We have unrivaled Latin cuisines at home, including Colombian, Cuban, and Puerto Rican, but Argentinian seems less prominent. The owner Roque is a really genuine and thoughtful guy. He lit up when I told him my first and probably last (for a while) visit was delicious. That's how you know you're in for a treat; when someone who's been in this business 30+ years is just as excited as the first time when you commend their craft. If you're lucky enough to try here, enjoy!

We were greeting by a friendly staff member, perhaps the owner, who helped us with our empanada selection. We got spicy chicken, spicy beef, corn, and criolla empanadas. I strongly recommend the Criolla empanada, which is the most traditional, Argentinian empanada. It has ground beef, raisins, eggs, green onions, and spices. It was absolutely delicious and, when I go back, I will select this empanada!! I also recommend the corn empanadas (humita), especially if you're looking for a vegetarian option. It has corn, melted mozzarella, and white sauce. So delicious! I got these to go, but there are cute tables indoors and outdoors if you want to enjoy your empanadas there. They also sell mate and other Argentinian goodies like alfajores. Prices are reasonable; you can purchase just a few or a dozen. This has become my favorite empanada place!

Only thing that was kind of frustrating was we went to the one by the mall, but there was no parking inside so we left and came to this one only to find out it closed in 10 minutes! Lol The guava and cheese empanada I had was delicious, but I didn't taste any cheese per se, unless it was mixed in with the guava itself. It was delicious and tasted like fresh guava nothing from a can or a job. I can't wait to come back here in the morning and try other empanadas.

My personal favorites are the Dulce de Leche and the Filipino Beef! Yesterday, I went back and go the Dulce de Leche as a midday snack. Perfect snack and sweet treat! This is a place I would recommend time and time again!

I've had Nonna's at Ubatuba Acai locations where they often have a smaller select variety. Grabbing a late lunch I discovered their 2 Empanadas and a Basic Drink deal for a reasonable price. The Beyond Meat and Samosa Veggie side by side spoke to me and I was grateful for the flavors. I didn't expect the Beyond Meat Empanada to be filled with a thick cut slice as the inside of most are blended flavors and ingredients like ones I've had before. Good variety of canned beverages and bottled water. They take cash, card and tap payment. You can dine in or takeout. Seating at Grand Central Market is very first come first serve, which means you can even grab more things elsewhere or even dine outside. We tried the guava, Nutella, ham, and bacon empanadas. The savory ones had a nice balance of filling without feeling too heavy, and the pastry itself was warm and satisfying. The guava was probably my favorite surprise--sweet and fruity without being overly sugary. The Nutella was also a great dessert option, especially while it was still warm. I like that you can mix and match different flavors, so it's an easy snack to share and try several at once. Perfect little stop while exploring the market, whether you want something savory or you're craving something sweet. Simple, tasty, and convenient. I'd definitely grab a few again next time I'm here.

I wasn't expecting there to be so many different empanadas to choose from, so I took a while deciding. He was really patient, answered all my questions, explained the different options, and gave me some great recommendations. I ended up getting the Beef, Chili Carne, Chicken, Spicy Potato, Santa Fe Chicken, and Spinach & Cheese empanadas. They were all really good, and I liked that they let me choose from three different sauces/salsas to go with them. Everything came out quickly and was packaged really well. They even included a list showing which empanada was which, which I really appreciated since they all looked pretty similar once they were in the box. I actually came for the empanadas, but they also had fresh pasta and decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did because it was excellent. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, the sauce was delicious, and honestly I'd come back just for the pasta. There are still a bunch of things on the menu I want to try, especially the sweet empanadas, so I'm already looking forward to my next visit. They all had amazing flavor. The order came with a big serving of chimichurri and that was a nice addition to the empanadas. What started out as a five star review for this Place ended up being a two star. I came to the counter and asked if they were going to have any more Samosa Veggie. I was told it would take a half an hour so I sat down and waited for a half an hour, went up to the counter and asked do they have any available? They said the guy that baked them just went on break and it's gonna take another 20 minutes. That is totally unacceptable for them to tell me they would have some in a half an hour and then completely ignored me and just went ahead and did their own thing. It was a cute hole in the wall, and I could see someone hand kneading and rolling the dough in the kitchen, which was heartwarming to see. I love different cultural foods that make LA what it is today. I ordered: Beef saltenas (3/5) - dry overall, sweet and savory veggie beef stew inside; comes with a watery green sauce Chicken saltenas (3/5) - similar to beef saltenas Cheese empanadas (2/5) - 90% bread with a bland, thin spread of bland cheese. It was puffed up and empty. Rollos de queso (1/5) - so dry, almost choked, little to no cheese & all bread Cuñapes (1/5) - tastes like a sweet version of the brazilian cheese bread appetizer at fogo de chao, except this is one is super dry as well and makes you cough for water I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately missed the mark. For a little over $20, it was definitely worth trying but I wouldn't go back.
