Met family here for an early dinner on Saturday. They were visiting NYC for a Broadway matinee and wanted classic ny pizza for dinner after. There aren't that many pizza restaurants in the theater district that take reservations (John's and Don Antonio's don't take them). Selected Angelo's simply since they took reservations and the reviews here weren't half bad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You have to walk up a large stair case to get the main dining area upstairs which was very large.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was pretty empty when we first arrived but by 530 it had filled out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There was a giant party of 25+ people who arrived and took up one 1/3 of the dining room. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The crowd here screams tourist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was fine - a little too eager to take our order. We ordered two large pies - pepperoni and a Margherita with roasted peppers and onions. The pies came out quickly - they looked good but they were cold and a little raw. Some of the pepperoni barely looked like it was in the oven. I also hate when restaurants just throw a few giant basil leaves on top of a margherita rather than using an herb cutter and/or sprinkling it around. Sauce was pretty good, taste wasn't bad. If we hadn't been with a hungry child, I would have asked them to put it back in the oven to cook longer. Don't think I'll ever be back here again but it's not a bad option for a pizza restaurant in Times Square. Don Antonio's is much better though. read more

I almost never leave negative reviews. In fact, I rarely leave reviews at all unless I have something genuinely positive to say. Unfortunately, this experience deserves a warning. I ordered delivery from what appeared to be a different business, but it turned out to be one of their ghost kitchens--the same restaurant, same address, and same phone number. The delivery, which they confirmed was handled by their own employee and not a third-party service, arrived late. When it was marked as delivered, I received a photo confirmation. The problem was that the photo clearly wasn't taken in my building. I've lived here for over 15 years, and I immediately recognized that it wasn't my hallway or entrance. Despite this, the woman I spoke with repeatedly insisted the order had been delivered to my building, even though the photo proved otherwise. During the call, I could hear her speaking with the delivery driver in the background. At one point, I heard him say he could either go back, retrieve the order, and deliver it to the correct address, or they could send out a new one. Instead, I heard her respond, "We aren't getting paid for a second delivery. We left it in a building. Good enough." She then hung up on me without another word. Mistakes happen. Delivering to the wrong address is frustrating, but it can be fixed. What made this experience unacceptable was the refusal to acknowledge the mistake, the repeated attempts to tell me the photo was from my own building when it clearly wasn't, and the rude, dismissive customer service. They didn't just lose this order, they lost a customer who would have happily ordered from them again. I'll also be disputing the charge since I never received my food. read more

Five stars: Great I might be biased because I was starving after traveling 7-8 hours, but the food here was delicious. We got into NYC around 10 PM, so many places were closed. One of the benefits of this restaurant is that it is open late. It is also close to many of the hotels by Central Park. The staff were friendly. We did not interact with them much because we ordered fast and devoured our food shortly after it arrived. Service on a weekday at noon was very good. Only a few parties were eating when we were there. We started with the Grilled Octopus appetizer. The octopus came with capers, a couple different kinds of olives and fingerling potatoes. While bold on salt, but not salty, this was a delicious dish. I ordered the Spaghetti Con Polpette. Polpette are meatballs. The tomato sauce was fresh and excellent, about the best I have ever had. The meatballs were large, tender and mildly seasoned. Overall, an excellent dish. JP opted for the Spaghetti Di Grano Duro Con I Vegetali, a fancy way of saying pasta with vegetables. This dish was quite decent. Our entrees came with warm rolls. My family and I dined here last night after seeing a show on Broadway and I was pleasantly surprised at how hot and fresh the food was! We shared a Salmon Tartare, the Eggplant Rollatini and a 17" Margherita Pizza, all of which were great. The crust was ok, but the sauce and cheese were wonderful. I loved the eggplant dish which had a generous amount of sauce. We shared a pitcher of sangria, which quickly watered itself down and I can't say I'd recommend getting that drink. So, the pizza was actually pretty good. The ingredients tasted of high quality and the taste was great. The pizza didn't that have that authentic able to bend the pizza feel but it was still good, you can eat it with a fork. However, I was very disappointed with the service, considering the high expectations I had for this place. According to Yelp, Google AND everywhere else, this place closes at 300 am! We arrived at 1230 am and the place was empty. When we walked in no one greeted us and we were kinda just standing there like what do we do? Do we sit down? Do we wait to be seated? Do we sit and grab a menu or what? Anyway, my husband asked where the bathroom was and he just pointed up with his hand and said nothing else. I immediately sensed the tension, I asked "Are we late? What time does the kitchen close?" He responded, "how fast can you eat?" I said, "Don't you close at 3?" And he said, "130." The entire time looking seemingly annoyed by my presence. I immediately wondered if I wanted to support this business but given the time and us wanting to immediately go home, we decided to stay. No one came to check on us the entire time we were seated. Needless to say, when the bill came I just wanted to get out of there which is why I tipped the very minimum. I was visiting from Las Vegas and did months of research and this place was not one on my list but still one I had high hopes for. In my opinion, I'd rather rather 90% of what I paid tonight and go back to the $5 pizza slices shops in every corner who have way better pizza. Good pizza for a quick late night dinner. My colleagues and I got to NYC late and wanted a bite to eat, this place was right next to our hotel so we got some takeout. Not the top option in Downtown for an authentic New York slice but it will definitely suffice for curing hunger. Margherita pizza is a solid choice. Expectations run high when you're dining in a restaurant within a city that has 25.3 restaurants per mile. But if you can't even get a drink within 15 to 20 minutes of being seated, expectations turn into hope, the hope that you can actually have a good dinner and get back out at a decent hour. Fortunately for Angelo's they are located off of Broadway and they do have good pizza. The combination of fresh mozzarella, a light red sauce and fresh pepperoni's, all served on a well baked crust, makes for a good pizza. And I do love fresh garlic, but maybe they should consider minced rather than oddly sized chunks. Sadly, the service doesn't reflect that of an Italian restaurant, its spotty at best and you would be lucky to get 2 drinks. It feels more like a pizza hut, a considerably overpriced one at that! WARNING: If you are looking for the Angelo's Coal Oven Pizzeria that Dave Portnoy gave a 9.3, this isn't it. I ate at both. That one is on 57th Street and is the best pizza I've ever had. It deserves the 9.3 rating he gave it. This location appears to be from the same family or something but the website for the one on 57th Street does not list additional locations. It's confusing. What's not confusing is the pizza here is not in the same league as the pizza at Angelo's on 57th Street. It was undercooked and floppy. Very disappointing because it looks just like the pizza at the Angelo's on 57th Street. They also put oregano on top which they don't do at the Angelo's on 57th Street and it detracts from the overall flavor of the margherita pizza. Trust me. Skip this one and go eat the real deal on 57th Street. You'll be happy you did, it's only about 10 minutes away. read more
