DO NOT USE EMPIRE!! We were having pictures taken to sell our condo and we needed some new carpet. Empire "confirmed" our installation appointment once but then cancelled. Rescheduled for a few days later and then CANCELLED AGAIN! Our pictures were scheduled for a few days after that and they could not come out in time (as if I would've trusted you guys a third time, jerks) This awful corporation has the balls to make you confirm your appointments and then cancels them. I had a Seinfeld conversation with them on the phone about what exactly the meaning of "confirm" is and they couldn't answer me. The only explanation they offered was that there wasn't enough installers available to come out...YOU WERE THE ONES THAT "CONFIRMED" THE APPOINTMENT WITH ME YOU MORONS!! How can you "confirm" an appointment without making sure there are enough installers?? Again this happened TWICE! F*** YOU!!! Do yourself a favor and go to a local store. Carpet Land on Rt 7 near baileys crossroads saved us and were much cheaper then Empire, delivered and installed our carpet an hour after we went in and ordered it. Again I can't stress this enough - DO NOT USE EMPIRE!!!!!!!!! Worst customer service I have ever seen. I purchased carpet for my house over 2 1/2 years ago. I have had so many issues with it bubbling and matting down. They have had to come restrech the carpet last year. Now the entire upstairs (3 bedrooms, hallway and stairs)is bubbling to point of tripping over it. Scheduled 3 times 8am to 6pm and no one showed 3 times. I regret a lot of things in my life, but Empire is definitely my biggest regret. The first time empire offered and discount if we set up a second appointment, which we did. So we set up a second appointment and the driver gets in an accident and then notifies us 2 hours late that he will not be coming.He then also confirms with me via cell and text that he will be out the next Friday. So can I take off from work again to stay home and wait. Again a no show - 3 weeks straight. We purchased in a home in May 2022 that had Empire Today install laminate floors in May 2020. The previous owner left us the receipt so I new the color and Empire Today codes for the product. A few pieces were broken and we wanted to buy a couple of boxes of flooring to have on hand. Empire Today stated flatly, that the house was not the customer -- only the person who purchased the floor could buy more floor. They sent a sales rep out and he said they would NOT honor the warranty to replace the broken boards and they wouldn't take on a repair job. He even had the gall to tell us that the floor they installed was CRAP and that it should all be replaced -- of course Empire Today was more than willing to sell us a new floor. I called several Empire Today locations throughout the West Coast and got the same response. They wouldn't even tell me the Manufacturer of the floor so that we could try to match it. Finally, I was able to find the Warranty Page left to us by the previous Owner. Turns out it's Mohawk RevWood Laminate Flooring. I was able to order from a distributor to solve my problem -- but NO Thanks to Empire Today. read more

Empire made it clear that I(the customer) would have to remove the stair railing before they could install new hardwood stairs. I begrudgingly remove my own stair railing one day prior to the installation date, which did create an unsafe situation for my family The Installation team shows up (on a Monday) stating that they would need to "go to Home Depot" to find parts needed to build the front face of my hardwood stairs. They assured me that they would return on Wednesday (two days later) to do the job. On Wednesday nobody shows up and i am only able to reach a voice mail box when calling the Empire Installation department. I called two or three more times before reaching out to someone in Customer Service on Thursday. The customer service rep said that no install date had been scheduled for me, and offered to reschedule me 6 days from the time that i finally reached the customer service department. This new date was 9 days later than the original date. This new date I pushed back, stating that this would create a prolonged safety issue within my home (due to lack of stair railing). She checked with the "install manager", who was able to offer an install date of just one day sooner. The install manager refused to have anything to do with the stairwell and it would be my responsibility to re-install the stairwell they they told me to remove prior to the Monday appointment, and them remove it again prior to the new date that they gave me.... really classy empire! I have spent over $8k with them and will be taking my future business elsewhere. read more

The carpet is beautiful and the installation was super fast and they installed the carpet 2 days after the estimate... BUT the walls now have dings, handprints and scratches. I was so disappointed as we had just had the painters finish painting a few days before the carpet installation. Would have used them again for the rest of our house, but the cost to have my painters to come back for all the rooms is too much. read more

If I could give negative five stars, I would. The salesman was pleasant enough, and good at his job, but felt somewhat like a used car salesman with the whole "I'll call my manager and try to get a better price for you." The quote ended up being way higher than I was expecting, but like I said, the salesman was good at his job, so I put a deposit down on my credit card with installation scheduled for five days later. When the installation day came (after we prepped for days at my home trying to clear everything out except for large furniture), we received a call saying that installation was cancelled due to illness. I understand that there is an abundance of caution now due to covid, but I was still upset. We turned our house upside down for several days in preparation of the installation. The woman who called to cancel our appointment stated we could re-schedule, but I decided to just cancel altogether. She stated we would get our deposit back. The salesman had also promised that if anything happened, or if we decided to cancel prior to installation, we would get our deposit back. Waited several days for my deposit to be refunded, then received two voicemails stating that carpet installers would be at my house the next week to install. I was so confused. I never consented to a new installation date nor called to re-schedule. It took about four phone calls to cancel that installation that I never approved or was even asked about. Then, to top everything off, after several attempts (about two hours) to get through to the cancellation department, the person at Empire stated that I would be subject to a fee equal to 25% of my total purchase price for cancelling, and that they had 30 days from purchase to install. By that time, I was furious. I told her that it wasn't even me who initially cancelled--it was cancelled due to illness on the installers' part and that I had a very tight window of time in which I needed the carpet installed. Because Empire cancelled my first appointment, I went to a different company to purchase installation (at a much more reasonable price for a comparable product). After arguing for about an hour, the person on the phone said the best she could do is take my deposit of $1000 and not charge me the remainder of the penalty (an additional $1500). The salesman never told me of this potential penalty, nor did he read me any parts of the contract. He just had me sign in several places and, again, promised I would be refunded my deposit if we ever changed our minds. Also, I have received random calls since then from people who state that my name has come across their desks as potential "person in need of flooring." Hmmm..wonder where they got my information. I'm absolutely floored (pun intended) at the terrible customer service, making of appointments to install without my consent or knowledge, the absolute theft of my deposit, sale of my name and phone number to other businesses, and overall poor professionalism of this huge company. I scheduled an appointment to have Empire come to my home to select flooring. I made the notes that it was for a condo we were purchasing and didn't have access, but had the measurements. They gave me a two hour window for the appointment on a Sunday, which was fine. About 15 minutes before the last hour, I received a call. The sales rep asked me if I was able to make a purchase today? I told him no, we were going to be getting several bids before making a decision. He said that his supervisor would not allow him to come unless I was willing to commit today to purchase. He told me he is paid on commission and it was not worth his time if we would not be willing to purchase that day. I told him, "no thank you". I am not interested in high pressure sales for this type of purchase. People should be aware that Empire is a high-pressure, make a decision today type of sales approach. Do not -- I repeat, do NOT -- deal with these people. We had a kitchen floor and baseboard molding put in by Empire. The quality of the work was okay, but they put in the wrong color quarter-rounds below the molding and it took us two months and threats of a lawsuit to get them to fix the problem. During that period, they would make appointments and then not show up, or show up with the wrong color, or show up with NO quarter rounds, claiming they had to inspect the problem (for the third time). It's no surprise that 10 complaints against Empire have been submitted to the Consumer Protection Agency. Stay away from them! read more

We had 3 estimates done by 3 different flooring companies for a 2 level house. Using the same type of wood flooring, Empire quoted $20,900; the second $12,500; the third $9950. We went with the 3rd guy (World Carpet and Flooring in Virginia; these guys rock) and it turned out great. Now, does anybody see a problem with the quotes here? Empire was 40-50% higher than the competitors and they couldn't start until 6 weeks later (World Carpet 10 days). Remember, ALL 3 WERE USING THE SAME MATERIALS. Empire is successful because they rip off people that don't know any better about services like this. Always get 2-3 quotes. And never use Empire. read more

I love the job Oscar E #16232 did an excellent job taking up some carpeting and putting down some wood tiles that's the only reason I gave this company a 3 because the good job that Oscar and his crew did BUT!! the customer service at this company is terrible I've had three other appointments and there was a no-call no-show at every single one they just didn't show up. when I called I spent forever on the phone calling them trying to find out why no one had called. Clearly, I should have looked at these reviews before I decided to deal with Empire in the DC area. I made the foolish assumption that a huge business with omnipresent advertising might make an attempt to preserve a decent reputation. Clearly, I was wrong. The red flags were everywhere. My sales representative -- who was based in Baltimore -- did not show up for the first appointment. He claimed to be stuck in traffic. I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and scheduled another appointment. When he arrived, I instantly regretted this decision. The guy was really, really creepy. Through our short visit, I learned much more about him than I wanted to, and sat through a series of offensive ethnic jokes. I had serious doubts about his mental capacity, which were amplified by the fact that he was unable to spell the name of the carpet that I chose -- ironically, called Sophisticated. But, in a bind and not knowing who else to call, I signed the paperwork. Empire claims that it is able to handle commercial installations. My building requires that all contract work be done between the hours of 6am-8am. I made this very clear to the representative, and we agreed upon an arrival time of 6am. He confirmed this with our building manager, and it was noted in the contract paperwork. Empire confirmed the installation by phone and e-mail multiple times throughout the week. I woke up at 4am to be in the office by 6. The hours came and went, with no word from my sales rep -- who was unreachable on his cell. After the installation window had passed, I called Empire, and found out that despite having my appointment in their system, no installers had even been assigned to the job. I canceled everything immediately. Please don't deal with these people. Especially not if you're female, or belong to any of the litany of ethnic groups that my sales rep had a problem with -- including, but not limited to, Italian, Greeks, Jews, Russians, and Jamaicans. Be very careful if you're going to do business with this company, their prices are highly inflated and use high pressure sales tactics. Let me start off by saying I did use them to have some carpet installed a few months prior, while I did only get 2 quotes from places, after some negotiating, Empire did have the better price, in hindsight I probably should have gotten a few more estimates. My wife and I decided we wanted to get some window treatments, so I scheduled a free in home estimate with Empire. They had a sale going on which said Buy 1 window treatment, get 2 free; I had also received a repeat customer discount of $200 by email. The salesman (Richard) came out, we talked about how we were interested in the Faux Wood blinds, we needed 8 windows (regular blinds) done and 2 sliding glass doors (vertical blinds). He stated they had two types, the economy faux wood and the premium faux wood blinds. The salesman went and measured the windows and then started calculating the price. When he was done he said the price for the premium blinds was $4937 or $3320 for the economy blinds. My jaw just dropped, if I was buying 1 and getting 2 free, what were they charging for installation $500 a window? At this point he stated only the premium blinds were eligible for the promotion, which still didn't justify that price. The salesman proceeded to do his normal let me call my boss to see if I can lower the price, who knows if he really called anyone but then he said I can take 10% off right now. Still the prices being insane my wife and I were not interested and told him we wanted to shop around more. Finally after a few more "sales pitches" he left. About 2 hours later I received a call from the salesman telling me his boss was willing to drop the price even more, and if we bought them today the price was now $3600 for the premium faux wood blinds. I told him I would think about it and get back to him. Later that day we went to Next Day Blinds to get a quote and for the same exact type of blinds their cost was around 2k less. At this point I was so pissed and insulted on how Empire had tried to sell me blinds almost 3k over what they cost I posted a message on their Facebook page. A few hours later someone responded that someone would be in contact with me. The next day I received a call from a Diane who "runs the window treatment department." She asked me what the problem was an I explained I was insulted that the price for the blinds was almost 5k and then has continued to drop when I was not interested, and I wanted to know how in the world they could charge that much when I was getting at least 6 of the window blinds for free. Diane goes on to tell me that only Honeycomb blinds are on valid with the special, so if I wanted those it would cost $4300 for 10 honeycomb blinds. Or she was willing to take 40% off the premium faux blinds bring the cost to $2600. When I told her Next Day Blinds was a lot cheaper she went on to say they would match the price. At this point I was insulted that they tried to sell me blinds at a 300% markup and then continued to drop the price when pressed. As a returning customer I should have been offered the best deal to begin with. Their salesman lied or didn't know how to do their job, Diane was less then helpful and when I wrote her an email questioning how their prices are still so high and why they didn't offer them to me to begin with she didn't even bother to reply. The next day I sent a mass email to their executive board and received an email from their VP of Customer Care stating she would look into it. The following day I received a call from Empire from a lady stating she was calling on behalf of VP. She asked me what the issue was even though she should have already known based off the previous emails. I explained to her that I was mad they kept dropping the prices and I wanted a bottom line price. She explained she would check and get back to me. They next day she called and said it would be $2300 for the Premium Faux Wood or $3900 for the honeycomb. So now almost a month later, the price for what we wanted originally has dropped $2637. When I told her that was still more expensive than their competitor she stated they would price match. Obviously I don't want to do business anymore with a company that lies to their customers. Doing a quick search of Empire Today online there are numerous complaints all over the web from bad customer service, to high pressure sales tactics, to price lying. And up until a few days ago their Facebook page was littered with complaints, they have since removed all of them. They state they have an A+ rating with the BBB but when you look up their company the rating lists unavailable. If you're looking for a good deal on blinds you won't be getting them from Empire, I'm sure if I would have shopped around more when I bought my carpet I would have found that price was over inflated too. read more

I had Empire give me a quote on installing hardwood floors. I was pressured by the salesman to sign the contract and provide a deposit check for $2000 that night! I was told I have 72 hours to cancel without any penalties or any charges. I canceled the next day because I found a much lower quote. Now, 7 days later, my bank account goes into overdraft because they cashed my check today. Even though their system shows I canceled the flooring request immediately 7 days ago. Why would they do this!?! The guy on the customer service line wouldn't provide me any contact information for my local area office or for my salesman, which is completely unprofessional. And he said it's up to them to reimburse me for any overdraft charges incurred due to my check being illegally and wrongfully cashed for services not provided. And he said that he could not or would not connect me to speak with anybody else. The local area office called me to say they would not reimburse any of my fees that I was charged for their unlawful cashing of a check that was deposited 6 days after I called to cancel my service request. They even said they saw in my records that I called to cancel on the 20th and then they deposited the check on the 26th. The DEPOSIT CHECK IS A FEE. The contract clearly states "YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED ANY FEES OR PENALTIES FOR CANCELLING WITHIN 72 HOURS." I cancelled within 48 hours and was still charged the Deposit Fee!!! This is completely unlawful. I have spoken to the local area office 4x with absolutely no resolution and no concern on their part to rectify the situation. My salesman was named Mehrdad and the agent I spoke to at 1-800-Empire was named Brian. The local area office is in Odenton, MD and I spoke with two people named Sherry and Stephanie, and they were just unwilling to help and Stephanie hung up on me. WORST COMPANY EVER!! They have stolen my money, caused me so much time lost circling around to connect with someone who can actually help. And in the meantime, I'm out $2000 bucks. read more

Today is Sunday. Two rooms were supposed to be done yesterday. Second room has blue plastic and unfinished floors. Price ok, workers very diligent. But I can scratch leftover pieces for the remaining job with a key, holding the key and the wood in my hand, no pressure at all! Got pads for all the furniture, but since the sales rep measures incorrectly, cannot get to my kitchen because all the furniture is piled up in there. I also was told by the sales dude that the quarter round trim "would be invisible." NOT! My baseboards are off-white, and the trim is cheap shiny white primer plastic. The installers said I could paint it later. Would it not be so much easier to paint it before putting it on? That is what all the DIY sites say. Since the second room has hardly any trim yet, I called to ask if I could get the quarter round trim on Monday and paint it, since the work will not be completed till Tuesday. Since I called on a weekend, the customer service rep (all other offices closed except for the sales scheduling office) said it was not possible, acted like I was crazy, what could he do, anyway. I am not happy that the sales guy shorted the amount needed by very poor measuring (off by about 20 sq ft), the installers are most likely way way underpaid for all their work, that they have an inferior product to work with (front room already has two squeaky spots and a scratch) plus I can scratch it with a key in my free hand, that the work is unfinished and I have to play puzzle to get to the things I need, plus cannot hook up TV yet!?! since I was told to wait till all installed, and since I may be painting after the fact... Plus, no one of three reps I spoke to had a clue about the AC rating--no idea what it meant, let alone what it is!! I believe my product is a 2, and that is bad. I am worried that the rest of the flooring may not even come in on Tuesday. How long will I be held hostage? What really sucks--I read many reviews, and thought that with so many years and thousands of jobs done each year, that of course there are a few bad apples. It seems that I was duped. If things go well on Tuesday, I will amend this post. MONTHS LATER- I do like the floors. After about two months, there were weird bumps in one room, and you could feel the ridges where the planks connect. Installer came out again and said it was a bad box. Almost all of the second room was re-done. The installer was nice enough to paint the edging before installing it, using the paint I had purchased myself. the first room still has the bright white shiny plastic looking edging, but since it is covered mostly by furniture, I do not care now. Floors are easy to clean and maintain. I would recommend laminate flooring, just not Empire. read more

I recently had my basement flood and contacted Empire Today. Set Up my appointment online and they called and showed up on time. The sales rep was very helpful and friendly. I had vinyl for the downstairs living room, hallway, stair landings and also upstairs hallway. Also the 3 bedrooms downstairs for carpeting. The vinyl installers showed up as planned the following Friday and did an excellent job, worked their tails off to make sure they got the job done and did an excellent job of cleaning up. The carpet guys came the next day as planned and also did an excellent job. Now my floors are beautiful. I had a great experience with Empire Today and would absolutely recommend them to anybody looking to have their floors redone. read more

In March 2021 Empire installers arrived at our home to install hardwood on the entire first floor (minus the bathrooms in vinyl). After 3 days, they left the job incomplete and shared that the warehouse had not provided enough material. I also documented a board that was cracked. Well, about 10 hours of phone calls, 10s of emails, 4 scheduled appointments where no one called or showed up, and finally a threat of calling Channel 5 - on October 6th they finally installed the remainder of my floor and fixed the broken board. The business model includes not starting a job until you have paid 100% of the invoice - taking away any leverage you have when the job is incomplete. Shame on me for not asking up front. Much like everyone on Yelp and other sites on the internet, I too called Empire to see what kind of a 'deal' I could get for my flooring needs. I was looking at three different types of flooring, hardwood (floating floor) for my office, ceramic tile for the entrance and carpet for the living room. The Empire sales rep showed up at my house about 30 minutes late, but apologized immediately and started to look at the area. He was very knowledgable and very easy to talk to about this job. Then came the negation, you feel very pressured to buy at this "amazing price," but after shopping around, it's not that great of a deal. After reading all the negative reviews and seeing people outside the DC Metro area complaining about the poor job they did, I decided to call off the install and ended up going with a small local company. Thanks Yelp for helping steer me away from a potential mess. I gave them 3 stars since I was able to cancel without issue and their sales rep was not unreasonable. Also, if you ever put down a deposit, make sure you use a Credit Card NOT a personal check. With a CC, you can easily dispute the charge and not be held liable for it while it's in arbitration. read more

I admit to not reading this stuff before I called them, and honestly they scared the crap out of me when I did. However, here's my experience with Empire in fun bullet form. * Made an appointment online for Thursday. The salesperson showed up on time, was immensely polite, yes, maybe sold a bit...but "salesperson" is not another word for "best friend" so I expected that. He took a key to the laminate we were looking at trying to scratch it. He offered us two types of berber, and was supportive when we went with the less expensive version. He was considerate, quick, and informative. He spent 1.5 hours at our house discussing ideas and giving us options--before he knew we were going to agree. *Next day installation went off without a hitch. We had a confirmation of the time in our e-mail by 11:00 pm. They called when they were an hour out and showed up to put in the laminate. We have a lot of extremely heavy pieces of furniture, yet each was moved with care. The stuff they did around our fireplace is gorgeous and precise. There are quarter rounds beautifully shaped on every edge. They were considerate of our cats, and every piece was put back exactly where it had been. They left the box of extras in case we ever needed it. *The carpet guys came next. We had a place up stairs in the guest room where the cats had shredded carpet well inside the door way (we aren't replacing that...yet). They extended the hall way carpet just a bit to fix that area so it would look better. *By 6pm that night, I had a new house, with everything in it's place. Considering the poor installers had to rip up cat pee soaked carpet (I had a diabetic cat with aiming issues), and never complained says a lot. Not a scrap of our old carpet was left in the house or in the yard. It was pristine. *After the installation, we noticed a piece of the berber had seemed to come up a bit. (This is when I read the reviews and freaked out.) We called the warranty service. They called back within 2 hours, discussed the problem, arranged a service visit with a window from 8-12 the next day. Again the guy called when he was an hour out, showed up, quickly fixed the problem, no questions asked, and then went with my husband through every edge to make sure everything else was good. *During my freak out (see above) I called their service number and was talked off a ledge by someone at their center. I also received a call from National Service Center, which I haven't returned yet, because I'm writing this. I also got a reply from their facebook page. For a "crappy company" (according to these reviews), they certainly are willing to get in touch with you. So yes, their salespeople may be a bit used-car-esque. But when there was a problem, they fixed it. And my floors look AMAZING. read more

Our experience was very good. The sales rep, Laura S., was great. She was very friendly and professional, offered her opinions without being pushy and was very responsive to our needs. The carpet originally selected turned out to be a different color in the light and would not work for us. Empire installers had no problem taking it back and Laura S. was back the same afternoon so we could make a different carpet selection. A few days later, the same installers returned with the newly selected carpet. The color was great the second time. The installers were friendly and professional. DO NOT, EVER, USE EMPIRE DIRECT. AWFUL SERVICE, PISS POOR PROCESS, POLICIES, and INSTALLER ATTITUDES. Seemingly polite sales managers and call center reps. Piss poor mismanaged process and policies to get a carpet installed. After I agreed to Next Day service, they missed my install on a Saturday because of a back office problem (after I moved everything out of my BR for this damn next day install). This is after the first sales guy never showed up (on July 3rd) and next Sales guy refused to meet me because he could not find parking in DC. Third sales guy (Daniel) was super nice and professional however - I feel bad for him. Overall Super shitty execution and just endless excuses with no product delivered. Very sketchy and completely unreliable. UPDATE: They sent a worker to install on Monday (while I'm at work) so I arrange to have my father hastily go to my condo to let them in. I spoke to their billing dept and arranged to have 50% payment today, and balance tomorrow after I inspect the work. They later argued (60 min later) that's "not part of their policy" and decided to cancel the order WHICH THEY SCREWED UP 4 TIMES IN A ROW. So I agreed, told them to F*CK themselves. I spent 30 min on phone with multiple departments at Empire today, plus my condo manager, to make this work - missing work meetings as a result. Go to Hell, Empire Today. PRODUCT QUALITY: After 1 year of install your (5 year warranty) carpet and (5 year warranty) padding will loose its softness and become flat. I contacted empire to see whats going on and they said its normal wear. My home is not a retail store with high volume traffic so how can it be considered normal for carpet and padding to get matted flat within 1 year with only two under 170 lbs working individuals living in the home. I mentioned my padding has a 5 year warranty and they said its nothing they can do. They have sales reps who might be contracted and poorly trained come to your home to sell you carpet that they know nothing of. Once you have the carpet installed you are on your own. Worst experience ever with carpet. Immediately came to my home to measure and make carpet selection, but did not show up two times for installation. When I called, I was told they were busy and were unsure when the carpet could be installed. Really!!!! They won't be too busy for long. read more

Empire Today should not be ALLOW TO OPERATE within the USA. They are the biggest scam going. They sold me a few box of linoleum to be installed at the patio door of my walk out basement. The sales person asked for a credit card to paid for the purchase and schedule the install a couple of days later. When the installers arrived for the installation they did not have all the product needed to complete the installation. The installer said "I can install what I have and complete the installation once it's back in stock" I responded absolutely not. I did not paid Empire Today in installments why should I accept half the job now and the rest whenever the stock arrives. I reached out to the installation department and the customer service person "said since it was such a small order I give you 25 dollars for wasting your time and not having everything needed to complete the installation". I was beside myself 400 plus dollars in the basement for a corner of linoleum and 1800 dollars for a rug in my family room. I told the person to cancel the linoleum and put my small 400 plus dollars back on my card. All this till place on 18 Aug 2021 it's now 2 Sept 2021 and I have yet to receive my money back. This entire experience has been a total lost. The area rug I had cut and blinded came completely filthy the installers had to vacuum it before they could leave then I re-vacuum the rug after they left because they failed to get anything up. That delivery was awful also because they till the rug off the truck and unrolled it out in the driveway where my crêpe myrtle tree blooming was all over my driveway and they dragged all that mess into my house. In all my years, Empire Today is the worse company that I ever deal with. The salesman I can't call by name. Remember me as a used car lot salesman. After he made the sale we had a VERY DIFFICULT TIME REACHING HIM. Improper Information, and paperwork. And plus I did not like how he talk and Treaty of my God Sister. My hardwood laminate still has not been replaced as promised. I have called Charles, the customer service manager, and left 5 messages and 1 e-mail regarding replacement and have not heard back. I have begged for a refund to no avail. Please, just give me my money back so that my family and I can close the bathroom door, walk on a stable floor, stop stepping on nails, and have a nice floor! The floor has lifted so much that I cannot close my bathroom door or walk in between rooms without stepping on cracked wood and nails. read more

It has been a long, arduous journey with Empire Today. My experience started in March, but wasn't made 100% right until early June. I question everything about Empire's business model. Here are the Cliff Notes (I could have written War & Peace): -Salesperson did back of napkin calculations; even went so far as to make a fake phone call to his "supervisor" when I negotiated on price. - Salesperson dropped the final price by over $400 (despite claiming that I had already received a 50% off deal) within minutes after the aforementioned "Supervisor Phone Call." (Sketchy) - Salesperson gave guarantee of 'next day install'; next day arrived, installers showed up, but claimed they were unable to "Fit the Carpet Down the Stairs" because it was raining; claimed they would show back up on Sunday. I found out later this was completely bogus, as the team that ultimately came to replace the initial botched job got the carpet downstairs just fine. - Sunday comes, no installers. We called to complain. Empire stated that they "Don't install on Sunday." Therefore, the team lied to us on Saturday. Finally, Empire sent 1 guy by himself to do the basement job. He showed up a few hours after he said he would. - After the whole day into the mid-evening (6pm), the installer showed me the "finished product." He had left a large and unsightly seam in the middle of the basement floor. He claimed it would "Go Away with Foot Traffic"; he also failed to install a 'transition piece' between the top of the stairs and the hardwood, leaving a ragged edge. - I called to complain (again). A week later, after many phone calls, the disgruntled supervisor of the "lone wolf" installer showed up. He attempted to "fix the seam" with copious glue and scissors. He also installed the missing transition piece, but made me install the nails for "liability reasons" (????). - Before leaving, the supervisor said, "I did the best I could ... put some furniture down here and you'll never notice this seam. Enjoy your new carpet." - A few weeks pass, Empire sends a different team out to do the "Berber runner" up our stairs (living room to upstairs). This team showed up hours after the scheduled time window. But, this team did a great job. So, despite being late, that part was OK. - A few more weeks pass ... several visitors commented on the brand new carpet in the basement, but a few close friends pointed out the seam. It certainly wasn't going away with "more foot traffic." Finally, I decided to call back. After more than a week of phone tag, I was finally able to schedule for a "repair technician" to come out. - Repair technician arrives on site (another day out of work). Repair tech explains that the original installation was a "Bad Install." He stated that he "never would have put the seam in the middle of the floor." He also notes the "excessive glue" that was used. Despite his best efforts to re-stretch, cut, and "repair" the seam, it looks nearly the same afterwards, if not worse. - A week goes by. At this point, I'm very frustrated. Why should I pay top dollar for a half baked product? Finally, I call and leave multiple voicemails requesting a complete tear out and replace. Crickets ... no call back. I call the main customer service line, explain that the local office has been unresponsive. Magically, I get a call back on the next business day. After painful negotiation, pictures, discussions, etc., Empire finally agrees to send out a team to do a full tear out and replace on my basement carpet. - New Team, New Supervisor show up. They were EXCEPTIONAL, and were undoubtedly sub-contracted out by Empire. They "hid the seam," so it couldn't be seen at all. The job was fantastic. Oh, and they even got the carpet downstairs...magic. They were literally shaking their heads at the location and workmanship of the original install ... but, we all were completely floored by the following: I paid extra for moisture barrier padding. When the new team ripped out the carpet, they called me downstairs. The "lone wolf" original installer had installed the moisture barrier padding on only HALF of the room. The other half ... regular old padding. HOW DISHONEST IS THAT?!?!?! I was floored and disgusted. I called Empire to report this fact, but who knows if they took any action. Bottom line ... it took over 3 months, countless painful phone calls, and many days off work to get things right. I got the sense that the salesperson fudged the #s, the original installer definitely tried to rip us off on the padding and did a terrible job. Both he (and his supervisor) lied to me, telling me the seam would "go away with time." Customer service was sluggish and painful to deal with. Stay away ... find someone else! read more

I requested the "in-home estimate" on their website. I received email confirmation and their independent contractor visited my home. Like others, I took time out of my day to be present during the 2 hour window for the appointment. I was not given an estimate. I was given a quote. It was advertised I would receive an estimate. A reasonable person would assume an estimate is documentation. Before I spend $2,000+ I like to look at all of the details and the fine print. When I asked for an estimate, I was told I would not receive this. I recommend that anyone that receives the "in-home estimate" should ask for the estimate. Since that is what is advertised that is what should be received and if you do not receive this basic, fundamental business documentation, you may want to reexamine whether you want to contract their services. An "in-home estimate" is an estimate, it is not a quote. It is documentation that shows the break down of the work to be performed. If you request the in-home estimate like I did, I recommend that you demand what you were advertised, a real professional estimate. read more

The salesman was on time and was very pleasant. He answered all my questions and was professional. The day of my appointment I got a call from the installers letting me know they were on the way. They were a little late but did a fantastic job. They even helped move my heavy furniture out of the way. I didn't like they spoke poor English. I had trouble understanding them and had to keep making them repeat themselves. I would have given 4 stars if it wasn't for the language barrier.
