    Pastries and empanadas

Really cute and delicious cafe near the Van Nuys courthouse. We stopped in for coffee and pastries. It's a small family owned place serving Bolivian pastries and small bites. The owner was super welcoming. They have a small dining area if you would like to eat there, or you can take your food to go. They had sweet options, as well as savory. It was the perfect stop for a quick bite to eat.

La comida me lleva a casa. Servicio increíble, gran ambiente. ¡Las saltenas son deliciosas! Food takes me home. Amazing service, great atmosphere. Saltenas are delicious!

Very hospitable service! I wanted just one potato ball and they accommodated me. The place is small but very clean. And they kitchen is open so you can see them cook with fresh ingredients.

I love supporting small, local businesses! No one will serve you better than a business owner and their handpicked employees. Great little café I found exactly when I needed one as I waited for my car repairs. My Latte was good. Didn't order anything else but enjoyed my break in the peaceful dining room. (Indoor & outdoor seating). Their food options look seductive. The Pique a lo Macho and Silpancho look alluring, just to name two lunch plates. Hope to come back. No complaints.

Food/drink were unacceptable Breakfast sandwich was horrible. Basically a Bimbo bread sandwich with some egg and Oscar Meyer meat with cheese that was glue like. Saleteña was a saucy and cold disaster. Iced latte was a glass of milk with coffee flavoring. Americano was coffee flavored water. 40 dollars for this and it went straight to the trash. So upset.

Overall I am REALLY happy I stopped by Pao's! It's a super tiny shop and the one worker I interacted with was very nice. I went with a chicken saltena, cheese empanada, and three alfajores which totaled about $14. The cheese empanada was tasty but a bit disappointing, as my photo shows - WHERE is the cheese!? You get a super thin filling on the bottom of the dough and that's about it. But the dough itself has so much flavor I was really shocked by it, in a good way. The saltena however was to die for. It was hefty and filled so much with tender chicken, veggies, and plenty of jus. The alfajores were delicious too! Soft cookies with thick dulce de leche and crispy coconut. My only wish is that they have options without being rolled in coconut as I like it more without and would also love to bring some to a co-worker who is allergic to coconut. I'll definitely be back for more regardless!

But honestly, we keep coming back mainly for the meat. Their parrilla is LOVE. Perfect for sharing with 3-4 people, incredibly flavorful and always satisfying. And the desserts... they're so cozy and delicious, they honestly taste like something my grandma would bake for me :) Warm, homemade and impossible to resist. Another huge plus is the pricing, very reasonable for the quality and portions you get. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, which makes the whole experience even better. As a welcoming…read morestarter, we were served warm, crusty French bread accompanied by their flavorful chimichurri sauce. The bread was fresh and perfectly complemented the bright, herbaceous chimichurri. For our entrées, we enjoyed the Thursday daily special, Merluza de Pappilletto, tenderly baked white fish sitting on a layered bed of potatoes and spinach, which was beautifully prepared and packed with delicate flavors and served with a lemon caper cream sauce on the side. Delicious! We also ordered the Churrasco de Lomo, grilled filet mignon steak topped with chimichurri butter. The menu specified "Two 6 oz. filet mignon steaks" so we were confused that the plate arrived with only one piece of meat. It does specify an option to get a 12 oz filet for $30 or a 6 oz for $17. Maybe that's what they meant about "two"? Who knows....Although the steak was tender & flavorful, it wasn't cooked medium rare as we requested rather it was more on the well-done side. However, the chimichurri butter that topped it added a rich and delicious finishing touch. The side dishes were equally impressive. The Arroz Azafrán, a paella-style rice, was fragrant, flavorful, and a perfect accompaniment to both entrées. The Crema de Espinaca featured creamy spinach with Parmesan that was rich, comforting, and wonderfully balanced. To finish the meal, we shared the tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to an excellent dinner. It was light, creamy, and not overly sweet, with just the right amount of coffee flavor. I think there can be improvements to be made on their service. There was only one wait staff taking care of the whole restaurant so there were moments of lengthy wait times, totally not his fault. They need to hire at least one more person to help out. Also take note of the bill, they automatically add a 3% "Kitchen" gratuity which I've never seen before so you might want to take this into consideration when applying the tip. The food & presentation was great overall. Mercado Buenos Aires delivers authentic flavors, high-quality ingredients, and a warm atmosphere that would want me to return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an exceptional Argentine dining experience.

The 2 glass meat display refrigerators were not working and parts of the metal case had come undone. The floor was dirty and who knows when it was last cleaned. I ordered 12 chicken empanadas.
