They lie. They told us that laminate had lifetime replacement warranty and also that it would not scratch. We had them come out to replace a board where a scratch occurred, and they not only charged for the visit but said we did not have a lifetime warranty. To be very clear again: They told us it will not scratch, and if it does it will be replaced because we get a lifetime time warranty. That is two lies in one sentence! read more

The salesman arrived on time, with samples and helped us make a choice we would be happy with. I thought the estimate was reasonable and so we moved forward with carpet installation. The workmen showed up on time, ready to work. We had to prep by removing all smaller items and breakables from the room but our price included having them move all the furniture which included a king size bed and an armoire. ZERO stars. We asked for an estimate for hard woods in 4 bedrooms. The estimate began at $46,000 given by a pushy, fast talking, untrustworthy salesman. By 1 week later they were still trying to make the sale and had dropped the price by $35,000. I had 3 other companies give us estimates, not one was over $15,000. I feel bad for the people that have no negotiating skills or are easily persuaded. I would never recommend this company. read more

From the initial discussion on various flooring, pricing etc Empire was wonderful. Great at explaining varying types, when it came to scheduling they worked around our schedules even changed a couple of times for us. Upon installation on time arrival workers worked diligently to get the job completed in a professional manner. They didn't rush and didn't milk the clock. My husband and I chose to have our kitchen flooring redone after moving into our home because the tiles shifted and cracked with weather changes. We had our carpet changed by Empire in our previous condo therefore my husband suggested that we use them to redo the kitchen floor even though I have had great experiences with Home Depot tiling our bathroom. From the start the service was very poor with Empire in August 2017. The crew that came to do the work arrived in an unmarked van with the wrong tile. It took two weeks and my personal photos of the correct tile texted to the service Manager for them to bring the correct one (we chose a gray tile but the company has another tile called "light gray" which is actually darker ???). The work didn't get started until my husband threatened not to continue the installation even though I had left numerous messages. The rep was responsible for correcting the error but the rep stated that it was customer service's job therefore neither party did anything until I asked my husband to call Empire as my messages didn't produce any results. I have chosen to write this review at this late date because there are three depressions in the floor. The most obvious one is between the sink and the stove where I walk and stand numerous times a day. During the install I asked the installers if they would fill in the missing tiles that can be seen in the attached pictures. The flooring in the picture was the original that appeared once the installers stripped our ceramic tile. The installers told me not to worry about the missing tiles "it would be ok". Once the work was complete, I felt that the floor was not level because even though luam was placed beneath the LVT, the areas that are missing tile below the luam are obviously be lower. I called customer service and asked that a different crew be sent out to remedy the problem. Low and behold they sent the same crew which, not surprisingly, did not think anything was wrong with he floor therefore no adjustments were made. I now have to live with this floor for the next 10-15 years as we have a 4 month old and will not be able to afford a new one any time soon. It is unfortunate that a simple concept of laying tile on a firm even foundation is not one that Empire governs their business by. Use Empire for carpet but stay very far away if you need a reliable sturdy tiled floor for you kitchen. read more

Empire's sale's representative "Dawn" did a wonderful job at helping us choose hardwood flooring and our floors were scheduled to be installed within a week (June 2, 2018). All went well with the install, technicians were on time and they pushed to get a large area complete by the end of the day. Upon completion, the floors were beautiful! Unfortunately after just a couple of weeks, some of the flooring (mainly the hallway) is starting to look uneven. Need to follow up with Empire and post a review update. read more

After Massis, salesman, convinced me to install laminent floor with Empire because, he said, they were honest and trustworthy, I found them to be just the opposite. I told Massis that one room has asbestos tiles and he said it would get covered with underlay and no problem. So I signed the contract and when 2 men came to install carpet they wanted $800.00 more to cover the nail strips that currently hold my carpet down. I told them no way since the contract was signed by me and the salesperson for a given amount to do all work,including removing strips. After an hour of arguing I told them to either have manager speak to me or leave. They left and I call this company a scam artists dream. read more

I was extremely pleased with the price, service, and installation. I'd highly recommend going with Empire. There were no surprises or hidden costs and the installers were highly trained and did a perfect job. I could have gotten the job done much cheaper by bar contractors but you get what you pay for. Empire was easy to deal with. Highly recommend going this route for your carpet, flooring or window blind needs. I'm most likely going to use them for some replacement blinds I need. read more

We moved into a new home in March during the pandemic. The installers showed up and worked all day without face coverings or gloves. We should have sent them away but wanted our carpet. We sprayed the entire house with disinfectant and basically panicked when they left. The service person I called and talked to with our complaint was horrified yet it still had happened. Due to the current pandemic I did not call them back for a service call. The installers somehow created a horrible creak in the floor that was present the moment they left. It was not there and it is unbearable. There is also transition from hardwood to the new carpet where they did not install a strip and the fibers are starting to pull away. I called for service a month after installation and they have refused to come back without further payment for both the strip and to floor boards. read more

Boston Area. They were supposed to come out to measure, etc. and never showed up. We were given a 2-hour window for their arrival. That window was confirmed by them via a phone call and email msg. As it got close to the end of the 2-hour window, I phoned them to be sure they were still coming as we are not living at the house so we made a special trip to be there. I was told that they would not be able to make it. I asked why, they had no explanation from the local person who was supposed to come out. So no apology and no explanation. Would they have shown up for the install? Who knows? Not taking any chances with these big companies. If you had a good experience with them you are lucky. I doubt it's the norm. We will by at a small, local store even if the cost is more. read more

Save yourself time, don't use Empire Today unless your time means nothing to you: Mason was due to our house on 12/13/19 between 5 & 7. He called shortly after 5 indicating "they" double booked him and could we reschedule. We had already adjusted our Friday evening plans to be available, but we called him and did reschedule. He sent a text stating that his manager rescheduled for yesterday afternoon. My wife and I again adjusted our plans to be available. He was due anytime between 3 & 5. At 4:10, someone called saying he was not going to make it in the agreed / confirmed time window, could he come closer to 7? No apologies, no real explanation as to why. We told them no, and that there was no need to reschedule at all as they had twice failed to deliver even for the in home quote. They made no attempt on that call to even try to rectify their error, or to regain my potential business. Just a few minutes ago, a woman called from Empire. I told her they had messed up twice now, why was a third time going to be any different. Her reply: crickets and then hung up. If Empire Today is so full of themselves that they can hire customer support call staff who are not trained or experienced enough in trying to salvage a potential sale, they are too big for their own good. I need new basement flooring - that would have been a slam dunk sale if they cared enough to get over themselves and be customer centric and care about customer relationship management. Horrible. The sales rep was great, but it was all downhill from there. My wood floors were able to be installed in 2 days, but they screwed them up so bad that they need fully replaced. They're moving at a snail's pace to fix the mess they made, won't have a manager return my calls, have made zero effort to apologize, and have kept me completely in the dark. I have to do all the work to find out what the heck is happening. The installer yelled at me when I pointed out the problems, got so aggressive I had to tell him to leave my home, and said it was "no big deal" that nails were sticking out of the floor, trim was broken, floorboards were actually sticking up, and one of the steps was obviously broken. They took my money real quick, but don't seem to be in any hurry to fix this crap job. read more

Pro tip: don't let them manipulate you into signing a contract before you get other estimates. Wouldn't provide us a written estimate until $200 deposit paid and contract signed. Should have told him to leave my house then and there. Instead ended up cancelling the signed contract using the form(s) buried in it; there's an easy to miss five day deadline on cancellation, so got it done ASAP. The salesman spent roughly two hours at our house mainly making small talk and a few minutes measuring rooms with a laser (I've got one of those things too). Also measured parts of the house we weren't interested in having done. Pretty much a waste of time if you have your floor plan (I'm sure I could find it). He would only provide one quote for one proposal, he wouldn't do different quotes with different levels of materials, and badgered us to commit to one set of materials without knowing the prices. He would alternate between being friendly and acting like I/we were being a pain. I got an estimate from a roof place recently, it was actually free, it was a dozen or two pages, it contained several proposals, and I didn't have to spend much time with the salesman since he took the roof measurements off Google maps (plus there was little or no small talk). read more

We recently had Empire Today replace all the flooring in our house. We went from W2W carpet to exclusively hard surfaces. We have LVP LVT, and laminate, depending on the room. We could not be more pleased with the process, the products, and the installation. Our sales person was patient, direct, and honest. She worked hard to find reasonable prices on our favorite products. The installation team worked hard and fast to complete the project in three days. All were extremely polite and respectful and their work was very high quality. Finally, Empire called multiple times in advance and during the project to remind, confirm, and gauge satisfaction (and let me know not to sign if I wasn't happy). Worst Carpet Company EVER. I hired Empire Today to install two floors of berber carpet in my house. First of all, this company is a company in name only. The sales associate who came to my first to sell me the carpet was a private contractor, as was the installer and his young apprentice (assuming family but maybe not.) Day of install I made no less than 4 calls to the hapless customer service department at Empire. #1 Call - Asked when installers would be arriving because this was supposed to be a full day job. Was told she had no idea what the installation process was because she was customer service? MAJOR oxymoron. #2 Call - Asked again about installers coming so late in the afternoon for a full day job given that the work was "supposed to occur between 8 AM and 6 PM". Call center employee told me that means that's when they could arrive. So an installer is going to ARRIVE at 6 PM and what, stay until 2 AM? What the heck kind of business does that ever?! #3 Call - Called because after about 8 hours, the installer realized he wasn't going to be done with the whole two floors. He was still two hours off from being done with the upstairs. TEN HOURS to complete 2 rooms and staircase. By the time he told me he wasn't going to finish, all the installation departments I could contact were closed for the day. #4 Call - Received one missed call from Empire the next morning. Called back roughly 12-13 times and left messages for the individual that called me, and received no response. Called customer service back at the end of the day and received the same hapless response from them as I have been getting the last two days. TERRIBLE COMPANY. Go with a local company that takes ownership of their work instead passing the buck to other people. Can't stress enough how useless this company is. read more

I've used Empire 2x previously and the installers did really quality work. My issue for this current installation is that the sales person said nothing about setting up a separate appointment for measurement and binding for a stair runner i was having installed. All paperwork and conversation had the date selected for installation which i took off from work to be done. On that day the installer came out measured, took the rest of my deposit and then informed me once the carpet was bound they would be back to install. I called Empire to inform them that my paperwork never mentioned this and in fact it noted that date as the installation date. They gave me the installation coordinators number who never answers and no ability to leave a message. Called Empire back and they said I was on the schedule for this Saturday though I would not have known this had i not called. Window 8am-6pm. So I'm waiting here all day and finally called them and I'm now told my installation is not until Monday. The rep on the phone also tried to reach the installation coordinator and could not reach him either. I now have to take another day off hoping they'll show up. They used to be a good company but will never use them again. All I needed was a call back, some communication, etc...but they clearly could care less. I even contacted the sales rep who still has not called me back from 2 days ago. Really poor execution!! read more

Buying carpet from Empire was one of the single worst decisions I have ever made. The carpet I purchased for nearly my entire house has only been in for a few months, but it looks absolutely terrible, with large matted down patches throughout. The Empire salesman who sold me my new carpeting insisted the product wouldn't get matted down, and that's what won my business... I took him at his word and made the purchase right then and there. However, it now looks like my new carpet is 10 years old and in need of serious replacement.... Comparing the installed carpet to the left over remnants is depressing as you can see a distinct difference in color, texture, and firmness. I called Empire to complain and after a few weeks an inspector came out to my house to inspect our claim. At first, Empire wanted us to steam clean the carpet, but my wife and I refused since there were no stains, and steam cleaning it wouldn't be necessary since it was practically just installed (and frankly, I shouldn't have to steam clean a brand new carpet that I haven't stained... more on this later). I also called our salesman, Anil, to voice my concerns about the carpet and complain that the product wasn't living up to what he promised, and failed to live up to his sales pitch. I told him I wanted him at my house at the same time the inspector came out so he could see for himself how he sold me carpeting that would be classified as a lemon if it were a car. I also wanted him to inform the inspector of what he had guaranteed me when he sold me the carpet as well... Anyway, Anil promised to meet my wife at my house with the inspector.... This however, did not happen. Anil failed to show up with the inspector, and when my wife called him to ask why he wasn't there, he claimed that his boss told him not to go.... I frankly don't care what his boss said, he made a promise to us as his customers that he would be in attendance, and then flaked out without even the courtesy of a phone call to tell my wife he didn't think we were important enough for his time. Moving on, the inspector took one look at our carpet and said that it shouldn't be matted down as much as it currently is, and that while all carpets get matted down with age, ours looked bad for how new it was... He also said he understood why we were making the complaint and that the problems with the carpet were not due to issues with the installation. He also asked if we steam cleaned the carpet (remember that?) and my wife said we didn't since it was so new and it didn't need it. The inspector went on to say that was the right decision, especially since he has seen Empire DENY REPLACEMENT claiming that the steam cleaning that THEY REQUIRE was done incorrectly and caused the carpet to be matted down. I shouldn't be shocked, but I am. Empire and Anil sold me a terrible product, and have lied to my wife and I throughout this entire process.... We frankly don't know if they will resolve our issue and replace this carpet with something that will hold up to normal wear and tear, but considering our treatment up to this point, I don't have the highest expectations. I was ecstatic when I first got this carpet installed, but now I'm furious... I recommended Empire, and Anil to my family and friends, but I've since called each and every one of them to let them know about this awful experience. My recommendation to you is to stay away from Empire. Do not trust them, their commercials, or their salespeople. Do not deal with Anil, or anyone else from the company. They will give you the run around and fail to live up to the expectations that they themselves will set for their products and service. Finally, if you want pictures of my carpet (I can even give you a side by side comparison with the remnant) or a copy of my invoice, just drop me a line and I'll send them to you. This is the last time I ignore Yelp's warning. I saw Empire's horrible rating, but still requested a free at-home estimate. I mean, what could be the harm? Well, the sales rep shows up (Jim Sweeney), asks whether this is my first estimate (it was), and then proceeds to explain that the size of the area is 1500 square feet. I didn't have any idea of the actual size so I didn't question his measurement. We negotiated a total price based on the rate per square foot. I took this per square foot rate to Home Depot and Lowes, who were unable to beat it. When Empire's installation crew arrived on the set-in-stone date (I had a renter moving in two days later), they failed to bring enough carpet. They stated they only brought 400 square feet. I explained my confusion since I had paid for 1500. The installers took a measurement and said the actual size was no more than 800. So, not only did Empire fail to install the carpet on the date I needed them to, I was also lied to about the amount of carpet needed. After I realized I had been deceived, I contacted home depot for a quote, which was almost half the price of Empire's. The customer service at Empire is abysmal. I called the 800 number three times after the failed installation without any solution. I kept getting told I would be called back very soon once they figured out the problem. When I finally spoke with the local sales manager a couple days later, he provided me with no solution and was not willing to re-negotiate a fair rate. I would give zero stars if I could. Empire is terrible, period. read more

The floors are beautiful. They have very fast workers who sometimes don't take the care they need to. For example my dishwasher was left hanging by two acres which no long hold. I had the maintenance guy out but it is still not solid. So you need to watch them like hawks There are a lot in and out of your house going as fast as they can. Empire salesman arrived ,showed me limited samples ( about ten colors ) that he thought would up his commisiion. The salesman was quick to get me to sign the contract so that I would not cancel or get additional estimates. They installed beautifully the next day, I paid over four thousand, repeat thousands, for living -dining,and family rooms of carpet and stairs. When I vacuum, dust balls from the piling quickly fill the vaccum cleaner. Strange, the carpet! Not sure of how good the quality. Lots of fine print to the contract. Beware of feeling pressured by what they consider a good deal. I wished I had called them last for an estimate, when getting my measurements! Never again. Be tough with the salesman, wait three days to schedule and do your "MATH" calculations! read more

This place is a joke. The sales rep came to my townhouse and quoted me $16k for 500 sq ft of wood floors when i told him its no more than a $5K job. He didn't even measure the space; but I knew the square footage. He said next day is $12K and tried to pressure me into it. I was basically laughing since I'm aware of these pushy sales techniques. He was following a sales script because when i asked him other questions his tone completely changed. I wanted to tell him to get out of my house. He suddenly dropped the price to $3500. As said by other reviewers he then got pushy and wanted me not to consider the other vendors. I said no, and he left. I told him by phone that my wife and I were stuck in traffic and probably would not be able to meet with him before our scheduled 7:00 pm appointment. When we did arrive for the appointment, the guy never showed uip. He just took off! He blew off our appointment. When I tried his cell, he did not answer. When we called Empire Today customer service, they called him, and he would not answer, Just amazing and very unprofessional. read more

If I could select NEGATIVE STARS, I would. I had my in-home estimate scheduled for this morning from 9am - 11am. This was a re-scheduling of an appointment last week that I had to change. Thus, I had previously informed both the 800 number and the actual salesperson (who I had spoken to directly on the phone last week) about the fact that parking was in the abundant 7-story county garage (only $0.75/hr!) DIRECTLY across the street. The salesperson, Allen "Nobody," called at 9:46am, stating that he could not find a free space in the garage. This was clearly an IMMEDIATE LIE. I responded by saying that it was impossible for that garage to be full (the county sites states 1,690 spaces). My numerous visitors over the years had never had trouble finding parking in that garage, regardless of time of day/day of week. Allen responds by saying that his samples were "very heavy." I respond by pointing out the fact that I had informed him of the parking situation last week so it shouldn't be a surprise and asked him if I had taken the day off work for nothing. As a courtesy, I walk downstairs to ask my building manager if Allen can park at the loading dock - today is trash day in my building, so negative on that. I call Allen back to tell him he must park in the garage. A few minutes later, he calls back saying he is downstairs. I give Allen my entry code, which he is unable to use for whatever incompetent reason. I walk back downstairs to greet him - he is carrying a thin messenger bag and what looks to be two 1'x1'x3" boards with carrying handles. These are the "heavy samples"??? This is what I ask him when I greet him. Long story short, he brings the wrong sample book, asks me "Do you even want to do this before I go back to my car and get the other book?" and has to measure my place twice before quoting me a price of $6K based on 700SF. What happened to the "$99/room sale" that going on??? My estimates elsewhere have come in between $2K and $3K. I tell Allen this and he eventually advises that he can get close, he just has to make a phone call. So he gets on the phone asking for the best price and tells me $5K. He did not tell the person he called any details on my square footage or materials choosen. An obvious FAKE PHONE CALL. I say no to $5K. Then Allen says he can get to $4,700 - I say that's still too high. Allen then says he can get to $3,600 but has to make one more call. He asks if I will install the next morning if I agree to $3,600. I say no - I need a day or two to think about it - I'm not locking in on the spot. He makes another charade of a call but it does not go through. He now tells me it has to be $5K. I tell him goodbye. On his way out, I pick up the "heavy samples" - they can't weight more than 5 lbs each. Man up, dude. Or just stop being lazy. And quit lying to your customers. If your compensation is commission-based, then I truly feel sorry for you. If you can cut your pricing from $6K down to $3,600 in a matter of minutes, that is a huge RED FLAG. BOTTOM LINE: FALSE SALES ADVERTISING, STRONG-ARM SALES TACTICS, INFLATED PRICING & INCOMPETENT STAFF. I will take my money elsewhere. Thanks for wasting my time, Empire Today. read more

Not worth the time! Last fall and now this spring I have attempted to get Empire to come out and give me a quote on putting new carpet, hardwood floors and tile in my house. Each time they have told me they would come out between 6-9pm and each time a rep would call up at 855pm or 9pm and say that they can't make it because of car problems. After reading a lot of these reviews on yelp I'm glad the rep never made it out as it looked like it saved me money and poor quality in material and labor. Don't give Empire your business!
