Well.... When we first tried it, it seemed understaffed and the food was ok but not worth the price. Then my wife went there one time on a Tuesday and it was a good deal for tacos and margs. Fair enough! Then our faith in this place being good was restored, so we went a few more times. Today was one of the times. For a while we had been enjoying that they had half price fajitas on Sundays for whatever kind of fajitas you want. We had been there a few times and had good service and liked the food etc. Then today happened. It started with "we are out of steak ingredients". But also now suddenly the half price fajitas only applies to chicken fajitas... ok, I get it food prices are harsh now, so that's fine. So we ordered stuff other than what we thought we were going there for. And figured it would be fine. BIG mistake! First of all, the place was really understaffed and even though it was not that busy. Our server was running around like he was in the weeds the whole time. Data point: there only appeared to be 2 servers. Can't blame the server for that! That however did lead to where a great many things went downhill from when they said "we have no steak for anything". Items that were a bummer. No steak: fine- it happens Chicken fajitas: served with no tortillas at all even though extra tortillas was asked for. Chicken fajitas: somehow there was fish in them?!?! Like really?!? Wow. Charro beans: we both asked for those and apparently they ran out of those too, so only one of us got them and then they were not even hot. Chicken fajitas again: ordered some to go for take home to other family members... but nope, not available because apparently now they ran out of fajita vegetables!!! Tacos: since steak fajitas not available, ordered a 3 taco plate instead. Truth be told, it took the kitchen forever to make those and we even saw the server try and tell the kitchen the issues with our order but he got little to no help from them. Bottom line: Supply issues with food in menu, not cool. Temperature issues with food that includes meat, not cool. So understaffed in front of house that server did everything he could and our dinner still was super disappointing, also not cool. We should have gone to 3 Margaritas or Real de Minas honestly. Came for some margs and tacos for first time. It was fairly empty make 2-3 tables of People at 3pm on Saturday. Daniel was very nice acting as host, server, bartender for us. The margs were great - I got the blackberry margarita without cilantro. My guest got gold with a floater Grand Marnier on top. Was potent. We got the chips, queso and tomatillo app. The cheese was good and salsa spicy. Next we shared the fajita beef and shrimp. I wish I said medium but he didn't ask either. The meat was definitely well done and not super tender. The Vegis with it were good and poblano rice and elote side was good, small side cups so not like a huge amount to share but it worked for us. We got the sopapillas at the end and I didn't like taste of dough it had an after taste also didn't like the honey packets they were thick. Just throw some in a squeeze bottle and serve. They do offer caramel and/or chocolate with and the chocolate was good. Not a bad place for some tacos and drinks before a movie I'd say. I may venture back One day. read more

Decided to try En Fuego Cantina for Happy Hour with a friend. It happened to be on a Tuesday, which is Taco Tuesday (all-day happy hour). Happy Hour usually runs from 3-6pm Sun through Thursday with drink specials and all tacos for $6, so these hours are pretty busy. There is a high-top bar with plenty of seating, as well as tables with booths. Most of their cocktails are premade, so you cannot have the ingredients adjusted. If a drink is not on HH, it will run around $15+, which, to me, is a bit pricey for something as simple as a ranch water (what I ordered). Our server was very attentive and gave us some suggestions on his favorite tacos. Tacos come with a choice of a corn or flour tortilla. I had the quesabirria taco on a corn tortilla. The meat was good, as was the cilantro slaw. The beef tenderloin on the flour tortilla had great flavor. If you are local to the Southlands area, this will be your go to for Tex Mex authentic-ish style tacos. We have been waiting for a new place to open up in this spot. We learned they have been in operation for about 7 months. It is a cozy atmosphere with Latin photos and a nice size bar area. They have happy hour that starts off at 2. I really enjoyed my chicken fried chicken taco and carnitas taco. The slaw on the carnitas taco burst with yummy pineapple. I ordered a skinny margarita. The cost of $14 was shocking, and it just wasn't good. It tasted like straight lime juice and no salt on rim. They were also out of 2 of the three drafts that they advertise. The server was quiet but attentive. Lastly, they have good guacamole and chips. Their elote needed a bit more seasoning and their charro beans, well needed more beans. This space has changed restaurants several times and nothing seems to stick. So when Ted Montana's Grill next-door had over an hour wait and this place had opened seating I wasn't hopeful. We were starving so we decided to give it a shot anyway. Immediately, I noticed how friendly the staff was and grateful that we were quickly seated. I decided to just order a bunch of things on the menu to give it all a shot, since I didn't think it would last long nor that we would be back. When I tell you, I was floored by how delicious these tacos were I've already been back twice to get more. The Elote appetizer was better than I could've possibly expected, and the queso with guac and chips was a really great portion considering price. At this point, I've tried every taco on the menu and I highly recommend all of them. I wanna say steak is my favorite but honestly, it could be any one of them on a different day. To top it off, the drinks were strong, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I think in time this place will have the hour wait and not the other way around. Southlands has finally got another great restaurant and I believe they're here to stay. The decor's classic Mexican restaurant with a warm family touch. The lighting is great not too bright comfortable for eating a meal and this restaurant could be for an intimate date night dinner, a night out with the family and even a fun evening with friends. Must stop if going to the AMC theater in Southlands. Lunch special 2 designer tacos and soft drink $12. They open at 11 am. We tried many of the menu items and they were all fresh and had a light flare! Read the company mantra about supporting local farms! I actually didn't capitalize the word horrible at first but deleted it and capitalized it so people don't underestimate my review. We waited 15 minutes just to order after our waitress dropped off our menus and they weren't even busy. Wife and I ordered only 2 tacos each and 1 elote to share and waited almost 30 minutes and when they brought the tacos I didn't even know what to say. Altogether we ended up being there an hour for us to each 2 tacos. Pathetic. We ordered 1 shrimp taco which didn't come with anything other than 2 shrimp and cheese. $8 per. Missing pineapple salsa. Ordered 2 carnitas tacos and only had pork and cheese on it. $7 per. Missing coleslaw and crema. Ordered 1 skirt steak taco. Only steak and cheese on it. $8 per. Missing Mexican slaw. Buyer beware. Waitress asked if we wanted corn or flour tortilla so we ordered flour. Tortillas were hard and not flour at all. They are a mixture of corn and flour and SUPER SMALL. Look at my pictures. Ordered elote which was only a cup of corn with cheese and cilantro. Suppose to be in a Latin sauce but it was only the corn juice you'd get in a can of corn and it wasn't supposed to have cilantro. Didn't even eat it. To be fair we asked if the tacos come with cilantro and the waitress said yes so we ordered no cilantro. Apparently the salsa and slaw have cilantro in it so the didn't give us anything. Not what we meant when we said no cilantro but then they brought elote with cilantro when the menu doesn't list it. See picture. The picture they used to post on social media prior to their opening is a picture of 3 crispy tacos. Wife tried to order and they don't even sell crispy tacos. Lastly, they ran out of multiple things like shrimp for tacos. Save your time and money. Came here for a happy hour with friends. Happy hour prices were a good deal and the tacos weren't bad. Drinks were a different story. A friend asked for a skinny margarita and the waitress said "we can't really do that." Another friend ordered rum and coke and it was vanilla flavored. Everything about our experience was average. Waitress was kind, food was fine, but overall, nothing special. We came on a Friday night and it was pretty quiet with not too many tables filled. The prices are a little high for the quality of food, but likely due to the Southlands location. At minimum, chips and salsa as a complimentary app would have given them another star. read more

Wow!!!! Whoa! So I've lived here in Southlands for 14 years and I'm highly appalled! We sat the bar, we we're served 1 drink. Never we're we asked if we would like food menus. The bar tender served everyone else at the bar several drinks and asked if they wanted additional drinks and/or refills. Our glasses were low, still nothing. Finally, our glasses were empty still nothing, [she] bartender looks at the others next to us and asked then if they wanted more drinks and did so. We were amazed and put our empty glasses at the end of the bar ledge to make it obvious we were out. Bartender looks at them and goes about her business Ike were not even there. I now stack the glasses and put the empty beer bottle in one glass, still nothing. Finally, some people next to us started laughing because they noticed we weren't getting any service. One person said, "Are y'all only having 1 drink?" I replied, " Well, we want more, but I guess we can't get service at the bar. " That person looks at the bartender and says, "Hey, can they get another drink?" Bartender says yeah if they want, what do y'all want? We were so appalled, we just said, "Can we get our check, we're good, We'll go to another bar/restaurant in Southlands. I signed my check and w/ no tip. I'm not tipping on zero service and ignoring customers right directly in front of you for over an hour. I walk into every bar/restaurant and start at 20% tip in my head, then go up as the service is given. I'm in the service industry. I would be appalled if any of my staff members, especially my Bartenders, ever gave that kind of service to anyone. As customers sit down anywhere in our establishment, we offer a food and drink menu. Next, we ask if they would like some water still or bubbly. Next, we say I will give you a few mins to review the menus unless you know what drinks you are ready to order. I can't really rate the food as we were never given the option to see what the food was to try it. I really wanted to try the food to see how it was and compare it to the two other Latin restaurants; this location was previously, which my family frequented several times weekly. After this experience, I'm not really sure we want to return to try the food either now. read more

Upscale but not overpriced freshly made tacos !! I chose the Mahi, Skirt Steak and Barilla tacos. ALL of them were excellent and freshly made. The salsas and guacamole is definitely made fresh daily and the chips weren't overly salted and greasy. Inside to the left you see long fully stocked oak bar. I have heard they make excellent drinks but can't comment since we dropped by for lunch. An industrial look pervades the dining area with Copper top tables and brick walls. The service was excellent and had great suggestions while ordering and we never had an empty glass of water. For dessert we chose the churro bites with caramel sauce.......made fresh and was also a good way to top off the lunch. I am happy that the same customer service and excellent freshly prepared food was consistent with the owners other establishment Heritage Cafe just with a Mexican Menu. Concept behind En Fuego Cantina is a la' carte items which include appetizers, sides, tacos, and desserts. Want a drink? Take a look at the Booze Menu. Started with a Blackberry Cilantro Margarita; tangy, sweet, and the cilantro was not overpowering. Didn't do appetizers but we knew we were ordering extra to try many items and have leftovers. For sides we ordered Elote, Spanish Risotto, and Charrrrro Beans (yes, that's how it's spelled!). Tacos can be ordered regular or as a street taco. We experienced the Pork Carnitas, Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Skirt Steak, and the Not Quesabirria Taco (the owner loves naming his dishes!). Meat was spilling out of the corn/flour tortillas, and the cole slaw on a couple of them was really good. Dessert was the Chocolate Flan, we took it go so no review but it looked amazing. Went in Friday night for the first time and we were highly impressed! We were seated after 5 mins and service was attentive. We really enjoyed the tacos(Shrimp was my favorite)!! We also had the churros which were very good! The drinks sound amazing but I didn't order one. It is a little on the pricey side so hope they bring their prices down a little.
