Emmy Squared is an institution, and this location on 48th Street is convenient for the theater crowd or a pregame before hitting the clubs in Hell's Kitchen. Service has been slow pretty much every single time, but the food has been as good as at other outposts of the Emily/Emmy Squared empire. Pizzas are crispy and delicious, burgers are yummy and filling. Specials are worth inquiring about: they had a green peppercorn burger a few months back that was banging, and the lunchtime chopped cheeseburger is one of the best patty melts for blocks around. I was less impressed with the Cesar salad on my first visit, shortly after they opened in this location. I was served a plate of dry lettuce leaves with a small amount of parmesan and bread crumbs, no salad dressing. Only halfway through did I discover a few anchovies stuck to the plate, hiding under the leaves. IDK if they still make it this way but that's not what I personally want from a Caesar salad. read more

Big fan of Emmys pizza. Tried while in Louisville years ago, and my purpose in life since then it has been to go to as many Emmys as I can find in other states. They have your Detroit style pizza, which for us who lived in New Haven CT, it is a different look to what we are used to. As you know, this is more of a thicker pie. At Emmys, the pies are rectangular, so you get like 6 squate slices per pizza. I would advise you to share 1 pizza. However, if you are hungry, you can easily devour one by yourself. They are kind of heavy, so proceed with caution if you eat one by yourself. We had the pizza to go and it took like 15 min to get it. The place is medium size but you know how restaurants can be in the city. It has a couple of tvs in there, and it looks like a decent vibe if you sit down and eat. Definitely recommend. read more

Came here for lunch on a Monday afternoon (day before 4th of July, so not your typical Monday) to find the place totally empty. The service was fast and friendly. While I'd imagine it isn't always this quiet, I get the impression you'll rarely run into waits here. If you're looking for a reasonably consistent, sit down, Detroit Style pizza place in the city with a wide variety of options Emmy Squared is exactly what you're looking for. With that said, it is about as expensive as you'll find for Detroit style. I'd say they've gone from a go to option to more of a special occasion spot The most significant ding I'd give on the pizza quality is that the crust is more charred than crispy. You don't really get the caramalized cheese taste you usually expect from a Detroit Style pizza. I was pretty in between on whether this is a 3 or 4 star spot, but I'd say the comfortable location, wide variety of pies and non pizza options push it to be a 4 star experience. With all of that said, I think you're better off looking a few neighborhoods downtown for a go to Detroit style spot, if you're willing to forgo sit down. read more

Came here with friends after a show on Broadway b/c we were craving pizza. I was surprised by how fancy this location is. Granted it was a Saturday night but it was quite dark. Service was attentive. We got a side of waffle fries and the Colony pizza and both were SO good. The fries were perfectly seasoned and fried, not greasy at all, crispy....I've been craving waffle fries since! The Colony pizza was perfect too: we loved the combination of the salty pepperoni, the slight heat of the jalapenos, and the sweetness of the honey. I visited this place shortly after it first opened. The service wasn't the best as they were still trying to figure everything out. It took a long time for our food to come out, and I think they forgot to bring a plate out until we reminded them. I ordered the Le Big Matt Burger. It's not as good as the burger from Emily West Village, but it was still pretty good. The pretzel bun and waffle fries are good as well. Someone in my party ordered the pizza, and I had a bite. It was delicious, and I'd get the pizza next time I come. This location doesn't have much seating, so I highly recommend making reservations. This square pizza is EVERYTHING ! I can't convey how good the crust and cheese are! The crust with the cheese turns to a crispy chewy goodness on the edges, yet the middle is pillow-ey soft, and the cheese in the middle is soft and gooey....all the ways cheese is good. AND they have gluten free crusts for those that need it. My friend had the Hawaiian gluten free pizza (pepperoni and pineapple), and said you can't tell it's gluten free! I had the margherita pizza. It was divine. I don't know if you're supposed to eat it with a fork since they gave us plates and forks, but I ate it with my hands. Lol. My other friend had the Big Mac burger with extra pickles and waffle fries. She said it was a little spicy but so good. I think the pickles were spicy. We all had the fries. The crisp and the flavoring on the fries was oh so good. Other details I liked: good music, great friendly staff, AND...the good small pebble ice! I had the Le Big Matt Burger and the Zia Fries. The burger was tasty, but nothing unique in my opinion. The sauce and the flavor of the burger didn't really shine through. We got the MVP which was a vegetarian vodka, marinara, pesto pizza. The pizza is good enough for about two people to share and by the time we got it, it was slightly colder. I definitely recommend throwing it in the oven for a bit before consuming. The pizza was good, I wish it was spicier though since the red pepper flakes weren't helping much. The burnt cheese crust was actually delicious but the pizza lacked flavor despite it being three types of flavors in one. Overall Emmy's is decent but I'd probably just stick to NY pizza in NYC or grab a slice fresh. read more

It is slightly below street level and you walk into an inviting atmosphere. it was not busy the time I got there so I was seated immediately and a bottle of water arrived momentarily to my table. I looked over the menu and decided on the classic pizza-I could have upgraded to the margherita [this added basil and burrata] but I decided to go with the classic. I decided to stick with the water as my beverage. My pizza arrived shortly after. It was thick, almost on par with focaccia bread and looked cheesy and delicious. It is thicker than the typical Sicilian style pizza and more breadlike. The edges are caramelized and the tomato sauce has a sweeter taste. My order could have been shared by two people. In summary, the service was prompt, the music was not too loud-you could carry on a conversation easily, they offer vegetarian options, however, it is pricey for pizza. It got much busier closer to the time that i was leaving. I would recommend and return. Make sure you go hungry. The pizza was delicious. read more

we came in this Saturday around 2 pm. The hostess/waitress/bartender wasn't at the front and we had our autistic brother with us who really needed to sit. Restaurant has maybe 2 tables sat (1 two top and 1 four too) and we actually has a 2 pm reservation. So we seat ourselves (bc there was no please wait to be seated sign) and start waiting patiently. She comes flying out the back trying to get us to stand up and wait outside again (???) so our brother is stimming bc she got loud and I walk with her to the front to apologize and say hey we didn't know but we have a reservation and enough in our party to sit here so can we just stay instead of moving him she somehow gets more irrationally irritated (???) and so we decided to just leave without eating bc it was clearly a long day for her and she was going to make it our problem. I hope that waitress has the day she deserves and management reconsiders letting her be alone on the floor bc she clearly can not handle 2-3 tables in a nearly empty restaurant alone. read more

Came here for a pre-show dinner and drinks. The place and the ambiance was so comforting like you were at your grandmas kitchen waiting for dinner. Cute table tops with dim lighting, music was high enough to enjoy but low enough to carry on a conversation. Was greeted immediately upon arrival and my reservation was checked (I made a resy because of 1. Location 2. It was Valentine's Day 3. Time). Although they did not have any happy hour specials like they did in the summer the server did suggest these 2 drinks off their seasonal menu. I know one was vodka/Prosecco based and the other was tequila based. The pizza!!! Was amazing perfectly fluffy, soft and chewy! The pesto was garlicky which matched up beautifully with the creaminess of the vodka sauce and the sweetness of the marinara. Wanted to try the roni that day but it was Ash Wednesday so we couldn't have meat. The pizza is Detroit style and easily shareable amongst 2 ppl. Will definitely be back! read more

Best Vegan Pizza in New York!!!! Decided that this trip to New York (Manhattan) was going to include vegan pizza. My usual stop is the exceptional Vegan on the Fly, but I wanted to find a place solely focused on creating the perfect pizza. Here's the thing about vegan pizza: the cheese is simply not the same; the star of the show must be the crust and sauce. Yes, interesting toppings help, but a really good base is needed. How many times have my fellow vegans ordered pizza just to have the bottom literally fall out, leaving a plate-full of goo? Back to NYC: I spent nearly an hour reviewing options close to Times Square. Repeatedly, I found myself drawn to the delicious-looking Emmy Squared Pizza. But wait, Detroit-style pizza in New York? This is what intrigued me about Emmy Squared Pizza: 1) it was founded in Brooklyn; 2) they combine a New York-style grandma pie with the Detroit style; and 3) the result is like a fluffy focaccia. Yummy! Plus, the brand of vegan Mozzarella they use is one of the better ones. Although they are not a vegan restaurant, their messaging said, "All of our pizzas can be made vegan!" Yes, that's what vegans are used to when eating out: substitution after substation. However, Emmy Squared Pizza offers a couple of options tailored to vegans. Once I found the "Artie Bucco" pie, I was sold! The ingredients were: vegan mozzarella, caramelized onions, garlic confit, and basil. Around 2:00 pm on a Friday, I arrived at their Hell's Kitchen location, where I was warmly greeted by Ian. I shared with him that I did my research and was thrilled to find Emmy Squared Pizza. I opened my menu, but where was the Artie Bucco? Ian explained that the vegan options were routinely updated. I asked if they had the ingredients to make an Artie Bucco. Without hesitation, he offered to ask. Chris, the manager, happened to walk up, overhearing our conversation. He needed to check on the garlic confit, and was available, they would gladly make an Artie Bucco for me. Minutes later, he confirmed they had it. Simultaneously, Chef passed by, and Chris said, "That's who will be making your pizza!" During my wait, Ian and I had a chat about how he decided to go vegan two weeks ago. I asked how it was going, and he said, "Great." That's a pretty good feat, since the initial start is often difficult. Chris stopped by my table and asked, "You know the Artie Bucco is a white pie, right?" No, I had missed that important part. He immediately offered to re-make the pizza. Although a kind offer, I said red sauce on the side would be just fine. Moments later, it arrived: the best tasting vegan pizza ever. The crust was delicious. True to Detroit style, the edges were lightly browned and crispy from the pan. I should have asked what they used instead of real butter, because I could detect a slightly-sweet richness. The crust was similar to focaccia, but not too thick. You know how your teeth sink and sink into a Chicago-style pizza? The Emmy Squared Pizza crust was much thinner than that and offered a nice bite. The sauce was exceptional, bursting with fresh tomato flavor and had the perfect seasoning. The amount of cheese was flawless, providing the exact right amount of creaminess. As expected, the garlic confit, caramelized onion, and basil were complimentary. Although the toppings were simple, they provided a symphony of complex flavors. The size of my pizza was "regular," meaning there were six, good-sized squares. I could only eat two, leaving leftovers for dinner and a snack. Score! I told all three gentlemen (Ian the server, Chris the manager, and Chef) how much I appreciated their extra efforts. Their kindness was the highlight of my New York trip. As I walked out the door, Ian said, "Vegan power!" I laughed and said I'd see them again when I return in April. Emmy Squared Pizza is a gem. Do not get delivery from this location. I've eaten in many times and enjoy fresh pizza with amazing tasty toppings. I recently got delivery which came on time however the pizza was awful. I was SO excited when I walked past an Emmy Squared in my neighborhood, and was wondering how I never noticed before. Turns out they literally just opened, and I just got lucky for coming on their first day! They didn't have their liquor license as of 9/16/22 so they were primarily doing takeout and delivery, but we were able to dine in after asking the host and confirming we didn't need any drinks to enjoy their pizza. Service was AMAZING, from the host to the server and the managers in the back, everyone really made sure that our dinner was a great one. As for the meal, I think it's common knowledge that Emily's and Emmy Squared have delicious food. This location was no different, every item we ordered exceeded all expectations (and we had pretty high expectations). Crispy Chicken Crunchers - they actually gave us this on the house since it was opening night and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! I'm usually not much of a buffalo sauce person, so this sriracha glaze was a nice and sweet change from your typical chicken appetizer. The ranch that it came with was herby and amazing and we used it for the rest of the meal. Spinach and Asparagus Salad - Great flavor from the champagne vinaigrette and nice crunch from the radish and asparagus. Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich - I love Nashville hot chicken and this was probably one of the best hot chicken sandwiches I've had (second only to Howlin' Rays in LA). It wasn't very spicy but had great flavor and ridiculous crunch. It was also HUGE, which two big pieces of chicken that extended way past the bun. Impossible Ang - We were able to sub the impossible meatballs for sausage so I guess this was a possible ang lol.
