For weeks, my uncle was unable to get his medication, and our family was concerned that his hearing loss was preventing him from understanding what was happening with his medication at Encore. As a result, we, his insurance provider, and his care team have been in communication with Encore over the past two months. We have all reached a consensus. Encore has been intentionally withholding medication from individuals covered under the state insurance program(Medi-Cal). This practice not only compromises the well-being of these patients but also contravenes the principle of non-discrimination in the provision of insurance services. Following a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Encore staff provided inaccurate information regarding their contracts and services with Medi-Cal. Initially, Encore staff incorrectly stated that they did not have a contract with Medi-Cal. When Medi-Cal directly contacted Encore, the same misinformation was provided, despite the fact that Encore was speaking directly to Medi-Cal representatives. Subsequently, Encore revised their statement, claiming that they do not provide injectables (such as insulin) to Medi-Cal patients. However, this claim was also refuted by Medi-Cal. Upon realizing that they were in direct communication with Medi-Cal, the pharmacist (Ben) attributed the errors to a lack of knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures among the staff, specifically regarding the insurance plans accepted by Encore. These inconsistencies raise serious concerns about Encore's commitment to serving individuals with state insurance and their willingness to fulfill their contractual obligations. It is important to note that Encore is indeed under contract with state insurance and should be providing medication to patients with state insurance. It is imperative that Encore takes immediate action to rectify this situation and ensure that all patients, regardless of their insurance status, are treated with fairness and respect. Encore wasn't contracted with the company for the particular drugs I needed, but she called a sister pharmacy who was contracted and would fill my prescriptions. The price was still going to be high...over $200 for each. Michelle found manufacturers discount coupons that she applied for the medications and got the price down to only $60 each!!
