I've had Koobideh Kabob from many different places. This might be the best I've ever had, and in Coeur d'Alene, ID no less. Go figure.

Absolutely delicious. The service was good and the restaurant itself was cool. We will definitely be returning!

My wife and I came for a late lunch date. Not crowded and got very attentive service. We shared a pot of the black tea (was more than enough for a large family), and the tea had notes of cardamom, rose; warming on a cold Idaho winter day. We had all of the sides. The pickles are a the correct amount of spicy and full of funky acidic goodness. Everything paired well with the Eggplant Curry and Tikka Kabobs. We got 3/5 spice level and easily could have increased to 5/5 spice. It wasn't overpowering. You will attempt (but struggle) to clear your plates, the flavors are savory, and portions are large. I was most surprised by the rice... it's amazing... will return.

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE!!!! I tried Emran in CDA tonight with my husband. I only took the one photo because I WAS TOO BUSY STUFFING MAH FACE!! Let me just say, this is not just good Afghan food, this is good food, period. The ENTIRE LAMB SHANK nestled under the amazingly flavorful rice in the Kabuli Pulao was so juicy and tender, the meat literally fell off the bone - no knife needed. A mild yet delicious dish for those who don't love their food to be hot and spicy. The Manto, dumpling-y delicious pockets of goodness, were cooked perfectly and FULL of different flavors and textures. We ordered those at a spice level 3. They were a bit spicy, but overall just super flavorful. And the Eggplant Curry with Naan we ordered at a level 4 had a KICK! It had very complex flavors that kept me guessing and coming back for more! Sides of a raita-type yogurt sauce and a pico-type "salsa" accompanied our entrees. They were great for dipping and saucing everything! Pro Tip: Put a Manto on a piece of Naan. Do it. Not pictured were a couple of desserts we squirreled away until we got home. Um....YUM! There were over 12 types of desserts to choose from so you know I gotta go back just to try more of those. AND THEY CATER! AND THE OWNERS ARE SUPER NICE!! They plan on decorating more with traditional Afghan decor, bringing in a belly dancer, and expanding the menu in the weeks and months to come. Go. Just go. Thank me later.

Afghan food at its best. This unique and delicious cuisine is not to be missed on your world tour of foods! Sit in a traditional style booth and feast on Mantou dumplings (my favorite). All the rice and halal meat dishes are fabulous. Be sure to try dessert as well.

    Dolmas - tasty!

The Meatballs with a side of rice was more of me trying something new, and I can say it was full of flavour and I was not disappointed at all. My wife and I had a rare night out for dinner last night and we were in Post Falls. The White House Grill is famous for their garlicky foods (not all) and we like that. We could smell garlic at the entrance. My wife ordered a version of a gyro and Greek salad, which she described as "OK." It was a pita with curried chicken, unlike what she preferred as a gyro (chicken, no curry), but she tried it. I ordered the souvlaki (lamb kabobs), served over a large bed of rice and with "garlicky" green beans. The lamb, by the way was very tough to cut and to chew, more like mutton but not with any fat. Rethinking, I shouldn't have tried lamb at all, simply on ethics (mine). It looked enticing but I couldn't taste any of it. That is because I couldn't smell any of it, even when holding the plate right under my nose. No smell, no taste. That was because our 18-ish server was reeking of perfume, like she bathed in it. I believe there was another servicer of about the same age walking around with the same odor. It reminded me of a church service and elderly ladies. The most difficult part here is that our server was great! She was clear-spoken, sharp, and friendly. I just couldn't breathe when she came to our table (3-4 times). Maybe she doesn't like to smell garlic or want to smell like it, herself, but I can't return. I have two adult children who are both professional servers, so I hope these young women will understand and make adjustments for the customers. She truly is great at her job, otherwise.

The mixed appetizer platter included hummus, baba ghanoush, dolma, fattoush, and falafel. The hummas was smooth and slightly sweet. It was covered in dill and sumac. I have had better but it was a really solid hummas. The baba ghanoush was smokey and not as smooth. It was really good! Dolma is a rice, herbs, and tomatoes leaf wrapped dish. I like it a lot! It was soft and tender! There was pomegranate molasses on top which was tart and helped cut the earthiness of the herbs! Fattoush was a salad that was sweet, sour, and refreshing! It contained romaine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and herbs! The falafel was good! Crispy and herby and paired really well with the hummus! I will say though they were slightly raw in the middle. The lamb ouzi was well worth the price! The rice was fragrant and spiced! The raisins were a perfect addition. The almonds added an interesting texture and taste. The lamb shank was tender and falling on the bone. It wasn't too gamey. It was a bit spicy but in a pleasurable way and not intolerable. It came with a side soup that was tomato based and too spicy for me, but the texture was nice and thick. Shish taouk was probably the best dish in my opinion! The fries were crunchy and warm. There were red onions, sumac, and parsley in the wrap! The meat was juicy and flavorful! Still it had a bit of spice! Shawarma loaded fries were good but simply too spicy for our party. They were crispy and covered in garlic sauce, pickles, cheese, and chili sauce. We did find the chicken was a bit too dry but the sauce did help balance that. The beef shawarma was too hot for the member who ordered it. I will say though that I did enjoy it. The meat wasn't as tender as we liked, it was sliced as thin as I liked. And the spice built up until it was too much. I will mention though if you're not used to spice and spicy food then maybe this isn't for you. Another member also mentioned the meat wasn't as charred as she liked. We got the Turkish coffee which I have to say isn't for a casual coffee drinker. It is akin to sucking on a coffee bean. The tea was unsweeted and I'm not sure if they is an option to sweeten, but it was refreshing. The vitmo was the best drink by far. We actually got more to go. It is similar to a cherry cola! It was fizzy and delicious! Service was great! Our server managed to memorize our order and get our order in a reasonable time with no mistakes. The ambience was warm, inviting, clean, and there was nice music in the background that wasn't too loud. The portions were well worth the price! I got a whole lamb shank for 20 bucks!

The service was friendly and nothing to complain about. Ambiance wise, this is a place where you go up to the counter and order your food and seat yourself and eat. It is not a sit-down restaurant or a place with waiter service. The Shawarma came out close to $20. It came with fries as well. The fries were not anything out of the ordinary but the shawarma itself was not very seasoned. The meat was cooked fine and there were no red flags, but I think the seasoning was very underwhelming. Maybe I didn't order the right thing, but I think a shawarma is pretty standard. I would probably not return, if given the chance.
