Emmy Squared is a very casual pizza spot with plenty of seating. Sometimes, that's what you want. I came here as a walk-in, for a party of two at 1pm. Pick a table and seat yourself and order via the QR code on the table. My dining partner was in a wheelchair due to a busted leg, and we were very happy we had no issues with finding a suitable table near the entrance nor entering with the wheelchair itself. Plenty of tables indoors and some outside, with quite a few TVs tuned to sports. The place is very casual, and comes off as 80% a pizza spot, and 20% a kinda place you may try and go there for whatever beers they happen to have available if the bars nearby are packed. There's a couple of single-stall bathrooms in the restaurant. Staff interaction was very minimal as food ordering was via the QR code and the one person we saw just brought us our food and pointed out there were more napkins nearby. I split the Founder's Pizza with my dining partner. Good size for two people. It came out relatively quick (less than 5 minutes) and was both deliciously hot and had the pepperoni nice and blistered with just the right amount of oil. The place has plastic cutlery which is a little too flimsy for cutting Detroit style pizza, so ripping and tearing with our hands was the way to go. There were napkins but no toppings of any kind when I went to go see if there were chili flakes or cheese to sprinkle on top. The menu is focused on pizza, sporting a good selection of pizzas and some side staples (like fries). The drinks/etc are very much more limited. Maybe only a touch higher on price than I would expect for what you get (super minimal service, very casual). It's not a spot to recommend to folks visiting LA, but for a casual pizza spot with no frills, I would consider coming back to Emmy Squared if I happen to be in the convention/Crypto Arena area and wanted a quick bite to eat. read more

Emmy Squared has become quite the staple for my fiancé and me, which is honestly high praise coming from someone who does not love pizza with her whole heart. Our go-to is the Founders pizza with pepperoni, jalapeño, and honey. The combination of sweet, savory, and spicy is perfect. The pizzas are a little on the smaller side, but one works well for two people, especially for a casual meal. We usually order our food to go, but there is seating available if you would rather dine in, and you can order directly from a QR code at the table. My only real complaint is that I wish they offered a wider selection of drinks and desserts. Overall, it is an easy, reliable favorite for us. read more

The pizza is excellent. I have never received worse service. I went to the Emmy Squared in Washington DC and really enjoyed the service there. The service in LA is a slap in the face. First of all there is no wait staff. You order by scanning a code and doing it yourself. There is no option not to tip. I'm glad I gave the minimum 15 percent. The pizza came out with no utensils. I asked for a knife and fork. The person serving the food said they are over there. Go get them yourself. I told him to get it and earn a tip. He brought back a plastic knife and fork. It's impossible to cut deep dish pizza with plastic. I explained this to the server. He snidely stated, "nobody else has a problem." I asked for the manager at that point and he doubled down on the plastic approach stating health concerns. I refused to accept this stupidity and berated him until silver ware was supplied. I spent close to 50 dollars here and this kind of indolence and laziness is not acceptable. I've included a picture of the silver ware I eventually received. Hold these clowns accountable. I needed to grab a quick bite before going to the Grammy Museum and thought I'd give Emmy a try. They sell mostly whole pies, but have cheese and pepperoni by the slice, so I ordered one of each. At first, I thought the slices were a bit small, and looked a bit overcooked, but they were delicious! I love Detroit style pizza, and this is good Detroit style pizza. Nice crispy crust, tasty sauce, and a good amount of cheese. The two slices and a Coke plus tip was around $20. Service was quick, atmosphere was nice. I walk past this establishment quite often on my way to the Staple Center. Long story shot, upon entering the place was empty, I was greeted with a friendly hello. I grabbed one square slice and was on my way. He heated it but it was still luke warm in the middle. The taste/flavor was really good but I was disappointed to pay almost $8 for a square slice of pizza that wasn't even wider than my hand . They have a deal if you go after a game you get a drink and slice for almost the same price, honestly that's the only way I'll go back. read more

Been curious about Emmy Squared for a while, and now there's finally a location within delivery range in DTLA. Delivery was reasonably quick, but the pizza definitely suffered from the trip. By the time it arrived, the crust had softened considerably from the steam. That said, this pizza reheats absurdly well. Five minutes at 425° on a pizza steel and it was basically a fresh-out-of-the-oven experience again. The biggest sticking point here is the value proposition. Not even the raw price itself, but the portion size relative to the cost. The pies are pretty small -- around the size of an XL glove -- and my order came out to roughly $80 delivered. If these were the size of two Prime Pizza Sicilians, I'd be thrilled. Even Hot Tongue square size would feel easier to justify. But these are tiny pies, and at this price point it definitely raises an eyebrow. I know, I know, I could just pick up for 30% less or whatever, but the point is that I can spend $80-$100 to get 2-3 pies delivered to me anywhere in Los Angeles County, so if it's not from here, it'll be somewhere else. As for the pizza itself: clean ingredients, clean bites, excellent crunch after reheating. Nothing individually mind-blowing, but everything works together well. The cheese gets beautifully melty, the sauce turns rich and comforting once reheated, and the whole thing becomes extremely satisfying. The dough itself wasn't especially notable structurally -- no dramatic crumb or fermentation character -- but the overall eating experience was still very good. I haven't looked at the other reviews yet, but if everyone got the same product I did, I'd guess the overwhelming complaint is probably portion size versus price. read more

Adding an update just to warn others. Besides wanting Detroit style pizza, I chose this location because it was listed as a participating restaurant to get parking validated at the LA Live garage. The worker said they don't validate the actual garage voucher tickets, but give a pre validated ticket for the garage. Upon exciting, the attendant said the given ticket was expired. I was within the time frame and went straight to the garage after. The machine eats the ticket so we couldn't see how old it actually was. I didn't put this into my initial review because I was hoping to settle the issue privately, but no one has returned my email. **This review is for the Big Matt Burger only** Went there on Friday evening. I didn't try their pizza but the Big Matt Burger was sooooo delicious! I was hesitant about the pretzel bun but everything tasted great together. The burger even had a little kick, yum! The staff at the register was super nice and helpful - she was patient and gave us time to think about our order without rushing us, showed us how to get water and even walked to our table to ask if we wanted additional sauces. Since I work in LA Live I asked if they honored the discount and the cashier said yes, but when I got my receipt there was no discount applied. I had an appointment at UCLA next to Emmy Squared. Arriving early, I decided to check out the pizza place as I was hungry. When I saw they made burgers, I thought that was the smarter choice as I could finish it before my appointment at the clinic. I ordered a bacon cheese burger. I was pretty stoked to see this place opening up one night when I was attending a show at the Novo, so when it finally opened I knew I needed to come and see what this place was about. Emmy Squared Pizza is a pretty huge pizza shop located at the entrance of the Crypto.com restaurant area (I think it has a name, but who knows). When you walk into this place there is a huge counter where you can order, or you can take a seat at one of the tables, scan the barcode, and order right from the table which is exactly what we did. We settled on ordering a classic red sauce and mozzarella pizza as well as an order of the Zia fries which is a double order of french fries mixed in with some zia pimento cheese, scallions, bacon, and ranch. One thing I have to give kudos for is that as a note on the order, I asked for lightly baked crust so it would be on the softer side and one of the employees came to double check with me and they did exactly what I asked! When the pizza came out it was perfect for me. The cheese and sauce tasted pretty good while the dough was on the lighter side and had some great taste. The Zia fries that we had on the side were top notch as well. The french fries were crispy and the nacho like consistency of the whole thing was really tasty. Overall, Emmy Squared Pizza gets a win in my book. Although it wasn't the best thick style pizza I've ever had, they made me a solid pizza and listened to exactly what I wanted. The staff here was friendly and although I had to stand at the counter for 5 minutes for a water cup, things happen and I eventually did get it. Will I be back here? Definitely! First time trying I work nearby. update after going I think about five times now I have to admit I like this Pizza more than I would like to admit I'm a thin crust guy. The sauce on the bread is wonderful and the bread is fresh and the pepperoni has an awesome curl. I've never been to Chicago, but I think this must be a pretty good example of some great pizza I live in little Italy Los Angeles/San Pedro with some of the best pizza and Italian restaurants around and this is delicious single slice nine dollars. This review is for patrons looking to grab a slice only as I can only review for my poor experience. Do NOT order pizza slices from here. They are very small, puny in fact. Which wouldn't be an issue if it was $4 but for $9 a slice I hoped it would be bigger than something that fit in palm of my hand... It was a Friday evening and not busy, I saw they had only a few tables, the manager said slices only take 4-5 minutes at the most, so I paid and even tipped (no idea why) waited and waited, while waiting a guy came in and asked for a slice, when told the price he laughed and walked out loudly saying "$10 for slice? GTFOH!" (Wish I had done that), finally after 15+ minutes and with an apology from the manager (he knew he lied), I was given w/ a tiny corner slice. I had a look of disappointment & surprise on my face and the young girl that presented it knew it was a pathetic slice and quickly looked away. Needless to say I felt ripped off, what a joke. The slice itself tasted fine but I believe their pricing is based off of their business location (LA Live) and a likely high rent. At least give the consumer something worth their money. I was still hungry after the dinky slice but I just chalked it up to a loss. There are no other options for slices in this area so you're better off paying $25-30 for one of their (small) pizzas or skipping this place all together. You've been warned. read more
