The food is always great, love the apple jack cheese sticks. While I've never had one, the group I'm usually with really likes their Grapevine signature cocktail when its made correctly. But It seems no 2 bartenders make it the same, some sweet, some sour, some missing alcohol. read more

Went tonight and had the redneck nachos and they were amazing. I have the lobster Mac and cheese and it was amazing has a little kick to it. My husband had the meatloaf sandwich and said it was great. The service was great. My drink was also good. Some bars just cannot make good drinks this one did great read more

Ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese for $14.95. Service was good and received our meal in very timely order considering how busy they were. Our waitress was very good so thanks to her. However, the meal itself was not good at all. The wine sauce tasted metallic( I know that's not helpful) and looked like some kind of plain white sauce, but no lobster as it had only some little shrimp in the dish. Menu clearly says lobster. I admit to being a woosey about heat, but it had hot chilly pepper flakes in it which was not stated in the meal description(like dish is spicy, etc.). Had my wife check it as she is better than I about heat and she agreed. Did order a side salad and it was fine. Forget wife's meal, but she didn't like it either. Finally, that being said we came here because of past experience with there American Classic Burger which was outstanding. Guess you have hit and miss at times, but not sure we will go back again for other than the burger as a carryout. read more

2nd visit tonight, first time we had Ruebens and onion straws. The sandwiches were heavy with meat and cheese, not so much on the thousand island and sauerkraut. The onion straws were what brought us back. They have an early evening half price appetizer special, we decided we would have appetizers and salads. We ordered wings, loaded potato bites and onion straws, two salads, 2 beers. Bill came to 35$, but i found only 2 of the appetizers were rung up at half price. I questioned the bill, was told, only one appetizer per patron is half price. Not stated on the website, not mentioned when we ordered. Time to try a different place, ok food, good service, but it still left a bad taste. read more

Give them 4 stars for atmosphere, we were seated in a dark corner, walls were a burgundy with yellow lighting, made for a slightly depressing mood. The ceiling fan was on high, which gave for a cool breeze, but after asking Jamie (our server) if she could turn it down, it was actually turned off and that was nice. Food definitely gets 5 stars, the pasta salad was awesome and my Cuban sandwich was delicious. We also had the potatoe bites, which were out of this world, never had anything like them and highly recommend them (be sure to get the smoky ranch!). My wife ordered the Italian beef sandwich, but was delivered a french dip. Jamie brought some peppers that go on the Italian beef and my wife enjoyed the sandwich, but it really wasn't what she ordered, so points against them for that. Service from Jamie was great, she was attentive and friendly, willing to make our visit a good one, it's just too bad that my wife's order got messed up (Jamie said "now that makes sense" after we told her about the sandwich, apparently someone complained that their french dip was spicy, they sent it back. Over all, I look forward to going back again, there were a number of other things on the menu I'd like to try! read more

My first visit was just ok, but I intend to go back sometime as it seemed promising. The dining room was so dark I struggled to even read the menu. The waitress said our table light was out. I'm not sure why they seated us there in a nearly empty restaurant. Yes, the location is nearly impossible to find, so Hideaway (or Speakeasy) is an appropriate name. Just go behind the Taco Johns near the Home Depot and look for a nondescript building. If the rent is cheap here, they sure didn't pass it along in their prices. I had the Hawkeye - roast beef, mushrooms, pepper, onion, bacon and cheese. It was $10 with a side but it's a buck up-charge to get fries, which were very good. The sandwich was huge, I took 1/2 of it home for lunch the next day. Not keen on the bread it came with. The menu said sourdough but it appeared to be a hearty Texas toast and very lightly toasted. I probably won't order it again. The app menu was interesting, so we might come for drinks and apps in the bar. read more

We are not from that area but saw the reviews on yelp and decided to give it a try because we were close by. We were in a rush and told the hostess so. She got a seated immediately, the waitress came within one minute and took our drink and food orders at the same time. We were served in less than 10 minutes and were out the door in under half an hour. Liked the cool atmosphere, servers were friendly, the food was delicious. Very happy with this experience and will definitely go back next time we're in town. read more

My wife and I really enjoy this place! We have been here 6 or so times, and we have tried a bunch of things. I think there was only one thing that I really didn't like, but my wife loved it. The food is tasty and the beer was served in a super frosted mug. I like the Italian beef and the Cuban. read more

Incredible service as our party of six strolled into Emil's at 11:30pm last night, knowing it wasn't closed, yet know one was in sight except the bearded Steve cleaning up the bar. We asked if food was still being served, and he cheerfully said "it's been slow but we're turning the ovens back on for you," as he set a large table for us. It just got better from there. And if we thought the service was excellent, the pizza is wonderful, tasty and priced to eat!! The Hideaway could be a well-kept secret, but it's one of the best in town!! read more

Came in tonight and had the spicy chicken rangoon appetizer, Italian beef sandwich along with a couple beers (Worker's Comp from Lion Bridge). Everything tasted great. Everything here is amazing, the atmosphere, service, food and drinks! So much from scratch. Not much if any frozen out of a box. We had the hand battered onion strings and mozz sticks to start. Some in our group had the emils pasta, others the meatloaf and some the pizza. Everything was awesome. My favorite was the red grape, gorgonzola, sausage pizza! The crust was crisp, thin and perfectly blistered. Drinks were well poured. Great beer selection! Our server Casey was a doll and very attentive. Love the Hideaway! read more

I ate here with out of town company today (I remembered how good Emil's was when I worked Christmas seasons downtown years ago) and decided it was time to see if the "new Emil's" was half as good as the original one. Went in for a family dinner tonight. Everyone got a variety of dishes from Reuben Pizza, to various sandwiches and the Hideaway Pasta. All the food was well liked and tasted good (didn't hear anyone complain about anything). Star dish I would have to say was the Hideaway Pasta. I don't get pasta ever as I'm not a fan but I stole a few bites from my daughters plate and I was wanting to order my own. Great flavor and very addicting. Amazingly good food, fantastic prices, and excellent service. Jill waited on us and was very engaging and knowledgeable about the menu and family history. I loved the atmosphere. For me, the hidden location makes it more intriguing and the portions, quality and price ensures we WILL return. I'm totally confused with some of the negative reviews on the prices??? I'm not sure where these other people are dining.. My Southern pulled pork sandwich and salad was 7.95. There were 6 of us and all of us found the prices to be very reasonable. There are a variety of options and prices on the menu. Even frugal minded folks will find something to eat. Emil's Hideaway has my business and I plan to return often. Its great to have a family operated restaurant option that serves delicious food!! read more

I was a little worried about coming tonight because I was informed that they were part of Cedar Rapids Restaurant week and may be busy. We went early (around 5:15pm) and got in immediately and it was already pretty full. We were seated next to a very loud larger group but that was not the restaurants fault. We ordered the Redneck Nachos which were amazing and the perfect sharing size for two. Not too big, not too small. My husband got the Hawkeye and I got the smothered chicken sandwich. The legacy continues. Emil's Hideaway took the core components of the original Emil's - excellent food, homemade, and delicious - and found a place to house this great food with excellent service and atmosphere. I challenge you to find a restaurant/bar in the Cedar Rapids area that is so unique - good place, great food. Some of my favorites include the appetizers - Apple Jack cheese sticks, fried pickles, chicken rangoons (outstanding!). Sandwiches are the best - try the shrimp bacon club, the philly cheese steak, or the Italian beef. The smothered chicken sandwich is in another great choice. Homemade soups and sides fill out the menu. They smoke their own meats. Their pizzas are completely unique, and use the best flour and cheeses. If you eat or drink here and find something that is not to your liking, let the owners know! They are very customer focused and will make changes if something needs work.
