It was National Margarita Day and I'd heard the margs here were great. And it was! I initially ordered the marg/sangria mix but was told about specials for the day so I went with a medium, frozen mango marg. Perfect. The food was a bit of a let down. The burrito Mexicana was warm (as was the beans) when it came to the table and the cheese on top was more like room temp....I ate about 3 bites before returning to the standard chips + salsa. Tiny but popular Mexican restaurant is cozy and pretty inside. Immediately served crispy chips and thick flavorful salsa. We asked for queso and a very generous portion was quickly delivered. I ordered Texas taco salad and hubby ordered the chimichanga. The entrees were quickly delivered and both very plentiful portions. We agreed our entrees were delicious! We went in for a nice meal the night of the 26th. The girl was new and we had general questions on the menu. She was nice but didn't know what beers were on tap, what the different fajita offerings were or much of what the items were included on the menu. We respectfully asked for another waiter. The new waiter was extremely rude and entitled. She had audacity to say you don't have to be rude. Then they repeated our items on the menu and still managed to mess up our items brought out. It was my dad's birthday, and they, even though they confirm the order for the dinner meals, they did not bring out his order! We had to ask twice for his order to be brought out. And then when we asked for a birthday song to be sung to him, they said no one's there. But that they would give a free dessert. We said just forget it. We don't even want the free dessert. Just a nasty attitude all around is all we got served. The manager even refused to come out. Message to the owner: To compete with Plaza Azteca, fix your staff from the manager on down including the girl with a nasty attitude who has no people skills. This used to be our very favorite Mexican. We were loyal for years. But now they have new ownership and they took it to a funky trend. They no longer have combination platters, normal refried beans, only mush black beans and no Pork Carnitas. Except for Al Pastor tacos. What Mexican restaurant would stop serving any of those 3 areas?? It's seems more about the super burritos, quck tacos and the bar. We sat down and waited a good 5-10 minutes for our server he asked what we wanted to drink then disappeared again. Finally came back to take our order. I had to ask someone else for napkins and had to ask him for more water, more salsa and some white sauce then we never saw him again. The food - the white sauce was so spicy I couldn't eat it. The food was excellent, but the service was struggling a bit for me. The waiter was new so we were very accommodating to her not knowing all the menu items but she also didn't speak english and could barely understand what we were ordering. She returned to our table time and time again to ask...what kind of tortilla, what kind of drink, sugar or salt rim, how did we want our sides cooked..etc. It became a bit frustrating especially since we were one of maybe 3-4 tables in the entire restaurant. The food finally came after all the back & forth and it was good. I had the steak quesadilla and added jalapeños. It was made fresh and had plenty of flavor on the meat. We decided on the chicken taco salad and the burrito fajitas. When I tell you that the food was out in 5 mins....that exactly how long it took. For the burritos, the plate was hot but the beans were lukewarm at best. I'm not a huge fan of my rice having frozen veggies in it so that was a bit off putting. The drink menu has zero prices - surprise surprise!!! all in all, it was decent. Not saying I would return considering there are so many Mexican spots to try. Authentic Mexican spot! The margaritas are okay, they tasted like premade mix but they weren't bad. We really enjoyed the queso - it was so good and had a little bit of spice! I visited Tres Machos for the first time and was pretty impressed! It's tucked away near some offices, so I didn't realize it was there until my dad mentioned hearing good things about it. Overall, the food was really good. I got the dinner combo 2 which is a chicken burrito and chicken flautas with rice and beans. The chicken was a little dry, but I put a bit of the hot sauce served with my dad's tacos and it made a huge difference. Service was okay. I am not sure if they were understaffed, but after taking our order, we didn't see our waitress until she brought the check. This meant no water refills. It took a while for our food to come out, but it was hot and fresh, so it was worth the wait. They were out of all diet sodas, which was disappointing for my sugar-free mom. Burritos just aren't as good with water. Overall, I think Tres Machos is a hidden gem. I'm sure I will be back again in the future. read more

So, I ate at Tres Machos several years ago and gave it a so-so review, but going back, I'm giving it an upgrade! A group of 15 of us went in, on a Friday night. We called ahead and the staff had the tables ready for us. I'm so glad I gave this place another look because our experience last night was very different from previously and everything was delicious. Between all of us, we probably ordered 11 different dishes and I heard zero complaints from anyone. I spend a great deal of time in Mexico and my go-to is Tacos Al Pastor. While not quite like the real un Americanized Al Pastor, the Tres Machos dish was quite tasty. My order came with the standard 3 "street" tacos (they were a little larger than the real ones). I was satisfied with 2 and took the last one home where it's going to be my lunch today! The waiters were efficient and friendly. The food didn't take long to get to the table. No complaints. Pretty good Mexican food. Always had great service and food is never bad. It's not like out of this world authentic Mexican food but it's better than most the places around here. I do think they have the best chile Rellenos in Richmond. They aren't the best ever but compared to everyone else they are the best I've had around here. Most food is good and reasonably priced. The only thing I think is terrible about this place though is any of their cheaper stuff. Like the ground beef in their cheap tacos or enchiladas you might get in their combos is honestly worse than Taco Bell. Taco Bell is a step up honestly ans im not a Taco Bell lover. If they didn't serve that trash or just maybe bought better meat I'd say it would be a 4/5 star place. So - good food usually just don't get anything with their ground beef. read more

Not a regular but did notice the menu had changed. They do not have a simple dinner of tacos rice and beans. Seems to be more street taco vibe at 5.00 per taco. I ordered a quesadilla, 6.00. Steak was shaved steak, good flavor but dry, outside not crisp and cheese not melted. The rice is delicious but the black refried beans look and taste unappealing. I asked to add mushrooms, they did not have any. Weird ! I think I saw pasta on the menu !! I won't be back, I want some of the traditional items like carnitas. read more

Went for the first time since the change. First off they got rid of all draft beers. Big disappointment. Secondly, wife order a margarita, waiter specifically asked salt or no salt. She said no salt, came with salt. The menu has been completely changed. Favorite items are no longer there. What was dinners before, and included beans and rice, now are ala carte and cost the same. I tried one of their new entrees, chicken with pineapple. There was only one ring of pineapple. The chicken was bland. It came with a tiny amount of salsa, onions and cilantro. No beans or rice. No cheese. Not worth $19. Caso Fundito is still there as Mexican cheese with chorizo. It was still goo, but costs more for the same item. And on a Friday night, the place was empty! That should have been our first clue. This used to be the best Mexican Restaurant in the area. No it is the worst. Will be looking for a new favorite. read more

They changed owners and it's awful. We used to come weekly with my kids' dance studio and our entire neighborhood but we are here now and the menu is awful. Theres no carnitas, no seafood, no ground beef, no refried beans and the chips are rancid. The salsa also tastes like tomato sauce. This will be the downfall of this establishment. People are leaving right after they walk in. We used to tip 60-70% because this place was amazing. It's now horrendous. Stay away. read more

The food here is great and service is outstanding. We have tried several dishes and all of them delicious. They are way above other Mexican restaurant in Chesterfield as far as the quality of their food! I would of giving it 5 stars but we were sitting at a table in front of bar on the north side ( yellow wall) and the wall was pretty nasty and so were the little condiments sitting on the tables. Please consider cleaning the wall and have wait staff wipe down condiments once a week. read more

Loved the food!!! I got the fried, beef chimichangas (my favorite) and they were so excellent!! They make them the way they are supposed to - with shredded beef. Other mexican food places I have eaten used to use shredded beef, but now use something "else" so I am so glad I found this place. I saw some reviews about some not speaking English in there - so what - the food is great!!!! I loved it when the young waiter had trouble with some English. Tres Machos; yum!! I visited this place a couple of times a while back and it's close to my work no so I thought I'd give 'em another go! If you're in the mood for great Mexican food and equally great (strong ;-) drinks, this place will not disappoint! Their happy hour gets this place poppin everyday. The atmosphere is super laid back, yet charming with welcoming and traditional decor. For lunch I ordered a chicken and spinach enchilada under the lunch special, for pick up. Their lunch special prices are pretty decent, especially for the portions they offer. All meals come with a complimentary bag of tortilla chips, salsa and queso. Later, I order Mixed Fajita Nachos(Bomb af). My food was done in 10mins and it was delicious! Some places go overboard with the spinach or spinach sauce but theirs was just right and it had a nice portion of chicken in it where you can tell they didn't skimp. Too bad I couldn't finish it; my eyes were bigger than my stomach today. The best part is; it's just as good the next day! Final word: Quick, hearty, delicious.
