My wife and I had a terrible experience with Prospect Hardwood Flooring. We have a six-week-old baby girl. It took us an hour and a half to get out of our apartment and get to the townhouse for our assessment with Mike. (You know how it is getting a newborn out of the house.) After all that, Mike refused to wear a mask inside our new home, despite the unvaccinated newborn on my arm, and despite the fact that we offered him one of ours to use. He just brushed it off, saying "I don't do that." It was a complete waste of our time and showed an absolute lack of respect for our baby's safety. We will never use Prospect Hardwood Flooring, and we recommend you avoid them, too. (In fact, we ended up getting a price that was about 30% cheaper from Magni Flooring, so this was probably all for the best!) read more

Fantastic company! Best advice, knew the products, and stood by their work. We wanted a water based finish to avoid the amber coloring of oil based polyurethane. Mike knew everything about the products and recommended Bona. Applying water based finish is very different than oil based so it was awesome to find a company that had experience with that product. He gave advice on how to move my piano without messing up the finish. They even corrected a mistake that took place when their equipment tripped the breaker and my freezer melted water onto the floor and ruined the finish. They came out and made it look perfect. I had my floors refinished in the beginning of October and wanted to give it some time before I gave my review. First of all, the Office Manager, Jodi, gets a 5! She was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. Our salesman, Mike, gets a 5. He was knowledgeable, prompt, courteous, and his presentation/confidence in his job & team was the deciding factor in choosing Prospect instead of the other top contender. The contractors only get a 3. I had a lot or pet-stained boards and was originally told they needed 5 bundles of replacement red oak @ $200 a bundle to correct them, which I agreed to, and the removal of the bad boards was done. Long story short, their estimate was wrong, and it jumped from 5 to 10 and turned out to be 12 bundles, increasing the cost of my project by 148%. With the demolition already done, I had no choice but to go ahead with it. Had I known in the beginning it was going to be that much more to repair them, I may have gone back to a dark stain to hide them rather than replacing them all. I had to call Jodi to have someone force them to put back in the tar paper vapor barrier under the new boards like they originally had (and which I had to provide). The work crew was less then respectful of my property regarding cigarettes & trash but did promptly remove it the next day when they saw I stacked it all up (to take a photo of it). One day they used my driveway as a transfer station for material between different vans/crews and as a garage to replace a headlight on one of them. English was not their first language, and I believe for some of them it was a distant second at best. They spent a lot of time on their cell phones and the job of course took longer due to the board replacement. The supervisor was only there the first & last day, and I believe it would have gone quicker had he been here more. The floors do look much better than they did, and they corrected most of my errors from 20 years ago when I refinished them myself, and they showed up early and stayed late on all but one day. They were also prompt in coming out to replace a board that "bubbled up" after the final coat. There are some rough patches in the closets, and I'm not sure they put on thick enough coats of the finish. (I expected a slightly more uniform sheen). I would recommend Prospect if you have no pet damaged boards or will be going with the same or darker stain color. Also, make sure you get 3 coats of finish, (even if you don't have pets or kids) as the standard 2 coats is not enough. read more

Like many of you who find contractors using sites like Yelp or Home Advisor, I found this company and decided to get an estimate for floor installation because of the many positive and glowing reviews. After my wife and I picked a floor we liked, we decided to go with them due to the reasonable price point. Out of the 6 contractors we have had remodel our house within the past 6 months, this company ended up giving us the most heartache and nearly got to the point of going to court. Below you can read the reasons why my wife and I will not recommend this company to anyone. I hope this review will save you and your family some stress if you are looking for a quality flooring installer. 1. The crew did not clean up the job worksite on the first day, leaving old flooring with nails in our yard. If they were not told to at least cover it up (with much cursing in Spanish), they would have left it there. We have children in the neighborhood that sometimes play in our yard and we did not want to be liable for any accidents. 2. Just before the floors were installed I painted our dining room and kitchen ceilings. I left plastic sheets, painter's tape, and a number of tools including a power drill near the kitchen area. A couple days after the floor installation, I patched up some drywall and did some touch up painting and found that my painter's tape had been used up, realized they reused my plastic sheets to cover our furniture, found my drill battery dead, and a different drill bit in my drill (I had a double Philips/flathead bit, but found a Philips only bit). I also found out later that they requested to use our shop vac to clean up the area. Make sure the work area is clear of personal belongings and tools or the install team may feel free to use them. 3. We have a living room and family room that have step downs into carpet. No tarp, plastic, drop cloth, etc. were used to cover these areas and were subsequently stained in the process (the staining of the stair edgings and quarter-round were done on site...yes on site). These carpets were newly installed just two months prior. Two carpet cleaning companies later, the rug is still not 100% pre-install condition. To be fair Prospect did cover the costs of these cleanings but could have easily been prevented and saved us both the heartache. 4. The stair nosing for our dropdown from the dining room was incorrectly installed and was not flush with the adjoining floor boards, creating a trip hazard for our 2 year old. The installers decided to install the stair edgings last instead of first. Subsequently, there are many gaps between the floor boards and the stair edgings which were filled in with wood putty...lots of wood putty. Wood putty is like caulk to them...have a gap, fill it in with caulk/wood putty! Looks great and professional! I have volunteered with home repair and renovation organizations for a number of years and have installed a number of floors myself. I have to say, even the volunteers that have no previous flooring experience were able to install a floor without resorting to wood putty to fill the gaps. This was most likely due to there always being a PM on site the whole time though...ahem... 5. This company did not check for levelness of the subfloor, yet the install occurred anyway with only a nail down and no glue to ensure that the boards do not warp over time. IF you go with this company, please make sure in the contract under the section "Scope of Work" you have them check for the levelness of your subfloor. That should be standard practice, but sadly is not. 6. They were ready to bill me after all of the above until I had to get an independent floor inspection report, which showed the gaps in the floor due to its unevenness and flagged them for the uneven stair edgings (which they were quick to fix most likely due to potential personal injury liability reasons). Even after they fixed the stair edgings, the new stain does not match the previously installed edgings. Overall I would say this company does what it says...it installs floors at a decent price point. However, if it's quality work you want done, this isn't your company. While the company did work with me to fix the issues, the craftsmanship and quality just wasn't there. I will wait and see after a year how this floor holds up and will update this review appropriately. read more

We refinished the floors of our house with Prospect. Dealing with them was great all along. Mike gave as a price and we waited over a year to decide to finally go through with the project, since we knew it was going to be a messy experience. For our large house, it took them four days to do it and then they came on the fifth day to put the furniture back in place Along the process, Jodi kept us informed every step of the way. And the crew that did our project (Victor, Moises, Ulises, Francisco) were nothing but amazing. They were very meticulous with all the details, took good care of the surroundings and furniture, kept everything super clean, and worked very long hours to keep the project on time. I picked this company as a first time for re-installed my real hard wood floor after a major damaged from my sewage system of my house and demolition's floor. Mike was very nice and professional with estimated the project and given me a price on site. Compared to other he given much better price and very flexible to work to finish project even on weekend. I was really worried it wouldn't be a good candidate for refinishing. But Mike assured me it would look great when it was finished and boy was he right! Great sales pitch followed by horrible work that had to be completely redone by others. It was a nightmare.

Prospect Hardwood provided me with a poor product and rude and condescending customer service. In March 2021 we had some of our wood floors refinished. Jodi coordinated the project for us and she was a delight to work with. The maple stairs were stained and finished with an oil-based polyurethane. Within 7 months, however, the stairs and landing were already showing wear in certain spots that our feet often find. Mike, the owner, came out to look at the issue, at my request, but was rude and unhelpful. He couldn't identify what the problem was but insisted that a re-screening would fix it. Mike said that these floor just might need to be rescreened once or twice a year (at several hundred dollars a pop). I've never heard of such requirements; hardwood floor finishing should last for years. They rescreened these areas which fixed the problem briefly but in a couple months the wear spots returned, worse than ever. Then Mike said the problem was that these are places where people have often stepped over the years so the wood grain became compressed causing the stain to take unevenly. Maple is far too hard of a wood for this to be the case. I insisted that the work was poorly done and needed to be fixed but Mike responded that "it is impossible to tell the outcome of every floor" and refused to address the problem. Our conversation ended with him saying, "At this point I propose you attempt the work yourself. The internet may provide you with the method that will work best with your skill set." If you are looking for hardwood floor refinishing I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

If I could give them ten stars, I would. Totally and completely blown away with how wonderful our experience was with this company. Mike is very knowledgable, friendly and truly has the customer's best interest at heart. We had removed a wall in our home and now needed to patch the hole in the floor that was left behind. Most every other company refused to consider any option other than replacing all the floors. Mike spent a considerable amount of time talking us through a wide array of options from very low-cost and simple fixes, to options that may give us more bang for the buck. In the end we chose to patch the floor, and sand/refinish the flooring in the main areas of the home until we saved up more money to do the rest of the house. He was so kind in understanding that we didn't have the budget to go all-in. And the price was very fair. The work was scheduled quickly, and their communication was incredible. Jodi called often to describe exactly what we could expect and what each day of work would entail. The job took three days, despite us throwing in a last minute rather large and complicated ask for extra work. The crew was patient in helping us choose a new stain color. Extremely professional, timely and polite. Communication throughout the project was excellent. And they left our house perfectly clean. And the floors.... truly INCREDIBLE. It's almost impossible to believe they are the same floors!!! They are beautiful. Mike personally checked in throughout the project and followed up two days later in person to review the work and make sure we were completely satisfied with the outcome. We had LVP installed in our upper floor and we're really happy with choosing Prospect Hardwood Flooring (PHF). At first Mike came out to take measurements and gave us an estimate, which was really reasonable, with no BS or hidden charges. The quote was what was charged at the end. On a side note, we also got a quote from another company who gave us one figure while measuring and then quite the other when they sent the final offer adding charges and fees for moving furniture and installing moldings, i mean c'mon! Anyway, the workers that came out for PHF were curteous and knew their work, the only reason I'm giving this 4 star and not 5 is because the work could've been completed in a day but on day one two guys came and one quite immediately left for 3-4 hours. During that time only one person worked on the floor. He was pretty good, that has to he said; but the work could've gone a lot faster if there were multiple people working together. Later that day a few more folks showed up and got a lot completed but that was too late in the day to finish everything. The next day 3 people showed up and finished everything quickly. The other thing was that only one person that came knew english (that was the guy who left on day one), so it was kind of difficult to communicate with the other guy (google translate helped though). Overall they did a great job and Mike and Jodi were upfront and easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend them (already have as a matter of fact) to my friends. read more
