I've had Josephine's empanadas in the past from a yelp experience years ago at their other location. I remember I really liked their empanadas then so I had to cop a few to eat. While walking inside Island Pacific Supermarket, I notice they are set up now right across the bakery. Josephine's new set up is a small little booth serving up their delicious bite size empanadas. The options are beef, chicken and tuna. At the time the beef was sold out so I got one chicken and one tuna. They are priced at $2.75 per. The staff were so kind and welcoming I felt well taken care of. These empanadas look small but they are soft and flaky. They packed em well with protein and can fill you up. If you need something fast to eat these empanadas will do the trick. They are a quick service spot so I ordered a chicken and tuna one to go. I came here about 40 mins before closing and ordered a few empanadas and an order of lumpia. There were two girls in the front (main cashier was very friendly and a trainee who was a bit shy). Due to me going before closing I wasn't able to try to pork adobo or mango pineapple seasonal empanadas unfortunately but they looked and sound amazing. Now onto the food; the beef empanada was phenomenal and packed with flavor, the dough has a slight sweet taste but fluffy and crispy edges. The chicken fajita empanada was also very tasty but less seasoning. The chicken empanada with potatoes, carrots and peas was a bit bland and I likely won't get it again. The lumpia was tasty and had a great crunch but their dipping sauce was the star, some of the best lumpia sauce I've ever eaten. Overall, this place was clean, fairly quick and yummy. read more

When I arrived at the register there was a middle-aged looking man at the register who was glued to his phone and did not look at my direction. I waited for about five minutes. Workers were all over the place, yet no one greeted me or acknowledged I was there. I just walked out. Very disrespectful. Sorry I came here. I won't again. Even though they have a big "no phone at work" sign visible in the back that customers can see from the register, the employees are not respecting it, goofing off on their devices, ignoring customers and ruining the business. Before the Lenten season began I was able to try their chicken and Philly cheese steak empanadas. They were good. I especially enjoyed the light and flaky crust, but was soft and chewy where the fillings are. My favorite though is tuna melt. On our next visit we got a dozen tuna and a dozen chicken because everything else were sold out. We vowed to get more the next time around. They also sell regular flavor, ube macapuno, and buko pandan bibingka (steamed then broiled rice cakes) but we did not get any. Went back for my third visit and noted that this time they were closed. I paid $32 and some change (inc tax) for 10 chicken empanadas ($2.50 each) and 2 bibingkas, one of which was ube. Overall it's a great value. The filling to dough was a good ratio. The chicken had good flavor--the kind I like and look for in Filipino-style empanadas. The bibingkas were moist, flavorful, and perfectly sweetened. A nice little hidden gem where you can get some delicious lunch/snacks for a very reasonable price. The empanadas are all very flakey and moist on the inside, and are all packed full of delicious fillings of your choice. They might not look like much from the outside, but a few bites and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was looking for traditional empanadas, but couldn't find any in my area. I saw reviews for this place on yelp and since I'm a big yelp fan decided why not to try them. The bread was sweet and the meat was savory. Sweet like a Hawaiian roll. Bread wasn't soggy at all was nice and firm. like what you would expect from an empanada. Cons: The only way I found this place was through looking at pictures on yelp and reading customer reviews. It's located in a supermarket and there's no sign outside the supermarket that says Josephines is any part of that supermarket. Okay, everyone hating on these empanadas below CLEARLY have not had Filipino empanadas. Are they going to taste unlike traditional empanadas from Latin countries? NO. Been a fan of their empanadas for years. Visited today and grabbed a dozen chicken empanadas. They were delicious as always. Great crust and moist yummy filling. Few notes about this place. First, it is located INSIDE the Island pacific on your LEFT and to the RIGHT of the register for the Philhouse restaurant. Go through the entrance and PAST the Philhouse restaurant by the door and look for a red food display case and the Josephine line should be there. Don't confuse the Josephine line with the Philhouse line! I arrived today and wasted lots of time lining up in that other line. Josephine's should definitely add signage to make their presence more prominent and the location of their separate line much more obvious so as to avoid wasting their customers time! Second, there is a $10 minimum for using credit cards so bring cash if you intend to spend less than that. I paid $26.46 for a dozen empanadas. read more

First of all, we got lost looking for this store when in fact, it's just inside Island Pacific and is part of the cooked food area, NO SIGNAGE that tells you it's Josephine's! Everytime I go there and try to order steak empanadas the employees say it is SOLD OUT. Whether I come in the morning , afternoon or end of day they are "sold out". I asked the employee how they could be sold out and they simply don't make it all the time. The owner isn't interested in functioning as a real business . But doesn't matter because this place is DIRTY. Lady at the counter wears gloves, picks up chicken empanadas and packs it in a box and then proceeds to ring up the cash register wearing the SAME gloves and then continues to help the next customer with the SAME gloves .
