7 years ago and we thought deja vu was striking as of 6 year old calico suffered a seizure at 12:30 AM last Friday night - running wildly - contorted and eventually tumblling down a large flight of stairs. Scenes like that make everyone upset -- so I wildly grabbed the cell phone to find a 24 hour veteranarian....I live in Naperville so this facility was only 20 minutes away. Quite frankly we looked at a few reviews of places and the grief in posts was evident. Our cat had calmed down and regained her faculties ( although slower )- as my wife and daughter took her into the facility. ( we did call first and they were waiting knowing what to expect). They were brought to a room to wait for the vet ( Amy Smith ) - and of course time seems to stand still. They were met courteously - and then the vet proceeded to do a thorough physical examination of our cat-- looking for trauma etc. We were lucky she broke nothing.. she observed her eyes , heart rate etc- and said she was in good shape - no stroke signs etc. She then took blood and ran blood tests while we were there checking for signs of underlying causes ( diabetes,kidney-liver issues etc.)- and lucky for us the bloodwork- which was done in less than 30 minutes also was good. She brought our kitty back to the room wrapped in a blanket to calm her - and explained that it most likely was a seizure -( neurological)- not a stroke. That the cat likely had little rememberance of anything at the height of the attack and that unfortunately seizures like this not uncommon. Explained she could have another tomorrow or not for years - but the good news there was no underlying major cause...could be a one time event. Explained there are drugs to treat, but they have side effects and unless she has another,not to go that direction. She then said they would fax all info over to our regular vet on Monday....and asked if there were any more questions. Throughly professional is the best way to describe the visit with Amy Smith. My college age daughter who is pre med was impressed with her treatment of our cat and us. I would highly recommend this faciltiy - especially in an emergency. We are so glad it was there as an option. And the costs were reasonable as well - during the excitement you don't think of those things but later you will -- a very positive experience overall and lucky the outcome has been positive. read more

So my cat can't seem to have issues during normal vet hours. We recently moved to the area and our regular vet is in Geneva anyway. Loki wasn't peeing normally and soiled his bed. We were thinking about waiting till Tuesday to take him in to the regular vet. After some internet research I decided to call EVS to see what they thought. Due to a potential complete blockage which can be deadly, we took him in. For emergency services I found the cost extremely reasonable. 95 dollars for the exam and then all diagnostics and treatment was comparable to a normal day time vet visit. I was pleased with both techs that were there and the vet that saw my cat. For having to go to the emergency vet it was an "enjoyable" experience. read more

The emergency services for pets is great! I took my cat there yesterday because he wasn't feeling well and I found out that he was constipated. And they had to stick an enema in his behind. And he was back to his normal self. And we got to pick him up later that night. Recommend this to all!!! read more

Wow, so I've had dogs all my life, rarely do we ever have to go to vets unless it's a checkup or for my older dog but who is deceased now. I always take really, really good care of my dogs, but today, I gave My dog a greenies(a dog treat that's used to clean their teeth) and she got sick and was crying nonstop, well I go on cheweys site and there's like 10 people saying they're dogs got sick after taking it and they had really bad gas and it tore up their stomachs . So I call lisle emergency vet services just to ask some questions about how can tell if it's gas or not. Cuz if it's gas, why would I go in? She gives me some advice Nd she's like well if you come in it'll be $200 and I thought about it, then we talked a little more and she turns the price into $300-$400 but more towards $400!! I'm like ok so what if it's just gas I still have to pay $400.00??? She said yeah smh. See this is the thing I hate about doctors and vets, they claim they wanna help animals but in all in the end they just want your money. Not saying ALL They don't care if your dog dies or not. Tell me how did she go from $200-$400 in a matter of minutes. I get it you guys need to make money but would your really charge me $400 dollars to tell me if my dog has gas or not? Lol I'm never calling this place again, y'all don't wanna save animals y'all just wanna screw people out of money! Don't trust these people at all read more

When our 6 year old beagle decided to eat a full pound of Fannie May dark chocolate on a Friday night, our regular vet recommended this facility. We drove the dog over right away, and were taken care of almost immediately. Ashley and Dr. Bascharon were very thorough, fast-acting, and helpful. Dr. Bascharon walked us through each step of treatment the dog would receive, and was very gentle & kind with him. I am happy to say our dog is 100% back to normal thanks to the caring staff here. My brother and I live in Joliet and love this place. This is the best emergency vet possible, the care here is phenomenal. I've taken my personal pets here for quite a while, most recently back in April after my chihuahua took a bad tumble off the bed. He broke four metacarpals, Dr. Amy Smith took the absolute best care possible of him. My regular vet was so extremely impressed with how great of a job she did setting the bones and splinting his leg also. When my brothers cat was acting funny my brother tried to take to Plainfield Care Center who were not very friendly, he texted me and I told him about EVS. His cat Mouse was hospitalized and diagnosed with FLUTD and with how hard and full his bladder was they quite literally saved his life. EVS never made either of us feel like we were bothering them when calling for updates, they always treated us with the utmost care and compassion. Mouse is now home and doing well on his new prescription food and my brother even said he was so thankful I told him about this place after seeing how thorough they were on his medical records and with how kind they were to him through this scary time. Dr. Amy Smith and Dr. Amy Goodnow are great vets and people. My only complaint is that they don't have a regular practice for me to go to because I would 100% trust them to take care of all my babies' care, emergent or not. Lol. Thanks EVS, I hope my pets stay healthy so I don't have to see you, but if they do need to come in, I know you'll give them the most skilled and compassionate care possible. read more

Emergency Veterinary Services has been there for my pets with both happy and tragic outcomes. They handle both with professionalism and compassion. From the time my dog ate something bad (pass the stomach pump, please) to when my 17-year-old cat made her final vet visit, we have been very pleased with the vets and staff. There is always a follow-up call to see how the pets are doing, and the prices are reasonable. On the visit that every pet owner dreads - and I was not expecting to have to do it quite yet - we were treated with gentleness. Our cat was euthanized with care, wrapped in blankets, and she left this world with love. The vets and staff sent us a beautiful handwritten note within a day or so. Unfortunately, I found myself at this location late last night with my family's elderly and ailed dog. There was no question in our mind what we were going to have to do when we walked into this clinic. The front office staff and the veterinarian were exceptionally pleasant and kind. They assured us we were doing the right thing - the humane thing. They handled the entire situation thoughtfully and were genuinely sympathetic. Wednesday was a horrible night. My 17 year old cat was in kidney failure & I could not wait till morning to see my own vet. So I had to go to the Lisle ER Vet Service. I was not looking forward to it as I thought they would be impersonal & businesslike. Boy, was I wrong. After the exam, the decision was made to put her to sleep. Nicole, the vet assistant, was amazingly compassionate & spent a lot if time explaining everything & knowing just when to leave me be. The vet also was so empathetic & calmly put to rest my guilt, making this horrible experience much more bearable. If I were ever in such a situation, I would not even think twice about visiting these kind people. read more

I am writing to say Thank You to Dr. Amy Smith, Jenny and the emergency staff. My 9 yr old Cavalier King Charles ( my baby Chloe) was in respiratory distress, late on a SUNDAY night. She has a history of heart disease and has been receiving treatment. Her condition has changed and she requires a lot more attention now. Late on a Sunday, with no where else to turn we ended up in Lisle. They were amazing from the minute we walked thru the door. They were so compassionate, they listened and immediately jumped into action. We left her there overnight and they helped her thru the emergency. Dr. Smith called me a few days later to check on Chloe. I was able to report we were having some better days. I told her no offense- but I hoped to never see her again, she laughed but understood. Dr Otto and his staff were so sweet to our 15 year old male pug. I brought him in this morning (on a Sunday!) after he had been up all night coughing. He was seen right away and treated with gentle kindness and care. They were able to confirm that he had a bronchial infection but not related to his heart. (common for pugs when they are older) He was given antibiotics and something to calm his coughing. We were so relieved and now he is peacefully sleeping on our couch at home. I am so glad we took him in and didn't wait till Monday. We were given clear instructions for treatment, medicine and a cd of his X rays. I was a little worried about bringing my dog to EVS but when she wouldn't stop vomiting in the middle of the night, but I really didn't have a choice as this is the closest place to me and the only place open at the time. Based on the previous ratings I wasn't sure what to expect, but what I expected certainly wasn't what I got! The doctor was AWESOME! She listened to me attentively when I explained what was going on and seemed to be very thorough in her exam. Granted, I'm no vet so I can't be 100% sure. Turns out Whiskey had pancreatitis that required her to stay overnight from late Friday through till Sunday Morning. The staff was great when I called to get updates on my pooch...and I called...A LOT to check on her. It wasn't until I checked out on Sunday morning that I found out that the doctor I was dealing with was the new owner. If the kindness and professionalism that she demonstrated when dealing with hysterical me and my vomiting dog are any indicator of how this business is going to be run, you are in GREAT hands when you walk in the door. I don't understand how there are so many good reviews for this place. We had the unfortunate experience of having to bring our 13 year old black lab here when she was having trouble breathing. We waited for almost an hour (they weren't even that many people in the waiting room) to be ushered into a room. The vet did not even introduce herself. She slapped the x-ray up on the wall and was very matter-of-fact in telling us that our dog had congestive heart failure. She was rude and acted like it wasn't her problem our dog was dying. We were very confused because it was sudden, and we even had to ask outright, "Can we bring her home?" because it was not made clear. The vet replied, "No. It's a horrible death to die." After that shock, we were given a form and asked what kind of cremation we wanted. We were able to say goodbye, not even privately, just in the lobby, but told we could not hold her while they administered the shot. IF THERE IS ANY WAY YOU CAN AVOID BRINGING YOUR PET HERE, DO IT! They probably don't care how they treat people because they're the only 24 Hour Vet in the western suburbs, but show an ounce of human decency! read more

We had nothing but trouble here. Our dog was misdiagnosed by Dr. Jennifer Woll and she ended up dying because of her stupidity. Our dog had a fever of 106.5 and she told me to take her home and give her a bath. Our regular vet said that was unacceptable for a dog who could barely stand, eat or drink. Our dog defecated on the floor as she laid there, unable to go outside. Dr. Jennifer Woll said she just has the flu bug and will be fine in 24 hours after giving her a shot. 48 hours later our dog died. Do not go here, use Arboretum in Downers Grove, don't learn the hard way like we did. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!! Go to the 24-hour Arboretum Animal Hospital that is less than five minutes up Ogden, off Warrenville Rd. instead, as this place is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. I took my poor dog here in the middle of the night with a seizure, unsure of what to do or how to have him treated. While I was holding my convulsing dog in my arms, the vet tech that was "assisting" me was the rudest, most uncompassionate woman I've ever dealt with in my entire life. When I told her I didn't have much money with me, she scouffed and said, "Okay, an office visit is $95, euthanasia is $200 and it'll be at least $600 to have him treated, what do you want to do with him?" and when I said I didn't even know what the procedure for his illness was, she said, "What do you want me to do about it?" in the snottiest tone of voice one could use in this sort of a situation. I was shocked. I told her I could not afford any of that and she told me there was nothing they could do, when I asked what to do next, she said she couldn't help me and I had to leave -- by the way, no dr. had even seen my dog by this point, or at any point during my visit for that matter. When I asked if I didn't have him treated, would my dog die from this, she said, in her exact words, "What a horrible way to LET your dog die" ... as if I had other options when she had given me none, and as if she had offered to help us in some way when she had not. I was terribly upset as it was, and this woman's attitude, tone, and horrible bed side manner made it ten times worse. My dog was literally dying in my arms and she was so terribly unsympathetic and unempathetic. This woman should NOT be dealing with people who are in an emergency situation, who's emotions running raw, and who are scared. The simple fact that the dr. didn't even speak with me about my dog's condition is sickening and shows that they have no interest in helping people or animals unless they have deep enough pockets to pay with no consideration otherwise. I understand it's a business, and it's there to make money, but c'mon. You're also there to save animals' lives, to help fellow animal lovers, to show compassion and care; not just line your pockets. When I left, the one "nice" thing this woman did was mention that the Arboretum Animal Hospital may be able to help me. Even though she gave me the wrong address for them, I fortunately found them, and they were so unbelievably kind to us. They immediately took my dog out of my arms without talking about money, even after I said I had very little; they stopped his seizure, and cared for him the way you'd expect an emergency vet to. They knew from the second I walked in the door I didn't have much money and they didn't care. They helped him and explained to me what had happened and why it was best to put him to sleep. They were so gentle and kind, and you could tell they genuinely cared about me and my dog. They took care of him like he was one of their own, and when the time came for my poor little guy to be put to sleep, Jill Keller, the vet, hugged me several times, and sat comforting me, something I know the staff at Emergency Vet Svc, never would've done. They even gave me a huge discount on the treatment because I couldn't afford anything else otherwise. Avoid this place, they aren't there to help animals, they're there only to make money. They don't care about you or your pet, you're an inconvenience to them and nothing more than a number walking in the door. It amazes me this place is even in business. read more

I wish I would have known that this place had taken an enormous dive in the last 10 years!! It was once a little place that could do big things for our four legged kids but has gone to a small place that only cares about how big your final bill is, and has lost any compassion it once had and care for your pet seems to be the last thing on their minds. I am still a little stunned, but will start by saying our dog came home in FAR worse shape after only a hour at this clinic then he arrived there at. It was last Friday night around 8 and he was acting like his normal self. We were getting ready to take both dogs on a walk when we noticed several drops of blood on the kitchen floor close to where our male dog had been standing. While it was not an enormous amount of blood, after finding where it had dripped from we headed over to Lisle. We collected a urine sample and were on our way. We explained to the tech that he had been acting totally normally but that the few drips of blood from his penis were alarming, especially given the fact that he is in tact. They ran the urinalysis and the vet called us into a room. She began to explain the findings and that she felt it was a UTI. I did not necessarily agree with this assessment as I am also a vet tech, but didn't say anything because she is the doctor and knew Monday morning we would get him into his regular vet that we love. She said she would have him on antibiotics which was what I had expected no matter what her actual diagnosis was, but in all honesty I had also expected x-rays to be done as well because that should be something that is standard procedure when any animal, but in particular an in tact male dog is dripping any amount of blood and so suddenly. She did not think that was necessary and told me if he doesn't improve we should take him into our regular vet for x-rays etc. In other words, she could not really be bothered. What she could be bothered with was giving him and injection for pain....the thing was though that he wasn't in any pain!!!!! She also said the pain injection would help him with his straining to urinate...again, he was NOT straining!!! To add insult to injury, she never even asked if we would like him to have a pain shot! Things only went downhill from there. We got him home, and while we were told the shot may make him tired, the poor dog could hardly get himself out of the car!!! As the night went on, we noticed he felt cold to the touch despite being covered by a blanket. I took his temp and he was at 97 degrees, and full 4 degrees lower than his usual, and his resting heart rate was less than half of what it should be. We called Lisle and asked if this was normal and were told that it was so we continued warming him up with microwaved blankets and stayed up all night monitoring him He is a very high energy dog and hits the ground running in the mornings, but Saturday he never got out of bed! The injection she gave him knocked him into something that resembled a coma and was far more upsetting than the blood that had brought us to Lisle in the first place. Our bill was $400, $100 of which was the pain injection for pain he never had, and not only that we left with a diagnosis that has been proven wrong by his usual vet. She has since doubled the dose of his antibiotics as the dose the ER vet had put him on was no where near adequate and he is going to be neutered on Monday as he has an enlarged prostate, (which is exactly what we had suspected), but also has an infection in his prostate that we managed to catch very early, but that was in no thanks so Lisle whatsoever. The guilt we have felt after taking him there is immense. To take your dog to an ER vet only to bring him home in such sorry shape just isn't excusable. We did not care about the final bill, we cared about helping our boy, but instead we paid an enormous price to our checkbook and hearts by taking him here and still feel awful for having done so. I suggest you go anywhere else aside from here should you need an er vets services. In all honesty rather than having taken him here I would have, given the choice, not taken him anywhere at all and waited for his regular vet to be in on Monday. A wrong diagnosis happens, but what doesn't is bringing him home in the narcotic induced daze that he was in for the following 24 hours after entering Lisle's doors and for no reason at all. It was just too sad for him but can tell you we will not be making the same mistake by returning there for any reason with any of our animals. I went here on Friday with my dog who has a spinal injury. This vet was so caring in through, that it comforted me to visit and take my pet here. Not only was he compassionate about Koufax, he immediately sent records to my vet Dr. Sedlacek, who followed up on the progress of my pet this week. He was up front on what can happen, which I appreciate because I don't feel like I was kept in the dark on what MIGHT happen if the medicine my dog takes doesn't work. I will recommend this vet any day of the year. read more

I have never written a yelp review but I had to share my positive experience. My dog became sick the night before Thanksgiving so we went to this 24 hour vet. From the tech at the desk to the vet, everyone was so nice, welcoming, and professional. What I really like is that this is a 24 hour emergency vet not a primary vet so they don't care who you are "loyal" to. Before we left they faxed my dog's primary vet all the information of what went on, the medications we left with and everything that he was seen for. The doc was super knowledgable and took his time to educate me on what was going on with my pup and how to take the meds properly etc. I absolutely recommend EVS! read more

I had to take my sweet doggie here yesterday, as my regular vet, strangely, does not work every moment, like Sundays. This is one of two places his office message recommends. I called both, and after giving a description of the problem, asked what the fee would be for the office visit and the basic workup for the problem. I am in the medical field, and have had pets with similar symptoms, so I do know that every problem has a basic workup to be expected. Facility #1 had an office visit price that was 40% higher than EVS, and would not divulge any other costs. EVS gave me a ballpark figure so I wouldn't have sticker shock. I also checked reviews of both facilities on multiple sites (all of this in a mere 15 minutes). Facility #1, while just as highly rated for care, was accused of price inflation and perhaps some overzealous testing. EVS was not. Though located twice as far from my home, it was no contest. Plus, they were much nicer on the phone; always a plus. They asked that I call before coming in so that they could be set up for her visit. Miss Doggie and I were there within the hour. A tech started out, doing her thing. Dr Otto came in and informed me that we may have more going on than is visible, but that in his experience it isn't likely. He stated we could forego further testing, but it was necessary to give my dog pain meds and an antibiotic for her bladder infection (hopefully not any urinary crystals cum stones), I was instructed to follow up with my regular vet at the end of the 10 day antibiotic course, and bring a urine sample (they provided collection devices) or sooner if she appeared to be worsening. They also said they would fax over the visit record so my regular vet would have complete information. This is how it should be done! read more

Our highest regards to Dr. Rick Otto DVM concerning our dog "Ginger's" emergency surgery two weeks ago. This being an emergency situation, we were impressed with the professional way in which Dr. Otto handled everything at EVS. Dr. Otto's diagnosis and analysis of our dog's situation was accurate, professional and efficient. We took Ginger in because of anemia and lethargy. The x-ray Dr. Otto recommended showed that she had a large mass on her spleen. He recommended immediate surgery for removal to prevent rupture of the mass, causing possible death (which is how we lost our last golden). We elected to have Dr. Otto go ahead with surgery to remove the mass and her spleen which weighed over 2lbs. This obviously saved the dog's life. Her recovery was rapid. Follow up blood work per Dr. Otto was performed to make sure everything was returning to normal levels. The even better news was that the mass was benign (not cancerous)!! Dr. Otto was as happy as we were with this great news. This is an indication of his great care and compassion for the pets he treats and their owners. He is a very skilled and knowledgeable veterinarian. The technician on staff was also caring and efficient. Ginger is her old self again and we could be not happier with our experience at Emergency Veterinary Services in Lisle. We would gladly take our pets here in the future for any emergencies. I have visited the Emergency Veterinary Service of Lisle a couple of times now and have nothing but positive things to say about it. It is under new ownership and they are making great improvements to the facility. The entire staff is extremely professional, gentle and attentive. I have had my fair share of pets over the years and have actually known the Emergency Veterinary Service's new owner, Dr. Amy Smith for quite some time now. (I have been bringing my pets to her since before she became the owner of EVS.) I would consider myself to be a bit of an overprotective "pet parent" and Dr. Smith has always been so professional and has gone above and beyond for my pets and myself every single time. Although her new facility is a bit further away from home the peace of mind that I have knowing that Dr. Smith and her staff will always take such great care of my pets is definitely worth the drive. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone whose pet is in need of care. read more
