    Beef empanada

I came here about 40 mins before closing and ordered a few empanadas and an order of lumpia. There were two girls in the front (main cashier was very friendly and a trainee who was a bit shy). Due to me going before closing I wasn't able to try to pork adobo or mango pineapple seasonal empanadas unfortunately but they looked and sound amazing. Now onto the food; the beef empanada was phenomenal and packed with flavor, the dough has a slight sweet taste but fluffy and crispy edges. The chicken fajita empanada was also very tasty but less seasoning. The chicken empanada with potatoes, carrots and peas was a bit bland and I likely won't get it again. The lumpia was tasty and had a great crunch but their dipping sauce was the star, some of the best lumpia sauce I've ever eaten. Overall, this place was clean, fairly quick and yummy.

I ate some right away! Soooo delicious

The Best empanadas I have ever tried! The empanadas' crusts are flaky and delicious. I bought 2 dozens of chicken empanadas. The filling is so delicious and really yummy. I usually eat it once I go to my car because I prefer it hot! The service is very fast. The lady who helped me was very friendly and nice. The place: Is located in Island Pacific seafood market It is the last place on you left side. Parking: No problem at all! It's a huge plaza. I am a great fan of Josephine's empanadas . I go very frequently there although it's the first time to write a review about the place. It's a great place to try and enjoy the every single bite of deliciousness!

Baked goods are perfect! Always been satisfied with their services! However, please be mindful about egg shells left in the ingredients

Before the Lenten season began I was able to try their chicken and Philly cheese steak empanadas. They were good. I especially enjoyed the light and flaky crust, but was soft and chewy where the fillings are. My favorite though is tuna melt. On our next visit we got a dozen tuna and a dozen chicken because everything else were sold out. We vowed to get more the next time around. They also sell regular flavor, ube macapuno, and buko pandan bibingka (steamed then broiled rice cakes) but we did not get any. Went back for my third visit and noted that this time they were closed. Hope to see them re-open when we win this fight against Covid-19.

This store is situated inside Island Pacific, adjacent to the left entrance of the market. I paid $32 and some change (inc tax) for 10 chicken empanadas ($2.50 each) and 2 bibingkas, one of which was ube. Overall it's a great value. The filling to dough was a good ratio. The chicken had good flavor--the kind I like and look for in Filipino-style empanadas. The bibingkas were moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweetened. I'd go out of my way again for these (coming from west SGV). They'd make such good treats and gifts.

The empeñadas are inside the island market

I spent like 10 min looking for this place. It's inside the market. I had to call and walk around the market. But the empeñadas were worth the trouble looking for. I tried the chicken one because it was all that was left and it was delicious. I was just trying to get two but since I used card I had to get four and I ended up eating three. I would definitely come back and try other flavors.

Josephine knows what she's doing when they're doing it. Each and every empanada I had was amazing. So good I had to purchase more and share it with friends!!! Ambiance was cool and set a nice chill vibe. This place made my miss traveling and discovering a variety of foods made in a different way. So beautiful to eat and try something new like the ube cake dessert with the cream cheese and egg

Don't waste your money. Their empanadas have poor quality and not worth the money. Go somewhere else.

It was hard to bite into them. The beef one lacked flavor, Pizza one was overtly salty, but the spinach cheese one was very good(2 stars just for the flavor of this one). The place is cute however their AC must be broken cause it's so hot inside. It's uncomfortable to eat there in that heat. No I wouldn't come back here again. Nonnas or Tito's is so much better

Who said you can't review a closed restaurant? I checked Yelp's policy, and there's no restriction…read moreon reviewing a closed one. But why am I writing about food from a restaurant that has already closed? Let's begin the story. It was January 2023 when I walked into the restaurant. A Messi poster in WPAP (Wedha's Pop Art Portrait) style was hanging on the wall, and a FIFA World Cup Trophy sat on the counter. It was less than a month after Argentina won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Messi as the team leader. They were also selling thermos flasks and phone cases painted with the Argentina football team. I had known this was an Argentine restaurant for a long time, dating back to 2016. I used to live in Glendora Village, just a ten-minute walk to the restaurant by crossing the railway. I didn't know the word "empanadas" before I came to Rika's, even though I had eaten similar food before. In China, there is Uyghur/Muslim food called "baked dumplings," stuffed with seasoned minced lamb, which are almost the same as empanadas. Compared with deep-fried empanadas, Rika's baked version was less oily, with more wheat flour aroma. Their empanada wrap also had a hint of sweetness, which made it very special. The first time I walked past the restaurant, on a random afternoon in 2016, I ordered four different empanadas to take away. At that time, they were $2.35 each. The restaurant was so kind that they wrote the flavor names on the food box. I still remember the experience-those empanadas were hot, aromatic, cheesy, and well-balanced. I was too full to have dinner that night. Later, I brought my family and friends to dine there. Not only were the empanadas delicious, but the deep-dish pizza, salads, and other dishes were also excellent. Let's talk about the empanadas. They had 16 different fillings, from simple ones like beef, sweet beef, spicy beef, ham & cheese, blue cheese, and onion & cheese, to more unique ones. What was interesting was that each filling had its own shape. Regular beef was half-round, sweet beef had both corners folded up, spicy beef had only the left corner folded up, and so on. FATAY (Arabian empanadas) were triangular, while bacon & prunes were square. I tried almost all the different fillings, and they were all good--never disappointing. Even after I moved to Pasadena, I still went back there. Then COVID-19 came. The restaurant closed for a short while, then reopened for takeout only, no dine-in. By June 2022, the price had risen to $2.85 each. By January 2023, it was $3.10 each. By June 2025, they closed permanently. I miss Rika's empanadas. I hope the chef is still baking them somewhere else. If so, please let me know.

All empanadas we tried had perfect crust and the filling was delectable and scrumptious. - A beef  milanesa sandwich  5/5 breaded fried aye of round beef (mayonnaise lettuce, tomatoes. The sandwich was both  huge and delicious. - A Four seasons pizza; This pizza was divided into four quarters with four different toppings ; the first quater was Ham & pineapple, the second quarter was pepperoni, the last two quarters are ham & red bell peppers then tomato garlic and mushrooms with green olives. The toppings were generous and very flavorful, and the crust enhanced the toppings. This Four Seasons Pizza was perfect and convenient. Everyone in my family got what they wanted. Finally, I got  nutella Sweet crepe (5/5) for dessert. It had nice texture and the chocolate hazelnut was rich and creamy. We enjoyed our dinner ,verything was delicious and flavorful.. It is a great food to try! I definitely recommend Rika's Empanadas.

The employee helping us was very kind, apologetic, and explained they've been having issues with the Covina location's online ordering system. We ordered the Duet Kabob entrée. Overall, the food was good. The beef was especially tender and flavorful, I actually enjoyed it more than the chicken. The hummus was a little bland for my taste. I also paid extra for a side of garlic paste, but it wasn't included with the order. I didn't realize it until I got home, so I should have checked the bag before leaving. The prices also seemed a bit high compared to other Mediterranean restaurants we've visited, where similar meals are more reasonably priced. The restaurant itself looked a little dated and could use some attention. It didn't feel very clean, and the entrance seemed cluttered with gates and signs, which didn't make for the most inviting first impression. Overall, the food was enjoyable, especially the beef, but between the online ordering issue, the missing item, the atmosphere, and the higher prices, I felt the experience could have been better.

The shop has a total of eight tables, both indoor and outdoor to enjoy your treats.. I had to wait a few minutes because the cheese empanadas were piping hot as the young lady handed it to me. It smelled so darn good. I almost burnt my tongue when I bit into it. It was so delicious, bursting with flavor. Highly recommend this shop for these yummy treats. Shop locals' from small businesses. The shop feels like a hometown favorite as locals stop by and spoke to the young lady at the counter like they've known each other for some time.
