I've never had such a thick tortilla chip in my life. Clearly not authentic Mexican food. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is because somebody that I went with actually enjoyed a taco they had. I was looking forward to this place being really good but I was severely disappointed. Thick chips, nasty cocktails, and cold food. Will not be returning. It's no surprise that the owners of this restaurant have had to shut down and rebrand their other restaurants multiple times. Yum Yum YUM! This place is delicious and easily has some of the best tacos and margaritas I've ever had! It's a bit of a dive but so, so good in all the ways. I don't ever drink frozen margaritas, but I did here - so worth it. The guac, salsas, and chips were a great bargain for how much you get (and how delicious they all are). The grilled street corn was flavorful and hit the spot. The sloppy Jose and Rajas tacos were probably some of the best and most flavorful tacos I had had in a LONG time (so many places have tacos that are dry, flavorless, and fall flat). I had heard mixed reviews about this place, but it was convenient for a movie date night. Spoiler alert: you have to order chips and salsa. Not complimentary. But it's only like $3 and bottomless, so shut up. The chips are a thicker texture than most, but were still decent. Salsa was fine, nothing spectacular. I ordered the horchata and was pleasantly surprised. Most places offer up a powdered mix style horchata, but this place had a somewhat authentic-tasting version. If it was powder, they worked it well. My boyfriend ordered a Jalisco Coffee (Patron XO with the horchata). Amazing. We both did the 4 for $11 tacos. I had the chicken, carnitas, black bean, and carne asada. I want to say that my favorite was the chicken. Very flavorful and juicy. The black bean was great as well. Carnitas was quite spicy, but well done. Carne asada had a decent flavor but the meat was a little on the dry side. Womp. The tortillas were fresh and I appreciated that. I would consider myself a taco connoisseur of some sort, Ive had tacos from Mexico City, Downtown Los Angeles, Denver Colorado and even the Philippines. I was saddened by the lack of authentic Mexican food and or selection in the Richmond area. En Su Boca did not disappoint. We walked in around 445pm, just missing the main dinner rush (which was a good thing judging by the line out the door on the way out), we were seated immediately. The waitress was nice. The vibe and spot atmosphere seemed very hip. We opted to go with the chips and salsa which were awesome. We decided to order the tacos which were also very tasty (order the 10 x $25 ), seemed a bit pricey but mosdef worth it. Overall we will definitely return..#thumbsup read more

The food is fantastic, the service is not very attentive. Anytime I am traveling through Richmond, I always am sure to stop at En Su Boca for a meal. The tacos plate is amazing and plenty big to split with someone else. The guacamole is great and their variety of salsas are good too. Was really excited to try this place. Flavor of the burrito was good: however, the rice was undercooked (1/3 of the portion was crunchy). Waitresses were more concerned with each other and gossip than patrons. Walked in in Sunday morning just as they opened. Had our pick of seats since no one else was here. Celebrating my daughters birthday. Tried to order 3 different tacos but they were out of carne and didn't have the slaw for the fish tacos. Then ordered carnitas burrito. Took a long time to get our food. Could see the cooks fooling around in the kitchen area. They then placed a giant plate of food in front one of their employee.... My burrito finally came out and it was lukewarm inside. I asked to have it reheated - which took a while and then out it came on a hot plate. But again - still lukewarm. My daughters burrito was piping hot. We also ordered a bean burrito for my 4yr asking for beans and cheese. It came out full of other ingredients which the waitress had to debate with us about. Over all it took too long , the waitress had to argue and or defend every thing we were concerned about .... Unsatisfactory experience. I won't be back . This restaurant is located in what used to be an adult bookstore (XXX). Fortunately, it does not look like that any longer. Unfortunately, we may have had better service if it was. In spite of the hostess acknowledging we had not seen a server after 10 minutes, it was another 10 before the server showed up to take our drink order, thus 20 minutes before we saw our server. It was not because they were packed as there were empty tables in the restaurant. We had one appetizer, four entrees, chips, two cocktails an iced tea and tap water. It was $90. Not a good value. Food was average, cocktails were average and guac with the bottomless chips came in a little plastic cup and would not have managed to go beyond one basket of chips. At one point I ran out of water in my glass and then I saw the guy with the water pitcher coming. He walked past me with my empty glass to the table next to us to clear empty plates where the people there had left. I got up, and got the water pitcher myself and filled my glass. He saw me do it and said nothing. A customer service oriented staff would not have allowed that to happen and the server would not have taken 20 minutes. There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in Richmond, you MUST do something to set yourself apart. Poor service and average food with high prices is not going to do it. read more

Can I just give this restaurant 10 stars? Wow! We visited with family who had recommended this restaurant and were not disappointed. Great decor, vibe, setting. Friendly server. The margarita was sooo good. Best of all were the two fish tacos I had for lunch (two were plenty with the chips). Delicious. A must visit for me on every return trip to Richmond. This place is not trying to be something it's not. Very solid tacos - I found the sauce in the fish tacos to be particularly tasty - with cut above salsas and plenty of cocktail choices. Definitely a great spot for after work, but I found the food to be just fine for lunch. Service was attentive and quick, and the place really maximizes the space it has. Waited for over 15 minutes after ordering uncomplicated off the tap cerveza before leaving. No comment on food but service is overwhelmed and obviously not trained. Not a huge yelper but this place is a buzz-kill! Randy O - my friends and I went there after attending a Squirrels game. I believe it was around 3pm. We were seated quickly however it seemed like there were more tables seated than could be worked. One waitress gave us menus & eventually in a hurry placed waters on the table. After she didn't return for quite some time but walked past our table at least 8 times with no eye contact I flagged down another waitress who stated it was not her table but agreed to take our orders anyways. At that point our original waitress broke some glasses on the floor not sure if she was upset someone else was helping us or what really occurred there. At that point we decided to give it 15 more minutes since we placed drink orders. Used a stop watch on our phone. It hit 15 minutes the bar was loaded with dirty glasses our drinks we not in sight so we left. My friend went to talk to the waitress to let her know we were leaving and she was so overwhelmed that she didn't seem to care. Randy I appreciate your interest in this as I too believe my experience could have been better. I suggest that the servers and waitresses get more training. The ONLY reason this has one star is that's the only way to review. This place SUCKS!!! I travel constantly and so must eat out a lot. This is hands down the WORST SERVICE I've seen. There must be something else going on there that I am missing because its certainly not food and drink. We were seated and given a large bottle of water, no glasses to pour water in. About 10 minutes later someone took our drink orders, it took 23 mins.(now I'm Timing)to get our drinks. We never received menus after asking, after our drinks were gone and we still had no service no menus, we asked for check. Nope they were to SORRY to even do that. We ended up going to the bar and after a cluster F.... of confusion there we finally were able to pay and leave. We arrived around 700 on a Sat evening and the restaurant was packed, however we only had a 15 minute wait and were seated promptly. The hostess and our waiter were friendly although it was clear that our waiter was stretched thin with the number and location of tables he was serving. Upon the recommendation of friends we ordered the fish tacos and the chicken tacos as well as the guacamole salsas and chips. Service was quick and the food was tasty. I would recommend the fish over the chicken. The reason for 3 stars over 4 is this... The noise level is pretty high difficult to have a conversation also details matter even small details, we had to ask for napkins and utensils as neither were provided by either our waiter or the server. May sound picky but it is the small things that set you apart. Would definitely come back and would ask for napkins and utensils upon ordering. read more

Prior to our arrival, my expectations were quite high based on the amount of hype I have heard about En Su Boca. This place delivered on that expectation. En Su Boca is ahead of the now, and the wonderful city of Richmond will benefit from more restaurants like this. My boyfriend and I ate here a couple of weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised by the menu selection. I had the vegetarian soy chorizo, which was really good, but spicy, so be careful if you're not into that. However, the fish tacos were absolutely amazing. The atmosphere was laid back, and the building itself seems to be a converted garage, as the bartender was able to open one whole side of the room by sliding a garage door open, which opened up the entire patio. While we went during the day, I could see how this place would be really fun at night, given the indoor/outdoor seating. We sat and talked to the bartender, who was really helpful and attentive. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised because this is Richmond after all, but one word came to my mind - "hipster". I went with my boyfriend because he loves Mexican food. I guess if you're looking for alcohol it's a good place, because of the ONE PAGE menu they gave us, only the front was food and the whole back was just alcohol. They don't provide free chips, so I ordered them off the menu (I don't like Mexican food and that was all that looked remotely good) and they were these horrific burnt BAKED things. I barely ate half of them. Boyfriend also didn't see anything remotely good, despite loving Mexican food, and ordered some spicy beef taco things - and specified NO ONIONS. Well, not only did he get a ton of onions on his tacos, but they were completely unpalatable to him. The waitress all but abandoned us after bringing us food. Loved this casual Tex Mex place. The fish tacos, although the fish was deep fat fried, were especially fresh and good. Chips and salsa cost extra here but are inexpensive and unique. The chips are like pita chips and there are two spicy salsas and a spicy guac to go with it.
