This is my favorite taco place in Richmond! They have great vegetarian options and they're very willing to make substitutions if you want vegan or gluten free options! The black bean tacos are my personal favorite. The Mexican street corn is amazing so get an order to share with a friend! Their tortilla chips are really thick (I prefer them thinner) but their salsa is so good that I can't complain! Note: the chips aren't free but they're worth the couple of bucks they cost! I met some friends here for drinks and a late dinner after we'd been out hiking all day. It was a slow Tuesday and we were greeted and seated immediately. En Su Boca has a great location- in the city but without the hassle of fighting for parking. Inside is spacious and clean but with some character, like you'd expect from this particular location and ownership. The service was downright incredible. I wish I had gotten her name. She was super friendly without being fake, social without being obnoxious, actually gave us an opinion (instead of "everything is good") when we asked between a few things, was totally on top of drinks and chips and any little need- but never hovered. I had fish tacos, which I really enjoyed and a beer from the pretty decent beer menu. The fish tacos were on point. So were the chicken tacos of one of my friends. Their fish tacos are what dreams are made of. I've tried several things on the menu and everything is outstanding. A good amount of spicy for the soy chorizo. Wings are extra crispy and the sauce is delicious. The patio is awesome in the summer and big enough for large parties, although in the winter you'll have to go in smaller groups :) read more

Loved this location, but poorly hosted. Would comment about the food but they won't seat us. We were quoted a 35 minute wait, and it's been over an hour. An open table was available but now there are "rules" for seating and many larger parties have been seated a head of us. And weren't even offered a sorry for our wait. Fantastic Sunday afternoon lunch. Started with chips/salsa/guac and my gosh, we were off to a great start. Chips are homemade and delicious. Guac was fantastic and a huge bowl to share. Oh, and chips came with three types of salsa, all of which were fresh and fabulous (mild, to a hot and to a really hot, IMHO, but I loved them all.) We also ordered queso which came in a baby crock pot and wasn't just queso but as the name suggests "Fundido Queso" had poblano peppers and chorizo at the bottom that was so finely chopped it was perfect for dipping. My friend and I shared a "sloppy Jose" quesadilla which was out of this world but after eating endless chips and queso, I was about done before I got started. I came at a busy time so maybe that's the cause of some of the issues but when I first entered I was not really greeted by anyone and stood around a while before someone showed up to take me to my table. The hostess was stand of ish and I barely could understand her. Waited an abnormally long amount of time before someone came to our table to take our order. Like to the point where we waited so long we just ordered everything at once. The bottomless chips were good but with how slow service was we couldn't really get a refill. My quesadilla was good but they put all the cheese in one spot so every bite was either entirely cheese or entirely meat. They had some interesting menu items so I will probably come back to check those out but I would not recommend going to this place during peak hours unless you want very sub par service. read more

Everything was delicious. First time customers here. The Ceviche appetizer was refreshing and so tasty! Order the Grilled Street Corn...terrific as a side dish...taste perfection. The three of us ordered the Tacqueria Caesar salad with grilled shrimp...fabulous, the veggie burrito, loved it and the pulled pork quesadilla...they accommodated my 8 year olds request to make it simple...but it was still special. Service is horrible. Do not come here for happy hour it is ridiculous. It took my friends and I 15 minutes to be seated, 15 more minutes to be greeted. Once we ordered our food, it took awhile to get our margaritas. The margaritas here are generous with the Tequila. If thats how you like to drink it. You'll like it here. The fish tacos are pretty good. Not the best i've had or the worst either. Its the tortilla. It doesn't know if it wants to be a corn or flour one. Get them on Monday when they are $1 each from 5-6pm. I also split the Grilled Street Corn with a friend. It was pretty good. It comes with two ears of corn. A great addition to the Boulevard area. They thought about everything in the renovation - down to the landscaping. The fried fish tacos were finger lickin' good and the waitstaff were quick to offer solid recommendations to new customers. Small things to consider: there is no kids menu, but the kitchen was willing to make a special cheese quesadilla upon request for the kiddo. Let me start this off by explaining that I'm originally from Arizona and I love this place because it reminds me of home. You will not find more authentic tacos in the Richmond area. The margaritas are STRONG but delicious, not made from a mix I'm certain. The chips are not what people are used to, very thick, but I wouldn't say they are bad. There are a lot of options for different salsas to have with them. Do not walk on the fish tacos because I always get the chicken but I tried to fish the other day and woahhhh. The tacos are reasonably priced at one for 3 dollars, four for 11 dollars. I love the location anytime of year but especially when it's warm enough to sit on the patio. I wanted my husband to try this as he had never had fish tacos. The first time I went here I got fish tacos and a Caesar salad, which were delish. He ordered Carne Asada and did not like it. This second time I again ordered a Caesar salad, but it lacked the pork rind croutons and was not as tasty for sure. We ordered bottomless chips and of course we had to ask for more. They are merely fried flour tortillas and they really are greasy and taste quite bland. My husband's sprite was actually seltzer water and we spent a long time flagging someone -- anyone -- to replace it. I lived in California and have been all over Northern California. I miss the Mexican food out there and was hopeful of En su boca's claim to replicating the San Francisco cuisine scene; but, alas, it's just standard Richmond fare. Bland, bad service and confusing. What's with the 25 cents painted over the entrance? There's nothing for 25 cents on the menu! On the other hand, youngish VCU students seemed to enjoy it. And they seem to know what to order as the grilled corn looked pretty good. If you guys could improve the chips and salsa, we would be back! Otherwise, no thanks. read more

Some fake Megadeath bartender completely ignored me at the bar when I was eating and spent the whole time speaking with the only other two people at the bar. A pair of older ladies. I understand that I do not have a vagina but that is not grounds for no service, empty drink and literally throwing the bill and credit card back at me and walking away without saying anything. Stopped in here for dinner after seeing a movie at Bowtie. Initially, we thought that there would be a long wait, but the turn around was fairly quick. While we were waiting, we stood out on the patio. The heated lamps are a good touch to make it bearable in cold weather. The inside is small, but nice. It can be a bit loud. The food was great. We ordered guacamole, deviled eggs, and the queso for apps. We inhaled all of it. There were no complaints. The drinks we ordered came out pretty quickly too. I know I loved mine. I wanted the pina picante, but they ran our of puree....so the bartender made me a spicy tequila margarita...it was awesome. We all got tacos for our entree. They look small but they are packed with flavor. I had the black bean and soy chorizo. I really enjoyed them...and i usually don't eat tacos! Finally, our server was awesome. Based off the popularity of the restaurant I expected a lot more in the flavor department. They have excellent customer service, a beautiful outdoor area the only missing piece was the flavor. We ordered the 10 for 25 : Souther fried fish (2) Carne asada (2) Pork pibil (1) Marinated grilled (1) Carnitas (1) Sloppy jose (1) and most of the tacos lacked something special. The best part of the tacos were the portion sizes because they definitely are enough to fill you up (which I appreciate). Souther fried fish is 1,000,000% the best tact because of the taste of the fish & the delicious slaw, my least favorite was the Carne Asada. I have been eating carne asada my whole life and this one just missed the mark with the meat alone. All the tacos were better with the house hot sauces so I recommend you order those as well! The fish Taco is where its at. The homemade chips are great, but I am not a fan of the Marinara sauce on nachos.

When this place opened so close to my workplace, I was thinking, " Awesome, a taqueria I can enjoy a decent happy hour at after work." I was not entirely correct. The food is no better than any other place like it, the parking situation is not the best, and the drink prices are on the high end. $4 for a PBR I think? If you are on your way to the ball game, it has a nice patio to get acclimatized to the weather you're about to endure at the Diamond, which is one major plus, but other than that 3 stars is a fair rating. read more

not sure about the other reviews, but they kept me away for awhile. stopped in before a movie and it was great surprise. food was very good. fresh pork rinds were great. tacos were spot on. my wife's special fish dinner was wonderful. some say it is overpriced, 3 tacos for 11 that were full and flavorful the drinks were LARGE and used fresh mix with high end tequila which makes the drinks like 2 for one when comparing to other restaurants ... don't get the house margarita as it has aristocrat tequila and that is horrible I wouldn't compare this to Mexican restaurants and I beg to differ with the review about it not being for kids.... kids who like good food will love it, kids menus are for kids who eat nothing but mac and cheese and chicken fingers....sorry liz j. you must not have kids or you feed them kid menu junk. we will take our son next time as he loves spicy foods and has since he was little our service was great, hats off. so, don't believe all the reviews, just trust mine and give it a try. the place is quirky and I like quirky. read more

En Su Boca has a $1 fish taco special on Monday's that is unbeatable. The ceviche is easily one of the best in town. Surprisingly, the kitchen offers a delicious key lime pie from time to time. The outside deck is magical during sunset and allows seating for larger parties w no reservations. The margaritas have a great tequila flavor w/a light tartness. En Su Boca is one of my favorite places to grab a bite to eat and relax. The atmosphere is that of a larger city and allows me to pretend I'm outside of Virginia. Since moving back to Richmond in Dec, En Su Boca has readily become my favorite restaurant in town. read more

Cool hip décor. Too bad it was the worst meal I have had any Mexican, tex-mex, or neuvo-mex restaurant ever. I am a big fan of all the variants of Mexican food. This is not any of them. It was not even good bar food. I ordered an $11 burrito without giving much thought to it. When it came out it looked more like a wrap since it had nothing on it. It was large. As I tried to saw into it with the thinnest utensils I have ever seen, I realized the size was the result of an huge flour tortilla rather than the contents. The contents where dry and bland. What I tasted more than anything else was the flour tortilla that seemed to come directly out of the bag. I looked around and saw at least a half dozen people struggling with their thin knives trying to cut through the many folds of there cold tortilla. Next time I have the urge, I will get my cold tortilla out of the fridge and save my $11. read more

First off, the bartender was decent. He was quick and got my drinks right. And the drinks were decently priced. Those are the two stars i gave. Sadly thats all the good i have to say about the place. The tacos were ok, at best. Not worth their price, but i would have stayed for the drinks if it werent for the slightly larger unattractive woman who was apparently in a bad mood. She was rude and very unpleasant. She talked to me like i was a child. I am a 36 year military guy. From what i can gather, she was the boss that day. I understand it was the beginning of shamrock the block, but if you cant handle the stress you should maybe find another line of work. Customer service should be higher on her list of importance. Would not recommend to anyone who expects a comfortable atmosphere or decent service. If she is working, you'll likely get neither. read more

Every order of drinks took about 15 minutes, our food did not show up until 30 minutes after the rest of our table had eaten, finished, and paid their tabs. Came with three different salsas that were all amazing with the habanero one being the best. Then we got the 50 cent wings. Probably one of the best wings I've had in richmond. Really tasty. Finally the fish tacos were kind of disappointing. They were bland and only tasted better when I added the salsas that were given with the chips. I went here during taco week (let's pause for a minute and think about how awesome a week of tacos is...) and was very pleased. My girlfriend and I each had the Mexican street corn and the fish tacos that were the special of the week. The corn was absolutely amazing. While I guess the fish tacos could have been better, they were still delicious, the best I have had at a restaurant, and certainly better than anything I can make. Since then, this has become a favorite happy hour of mine. Perfect place to hang out, have some beers, and rock out some tacos and corn. If you don't like this place, I judge you. read more
