Angelo's was a magical part of my first New York experience! There were four of us visiting NY for the first time (aunt, cousin, nephews 30th birthday trip). The hotel happened to be in the Theater District (mind you, I don't know anything about NY) so I planned all our restaurant reservations around an address. We land at EWR, take the train to nearest stop to our hotel, wait 2 hours to check in so we push our Angelo's reservation twice. Finally, we step out onto W. 47th, look both ways and enter 1697 Broadway into our phones. We walk to the corner, make a left, I see a marquee (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert), my daughter looks to the right, 'it's the NYE Ball'. We realize, we made our way to Times Square! We walk into Angelo's, expecting our reservation to be long gone...We were shown the best hospitality and we still reminisce about the pizza (5 years later). decent pizza and italian spot near broadway theater. The portions are pretty big! and the individual portions can definitely be shared amongst multiple people. Loved the cocktail I got- which was gin based. the margherita pizza was also great! a classic choice that had a perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and basil. really loved the pasta dishes we ordered too the service was okay, it did take a while to flag down our waiter several times. the space itself was spacious and clean, and i love that there was a second floor. read more

Met family here for an early dinner on Saturday. They were visiting NYC for a Broadway matinee and wanted classic ny pizza for dinner after. There aren't that many pizza restaurants in the theater district that take reservations (John's and Don Antonio's don't take them). Selected Angelo's simply since they took reservations and the reviews here weren't half bad. You have to walk up a large stair case to get the main dining area upstairs which was very large. It was pretty empty when we first arrived but by 530 it had filled out. There was a giant party of 25+ people who arrived and took up one 1/3 of the dining room. The crowd here screams tourist. Service was fine - a little too eager to take our order. We ordered two large pies - pepperoni and a Margherita with roasted peppers and onions. The pies came out quickly - they looked good but they were cold and a little raw. Some of the pepperoni barely looked like it was in the oven. I also hate when restaurants just throw a few giant basil leaves on top of a margherita rather than using an herb cutter and/or sprinkling it around. Sauce was pretty good, taste wasn't bad. If we hadn't been with a hungry child, I would have asked them to put it back in the oven to cook longer. Don't think I'll ever be back here again but it's not a bad option for a pizza restaurant in Times Square. Don Antonio's is much better though. read more

We mistakenly came to this place and after looking over the overpriced menu and mediocre food, we decided to leave. Before looking over the menu, our waiter asked us wether we wanted still or sparkling water and we of course said still, but after getting up to leave he RAN to us and told us that bottle was 9$!!!! (it was actually 13$) and said "you have to pay for it anywhere in NY" (mind you we are minors who very obviously look like tourists) and turns the blame on US and says we should've ordered tap water when we were NEVER even given that option. The restaurant itself has hobby lobby decor and 2012 pintrest vibes and family style meals for 60$???? at that point go to any 2$ pizza place in nyc and you are guaranteed to get a fresher slice that what ever they were serving. read more

Five stars: Great I might be biased because I was starving after traveling 7-8 hours, but the food here was delicious. We got into NYC around 10 PM, so many places were closed. One of the benefits of this restaurant is that it is open late. It is also close to many of the hotels by Central Park. The staff were friendly. We did not interact with them much because we ordered fast and devoured our food shortly after it arrived. I liked the decor of the restaurant. The upstairs area has a lot of seating if you have a big party. I thought the prices and portions were reasonable. We did not think we were going to be able to eat everything, but we surprised ourselves. I cannot say whether this is the best pizza in NYC, but it was pretty darn good. Right next to The Tonight Show. There are a couple of "Angelo's Coal Fire Pizza's" in the area, mostly the same menu. This location has more seating up straits so requesting seating upstairs to avoid the awkward on top of your neighbor seating like most NYC establishments. We had the Caesar salad, Italian salad and the cheese ravioli. We enjoyed the food but not the price to portions. Salads are like a side salad and not an entree. Ravioli is delicious. They have a full bar selection with 3 draft beers and another cans wine the wine list look extensive. read more

A convenient Midtown stop for great Italian food. With a traditional-feeling atmosphere Angelo's has a larger seating area upstairs than downstairs. Located next to the studio where the Stephen Colbert show is taped. Service on a weekday at noon was very good. Only a few parties were eating when we were there. We started with the Grilled Octopus appetizer. The octopus came with capers, a couple different kinds of olives and fingerling potatoes. While bold on salt, but not salty, this was a delicious dish. I ordered the Spaghetti Con Polpette. Polpette are meatballs. The tomato sauce was fresh and excellent, about the best I have ever had. The meatballs were large, tender and mildly seasoned. Overall, an excellent dish. JP opted for the Spaghetti Di Grano Duro Con I Vegetali, a fancy way of saying pasta with vegetables. This dish was quite decent. Our entrees came with warm rolls. The butter packets were cold from the fridge, but I will mostly overlook that because everything else was so good. read more

I almost never leave negative reviews. In fact, I rarely leave reviews at all unless I have something genuinely positive to say. Unfortunately, this experience deserves a warning. I ordered delivery from what appeared to be a different business, but it turned out to be one of their ghost kitchens--the same restaurant, same address, and same phone number. The delivery, which they confirmed was handled by their own employee and not a third-party service, arrived late. When it was marked as delivered, I received a photo confirmation. The problem was that the photo clearly wasn't taken in my building. I've lived here for over 15 years, and I immediately recognized that it wasn't my hallway or entrance. Despite this, the woman I spoke with repeatedly insisted the order had been delivered to my building, even though the photo proved otherwise. During the call, I could hear her speaking with the delivery driver in the background. At one point, I heard him say he could either go back, retrieve the order, and deliver it to the correct address, or they could send out a new one. Instead, I heard her respond, "We aren't getting paid for a second delivery. We left it in a building. Good enough." She then hung up on me without another word. Mistakes happen. Delivering to the wrong address is frustrating, but it can be fixed. What made this experience unacceptable was the refusal to acknowledge the mistake, the repeated attempts to tell me the photo was from my own building when it clearly wasn't, and the rude, dismissive customer service. They didn't just lose this order, they lost a customer who would have happily ordered from them again. I'll also be disputing the charge since I never received my food. read more

My family and I dined here last night after seeing a show on Broadway and I was pleasantly surprised at how hot and fresh the food was! We shared a Salmon Tartare, the Eggplant Rollatini and a 17" Margherita Pizza, all of which were great. The crust was ok, but the sauce and cheese were wonderful. I loved the eggplant dish which had a generous amount of sauce. We shared a pitcher of sangria, which quickly watered itself down and I can't say I'd recommend getting that drink. The mozzarella sticks had the perfect 'pull' & the marinara sauce was flavorful. The brick oven pizza is thin & crisp and juuussttt right. So, the pizza was actually pretty good. The ingredients tasted of high quality and the taste was great. The pizza didn't that have that authentic able to bend the pizza feel but it was still good, you can eat it with a fork. Their garlic bread on the "sides" menu was probably one THE best garlic breads I've ever had, hand down! However, I was very disappointed with the service, considering the high expectations I had for this place. According to Yelp, Google AND everywhere else, this place closes at 300 am! We arrived at 1230 am and the place was empty. When we walked in no one greeted us and we were kinda just standing there like what do we do? Do we sit down? Do we wait to be seated? Do we sit and grab a menu or what? Anyway, my husband asked where the bathroom was and he just pointed up with his hand and said nothing else. I immediately sensed the tension, I asked "Are we late? What time does the kitchen close?" He responded, "how fast can you eat?" I said, "Don't you close at 3?" And he said, "130." The entire time looking seemingly annoyed by my presence. I immediately wondered if I wanted to support this business but given the time and us wanting to immediately go home, we decided to stay. No one came to check on us the entire time we were seated. Needless to say, when the bill came I just wanted to get out of there which is why I tipped the very minimum. I was visiting from Las Vegas and did months of research and this place was not one on my list but still one I had high hopes for. In my opinion, I'd rather rather 90% of what I paid tonight and go back to the $5 pizza slices shops in every corner who have way better pizza. Loved the margherita pizza! Crust was nice a crisp with a soft inside. Fresh toppings and plenty of basil! The crème brûlée was a bit odd. It was covered in mushy berries instead of the classic torched sugar topping that I love. I would order the pizza again and not the dessert. The service was good. I love the vibe, downstairs is small and charming with nice street views to people watch and upstairs had lots of room. Expectations run high when you're dining in a restaurant within a city that has 25.3 restaurants per mile. But if you can't even get a drink within 15 to 20 minutes of being seated, expectations turn into hope, the hope that you can actually have a good dinner and get back out at a decent hour. Fortunately for Angelo's they are located off of Broadway and they do have good pizza. The combination of fresh mozzarella, a light red sauce and fresh pepperoni's, all served on a well baked crust, makes for a good pizza. And I do love fresh garlic, but maybe they should consider minced rather than oddly sized chunks. Sadly, the service doesn't reflect that of an Italian restaurant, its spotty at best and you would be lucky to get 2 drinks. It feels more like a pizza hut, a considerably overpriced one at that!
