Had a mean craving for tacos and wings. An interesting mix yes I know but they are my two favorite meals. Had this place on my list of places to try for a year now. Not a fan of the 5 car parking lot but the food definitely made up for it. Wings were different, but tasty. They served it with a side of pickled jalapeños and a green sauce drizzled over them. They make their own buffalo sauce that has a spicy kick to it but not too much. The tacos were just ok. I went during happy hour so everything I ordered was under $10. I like that they make all of their own salsas which I got to taste with the unlimited chips and salsa which was a good touch. Will be back with friends for sure read more

So had lunch here yesterday and I've heard RAVE reviews about this place. Uhhhhhhhh, guess you can't be vegan to share the sentiment. (I said what I said) Yeah it's a cute atmosphere and in trendy Scott's Addition but, the vegan options of seriously lacking. I ordered black bean tacos and the chorizo tacos. Only finished them cause I was hungry. It was edible food. I personally won't be back because they don't cater to vegans. At. All. On the upside, our bartender had a lead hand. Perhaps alcohol will help you find more delight in the food if you're vegan. (Or sneak in your own vegan cheese and sour cream) The ONLY way I'll be back here is if I'm meeting for drinks and plan to stick to salsa, guacamole and chips. Tacos use to be great. Now my fish tacos barely had anything in them. They must be trying to save money. No cilantro no limes just a piece of fried fish that was mostly breading. As you see on my former review years ago I gave it 5 stars with a photo of how wonderful the tacos were and all the toppings on them. Not anymore !!! I would give this place 3.8 stars overall. Atmosphere: Very limited seating indoors due to COVID and limited seating outside with very little shade. Food: My fiancé and I got two fish tacos, a carnitas and the tinga chicken tacos. We also got chips, salsa and queso. The best thing we're the fish tacos. The slaw was creamy, refreshing and the perfect topping for the fried fish. The carnitas were too fatty and the chicken was too wet with lacking flavors. I came here in august of 2020. Mid rona surge so I did pick up at takeout window I grabbed a variety of tacos 2 or 3 of just about every kind, except for the carnitas which were unavailable I still remember these as being me and my SO worst meal of 2020. Lacking in salt, or flavor in general. The tortillas were plain and depressing. The fish tasted like someone battered and fried fish with no salt. The service in this place is LIGHTENING FAST! We sat down and I can't even exaggerate the food was in front of me less than 5 minutes from when we ordered. The food is as good as another similar joint in Richmond, but the guacamole is so much better! Really delicious just on chips but it makes every single one of their entrees a lot better too. Just ask for a vat of it, if possible. My boyfriend and I got to sit in the outdoor seating area which is beautiful, especially if you go for dinner (perfect golden hour/sunset viewing spot). read more

I really can't speak highly enough of this restaurant. I've recently moved away from Richmond and I am waiting in high anticipation for the day I will return and eat at En Su Boca. Their tacos are simply delicious- I'm not sure what it is about them but I can't seem to find better tacos anywhere. To make it even better, it's only $3 per taco, with deals like 4 for $11. This makes it very affordable and 3 tacos here will definitely fill you up. Did I mention their cocktails are great (very strong) and there's endless chips and salsa for less than $10? The only negative comment I have is that on fridays/saturdays it gets PACKED for dinner and you can't make a reservation. That generally means waiting at the bar (which is extremely cramped) or outside if it's nice out, for 1+ hours while you wait for a table... I think it's worth the wait though. read more

I've been to En Su Boca a few times now, and I have to tell you that I crave their Sloppy Jose tacos. The elotes are good, though I would prefer them if they had plain mayo instead of lime mayo. I've had the chicken tinga tacos and the carnitas, both of which are also all right. The southern fried fish tacos are excellent, too. But the Sloppy Jose is where it's at! As far as drinks go, I've been impressed by the Smoke Show (very well-balanced mezcal mixed drink) and disappointed by the Mile High Club (it was so sour the waitress brought me a thimbleful of simple syrup to make it more drinkable -- though the creme de violette makes it very pretty). The wait staff is incredibly friendly and helpful -- this time the waitress even brought me a shot of tequila for my birthday weekend! I will definitely come back again and again. read more

Although I have been here several times, I have never gotten around to reviewing the old porn shop turn taco stand! There are several taco places in Richmond, and all of them tend to be about the same. En Su Boca fits in nicely with the rest of them. They offer a concise menu of New Age and traditional tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. They have a very extensive bar with plenty of good Mexican beers to wash down the tacos. The atmosphere is very hip, and there are two patios outside on which you can have your dog. My only issue with this particular visit is that my meal was served on a plate with a thumb size chip taken out of it. I'm kind of surprised that made it past the pass. All in all, I will say this is a very solid taco joint. Beware of the parking as it is very limited, so be in there during crowded times may prove challenging. I've checked into this place 4 more times since my last review. All four times I've had the fish tacos and they continue to be perfection. The last two visits I've have the "lunch special" which is two fish tacos with a side of rice and beans. The black beans are good but that Spanish rice needs A LOT of work. I mean A LOT. I love the tacos and I'm officially a diehard fan of those things. They are superb and I hope you never change a single thing about them. But boys, get it together with the Spanish rice. It's God awful and has a crunch to it that doesn't need to be there. Give that rice 20 minutes to absorb the water and maybe use more water. I vote a 2:1 ratio gentleman. Little salt never hurt anyone either, put some salt in there. You've managed to make the best damn fish tacos in Richmond so I have full faith you'll be able to fix that rice. En Su Boca is a good place to go for unique flavors, though for those who are used to cheese in their food, you will leave disappointed (and broke). I had the good fortune to win a gift certificate to come here and looked forward to the opportunity to try a place which would normally be a bit pricey for my tastes. The restaurant is right around the corner from my apartment and in a good location, especially for parking (I was amazed at how easy it was). Being a nice night, we decided on an outside table and it was quite nice (until other tables started yelling their conversations, anyway). Even the inside seating had open doors, so they could enjoy the nice night, too. A restaurant's menu is a great way for the place to tell you if you belong here or not. The prices here quickly convey that the answer is: "no, not you, or you, maybe you, show me your credit card first". The varieties of tequila available are impressive and swell for the Reposado fanatic, though you'll wonder where you fit into all of this. As far as food prices, the numbers are still high. Those accustomed to Chipotle and/or Little Mexico prices will squirm a bit, though you hold out hope that the quality of your meal will make up for the price differential. Annnnnd.... With the exception of the unlimited chips/salsas, the quality of food does not match the price differential. Were the flavors unique? Yes, very limey and salsa-y. Were they good? Not quite so much. The attempts here seem to be to cut out as much cheese from menu items as possible, a serious disadvantage for all diners except for Vegan purists. I had the carnito asada (or something like that, I speak English and German, not Spanish) tacos and my lady friend had a burrito. Her conclusion was the same as mine in regards to taste. It was a Saturday night and understandably busy, though the number of callbacks early on for us was low and towards the end was high (which generally means that they cared more about you getting out and freeing up a table for them than they cared about your satisfaction). Our server was nice, though. As someone who used to do exactly what she does, I can understand the plight of peak weekend dinner hours. In the absence of another gift certificate, I'd be unlikely to return. For tequila fiends, cheese haters, and those who REALLY value outdoor seating (though not necessarily good conversation), you should definitely stop on by. Overall: 3.0 stars ----------- Pros: - Food was alright, in a limey sort of way. - Best tequila selection I have EVER seen, hands down. - Just smelling the air here is a pleasure. Your olfactory senses will appreciate it! - Outside seating is beautiful on a temperate night. - Parking was surprisingly easy. The unlimited chips/salsa is a great deal, though any other appetizer and all of the entrees are not for the casual diner. Taking a look around at the regular clientele here tells you that this place is not for college students or those on a normal budget. - VOLUME. You'd think being out in the open would help with the acoustics, though I could barely hear my friend over the cacophony of conversations going on around us. It seems some people think "being outside" means "I must use my loudest outside voice". - Service was less than what I expected. I'm a little disappointed! I have BRAGGED about how amazing the fish tacos are to my sister for years. She's finally here in town visiting & I brought her to try them. It was a Friday night, & I felt lucky to get seated right away. My table was right by a door and it was WINTER cold out & people were walking in and out making our dining experience not amazing. About 5 minutes after being seated I got up to ask the hostess if we could sit somewhere away from the door & was told the table that was soon to be available was for large parties. I understood & let it go. Mind you, I have a toddler, and three adults in my party. About 3 minutes later, a party of four was seated in the booth where I had requested to move to. And shortly after, a party of 3 was seated at another table suitable for 4 people. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. I probably won't return because of this. It's not worth even having a discussion about. Too bad too....I do really enjoy the food here. Stopped by on a Sunday night for dinner. We ordered the bottomless chips & salsa, queso, fried fish quesadilla, and carnitas burrito. The food was all very delicious - we were impressed. But unfortunately, the service was not great. We waited a long time after being seated to be greeted by a server. At the end of our meal, our server asked if we were all finished with food and drink, we said yes and asked for the checks, so she cleared the table. Afterwards, she walked by multiple times, even clearing our water glasses, but never brought our checks. After about thirty minutes of waiting, we walked inside the restaurant to ask for our checks; our waitress seemed very unbothered. I've wanted to eat at this place for years and I finally got takeout. whomp whomp whommp, ugh I was disappointed. We ordered the NACHOS TOTOPOS and a couple of chicken tacos. Our nachos were super soggy though we snatched up our order as soon as it was done. The tacos were better than the nachos. The food wasn't terrible, it just maybe didn't live up to my expectations. I've definitely had better for less. I wouldn't say the food is the best, but they are always packed and it looks cool there so..... I likely will not be back here unless it's a free meal for me. I used to have a radio show over at WRIR, the Independent station in Richmond. My girlfriend and I (now my wife) loved to go into En Su Boca after the show. We'd go every Tuesday night. The service was always comically bad. The bartenders are joyless and un-talkative, the servers surly and untrained. We'd laugh about it. We loved the drinks, the nachos and the fact that they served late. We moved away from Richmond at the beginning of Covid, but finally made it back for a visit. We were really looking forward to nachos and margaritas at En Su Boca. We joked that we probably wouldn't even get service. Well... that's exactly what we got. Nothing. We were seated and waited for 20 minutes; laughing the whole time at how comically inept the service was. I flagged down a server and asked for someone to come. Pick up of our order was seamless with the exception of them being out of agua Fresca (guess that means it's pretty good!) we ordered the ten tacos for $25, half carnitas, half fish, street corn and tortilla chips w salsa trio. There was wayyyyyyy too much food but it was too good to stop eating! Fantastic, authentic street tacos. Delicious tortillas and the carnitas and fish were perfectly cooked ! However, after 15+ minutes of waiting for a server to take our drink and food orders, AND seeing another couple seated 10 minutes after we were have their orders taken immediately, we were fed up left. Not to be "one of those people", but I couldn't help but notice that we were the only Black or Latino patrons of the restaurant at that time. However, I digress... While the food may or may not have been good, service certainly left a lot to be desired. We went today and they've taken covid-19 measures. It looks like you can only do outdoor seating and it's a somewhat small outside. But the have tall heaters. The food was tasty and warm. I like the selection of appetizers. The fish tacos were good but it looked like that they breaded the fish. It was good that they did not overdo it though. I recommend this restaurant. They double upped the tortillas like traditional street tacos, but they used normal tortillas so it was just super thick. One tortilla is enough. Wings: $0.75 each during happy hour. If you are on the fence, please jump over the fence, and mouth first into the best nachos that will ever grace your sweet little tongue. Nachos Totopos (no meat necessary) have brought me pure satisfaction time and time again. Wash it down with a frozen house margarita and you shan't need worldly possessions any further as you have reached enlightenment in this astral plane.
