Man- can I give no stars? So long story short, we were given an email to send a message to, we did and they are not going to do anything. And when we asked for a full written assessment they said they cannot do that but sent a recap summary in an email. After I wrote my review, we were asked to email customer service so they could help us. My husband sent the email right away on March 5. We never received a response so he sent a follow up email right at the end of March. We finally received a response in April 3. Basically they are saying that the person who came out to our property was incorrect and that by looking at the pictures, they have decided the cause of the damage is due to environmental factors. This is despite what the worker, who saw it in person, said and the fact that we have had floors installed (by empire) before and had no issues. So they said they will refund the $150 they charged us for the person who came out in person to assess the issue. Super disappointed and will obviously never use this company again. We had a very disappointing experience with this company from start to finish. Communication was poor throughout the entire project. They consistently arrived much later than the times they gave us, and it was nearly impossible to get someone to answer the phone or return our calls. We were told the installation would take two days, but it ended up taking three, with very little communication about the delays. What was especially frustrating was that, in the middle of the installation, they asked us for the remaining payment. We had already paid a $1,000 down payment, and we were specifically told that the balance wouldn't be due until the entire installation was complete. Asking for the final payment before finishing the job felt unprofessional and went against what we had agreed upon. To make matters worse, the carpet quality has been a huge disappointment. We were assured that the carpet we selected was high quality, but it is noticeably worse than the carpet we replaced, which had lasted us 13 years. The new carpet feels lower quality and has not lived up to the expectations that were set during the sales process. An update to the this review. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a quick response from the customer manager from Empire. I did what they asked by sending my contact information to a provided email so they can assist in resolving this review. I did it the following day. That was February 11th (Day 24). It is now February 16th (Day 29) and they never replied or followed up to that email. It appears they want to appear responsive on Yelp to seem like a caring company, but their actions have once again proved that they are not accountable to their product. First of all let me start by saying that the 5 stars are attributed "ENTIRELY to the salesperson Ms Daphne Lloyd, the flooring installers Anibal & his partner whose name escapes me and the carpet installers Ignacio, Carlos & Lazaro. They all were very meticulous making sure that everything was done with precision excellence and I learned so much on carpet and flooring installation that the money spent just for the installation was well worth it. It takes a lot to put flooring down correctly and carpet seamlessly, and when I say seamlessly meaning you cannot see where the seams are in my carpet. Now for the not so good. Sadly I must give the customer service department 1 . Granted all the service reps that answered the telephone were very professional and friendly. However, when transferring to the people that I needed to speak with regarding my concerns with my revised contract fell on deaf ears. I asked to speak to someone named Hugo who was supposed to be the installation supervisor ( per my sales rep) to answer my question regarding the revisions on my contract and I was simply sent to an unnamed voicemail beep, so I left a message indicating that I needed to speak with Hugo and I never received a call back. That was in December. I therefore went to the next step and I sent an email. I did receive an email response from Ms Sandra Lugo, Area Accounting Associate (slugo@empire-today.com) who matter-of-factly told me in the email that my request for an itemized list of charges could not be provided since their pricing was ALL-INCLUSIVE and yes she put that in caps! My reason for the request was that the revised contract "I agreed to" was for additional work to the concrete flooring but after further review of my revised contract I noticed that a line was added for an "excessive furniture move" which I had none of, and the installers agreed that they only moved standard furniture and appliances. Therefore I felt that I possibly was charged for something that was not accurate. I sent Sandra a 2nd email and she simply ignored me! The worst Customer Service I've ever experienced. I was all set for my carpet install on May 9 which they canceled the day before... Emptied the rooms. They rescheduled me for the following Saturday, May 16 and canceled the night before as well so for two weeks I was sleeping on my sofa with my entire upstairs downstairs. Customer Service was extremely hard to get a hold of no callbacks. I had to keep hounding and hounding. For all of my inconvenience, they offered me $150 off of the job. I had family visiting from out of town, which cost me a ton to put them up in a hotel. Now onto carpet installation, they left a giant mess outside my garage an entire roll of padding and many piece pieces of cut up carpet that I had to pick up and hauled to the dumpster. The Empire team did a great job from start to finish. Jessie who lead the installation to Joseph who created the order and helped with our selection process. The individuals who took our calls were respectful and upbeat. The pricing was negotiable and far less than we had budgeted for. We were informed along the way what was going to happen and when. The online instructional videos helped clarify our role in the process and what we needed to remove to start the job. Jessie listened well and did everything we requested. I would definitely use Empire again. I would have liked to get carpeting that better matched our current carpet. So perhaps carpet samples that have a wider range of choices. Perhaps the client might be asked what color scheme they are looking for and the sales person could bring specific samples to match the desired need. I also don't recall mentioned or encouragement towards evaluate the different and/or unique carpet style/text. I would not recommend Empire to do any tile work. They apparently have no in-house installers and have to contract out the service, not something disclosed by the sales person. I spent over $5500 for a poor to installation. We had a major issue with the grout. The installer was fixated on blaming the water from our garden hose. This is San Diego city water, some of the most expensive water in the world and the same water he would be getting for any project in the city of San Diego. The grout came out in at least 3 different shades. (Most likely a bad lot number of grout or it was poorly mixed with the water.) He proposed 2 possible solutions: let it continue drying for several more days or re-grout. I chose re-grouting...probably the wrong choice. Removing the grout required a small power saw and A LOT more dust. The guys doing the work nicked the edges of lots of the tiles and also took divots out of the surface of some other tiles. The new grout was applied unevenly. This left spaces with no grout or holes in the grout. Also, dark shadows were being cast over other areas of grout because a fair amount of it was not brought up high enough to the upper edges of the tiles making it look darker than other areas. I showed all of this to the installer in charge. He promised to make it right. That was the last I heard from him. Empire tried rescheduling twice, but the installer backed out both times, and both times, my husband and I wasted entire days waiting for him to show up. I have given up trying to get any satisfaction out of this company or the installer. I have also ordered a big area rug to cover up the $5500 floor. I would NEVER use Empire again. Prior to our appointment on May 15, 2025 we received a call reminding us of our appointment and the young lady asked if "all the decision makers were going to be there?" I felt like if we were going to buy a timeshare. On May 15, 2025 the sales person Larry was showing us the product after a lengthy getting to know each other conversation. This was a little bit annoying. We were looking to add LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) to our manufactured home. Larry was pushing their 45% laminate sale but we liked the LVP better plus the laminate is of lower quality. We had already been to two other flooring companies and obtained pricing and signed the contract with Empire because of their service plan. We scheduled for installation on Saturday May 17, 2025. On Friday May 16, 1025, I get a call from Larry stating that the manufacturer of the LVP is recommending NOT to install the LVP on our manufactured home. And he again tried to push the laminate for the same price. I did my research and LVP is one of the flooring that it is recommended to install in manufactured homes. I told him that we signed a contract for LVP and I did NOT like him switching the contract to a cheaper product for the same price. We decided to cancel the contract because Empire was very cheesy and I feel that they were trying to take advantage of an elderly and middle aged females by changing the contract without our consent. Spent close to $5000 on carpet throughout my house in San Diego, the primary bedroom has rippled and raised carpet throughout. I have called numerous times to discuss how I feel this shouldn't be happening, they tell me that since it's been over a year that it's a maintenance issue and not a poor installation job by the initial installers (that drove from Los Angeles). I spoke with someone this week from the local San Diego office who said it would be $275 for the overall repair which they termed maintenance and she added just to show how poorly they treat their customers that it's $45 extra dollars to move each furniture item. Terrible customer service. Our sales rep initially was helpful and knowledgeable, then got pushy about signing the contract, getting the floors done fast, stating they could start in 1 day. After the installers came out, they ripped out our old carpeting in the living room, hallway and bedroom then checked the level of the floors. After he checked the leveling, it was not flat enough for the hardwood floors. We were given two options, self leveling compound or go back to a new carpet. The self leveling compound was going to be around $3,000 plus 4-6 days out of our condo. We said we could not do that since we have 4 pets. So we had the sales rep come out to take a look at carpet options. He kept pushing us to stick with the hardwood option and get the leveling done. We kept saying no, it will cost way too much and we can't take the cats anywhere. Once he heard "no", his tone changed and attitude. Once we picked the carpet out, he said install can't happen for a week. We asked about the 1 day/Next day install and he said not available. Did not show us anything or check his ipad, just said no. It has now been the week we waited, having bare floors and nails sticking out of the flooring. We got a call in the morning that the installers have our supplies at 7:40am. At 3pm the installers showed up, came upstairs and told us that they could not install it due to the paperwork not stating it needed the carpet-hardwood transition strips. So we tried to call Customer Service to figure out what is the next step. Customer service called us back at 5pm...stating the Local San Diego office closes at 2pm. Looking at all these 1 star reviews and find it hard to believe. I had only pleasant experiences from the customer service reps, the salesperson, Frank and Jorge, the installer. I LOVE my new carpet! I am not a carpet lover, but I have 4 dogs and 1 cat in an upstairs condo. I opted for their HOME FRESH personal brand. This is a game changer. Any pee on the carpet is easily cleaned up with water. And this type of carpet does not retain odors:)))) I was given a 20% discount, witch really helped with the final cost. Thank you! read more

I'm giving them a single star since the sales team were really nice. Other than that, they changed the scheduled installation date several times without giving me a reason or contacting me other than sending me a change order to approve. By the third time, I had lost all confidence in their being able to complete the job and decided to cancel the entire order. This was my experience...you may have different results. That said, I can't recommend them. read more

We had carpet installed in 2018 and at the beginning it looked good but not too long it starts to roll up in every room. It's supposed to be high quality carpet so I'm thinking it's probably due to how it was installed and likely not enough slack was taken out. I reached out to the company a while ago and nothing so I figured I'd post my finding here. We almost didn't go with them because the sales guy was rude to my wife but the manager convinced us to go with them. Here's some pictures of the rolls which is in every room and hallway. Update 10/15/2024: I got an email saying they would contact me within 3 business days. Well, 3 business days have passed, and nothing. This is what happened last time I reached out to them. Update 10/17/2024: I got online with a recorded person who essentially told me I'd have to pay for a carpet restretch. They don't want to attempt to make it right; they want to just get you on the phone to record you. I wouldn't do business with this company at all. They won't even assess the situation. I made an appointment with the seller on Friday, and he scheduled the installation for Tuesday. I paid my deposit at that time. When the installer arrived, I immediately noticed that the carpet quality was extremely poor. I called the company right away and requested to switch to a different carpet. However, their new offer was unreasonably expensive, so I decided to cancel the contract. Despite the fact that no work was done, they refused to return my deposit. The billing department declined my request for a refund. This feels like fraud, as they provided no service at all.They shold refund my money immediately. read more

In December of 2020 my husband and I had LVP flooring and Carpet installed in our house by the Colorado Springs branch. It's been terrible from the beginning. They took inches off of the steps by putting a 2x4 at the back of it and then attaching the LVP. We now have multiple places cracking and peeling. And we are being told we have to pay for the fix because we are out of warranty. On top of also being told the floor is scratch resistant and it's clearly not. DO NOT go with Empire today. They are a scam. They had to put a layer on the subfloor to make it all level but it didn't work so now there's movement and it's causing the tiles to crack where they put the barrier down. I will update once we get the ridiculous quote of how much it's going to cost to repair. read more

We contracted to put a new floor in our bathroom after putting in a new shower stall. We chose LVP. The floor has been installed and looks incredibly cheap. The installer did not remove existing baseboards, cut the floor to fit inside the baseboards then proceeded to nail white quarter round on top of the wall colored blue gray baseboard. Looks ridiculous. We have been in contact with Walter Salas in installation. While he agrees the installation is not as it shoudl be when he has gone to the general manager, he is told to say no. We had three bedrooms recarpeted after 16 years. The sales rep came out to show samples, measure, and provide a quote. We accepted, and the installers came. Our old carpet did not have huge stains or buckles. 1 year and 3 months after the brand new carpet was installed, all three rooms have buckles. Not only buckles, but also stains and discoloration. My old carpet of 16 years looked newer then this 1 year 6 month old carpet. When we called Empire to ask them to help, they said we were past the warranty date and it would cost $250 to come stretch it. They also gave me the sales rep's number. When he answered, he said he didn't even work at Empire anymore. I asked him why they would give me his phone number if he no longer worked there. He acted like he was stoned. I could not get help from anyone because the installers are independent contractors, never to be found!!! I guess that is the best way for them to do business so that no one is accountable. The cause was moisture, because the installer rolled out the carpet on water while outside. I noticed after it was already installed. What was I going to do? My mom had severe pain in both hips at the time, and she was already unable to lie down in her bed for 3 hours. I just thought the carpet would dry, which it did, but with buckles and water stains. I was told by the sales rep that the new carpet would be better than the old. He said there would be less carpet fiber in the vacuum barrel. That was a lie also. My vacuum barrel is full of carpet fiber every time I vacuum. read more

Beware. We have used Empire Today in San Diego County 3 times. In 2020 we had "Luxury Vinyl Planking" installed in our mobile home living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry and hallway. When we made the purchase we were told we have a lifetime warranty on product and installation. Last week I phoned them and then sent photos of separations of the planking with the expectation they would send someone to review the problem and resolve it for us. Unfortunately all we received was an offer to send a salesman to sell us more flooring...are you kidding me. We paid top dollar for this product and installation and while the flooring appears it has held up as expected, there is obviously some issue with the installation or product. We were told the separation is due to seasonal weather changes...this is San Diego...there is hardly what anyone would call a seasonal change to effect VINYL...this is not a wood flooring product. So disappointed. We are just ready to build a retirement home and will not be using or ever recommending Empire Today again for flooring. Sad the disconnect between sales and service...I guess they are so big they don't care about the customer. read more
